I don't know how much this will help, but I got df'd 30 years ago, and I'm finally starting to welcome my family (my sisters mainly) out of that goofy cult. Be strong, keep hoping. People can surprise you.
Very well put together Lloyd. I remember vividly going door to door in 1974 doing what was then called “tract work”, delivering tracts and telling people that 1975 was going to be a momentous year. The message from Brooklyn was coming over very loud and clear in the kingdom halls at that time. Stay alive till ‘75. And your explanation of the teaching regarding the creative days is 100% accurate. I still remember clearly how this was all covered up in 1976 and how many “witnesses” left the org after that year. I’m so glad I’m out. Keep up the good work Lloyd. 👍
Absolutely! I was 10 in 1974 and clearly remember the hysteria surrounding the 1975 'end date" and the saying that my parents and their JW friends were using informally was "Come Alive In '75" a take on what the Watchtower was saying. I even went to school in 1975 and told classmates that Armageddon was coming in the fall of that year. I also remember people selling their homes and businesses and moving to places like Guatemala to pioneer, and crawling back to Canada after the debacle, financially broke and emotionally broken. Many formerly "strong' members of the congregation left the religion at that point. Then the Watchtower blamed the membership for being too eager!
Yes this is why born in 1960 I spurned the friendship of perfectly normal and friendly boys who are now grandfathers and could have become friends for life but who were scheduled to be burnt to death and destroyed at Armageddon in 1975.
I remember the discussion of 75 was kept to a minimum as a JW in the 90s but when it was brought up, anyone who was gone from that era, I was just told it was for smoking.
I wonder why so many people like my grandmother decided to stay after 1975. So very interesting, I didn’t know any of this. I will have to ask her.
Hey Lloyd, long time lurker here. My father(at the time of his death in 2013) was the one who donated a number of the items in Warwicks museum(finished the following year); including the Photo Drama of creation and what was claimed to be the first Watchtower and first Awake article. He was an well known collector and seeing your collection every week subconsciously makes me giddy!
Thank you Lloyd. My father is an avid believer of the "Great Jubilee". I grew up in the 80s, he voraciously studied two medium sized red books, I think one was called Babylon it's grand climax. I've had repeated arguments with him about the generation teaching and other debunked "old light". He typically ended any argument with an accusation of apostasy. Our last conversation he said if I'm rebelling from the watchtower teachings to not call his house again. Although painful at first, I came to realize that he had no other thought process outside of the watchtower and our conversations were usually tense and unpleasant so it was probably for the best.
One of the books I think you may be referencing is the red Revelation book. It's full of "old light."

This is a great video, Lloyd. I remember when I was a JW the teaching of the creative days being 7000 years long and this being the basis of Christ's 1000 year reign after Armageddon following 6000 years since human life was created. I remember well the Eve "excuse" for Armageddon not coming in 1975.
One thing always bothered me; Jehovah was supposed to have rested on the 7th day, but he's done everything but rest. He supposedly caused a world-wide flood, brought 10 plagues on Egypt, wrote hundreds of laws including the 10 commandments, led the Israelites out of Egypt, parted the Red Sea, caused many other miracles and gave dreams to numerous people, caused a virgin birth, resurrected Jesus, all the while giving inspiration to men to write all this down in the Bible and today he is still working his magic through 8 old fools in NY and will shortly bring worldwide destruction and slaughter to billions of people. Hardly a rest day!!!

Lol I remember the story of the surf who ran down the isle of the kingdom hall😆😆 my mom said they were demonized and I couldn't watch the cartoon or play with the toys.
I never had the passion to read JW literature when I was in and now I have to laugh, I use Lloyd to do it or me so I can get the cliff notes.
When I was a JW, growing up I always believed each creative day was 7,000 years. It underpins the idea that after 6000 years of human history, there will be a millennium reign of christ, the end of which coincides with the end of God's rest day. I remember watchtowers on the parallel with the jubilees in the late 70s. Definitely a ghost teaching that people still believe, but don't think about much anymore.
It was a hot teaching in the run up to 1975, as that date was heavily invested in the idea of a creative day being 7,000 years.
I have even heard Elders defending the fossil record with the statement that Satan went back in time and out them there to deceive us.
In the mid 70s as a child i heard it said many times that creation did not end until Adam had named all the animals and Eve was created. This was Very much the get out of jail free card over 1975.

I walked away before 1975 but I remember picking up a newspaper in 1976 and reading a report on how the WTBTS spun and weaselled regarding “we’ve still got time, when was Eve created?” There was even a figure from the JW hierarchy of 9 months 🥱

That pyramid teaching, I remember in my teens (late 1980's) finding one of those early books in a Northwich antique shop, they had a small book room and I was overjoyed to find an old publication.
Can't remember the book title and sadly it's lost now.
(You may recall Lloyd at the Manchester assembly in Northenden, they would sometimes have a stock of old yearbooks etc that you could add to your collection)
Anyway I go this book and was excited to tell an elder what I had added to my collection and that it mentioned the great pyramid with diagrams but he very sternly warned me about reading old society literature as it was old light and not upto modern JW thinking.
I was almost made to feel like I was being an apostate just for owning it.

Lol I've been questioning this religion even when I was a kid. It didn't make sense to a 6 year old. And in the back of my mind it worried me a little and I said to myself what if it's all a lie and not the "truth". I'm so glad that doubt manifested in me so young and when I was 18 I left. My whole family stayed. I've always been the outcast but I broke the generational curse put upon my family in the name of Jehovahs witnesses
I had the same thoughts as a child. And I remember asking my grandfather how you know it’s the truth. His answer said it all for me. “You just know it’s true because it’s in your heart”. To which I asked, “well what if it’s not in my heart?” And he said that I was free to make my own decisions, but there are always consequences to decisions. I made my mind up at 12 years old I didn’t want to be part of something that was basically a fairytale in my mind. I ran away from home, and was then banished from my home from my decision to run away and not be a witness. It was a hard life, and I have problems now as a older adult, but I think I came out ok considering what I had gone through growing up and being in the streets at such a young age. I was scared, hungry, tired, and no one in that religion would help. They all turned a blind eye. What kind of people would allow this? You’d have to be a psychopath to think this is right! My mother wouldn’t even have anything to do with her grandchildren because of me. She died no knowing her grandchildren. How sad is that. All she cared about was money, and what others in the religion thought of her!

I feel we all need a support group for former witnesses so we can lean on each other and help others who are thinking about leaving. We were also taught that a day is as a 1000 years to us back when we started in the JW world in 1959, continued through early seventies and the 7000 and the number 7 was both a conflicting time line and 7 being heavenly perfection, now the discrepancies may have been with the human men in elder positions and their misinterpretation or just plain Herman error, but there definitely, in my world was contradictions.
I remember trying to point out to my mom, and the elders that we should apply the 1000 years is a day to the "last days" if we really want to know how far we are from Armageddon. I was told I was contradicting the Bible, and trying to mislead my own mother.
Oh all the JWs I know that have visited the pyramids and posed for pictures in front of them 😂

Definitely the 6,000 year ending in 1975 was taught back then in mid 60's in the book that I studied "The Truth That Leads To Everlasting Life " which said that 1 day in God's eyes is a 1,000 years to mankind and that 6,000 years was ending in 1975 which of course as I've mentioned in the past that this book was revised to take their lies out! Amazing how they can get away with anything and hide their teachings of the past.

The description of the creation referring to pedestals, keystone, foundation, etc is poetry, figures of speech which occur many times in the Psalms, Song of Solomon and the books of the prophets. The Bible is not a scientific or history handbook, but was written exclusively to guide and direct us to live a healthy and productive life, having a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father

the Watchtower Jan. 1, 1976. When was it printed? When written? Well before 1975 was over, Watchtower had their excuses ready of why their predictions did not come true.

I haven’t been in a Kingdom Hall since 1969, I was 15, that 42,000 years was the teaching I was raised on 🤣. That then blended into (wait for it) Archbishop Ussher’s chronology + 7,000 years god rests (-1,000 throw Satan in the pit) = 1975 we’re all going to die 🤯
It is all fuzzy now but the dogma was “end of 6,000 years of man on earth”

I'm a Christian who believes that the world creation took millions upon millions of years. The days the Bible describes may be the day God decided to start His new creation, but it took a VERY long time to finish. That's all. Except man, since we've only existed for a few hundred thousand years.

in the mid 70‘s I was a (young) pimi elder… but every time I had to mention this teaching in a study or a public talk, I was deeply ashamed! my (worldly) job was to teach logics and maths, but there is not the faintest reason to believe that all creation days had the same length! but fortunately it was a trigger for my progressive leaving…ten years later

Like Ted Bundy was actually a loving person, because while he raped, tortured and killed people, he didn't eat them like Jeffrey Dahmer did? Makes as much sense as this "divine command" being loving because it could be worse.

I'm in my late 60s and I remember hearing the 7x7,000 in my lifetime.
If God is the God of Truth, then God would never want us to be religious.
Every witness who'd I'd ever talked to about the days of creation wasn't going by the doctrine then. I'd always heard that each day represented a thousand years. And I'd heard people say that a thousand years is like a day to Jehovah. I never heard anything about 42,000.

The teaching about the gap between Adam and Eve's creation was still very much alive in my old congregation. People would talk about it and speculate all the time. To suggest that Adam lived for decades before the creation of Eve, they would say that he had time to name all the animals, that it must've taken years! And then he realized he felt lonely because he was the only human while all the animals had companions. But they would also say that it couldn't have been that long because we are clearly in the last part of the last days. And that's how we would always explain the failure of 1975. I didn't realize it was a ghost teaching hahah

Be gracious and concede that the Bible is not giving a scientific account of the creation, it’s giving you litterateur, some in form of poetry, some in the form of myths to give their philosophical/religious understandings…
24:50 Just because it was dark at first does not mean the Bible suggests that the earth existed before the sun. When God said "Let there be light," it most likely meant that He created the earth's atmosphere, WITHOUT which the light of the sun would fail to illuminate. The moon has no atmosphere, and that's why it always has a "night sky" in photos taken on its surface.
The number of supplanted teachings within Watchtower publications is downright ridiculous.

Adam was created on the sixth day, and he died at the age of 930 years, as it says in the Bible in Genesis chapter 5 verse 5. Which I am guess happened years after the seventh day of creation. So are Jehovah's Witness saying the Adam lived for more then 7,000 years, and are they saying that God rested for 7,000 after creating the Earth and the universe? It seams crazy to me.
As I remember from my childhood the creative days were 7,000 years each with us living in the 6th day almost at the end and that would end in 1975. It was first mentioned I believe in the 1904 New Creation page 19 and later in New Heavens page 43, The Truth Shall Make You Free page 57 and Let God be True page 155. They explained the light dilemma by saying the water in the firmament blocked light from the sun but over the period of 14,000 years the mist cleared enough for the light to finally peek through and now there is enough light for plants to grow. They alluded that the planet was once like Saturn with rings of water and minerals. The Truth Shall Make You Free page 58. On page 67 they explain earth’s extinctions and limestone deposits as some of earth’s rings falling. Far out shit here. This is the first book I remember studying and as a young child it left its mark on me. This book also has a lot of chronology that if you add up the dates you come to 1975 or close to it. Remember this book was written in 1943 and I was studying it probably about 1950 and I did the math. I got in trouble for that because I was running ahead of Jehovah

The Branch started sending out letters advising congregations & publishers to destroy certain publications & videos. They’ve been trying to purge their past for a while.
I remember as a COBE, I wanted to ensure our Kingdom Hall was a history library, not that I was aware of what were in those publications. Had WTs from the late 1800’ all the way til current. Friends who were in their late 90’s had them & donated them.
Let me just say our C.O was less than impressed, stating World HQ have these & we’ve been instructed not to keep certain literature. Welp, that led me to read & when I tell u my mind was blown! My goodness! It became abundantly clear y they wanted these things destroyed.

Time is relative. What seems like an eternity from the perspective of a human with a very brief lifespan and limited mind would indeed be a ‘nano second’ from the perspective of an eternal all powerful being.

Why would Satan need to build something so expansive to mislead when God's own organisation has created their own falsehoods from their own theories?

Re 1975. So when they talk about "new light" they are literally talking a the dawn of day they didn't think would exist.
Actually the 7 days being like 50K years was still being preached and talked about down here in Latinamerica. It is considered to be much more sensible by people preached to. As the calculation for it comes from other examples of when God's 'days' in prophesy and such days are not actually 24 hours.
The logic is. "How is there a day before even the sun and moon?" Days werent even a thing yet. That's how we would hook people when preaching

When I was fighting with my Elders It would always get to some more reasonable explanation.
But this helps note how that detail was not in the books. When this is pointed out they'd just say well the book is a guide our interpretation that makes sence of it is where belief comes from
