So sad that gerda Nicholson passed away 5 years after this at the very young age of 54. Such a beautiful elegant lady . RIP ❣️

LOL - I absolutely love how while Joan was governor, she took down those nice rose paintings from the gov's office. As soon as Reynolds is back, the rose paintings are back up. It's the little touches like this that make Prisoner so great.

Wasn't meant to be. All good things must come to an end. I think it's a blessing it didn't run on for too long otherwise it would have become very stale like other soaps.

Good old Prisoner is starting to feel hollow and empty as it enters into its last days. It was a great run for 7 years!

@@madwatermelon1316 For sure... it picks up again towards the very end, but right around this episode you could feel the emptiness as they were winding things down. Sad really after all the high drama and storylines over the years of the show!
@@josephd.2725 Sad but also good in a way as it wraps up nicely. The 1986 episodes are some of the best. The only weak character left in the show is Lisa Mullins.

I think they drew some of inspiration from Susie Driscoll for the character of Brumby. Both characters always talked of escaping. Plus, Brumby uses Joyce's clothes and glasses in an attempt to escape much in the way Susie used Joyce's glasses in her very unsuccessful escape attempt way back in the Sandy Edwards/ Marie Winter/ Kate Peterson era. The theory of character recycling certainly holds true to form here.

They also recycled Lizzie with Lettie and Doreen with Maureen. Heck, they even come up with similar sounding names.
I disagree. Susie was a memorable sympathetic character, so beautiful whereas Brumby is dull and vapid

Seeing the freak brought down a peg or two is satisfying but sad at the same time. The last 300 episodes would have being boring without her storylines.

Tony Osicka who directed this episode along with many others is still directing to this day he currently directs many episodes of 'Neighbours'.
For someone who is gung ho about security, Joan had numerous break-ins as though she never secured her home properly. Two dogs dead, and enormous damage to her home. She knows fook-all about security.

Some of the actors in the past really hated eachother. Val Lehman (Bea Smith) for example hated Elspeth Ballantyne (Meg Morris). Elspeth got Val into trouble at one point when she went and told the producers that Val was claiming a commuting allowance she was no longer entitled to.

I actually didn't like the joan fergusan show. I mean parts of it were ok, but I thought she should have been just another story line. it was too much for me, but it is what is or was. The show did just FINE before she came along. Although I always thought Bea smith just melted and wimped out at the end. she was supposed to be so tough, but 2 old women beat her if you remember when that one ugly top dog took over......and had them do it. Bea didn't even fight back. so she lost it at the end.
Anne certainly didn't make the show what it is.
Meg was the only one consistent character throughout the whole series from first to last episode. Or was Joyce around at the beginning? Im not sure. She just seemed to gradually appear more and more in it
@@adamkrueger2741 Yes Joyce was in it early on but sometimes we never saw her for weeks on end. It was only after Collen 'Po-Face' Powell left to travel around the world that Joyce became a main character.

From memory, I think it was something she got completely wrong a couple of episodes ago, and she joked that she'd put her head down the dunny and flush if she was proven wrong! May I just say, Tracey Morris... quite the annoying little spoiled brat, but OMG her stunning beauty is to die for!! lol

The shower block off reception is different and only used by inmates when they first come into the prison. The day-to-day shower block is within H Block
Why they axed it. I will never know they could have developed it a bit more like we. Never did find out what happened to Doreen and lizzie after they were released. Also Judy. Susie Driscoll. And pixie
I really hope Susie got adopted by the lady's family, Judy is a writer and she also sings, and Pixie finally recovered when Judy went to see her and broke through the shield Pixie was inside and like Laurie ran to Judy crying and started speaking again. Then went home to her Mum and Dad, who got back together. Pixie got better and became a nursery school teacher. But that's my imagined stories.
And Doreen got back with Kevin again and became pregnant and gave birth to a little boy they named Kevin Michael Burns.
They axed it because it had really run out of steam and viewing figures had dropped massively. The network decided to make new soap operas instead because viewers had become tired of Prisoner. The set for prisoner was then used to film the early episodes of Neighbours.
Back in the 1970s and 1980s, the average Aussie soap seemed to last around 5-6 years. Popular shows like The Young Doctors, The Sullivans, Sons & Daughters and Cop Shop all lasted about the same. I don’t think Prisoner could have survived another year, especially as Glenda Linscott would have been gone - I believe her contract was up by episode 692

Apparently the number of viewers watching the show had declined significantly in the final year. The actress who played Lizzie left the show of her own accord as did Betty Bobbitt who played Judy. I doubt they would've returned. The show had "run it's course" as they say.
After 1985 and the dreadful, twee, dull storylines with the Barnhurst lot, upping the action and violence for 1986 was too late to stop the rot I guess. The Barnhurst bores were a gamble that just didn’t pay off
@@Redsleather It's a shame as I think the Barnhurst lot era really did for Prisoner. I remember watching those episodes for the first time in the UK in the early 90s and found a big difference from the earlier episodes. That awful cooking competition thing with Mervyn and Joyce, the tedious Jenny Hartley story, dull characters like Daphne, the scared straight storyline, the council....

29/6/17 - I can't remember previous storylines, that well. I think I'll probably start watching the whole series again from the beginning. When I've finished watching episode 692. Not sure when though.
The most shocking scene in pcbh is when Nola McKenzie kills that prisoner girl, whose about to be released, just so she can stay in Wentworth. 😳
And the funniest scene in pcbh is when Meg and Reynolds have been kidnapped, and Meggipops, tied up, stood up, shuffles twice, moaning and falls flat on her face hitting the floor, moaning. (I chuckled remembering the scene). When I first saw it, I laughed out loud like I hadn't laughed in years and years. I watched it a few times and laughed just as hard. 😂

Lorelei in effect put the final nails in Joan's coffin she let craven and his cronies tape Lori and terrorise the other women and little zoe it made her realise what Ferguson was like the last ep3would have been an ideal opportunity to get rid of her and arrest her for corruption she had run her course

14 episodes left. And it seems like we've had every possible suspension of disbelief storyline barring alien invasion.
And yet.. I personally still find the most far-fetched thing to have happened in the entire series, is that Ann would have let a smelly creature like Wally anywhere near her. Let alone have sex with the disgusting man.
If I was a woman in 1980's Australia, and Wally approached me, I'd have been calling the local bobbies to come give him a bit of 'truncheon therapy.' He's not my most disliked male character in the whole series. But that's only because cringy, bad acting, bad accent, Cleary existed.
Though at least the writers had the decency to give us viewers the satisfaction of seeing Cleary removed from the show with a bullet. Shame they didn't shoot woeful Wally at the same time. (possibly with the same bullet. for the achievement. like Resident Evil games usually have an achievement for killing 2 zombies with 1 shot?)

Mrs Reynolds comment about not being able to have freedom without responsibility made me smile. I know it's within the context of a prison, but that is very anti-Rousseauian : )
