Being part of these films must in some ways be really depressing for veteran actors who remember real sets, attention to details or crunchtime for daylight. Because now, most everything is done later and you have little concept of what a scene is going to look like, for somebody has an idea and everything is turned on its head... I like my VFX being necessary and not necessarily a sign for lazy cinematography where corners are being cut for convenience. 🤷🏻♂️
@Reef A. yes really, you just dont get it. Its not about stupid tentacles, its about the laziness of shooting a friggin street scene without any action on an actual street instead of a blue screen and edit the house and street in later. Did you not hear him gloat about 80 shots without CG? Even the seatbelt click was re-timed, so its actually 79...

I love seeing how the effects were made and how the movie was made. This was a treat for sure, thanks for uploading this, and filming this during covid, man that's awesome.
TBH, that's why these movies feel more like video game cut scenes. CGI has gotten good but they're still unable to create weight in scenes. The brain can pick out things that don't make sense if an object were there or when something lands heavy. Just put Tom in the suit and let him flip!
I love seeing stuff like this and what goes into the CGI. I figured the fight scenes would be a lot of CG but the stuff like environments looked so good that you didn’t realize it was CGI. I’d like another part to this showing off the CG that went into the Dr Strange fight and the final fight as well
It's explained in this video that sometimes that's done when they don't have the option to do it practically. You don't even notice until it's pointed out to you. It's not bad what they're doing, it's just efficient.
Kinda surprised that they didn't use the Volume for some of these shots. Disney owns it and I think it's at the same Atlanta Pinewood studios (or perhaps in the London studios) but it would have made certain shots easier for the crew and a faster post-production time
The Volume hasn't yet been used in any Disney movie production. Since it uses a video game engine, Unreal Engine 4, movie producers with years in the industry aren't yet comfortable with using it for $200M+ budget movies, despite the Volume being cheaper and visually superior. They would rather do the tried-and-true way. Hopefully soon the volume can be greenlit for movie production.
I am always for practical vs digital. But this was awesome to watch. And I see many film fans say acting today is easier because so much of it is CGI. I disagree with that and say it's more difficult. The actor has to use their imagination and react to things that aren't even there. Or do silly things like talk to a tennis ball lol.
I'll be honest i noticed a lot of the visual effects and although i wish there was more real shots, it was the only way we could get this movie during pandemic so I'm OK with it. but i just miss traditional film making where a lot more is shot for real and looks real.
Oscar worth it for just visual effects, I knew about special effects but man ... They managed to build a whole new world and make it look so real. I can't say what's real and what's not. That's why cinema is an art. Big applause for all that 2d and 3d animators that worked so hard to make this masterpiece possible...
How interesting it is to learn how my favorite movie was made! All the things we can do with technology these days...really love the creativity. It's totally impossible to believe that these scenes are all visual effects...
@@AndyKohl7 2 off the top of my head, Andrew coming out of the portal, his model is so messed up, has no neck hahaha, then on the bridge with doc oc, when he pulls the 2 cars together, it’s so bad it looks so cheap, and a lot of scenes that have cars in the backround as well
It’s funny how so many people complain about CGI and how it’s over used or looks bad, but they don’t even realize how much of these movies really are CGI 😂
I've never understood that. CGI is a tool to create movies. Why are some people so desperated on hating this tool? When someone starts to complain about CGI being used in movies, I immediately lose much of my respect towards them. Complaining about BAD CGI (like in Black Panther) is valid. Complaining about USE of CGI is idiocy.
I lose respect to the actor. I lose respect to the director. This is basically just an animated film. All the actor has to do is take steroids and act out some facial expressions. that harness stunt doesn't impress me. Take a look at The making of Rurouni Kenshin and Takeru Sato's stunts. That is impressive. That is cinema.
I completely understand that using VFX is easier, but MAN... would've loved to see the goblin suit be practical. I know his "new" suit was practical and it looked GREAT.
So I learned that spiderman was basically a really realistic animated movie. Kinda like the lion king remake. Thank goodness we have a movie like the Batman where they filmed in locations. It's a nice change

Yes and No, everything is done in PREVIS ( previsualization), which means the actors has an idea what the environment looks like
@@Ganiscol Shooting in the streets is cool, but is also a logistical and financial nightmare with little control. Most people won’t notice most of the stuff in this video either. If the tool works, it works.
i agree that they do overuse cgi at some points but its also important to remember that this was filmed at the height of covid before vaccines were widespread, jon watts even said they planned a full ny shoot but they had to change that because of covid and simple shots were made difficult because of that too
@@Ganiscol they had to shoot stuff in closed of sets because people would film and post everything if they shot on the streets. And like he mentioned, it would be difficult to block off a highway in new york, probably would ruin a lot of people's day too.
13:13 Tom Holland really went full Spider-Man to do his own stunts while wearing motion capture.
the attention to detail is insane
Yes they went through so much to make it look like real life even though they could have just filmed in real locations and actually gave the film an aesthetic
@@stupididiot6993 they couldn't, he basically said that filming in real location was a daunting task.
I love seeing how the effects were made and how the movie was made. This was a treat for sure, thanks for uploading this, and filming this during covid, man that's awesome.
Yes! Now do a breakdown of the whole film.
11:26 He sounded so disappointed when he said “we weren’t able to but the baby in the rotisserie rig.” 😂
23:03 for everyone wanting to see the alternative scene where Tom Holland’s Spider-Man fights green goblin at the bridge.
I’d like another part to this showing off the CG that went into the Dr Strange fight and the final fight as well
What I've learnt with Marvel is always have super unnecessary VFX shots for shots that you could make practically.
Yep, and in some cases it’s cg over things that were done for real
It's explained in this video that sometimes that's done when they don't have the option to do it practically. You don't even notice until it's pointed out to you. It's not bad what they're doing, it's just efficient.
There are a lot of practical reasons why the shots weren't as practical as it could've been
And you don’t notice it so who cares lmao
@@BurgoYT We do notice. It looks fake most times. With every marvel movie. Quality lacks
Kinda sad that the real action stunt shots that these actors train for and do are ultimately just used as 'reference'
Wowza! Just gives you a sense of amazement at how far CGI has come. Especially the reflections in the windows....
It has been used for the Disney+ Star Wars shows and is being used right now in production for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
@@Nick-lz5lx and thor love and thunder
@@Nick-lz5lx the Batman also used it too
I think they're building more locations for it to be used, but as others have said, they're using it for AntMan and Thor.
don't let film twitter snobs see this, they'll suddenly start claiming the movie isn't good just cause there's special effects
His attention to detail is insane! Him pointing out the trash I didn’t even notice
Tom Holland coming up with the wrinkly suit idea is phenomenal!!
11:33 they had a choice to just not put the baby in there. But they did. Respect man
I am always for practical vs digital.
One person that isn’t complaining about visual effects 👍
I actually would have loved to see the fight between Spidey and Goblin on the bridge. I also wish they kept Tobey vs Goblin.
these editor needs an award for what they did
Imagine a breakdown with the whole mirror sequence and the final battle, lit.
12:26 the epic mechanical tentacle sword fight of Iron spider and doc ock.
How interesting it is to learn how my favorite movie was made! All the things we can do with technology these days...really love the creativity. It's totally impossible to believe that these scenes are all visual effects...
i like to imagine how this visual effects can become easier to make and way more realistic in the future.
they definitly were rushed cause a few of the scenes look like a 15yr old messing around with blender
Curious which ones you mean... could you give some examples?
@@AndyKohl7 2 off the top of my head, Andrew coming out of the portal, his model is so messed up, has no neck hahaha, then on the bridge with doc oc, when he pulls the 2 cars together, it’s so bad it looks so cheap, and a lot of scenes that have cars in the backround as well
@@MicahPowell Okay, thank you!
Woah seeing Tom do those stunts with the trampolines and flips was super cool
They do all this just to satisfy our lives by taking out 2 hour and 28 minutes out of our day and pay 13$ to watch there masterpiece, I salute them💜
Spider man has had the craziest week of his life lol.
Tom holland honestly did many of his own stunts, more than I thought he did... WOW!!! HE IS THE MOST ATHLETICALLY ACCURATE SPIDERMAN
Tom has learned Ballet which really helps.
@@travisbickle4360 also the most attuned to gymnastics out of the 3
Man who misses the show movie magic?? The best behind the scenes of fx for movies. This is something like that wish we can get more of this
It’s funny how so many people complain about CGI and how it’s over used or looks bad, but they don’t even realize how much of these movies really are CGI 😂
I've never understood that. CGI is a tool to create movies. Why are some people so desperated on hating this tool?
When someone starts to complain about CGI being used in movies, I immediately lose much of my respect towards them. Complaining about BAD CGI (like in Black Panther) is valid. Complaining about USE of CGI is idiocy.
thats why I appreciated the Batman so much more on a cinematography practiacl
effect spectrum and sound design
@@thesenate9455 It used tons of CGI too and you didn't notice because there were no supernatural stunts. It was just a thriller.
@@ranamores4919 that’s just circus 🎪
I completely understand that using VFX is easier, but MAN... would've loved to see the goblin suit be practical. I know his "new" suit was practical and it looked GREAT.
the bridge scene is right by my neighborhood so if they shot on location i wouldve been able to see it by looking out my window
Visual effects artists are the real heroes in movies.
Exactly I agree
Kudos to you guys and your entire Special & Visual effects team it’s absolutely incredible the attention to detail you guys went to thank you!❤️
Tom is such the GOAT - omg so talented
GOAT?
Yes , his physicality is unmatched
@@LB-ih7hn Oh yes I obviously knew. I always go around asking people to define words I already know. While I'm at it, define "greatest."
I love the low key shade he throws at Tony Revolori at 1:25 for not being available on the day they shot the scene
So I learned that spiderman was basically a really realistic animated movie. Kinda like the lion king remake.
Thank goodness we have a movie like the Batman where they filmed in locations. It's a nice change
Yes sir, hope sam raimi make 4 movie for tom, ag least he will wear a real spidey suit (i hope)
Man i would watch a whole VFX breakdown of the whole movie
I love the movie at all but the visual effects in the last of the movie for Andrew and Toby wasn't really good specially the scene that they was swinging on the Statue of Liberty.
20:14 definition of surprise and delight
As much as I like the Tom Holland Spiderman movies, the practical effects of Sam Raimi's films made it feel more raw and real.
For some of these being cgi didn’t even look like it to me with what you’ve just shown us. Like that’s crazy. I want more please 🙏. Y’all have done a amazing job
Tom is so talented and amazing that's why he is the best spider-man/peter Parker 🔥🐐❤😍
