I was a true JW believer in 1914, because they said the leaders were “guided by the Holy Spirit” into the understanding of Daniel 4. But time ran out and when they came out with “the overlapping generation” teaching - I realized that they do not know more than we do. They are false teachers!!

Funny for an Org that talks about building a firm foundation, and being careful to not build your foundation on sand, when they in fact built their entire foundation on sand.
Such a brittle teaching, attackable from so many angles.
What really shocks me more out of this video is their blatant misanthropy. How they seem disgusted by & even hate humanity. They trivialize all of mankind’s progress: the arts, the cultures, the skyscrapers, the stories, the discoveries, the inventions, the spaceships, the sacrifices, the dreams, the companionships, the equal rights, the beautiful complexity and uniqueness of every human being is worthless in their eyes because it isn’t “perfect” or “paradise”. They believe the only way to better the world is to destroy everything to make way for a “perfect” being to lead, despite the fact that a “perfect” being can’t & will never exist. It’s just you and the other humans on this lonely planet. Treat them well. Living like in constant anticipation of doomsday & disgust of humanity is neither healthy nor loving.

Many times I came across this “prophecy” whilst doing my personal study. It was always a challenge teaching it to others. You accept it because you don’t want to be disobedient. And you tell yourself “it makes sense, it’s me who doesn’t get it”. I look back now and it’s more than obvious it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, it’s stupidly ignorant and manipulative. But they rely heavily on people’s ignorance to perpetuate the bs. Keep up the good work Lloyd, you’ve helped me nearly 10 years ago and since then I’ve helped 2 family members. Your job is priceless
It doesn’t make sense these days because now it basically hangs exclusively in two biblical texts one in Daniel, one in Revelation; when Russell and others first started teaching it it was supported by many other rationalizations, “proofs” as they used to called them in the books of the late 1800’s; some of them kinda biblical talking about the Greater Jubilee, some not so much based on Pyramidology, at the time it was very convincing, BS but very convincing then with time out of those Proofs the failed “dates” of the end came about and they have to get rid of them. They still have some remanente of those, like the installment is the “slave” in 1917, which date is nowhere in the Bible and most modern JW don’t even know how we came with that date. Now days is just a patchwork of beliefs.
It’s always interesting to me how many JWs are completely ignorant of their own organization’s history and failings. For all their arrogance, the Governing Body has done a remarkable job gaslighting, indoctrinating, dumbing, and manipulating their own followers. It sadly seems like many JWs genuine believe their org is “perfect” and any negative info on it is automatically a “lie”. I hope we can help these people through the internet and increasing info access.
I was never a JWs and the only encounter I had with them was agreeing to do Bible Studies while in college.
Their teachings are absolutely ridiculous and can not be proven whatsoever.
I would ask critical question after critical question and they did not answer not even ONE Question!!!

@@lauragubala8313. Expose and arrest the abusers and exploiters. As for the rest, well, try to help and educated as many as we can. Give them compassion through their trauma and indoctrination. We can’t (and shouldn’t) force beliefs onto people but we can try to bring them back to reality and de-radicalize them. Teach them how to act HUMAN rather than a mindless fanatic drone serving a misanthropic doomsday cult.
JW's have always done that with regards to bible teachings. Take one isolated scripture from one part of the bible and another isolated scripture from a different part, do some mental gymnastics, and then somehow tie them together.
The issue here is that I would guess 90% of all the JWs don't understand the whole 1914 thing themselves and can't explain it to others. So they just take it on face value, and don't even think, that this is something important.

I turned my back on watchtower at the age of 12. My youth was a constant fight against my believing father. I could tell you stories .........
I was raised a JW and this teaching is one of the most important that I held to that made me beleive we were right. It just really felt like proof to me that we had a deeper understanding of the bible than any other group. And of course, ww1 started in 1914, prooving the date was significant. I will never forget the night I felt like something might be up with the religion and I googled 607bce in attempt to strengthen my faith, only to find the date was a lie. It was like pulling a jenga block out and watching the whole tower fall in an instant.

What are some questions to ask jw regarding 1914
We can start by asking where in history can they point to that proves the city of Jerusalem actually fell in the year 607. Pretty sure they won’t be so ecstatic about preaching this then, will they?
Do more research on 607 b.c.e. You will the accuracy you seek. Social media is full of apostates and false prophets demonic possessed to mislead the masses. Talk to an Elder at your local congregation for accurate knowledge.
As an active witness, when I knew I didn't understand the 'math,' early on, I just refused to preach it or talk about it to anyone period. Then when 'they' started pushing forward the 'generation' I knew it was wrong.
Ray Franz is the author of the 'genealogy' article in the Aid to Bible Understanding bk. He knew the 587 date was correct, but 'they' made him put in the 607 date. This was the beginning of his personal wake-up, plus other things.

You did an excellent job breaking this down. I was born into this cult and got out in 1970. Lot of people believed the end was coming in 1975 and told me to hold off. I left and went to college and had a wonderful life. Sorry to say that my friends that stayed did do so well. 1914 was what was drummed into us. The 1914 generation has passed and many are bitter. Good for you! I was 16 in 1986 and indoctrinated from the age of 5. According to them, the end would come anytime. I was terrified, and bullied out of college. I realized I'd been conned when they all died and it was suddenly "Anyone who was around in 1914 will be around when Armageddon arrives". They stole my education and are pushing the same lies at current JW teenagers. It all worked out well enough, I left at the age of 42, when I refused to indoctrinate my young son with this crap.

@@LloydEvans there’s a guy called Greg Stafford (an ex JW) who has started the JW religion all over again but without the false teachings of 1914. I remember you done a short video about if the WT ditched the 1914 doctrine then they could still keep their members & actually be a religion teaching the truth (do you know which video I mean?) Anyway Greg left the JW’s & kept some of the teachings of the JW’s like Jehovah being the true God & Jesus is his only begotten son etc (but no 1914 Jesus ruling from Gods Kingdom). He has his own you tube channel called CWJah

A common theme is that they all have the arrogance (narcissism) that they have The Truth and create isolated communities of 'us' and 'them'. If you really want to know The Truth it is necessary to not not have blind faith in any religious leaders and check all the references in context, and learn the factual evidence by historians, archaeologists and other scientists. Of course, the risk you of doing your own investigation is the awareness that it isn't just the 1914 prophecy that was made up by the JWs. You may also like to ask yourself why you need a religious leader to interpret the Bible for you and tell you how to live your life.

This always bothered me growing up I would ask different brothers and sisters to help me to understand 1914 and how it was determined to be the year Jesus began ruling. In all my years as a JW nobody was ever able to clearly explain it to me. Then later when I did my own research I found the history of this date to be very conflicting but again when I tried to speak to other JW's about it, they would tell me this is what happens when you look into apostate information... I was literally looking at books written by Charles Taze Russell. I'm still not "free" as some of you call it there is always a battle going on in my mind of what ifs and sometimes I don't wanna be bothered with the bible at all because of everything i've been through with it. It's disturbing how you can be raised into this religion and left out in the cold when you actually make TRUTH a priority and you decide to stop letting others think for you or interpret the words you read in the scriptures. I say all this to say to anyone else going through this, my heart goes out to you as I try to find accurate knowledge truth and peace of mind, a mind free of controlling fears from religion government or any other human source, I hope you find it as well. My heart aches for the elderly long time believers who are now aware of the error of their beliefs but they have nowhere to go and no one to help. They have no pension savings because they were told they wouldn’t need to have savings or pensions. Not all countries have government help available for the needy.
Very sad,. Yet they do not give out aid or help to older ones. This sector is not cared for..... Branch offices do not give aid either. Will quote scripture at you, but that will not feed you. Lloyd made a video of Polish jws advertising help to Ukraine aid.

Even if you " do the math" in the bible itself as to what years he became king and how long he had been king when it happened, the date STILL comes out to 587. NOT 607.

Not to mention it says Jerusalem and the surrounding nations would be desolated and have to pay homage to nebuchadnezzar. According to the bible, all happened at the beginning of his rule not in his 18th year when he took the temple.
It says they were to pay homage to nebuchadnezzar for 70 years with consequences for not obeying him. Of course they didnt obey which lead to him taking three groups of exiles from Jerusalem. The first and biggest was in this 11th year. The second was in his 18th which is also when he destoyed the temple.
The historical dates perfectly align with the bibles narrative and timeline until jws go and butcher this whole thing by forcing the 70 years to start at the second exile.

And they always conveniently forget the verse that says, to God, a day is like a thousand years, which would give us 2,520,000 years from "607 BC", which of course wouldn't be close enough in time to get anyone to care. Also, a time being 360 days is based on a 360-day year. But then, when they convert those days back into years again, they are happy to use the 365/366-day years provided by our current calendar to get to 1914. However, if they used 2,520 360-day periods, that wouldn't get them to 1914 AD. The whole thing is just utter contrived nonsense, and it depresses me that people fall for it...

I'm not a Jehovah witness, but I need to say, the calendar of the Jews is very close to our calendar if not the same. That's because of the leap years.
Still, the 1914 doctrine doesn't make sense at all because of simple context issues and calculation
I caught that when I was about ten and it was being studied the second time in the book studies. I was told, basically, shut up, keep it to myself, pray for understanding and it would be made clear to me. At ten, one is willing to do a lot of what one is told.
I'm sure they would've said, with a 49,000-year-old earth no way that could be what Danny meant! They have tons of personal time and effort covering up or correcting failed prophecies... but were unable to let go of their faith in their same and constantly failing and flailing around prophets.
When I studied this concept, I was willing to believe it believing the G B had somedeep understanding. BUT when it didn't come true and we gave it 20 more years to be fulfilled for good measure, and it still didn't come true time for me to wake up and say goodbye.
The various generations of leadership of the Watchtower Society have long presented themselves as being “God’s sole channel of communication”. But with all the failed prophecies, abandoned doctrines, changed teachings, etc, it’s clear to see that the channel isn’t clear at all ! Somehow there’s a lot of static, interference, and dropped signal.

Ancient Egyptians never recorded any losses. Anything that could be considered embarrassing or weak was simply not recorded. Even if they were fighting a losing war, you'd still see them saying that they were still winning battles, but just closer and closer to home (retreat). Maat was their philosophy, natural order of the world, which placed Egypt right below the gods.
If some slaves were able to escape, they'd never mention it. Some historians believe that if Exodus did happen, the numbers in the Bible were highly exaggerated. Instead of 600,000 slaves, it must have been around 60-100. The population of Egypt at the time would have been around 2,000,000. 600,000 slaves would have been impossible to manage. Either way, someone, somewhere, made some sh*t up, and we're still sorting through it.

You are doing such good work. When I was a JW, pre internet, getting info was hideous. No one to talk to, all friends JWs. Nutted it all out, finally, but then took years to chuck it all in because wife was JW. Now we look back with horror at the manipulation of the sect.

Ask yourself: “why were all books and magazines published before 1950 removed from Kingdom Hall libraries and thrown into the trash?”
It was done, because reading this material today would wake up” any JW.
But what Lloyd is overlooking is the serious suspenseful music and tick sounds. That makes it all so much more knowledgeable and accurate. Seriously though, well done Lloyd. It blows the 1914 teaching apart so clearly. I got out in 1998 when they started talking about overlapping generations, and decided it was all just made up.
I'm looking forward to this one, a must for any " bible study" who has JWs calling on them and of course any JW who has the slightest doubt.

•Isolate/separate members from the outside world & “worldly” people.

•Divide information between Insider vs. Outsider doctrines: Hide controversial group info from the public & recent recruits.

•Use information gained in confession sessions against you.
•Require you to report thoughts, feelings, & activities to superiors.
•Encourage you to spy & report on others “misconduct” to better maintain control.

A much simpler way to debunk this is Mathew 28 18 where jesus says all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. So all authority had been given to Jesus in the first century but he didn't become king until 1914? Yeah ok that makes sense, not.

I honestly feel lost... I was basically raised in this organization. I began to stray from it when I was about 10 years old (I'm 18 now) but I always had relatives constantly reminding me about the word of Jehovah and how I have to return before it was too late, so a lot of what they said stuck with me. For the past 4 to 5 years I've been in a very bad mental state so I thought I'd give it a second chance... a chance to feel some sort of peace and comfort... 3 days into trying to reconnect I get hit with videos similar to this one and articles calling out the jw organization. I decided to do my own research and I'm slowly finding out that much of what I was taught from a very young age was lies and I feel broken.

Sorry to hear. I was baptized a witness when I turned 19 and started studying in my teens (was not raised as a witness). I’m 47 now and left the borg a few years back. I truly believe that if, after considerable study (not limiting yourself to JW publications) you still feel it’s the truth then you need to return or you will always be held back in your life. But if you’ve convinced yourself, through careful study, that it is NOT the truth then reach out to as many people in your situation as possible to help you transition into a normal life. I enjoyed watching this very much. I’d like to share a quick story. We were studying Revelation-Its grand climax book…we were studying these points and then the trumpet blasts that allegedly heralded the various witness conventions in the late 1910’s and 1920’s…my sister was there and during the book study quite loudly said, “they’re grasping at straws!”
The book study members were appalled and I laughed so much…but I am a doctor and was a ministerial servant at the time so I got away with it…talked with my sister about it later..agreed with her and that put us on the slow path toward exiting this destructive cult…but not before I became an elder and saw the rank injustice for three years and then all three of us (my mother, sister and me) left together in 2002.

I remember me too laughing at this and also at the explanation of the “hailstones” hitting the unbelievers so hard, they were in pain and agony. We were taught, that the tracts we delivered in certain
campaigns were these hard hitting “hailstones”. This teaching was so ludicrous - it got me to finally do some critical thinking and start “looking behind the curtain”. It took some time, but my daughter and I eventually found our way out of this manmade organization. I can’t tell you how glad we are 😅
I can remember going over all of this information as a kid then as an adult and thinking the reason i didnt understand it was that i am just not very good at math. Word problems were never my strength so i just did my best to ignore the issues I saw with it. Like, why should Ezekiel be used in any context beyond that scripture, it simply doesn't say or imply that it should. I can remember essentially thinking that it can only be true if you presuppose that their conclusion is correct and then immediately shutting down that thought and begging God for forgiveness. It's nice not to be gaslit anymore

After reading Crisis of Conscious by Ray Franz I then read Don Cameron's Captive of a Concept exposing the 1914 date. Any lingering doubts were gone just by reading those 2 books. I'm looking forward to hopefully a more succinct and simple explanation. :)
I only read Franz’s book. And it honestly felt like they were tossing ideas in a hat and randomly picking one they could create a story behind. Or “pick a card any card and tell me what you think it means”. That was it. After 38 years in. 11 years out but still tormented with “what if” I was done and free.

Doubling down on this doctrine is one of the biggest mistakes they could have done. Years before I fully woke up I used to dread explaining this doctrine, because I just couldn't get behind the arbitrary logic in it. I just tried to avoid it and try to stick to the WW1 starting then. It is one of the few remnants of the full blown insanity of the 19th century Bible "students", but I guess everything falls apart without it so they have to hold on to it, no matter the cost.
@@OmegaMan. Well I do remember finding out at some point that the war actually started in the summer of 1914, not fall. But this was something I looked up myself, since the org doesn't want to bring attention to it. I honestly used to think that the war started in the fall when I was younger simply because of some sort of confirmation bias I guess without ever lookin it up. But I do vaguely remember that someone has used the apologetic that Satan started to prepare the world beforehand by starting the war before being cast down or some nonsense like that. To be honest I probably thought that the timing was close enough and pushed the discrepancy to the back of my mind. Of course the Governing Body wants to avoid shining a spotlight to any such discrepancies, so we as wittnesses just kinda didn't think about them either. We were trained to avoid any uncomfortable questions and I did feel quilty if I did doubt the things that were interpretations and not demonstrable from the bible, that is doubt the authority of the GB. Although now I would probably ask a wittness what happened in October 1914, because actually nothing of note happened then.

If Satan had begun the war early, it would seem then that he was tipped off ahead of time about being banished, or he can see into the future. That also would present a problem for JW reasoning and apologetics.

But of course reading the Revelation in its original context is much more plausible than what the JWs do. The author John, which by the way wasn't same guy who wrote the Gospel, because this John barely knew how to write Greek, wrote about his day, not our day. It is clear that the beast means Nero, as the values of the letters of his name correspond to 666 and Babylon the Great is Rome, since it has rule over the kings of the earth and was built on 7 hills etc.
By the way if you look up timelines of WW1, say from Encyclopedia Britannica, October is one of the few exceptions in 1914 when nothing of importance happened :). Of course the war was on and battles happened, but nothing memorable.

Good point on the Jesus being clear thing, Jesus did actually refer to Daniel by name in his prophecy about the last days (Matt. 24:15), it would have been consistent for him to refer to the book again when he talked about the Gentile times, if he really meant it.
This can't be made any more crystal clear: well done Lloyd. If JWs want to keep believeing, or at least not seriously question what they are being told, then I have no sympathy. Yes, it's a high control group. Yes, I understand if you've invested all your life (or a great many years) into this belief. However, this is very clear - at the very least, any honest JW should now begin to question their faith; critically and not with any sort of bias.

What JWs or we believe is that we are living the "invisible" presence of Jesus since 1914 which in the Bible clearly states every one including non believers will SEE Jesus coming. One thing I point it out to three elders was that if Jesus came invisibly in 1914 then he didn't found a faithful and discreet slave therefore declaring it evil because the " the faithful and discreet slave" was appointed not until 1919. I would suggest to my family “If this year was truly so significant, why isn’t it in the Bible?” Ofc that didn’t do much to open their eyes. They told me that I just didn’t have enough faith. It’s really sad how there’s a lot of misleading activity going on, but the grasp this cult has on one’s mind-especially to those who are emotionally vulnerable-is astounding in the most horrible of ways.

I worked in NYC for 10 years, and used to walk the indoor perimeter of grand central station at lunchtime, I must have asked 50 JWs about 1914 and the overlapping generation and not a single one could explain this clearly nor consistently… then I met an elder who also was unable to explain it. Months later he disassociated and now has a video with almost a million views, where he explains how 1914 was the awakening point for him.

Why doesn't "time, times and half a time" mean 4 1/2 times or 5 1/2 times or more? I used to think that "times" was some sort of dual number form. But in hellenistic koine Greek, they didn't have a dual number, so who's to say how many "times" means?
That's exactly what was bothering me. When I was a believing JW, I explained it to myself in this way: if we assume (yes, just another assumption) that a "time" lasts as long as a year by ancient calendars (360 days), than the division 1260 / 360 gives us 3.5. But, once again, it was based on yet another assumption, and it also isn't the official teaching. So it seems like the question still stands.
But neither of this actually matters, of course. All these "calculations" just remind me of that meme-picture, where a crazy-looking guy with eyes wide open and messy hair explains his crazy-looking scheme of something to someone.

I can't believe how I spoke to so many people, (unknowingly ), believing that I was telling the truth about our creator and his hand on earth, the GB . I regret every moment of this now, it caused a lot of hurt to these people, families torn apart.

I remember looking up some of these 'reference' scriptures when I was a child in the 80's. They often went to completely irrelevant scriptures. I asked the adults around me why, and they couldn't say. By the time I was 10, I knew the doctrine had major problems.
Right. They have just been making stuff up as they go along, not based on anything. A lot of religions, ministers, preachers, elders, GB, people in power or authority try to do this. It's up to the individual to use good judgement to see through those things that are false, exaggerated, and not take things on faith.
