- For the final installment of my backpacking gear review series I’m doing a catchall category that includes my toiletry and hygiene items, my first aid kit, everything I bring for gear repair and gear that I bring on trips that have extra sun, extra snow, or extra scary bears (aka grizzly’s).
This backpacking gear review includes some life saving items and some great little backpacking gear hacks, so be sure to stick around for the whole thing.
All of the backpacking gear in this review has been used and tested by me over hundreds (if not thousands of miles) and is what I have found to work best for my backpacking trips. Please leave any questions you have for me in the comments!
Below is all of the backpacking electronics and camera gear I reviewed in this video:

Aquaphor can be used instead of antibiotic ointment too. It is less likely to cause irritation and won't contribute to antibiotic resistance.
Great video! Alcohol pads are also handy for cleaning the adhesive of of your scissors.
YES! I've tried wiping them down a few times, I think they are at a point where it needs to soak off hahah
Great idea for the small Leukotape from LiteSmith- going to check that out! Thanks
I've loved having it!!
Nice list. I've moved over to the solid toothpaste tablets you mentioned. They feel more convenient than the little travel toothpaste tubes for a shorter duration walk but less practical to resupply on a multi month trail. I'm generally only walking for a week at a time so work out nicely with less waste.
yeah they seem like a good solution for trips from home! I'll have to test em out eventually.
Another easy way to flush out your Sawyer filter is to use a Smartwater bottle sports cap. It fits right over the tip of the outflow opening. Then you can use the water in a bottle for flushing.
yeah for sure. I just never feel like it does as good of a job as the syringe and/or coupler. But that's def what I do when I can't find a syringe in town!
Look up Korean sun sticks.
Hey Elise (or anyone else who might know) Question: I know you said that re-wrapping/winding leukotape didn't work very well; do you think backing it with something like a strip of wax paper or parchment paper would help? I've got one of the giant rolls and was wondering if you or anyone had tried something like that. Sort of like the nonstick papery backing of a Bandaid. I'd rather use what I have instead of buying more
Oooh I think it's definitely worth a try/a great idea! I've seen people get leukotape in strips as well so I know they make it that way. Can't hurt to test it out. And you can always try and find a small, lightweight hardsided container for your larger role too.
Use the backing that printer labels come from. That's how I keep mine. I cut them in 5" strips and place them on the label paper. I have no issue with the tape adhering when I do that.
Do you use your umbrella for rain protection?
If I have it with me, yes! But I don't carry it specifically for that purpose.
People with a uterus? …. Women with a uterus?
anyone with a uterus! Women aren't the only ones who get periods. And not all women get periods, so I prefer to try to use inclusive language.
