2024 Nissan Versa - A Major Warning Sign

- This could be the most important vehicle that is on sale right now. Why you may ask? Because over the past four years people around the world have been priced out of their own livelihoods. The 2024 Nissan versa is a breath of fresh air in an outrageously priced automotive market.
American car manufacturers screwed themselves over by dumping sedans
Yep, Chevy Cruze was a cash cow. Same with the Focus and Fiesta. Hell, the Neon absolutely crushed it sales wise. They wanted a higher profit from point of purchase.
Serves them right, if this damn government would stop bailing them out…
@revnation_auto I actually saw someone trying to defend that decision. It boggles the mind how someone wants less options for cars.
Lots of their sedan just had year after year of declining sales. Its pretty hard to justify the R&D for a car that has no hope of growth and just more decline. Plus most of their cars were garbage anyway. The Cruze, 200, Focus etc were all pretty famous for being subpar.
@@revnation_autoActually the Focus had declining sales for nearly 15 years and the Fiesta was stuck around the 60k a year mark and starting to dip.
60k these days for a low profit car is pretty hard to justify for car companies. Plus both were pretty famous for bad quality. They looked nice after their face lifts but both wont be missed. Just not reliable enough. Especially knowing how Ford would end up being number one in recalls this year.
Nissan targeting the right customer base. Affordable vehicles
The Americans gave up on sedans. So let another manufacturers sell them.
Imagine economy so screw up right now that 18k is considered affordable, scary times we live in
Me calling my Nissan dealership for a discount 😂 they said best they can do is 18,300$ cash 😢 I asked for 17,500 and he said buy it somewhere else 😂
Looks at older used cars, for your $17,500, you could get some wicked cool stuff. I think a frame of fully restored Jeep CJ-7 could be had for that, or a 2015 loaded S Class Mercedes. 2015 diesel Passats getting you way more room and more mpg are less than 1/2 the price of this. Why spend nearly $20K for a CVT hunk of junk?
@@zfunk9 Do not buy a $17k S Class. Get a lexus Es/Rx 350. Just because you can get it doesnt mean you can afford it.
@@zfunk9bad advice lol.
If you make 25 in five years that’s 100k. 19000 is like 10 percent to have a new car with ac and add ons
This guy makes me laugh. He talks about America needing a car like the Versa right now, but then he shoves his Camaro in our faces, with its idling V8 sound!!! 😂
Are you dumb???? You think people that can afford more expensive cars can't understand that others are struggling even if they themselves aren't struggling ??
Yes. Narcissists 😂😂
Agreed. I clicked for the Versa. If I wanted to see a Camaro, I would've searched for one. X3
A plastic Camaro that he says sounds so mean.. yeah right.. keep that junk. I'm sticking with a metal vehicle.
Exactly...
I would take it with the manual
Don't assume. Actually, it is the manual 2022 and 2023 that has a problem with a false code that causes it to lose power and stall. NTSA forced Nissan open an investigation into this.
I believe that is does comes in manual.
Only the base model gets a manual. all trim levels should have a manual option!
Yes, the dealers around me seem to get 1 manual every few months and they are spoken for by the time they arrive
@@lrich8181 Funny how car manufactures know exactly what the paying customers want and then refuse to give it to them.
Hyundai base model car has two models.
Cheap model no turbo engine but CVT
Top trend Turbo but goo transmission.
They cannot put the good transmission on both models.
Bought one for my 17 yr old daughter last year. Was stunned how comfortable it was when I did a 300 mile road trip. You can fit four adults with ease and the trunk can hold a good amount. It really is a packaging feat.
You're very lucky you bought a 2023 because they lowered the ground clearance from 6.8 in to 5.5 in for the 2024 ..it feels like you're behind is dragging on the road and the seats are much less plush ..you are very lucky to buy a 2023 I am so sorry I did not buy a 2023
In my opinion, sedans are way cooler than SUV’s.
Way cooler
Way way cooler
Don't think people are broke, just being more conservative, tired of paying ridiculous MSRP prices and higher interest rates, we ain't gonna take it anymore. Even slightly used stuff are going for what they where brand new.
We are broke and inflation is keeping us there.
People are "...being more Conservative, tired of paying ridiculous MSRP..." Is what being broke IS dude
People are broke, i don't know where you live, but no one has money unless they make over $150K in my area.
All cars have luxury features now and people finally realize its a waste of money for 500hp or tech crap they'll never use. Plus all cars today, including his Camaro, are silly looking plastic jelly beans. Back in the 80's, we made fun of people putting Mercedes badges on Nissans. Today, I bet most people wouldn't even know the difference.
@@SteveRoman66 I graduated in '86. I remember when "Posers" were doing that with badges. lol. I'll take any car from1950-1970 before any of todays cars as far as looks.
Nissan has a history of bad CVT's. I'd get the manual trans. I don't need all the optional extras, I live alone with a dog, I'm retired, and only need a car to go to the doctor and grocery shopping. And I go to my local Home Depot to walk inside. All less than 5 miles one way except for one doctor that is 25 miles one way. This sounds like the best option for others like myself. Get the base car with the manual trans and no additional options.
Most of those problems were overheating the fluid and 6 6mm ball bearings in the variator. They fixed those issues in the 2014 model I believe. I added a CVT fluid cooler to my wife's 2011 Sentra in 2013 and the limp mode problems went away and never returned.
I got the 5-speed in my 2024 -- it was hard to find but I sourced one. I just wish it had taller gears, or a 6th gear for highway driving. It's kinda weird to be at 3,000rpm at 65mph... lol
I had a Nissan Versa. It was a great little car. I got 180,000 miles out of it before the CVT transmission went out. Mostly trouble free.
Just change the cvt fluid every two or three years and you will be fine with the cvt
@@ChrisLove713 That's bizarre to me, my 2003 saturn runs around 3k at 80 in 5th. but I agree, save the manuals!
I actually think this is the first Versa that is a nice looking car, for our times. Versa's used to look, look FUGLY!
I think every car, suv, truck today is silly looking, plastic jelly beans, which would have been laughed at in the 1970's. Designers ran out of ideas decades ago. Today designers are just trying to make vehicles look different and not "form follows function" anymore.
Nissan is very smart doing this
I've had a 2008 Versa hatchback, ran for a long time and gave it to my dad. Definitely a great A to B vehicle. Nissan needs to the hatch again.
Yeah too Bad they discontinued the versa note hb and the honda fit. They were great hatchbacks
@@DavidHernandez-oz4me
They just didn’t make sense. The sedan got better mpg, and the trunk is twice as big.
The rear leg room is also bigger on the sedan
@@dontdoxmebro yeah but in a hatchback you push the backseats and the entre car becomes a Big storage space. I make paintings and drawings and they don't fit in a sedan when framed. So it made more sense to me to buy a hatchback, plus they are easy to park anywhere.
They have a market for those who need to transport big items, or those who have limited parking space. I even fit a herman Miller drawing aeron chair and a desk when i had the Nissan.
They have the Kicks for a hatchback offering now but it sucks there's no manual transmission option for it. When I bought my used 2013 Versa sedan I was really wanting a Note but the prices of used cars at the time were drastically inflated. I got the sedan through a friend of friend with a manual transmission for $3k cash so no CVT woes. I couldn't pass up the sedan at that price and I needed a fuel efficient vehicle for commuting.
@@jeepinintexas6215 The used Toyota Corolla hatchback 2019 thru 2022 still have manual transmissions. Those are popular.
Wow, great deal! If they replaced the CVT with a regular geared transmission, it would be even better!
Or an EV, no transmission at all!
I got a 2024 with the 5-speed manual because I dont like the Jatco-made CVT and they're not nearly as reliable as the nissan-built 5-speed gearbox. I love my car! GREAT VALUE! The only negative I could say is, it could certainly use a 6th gear for highway driving to keep the RPMs down. It's kinda weird to be at 3,000rpm at 70mph. Apart from that, its about as perfect as you can get for the money.
The air cooled Porsche has a five speed gear box!
I have one without that $1,200 package, strictly base but I do have the automatic highbeam assist which is the first time I’ve had that feature and it makes a huge difference at night. 34 mpg for my mostly city/suburban driving. Only 5k miles but so far very pleased. I will be getting the CVT fluid changed every 25k miles just in case.
Hey make sure to get both filters replaced and magnets cleaned too, just changing the fluid wont help unless you do that. You should do it yourself, otherwise you will be paying hundreds just for a fluid service. My dealer wanted 600 to do a full service which was wild. I do it myself for under 100 including shipping for the parts.
@@OrganicFoxesthank you! Will do.
@@jrob07105 RUclips is your friend. Just watch videos, buy right tools and stock filters and oil and save $. 😊
I have a 2017 Nissan Sentra with 125,000 miles on it and bought it new with 27 miles. I have not had any issues with other than one and that was the fuel pump went out but thankfully its under warranty. I have been very pleased with the car and even the CVT has been good too. I am averaging over 43 mpg on the highway. Way more than what the car is rated for. Solid car and it cost me 20,000 back then. I think back then it was a great deal.
I bought a brand new 2017 Versa note in 2018 for $11,500. Crest Nissan in Frisco, TX.
I'd get this if it had a hatchback still. I'm glad this car exists for the folks who really need it.
I'm retired, my wife is looking for a new car. My son works at a Toyota dealer and keeps finding all these used cars w 40k+ miles and $25k + price tags. I told him about the new $20k Versas and that would be the route we go. I'm still waiting on prices to go lower as most New Car Manufacturers already have large overstocks.
If the economy keeps going the way it is, I’m personally going to be on a motorcycle or trike in the next few years. Sadly, it’s not just a sticker price of cars that are going up. Fuel is going up. Insurance is going up parts labor and maintenance is going up. Everything seems to be going up except wages. You know what I mean.
We bought a 2024 Versa with the SV trim for island driving here in Hawaii. Gets 43 mpg just on the H-1 freeway going across the island. Great car. Comfortable ride. Excellent safety features.
I’d get one, with kids and wife times are tough. Plus, I commute for work.
Funny how we RUclipsrs talk about how bad the economy is while we ride around in our V8 Camaros and Mustangs😂
Because most of us paid those off a while back or have 3% interest rates

@@stealthis it’s still a Nissan bro lol.
Yeah, I do laugh when gas prices go up and the local new inevitably interviews some dude at the gas station complaining about gas prices as he fills up his f250 that had likely never even had a single sheet of plywood in the bed. As if nobody remembers that fuel costs go up and down and we usually have to get that oil from bad people.
Being over leveraged is not a good economy.
Americans voted for this. Things had been going extremely well a few years ago. No wars, little inflation, high employment rates, secured borders, low crime rate, inexpensive major ticket items, low interest rates, lower costs of housing, rent, fuels, foods.
Yeah but we don't have to deal with mean tweets anymore.
I think a little virus also has something to do with this…
No , everything was already expensive compared to year 2000.
@@rachegreenrg and it was certainly expensive compared to say 1920 or 1890 or hell 1790. I mean in 1630 the Dutch purchased Staten Island for $24 worth of beads and trinkets from the indigenous inhabitants. How's that for inflation? Wait....$24 was not fair market value. Never mind.
Inflation is happening all over the world, not just in the US.
AT THE SHOP I TAKE MY CARS TOO THERE WERE 3 NEW CVT TRANSMISSIONS ON THE FKLOOR, I SAID WHAT ARE THOSE, THEY SAID THOSE ARE NISSAN CVT TRANS, THEY SAID THEY ARE PURE JUNK, THEY PUT SO MANY IN, HE SAID THEY LAST MAYBE 40-50K MILES THEN THEY ARE TOAST.
I guess the guy who said his ate shit at 70k was lucky. 😅
Idk bro they have no competition now so no shit they sell out.
When the Rio, Accent, Fit, Fiesta, Sonic, Yaris were on sell no one bought them....
Supply and demand.
Well yeah, but back then an upgrade from a Yaris to a nicer car only cost between 5-10k more. Now an upgrade costs like 50k. It's ridiculous.
Trade that camaro in for that versa
😄
😂
He would actually be trading up. 😂
Scotty would call it junk. He hates Chevy products. 😂😂
Why pickups are so popular in US, are there so many farmers?
It's a "I'm a macho, manly man! I can't be seen in a minivan!" thing. Even though they never haul big/heavy things, or go off-road.
Because America and Biden sucks a big fat one
To hold the fragile egos of some people.
Realistically, most people just need a Nissan Versa for most of their vehicle needs.
"A breath of fresh air"...thumbs up!!
If you don't want a CVT get the "S" trim with a manual. They'll last forever. You will sacrifice a split folding rear seatback with access to the trunk and no front armrest. With the "SV" trim and higher you'll get all those things but no manual option. I have a 2015 Versa Note with a CVT and can attest-- they ARE reliable.
No wonder it is a good seller!
Isn’t the Nissan CVT total crap? From what I hear you are going to need that warranty. Better buy an extended warranty too.
The smart move would be to get the manual.
Nissan extended the warranty to 84K. Not that they will actually replace the transmission.
Not if you maintain them properly.
The CVT is bulletproof when attached to a 94 horsepower power plant.
I love mine. Nine years not one problem. Great on gas, comfortable, quiet, inexpensive but regular maintenance, it has started every time. I can afford a more upscale car but I refuse to pay. I'm on strike for the foreseeable future, and it's not just with cars.

Would buy the Versa with a 5speed manual…..paying for an SUV,even monthly is getting tougher with the cost of living the way it is.
Same thing they did 50 years ago with the Datsun 510 and 210. Provided high quality, economical cars while Detroit put out either gas hog malaise V8 pigs, or dangerous disposable garbage economy cars like Vega and Pinto.
Looks like Nissan still has a similar mission. Of course, even the cheapest cars now MUST have all the wireless technologies. We wouldn't want to just DRIVE with the radio on like the old dsys.
I prefer the I drive with the radio on and don’t want this wireless crap. Too many distracted drivers messing with their smartphones.
@@danieldaniels7571 Me too. I'm surprised they allow these distractions. These big TV monitors pasted to the dash are ridiculous.
i used to have the b210 and the 510 and loved them, both manual transmissions, reliable, easy to work on them, great fuel economy, sadly they will not make the manual transmission after this year.

Nissan is discontinuing the Versa ..get one while you can brother
Since you mentioned a used Corolla to it compare to, I started thinking about it. And I think the used Corolla will be a much better way to go. Of course, a brand new car under warranty has many positive attributes and might be the best decision for some people, but for a lot of people a used Corolla will be much cheaper to purchase initially, probably cheaper to insure, will probably have many options this base Versa doesn't have, will be a better quality/nicer riding car, if one intends to keep it for the long run, the Corolla will _probably_ last longer and cost less to maintain/repair over it's life, and here's the main thing- in a few years, when it's time to sell or trade in, the Versa will be worth less than half of what was paid for it, while the Corolla will _probably_ be worth close to it's purchase price, and could very well be worth _more_ than how much it cost to buy!
That's just my thought, since it was brought up. I actually like the Versa, and I'm glad Nissan sells a car like this. The car business has gotten crazy in recent years, and it's great to see someone still offering a decent car that's affordable.
You haven't checked used price for Corolla. They're going for the same sticker price they had 2 years back with 10,000 miles already on them.
The car doesn’t look as bad as you made it seem. Compared to my 2015 Versa note, it looks great.
$18k for a brand new 4 door sedan with full factory warranty and all the modern safety features plus tech package like touchscreen-Apple CarPlay/Android auto then awesome gas mileage is a huge bargain. If I was in the market, I’d rather get this than a used high mileage Toyota Corolla/Civic/Mazda etc.
just purchased the S with plus package in the grey. Have had it for two weeks and like it very much, drives will, decent acceleration, CVT with fake shift points is fine (use the Sport mode). only thing(s) missing are XM radio and remote for lock and unlock. Added XM radio but will not pay 295 for 3rd party remote locking
The seals will keep clapping while our quality of life keeps declining. At least economy cars should be coming back…
Sadly it won't be a big seller for long, Nissan is discontinuing it after 2025, Why? For now it is a screaming bargain IMO. My Brother has one, a 2022 SR, that is loaded and it's a comfortable car. We have taken (3) 1800+ mile road trips with it and there is very little to dislike. Great Fuel Economy, comfortable seats, great stereo system with Apple Car Play and Adaptive Cruise Control. It handles 80 mph Interstates with no complaints.
Having a hard time finding a five speed in my part of CA.
there was only one here in texas two months ago when I got my 2024 5-speed. I snapped it up.
LOL you're assuming cheap people buy new cars. We don't.
well when used cars cost as much as new in the current toxic car market.. you might as well buy new?
@@ChrisLove713nah, I just keep my old one running
This is one bargain car. It drives great. has decent space, comfort, safety. The 1.6L engine paired to a CVT sips fuel. It is cheap to maintain, oil is cheap, small tires are cheap to replace and small basic brakes are cheap to replace as well. This is a very good commuter car going to work, grocery and daily grind. I Love it. Another alternative is the Nissan Kicks.
For about the same money you can get the Sentra which is a better looking car or for a few more bucks a Subaru Impreza with AWD. There are options around the 20k mark. I can't imagine being one of those people who thought a $1,000+ car payment was a good idea no matter what the economy is doing.
Bought one yesterday, 2024 S model.
I'm 72 years old...never owned a new car...never paid more than $13,000. Why? Because only fools go into debt over a car.
I'd love to see more of these type of cars on the road instead of those big-ass SUVs and silly Crossovers.
I loved my 2015 Yaris SE hatch 5-MT & was disappointed that Toyota stopped selling their subcompact in the US market. Sadly, the Versa is pretty much the only true subcompact class Japanese "economy" vehicle left in the US market.

The CVT’s are junk. 2014 Sentra went through 3, 2017 Sentra is on its 5th. I have traded in the 14 for a BoltEV. If you decide to get a Versa get a manual transmission.
My wife has a 2014 Altima with over 180,000 miles zero issues with the cvt.

The Versa is a little small for me, but the last time I was at a car show, I found the Sentra surprisingly comfortable. Nissan may have positioned itself right, for the times we are going through.
Unfortunately we have a 2019 Nissan Sentra SV and the CVT is total crap. We got a notice from Nissan that the transmission warranty was extended to 84k miles and had the Nissan service department check the transmission but of course said nothing is wrong with it even though it hesitates & rpms revs up high to start off & is very rubber band like, Turning right stutters and jerks, and Very unstable on power/ torque. And it has 47k miles. Will never buy any Nissan!!!
should have gotten the nissan-built 5-speed -- it'll run forever with no issues. The CVT in the versa isn't even built by nissan, it's a Jatco cvt.
@@ChrisLove713 I wish the 5 speed manual was an option at that time. I bought it from a rental company for my wife and she hates manuals. (I love them). Good manuals are not easy to to find in the used car market.

I think these are great. If I were looking for a new point A to point B car, this is what I'd get. 5 speed manual, naturally aspirated, port injected. This thing is such a throwback it's glorious lol
I bought a new base model Versa in 2018 for $11,500. 60,000 miles now with no issues except for a couple burned out headlight bulbs and a noisy wheel bearing that I replaced myself for $30. Gets over 40 mpg.

Good on Nissan. Gotta give Nissan credit for this. If you can walk off the lot at 18k with everything including tax… that’s pretty good. Corolla is what like 24k base. They seem to like to mark up base Toyotas tho lately.
I had to rent one about 6 months back was very impressed, plenty of power was actually pretty fast acceleration, I was actually surprised at how roomy it was, a lot of tech (that I could do without), what I liked the most was the steering wheel it was a flat bottom and had finger groves perfectly placed it was like a racing steering wheel
I had one and loved the hell out of it drove great good fuel mileage and no problems for 5yrs paid cash 13500 standard got me out of a pinch when I needed reliable transportation can't go wrong
I'd rather have a Versa than a Camaro...my hot rodding days are long gone.
The Big 3 screwed themselves by going strictly for SUVs, pickups and sports cars instead of offering up at least a compact and mid size sedan at a reasonable price. I work as a Service Advisor at Ford and I tell all the Ford Fusion customers to keep hanging onto their cars especially if their car has the 2.5 I4 in it. Right now people are way in over their heads with payments for vehicles they can't realistically afford even if they were making 1.5X their current income.
Not many SR trim at dealership inventory to choose from. I bought mine one in the lot. 😄
I have the 2018 standard transmission model S. I am very happy with it at about 60k miles. The standard transmission is a major league plus for me to not have to worry about a cvt . Nissan not offering this model with cruise control, fold down seats is a real bummer. I don’t understand the executive decision to have these limitations except that it may be the American public rejecting standard transmissions. No one else offers a standard transmission any longer. But I believe the marketing should try to sell the standard transmission as an advantage. But probably don’t want to play with making the CVT reputation any worse than pure trash reputation it has now.
How are you going to film that versa with the sound of freedom humming in the background 😮💨
I am 73 years old, just don't know how anybody can afford a new vehicle. Now that Versa is a car that makes sense. I don't need all the extras they put on American cars. I have to have my daughter help me with my cell phone, it's too much for this old man. My only concern about the Versa is how easy it is to get in and out!
ONE OF THESE OR A 2 YEAR OLD COROLLA? WHICH ONE DO U THINK WILL LAST
LONGER AND KEEP A GOOD RESALE VALUE? YOU ARE RIGHT. NOT THE NISSAN.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT
America MUST divorce itself from big pickups.. It’ll go kicking & screaming..
Just got my Versa RS model with all the goodies out the door for under 23 thousand. Fuel economy and price were my biggest reasons for getting the Versa. Getting 40 plus MPG. Awesome car.
I test drove a MT Versa. It was like driving a sewing machine. They are no fun. Sadly, it's the only new car worth buying.
Nissan is making reliable inexpensive vehicles. They won't go as far as a Toyota or Honda but they are an excellent alternative to the higher price SUVs.
Excellent alternative to horses and donkeys.
I won't be surprised if Nissan discontinues this, just as Toyota dropped the Yaris, Honda dropped the Fit, Kia dropped the Rio, Hyundai dropped the Accent, Ford dropped the Focus and Fiesta, and Chevrolet dropped the Cruze, Spark, and Sonic. No profits in these small cars, and the automakers need big profits to generate the funds needed for the EV's inevitable later this decade and next.
Nice ride. I think I will buy a used 3rd gen Prius :)
This sedan deserves to be on a budget-conscious shopper's list. Having options is a good thing.
I've been thinking about buying a Sentra but this Versa would be good enough for me and I like the black color and body style.
You better hurry.....they not making any more of them
The latest cvts taking ns3 synthetic fluid wont overheat as easy and eat the belt. Change every 20k miles w 4qts. synthetic cvt fluid. I say 20k bc theres an ez access drain plug and fill tube.

First car to be sold, yes, but also the first one to be brought back to the dealership because of that horrible CVT transmission!!!
Ive had one and my sister owns one. Very reliable
Base or economy cars have improved dramatically in the last ten years, more than mid level and luxury models. I would take one IF it came in manual transmission with crank handle windows.
I have a standard transmission model. Crank windows, manual door locks, but it does have power side view mirrors. I’m surprised Nissan doesn’t offer this model with the folding down rear seats or cruise control.
One annoying bummer is that because the left wheel well creates a interior bump in floorboard but Nissan didn’t incorporate a rubber pad at this point so with a clutch, my foot as well as other drivers as well disintegrates the carpeting right there at hump.
I’ve been seeing this car everywhere at my job. It is definitely evident that it’s the number one best selling car here in the US now. Things gotta change with other manufacturers otherwise they’re screwed
