My grandmother used to work here and was also a patient here. I vaguely remember this hospital going to it with her to her appointments but it was a gorgeous hospital. It literally aggrevates me that the city would force it to close due to money vs actually letting it continue to save people’s lives…r.i.p. caraway 😢
it is always a wonder why places like this are left to rot away, unfortunately we noticed in Birmingham a lot of areas areas are like this. It used to be an beautiful hospital but definitely is in full decay and worse now since we were there.
I mean I understand that people vandalize abandoned buildings, but how is literally every inch of the place just destroyed? Seems like it would take years for this to occur. Shocking.
Yes, obviously it has been years, so natural decay and such will take place. But vandalism does take place. We are entirely against that. Places like this, for instance, should be remembered for what they used to provide to a community for example. Some simple graffiti can be "funny", but just destroying such locations should be spoken out against,
Definitely can seem shocking. I guess the more you go into these places you realize how quickly it falls apart without proper maintenance, then add the natural elements (rain, heat, humidity, mold, animals, ect) into the situation and yea it falls apart quick.
This seems like a cool place to explore, but this video was published about 2 years ago, so it’s probably even more decayed. I live near Birmingham, but I go down there a bunch since my grandparents live down there, and I’ve been to Children’s hospital a bunch. I may explore it when I’m older.
I'm sure it is definitely in worse shape these days. We couldn't go into one side of one of the buildings already at that point as the floor seemed too weak and wasn't worth the risk.
No one seems to care.. but it is getting in worse shape, that and more and more homeless in there.. just be warned and be cautious if you decide to go.
Seems most likely like a lot of hospitals, funding and ability to maintain the property became too expensive. Plans were made to fix it up in early 2020, but COVID most likely derailed that plan unless other things changed also. Birmingham is known for a lot of abandoned places due to economic reasons, so we will have to wait and see what becomes of this specific location. It is massive.
