One thing wrong with roundabouts, the amount of lanes or only affected by the number of lanes coming into it. This could be done better. The inability to control the lane direction, even with the unofficial mods they have out, you cant change a roundabouts lane direction, it even says on the mod, only works for 3/4 way intersections. I really don't like setting operating districts everywhere, except when I have a remote zone or secondary towns. that's exactly why I don't like setting operating districts everywhere. You are bound to forget something and it can be extremely difficult to troubleshoot afterwards
31:35 That in the game solving traffic jams put 6 lanes for vehicles (2 of which are shared with the tram) rather than 4 lanes for vehicles + 2 exclusive for the tram, makes us realize how bad the pathfinding simulation is and the 'choice of transport mode in this game. Because as you could already see in kettlebridge, you put in place a huge network of public transport and the traffic flow % continued in the same order. As urban planners explain, in real life there's a concept called "induced demand," where one fewer lane of cars on a boulevard means people choose an alternate route or mode of transportation , since people perceive that 2 lanes have slower traffic and are easily jammed than with 3 lanes and if on the same avenue there is a tram with an exclusive lane that allows it to overtake all the cars and go faster, already people don't think about it: leave the car at home and take the tram. On the other hand, if the tram shares space with the car and has to eat traffic jams and is slow, and also with the car they have 3 lanes instead of 2, people will go by car and they will collapse it for you. On the other hand, the faster it is to move, the longer the journeys that the population will choose to make. If they put in lanes, people will perceive that commuting is fast and will make longer and more frequent trips, collapsing it more and more.
I believe the High Rent problem is only fixable now by using the LandValue Overhaul mod (unofficial). Heard a lot of good results from it. It also remedies the need for high rise/high density buildings in early city centers, which is not that realistic if you’re not planning on building a Singapore. Thanks for the video 😊
Yeah Im only now realizing the only way to ratchet down rent is the land value shenanigans. Ive been subsidizing my citizens with negative tax rates for too long! Its chaos!!!
What I've found in my current build is that upgrading 4 lane roads with dedicated tram tracks down the middle really reduces traffic. The results are staggering, even if it's somewhat counterintuitive, cause you end up reducing the number of lanes available for vehicle traffic. but you need a good public transit design for that. I use the trams as the backbone of my transit network, linking my various bus lanes together. city is only 24k though. will have to see how this works at larger population levels.
Induced demand is a funny concept in the urban planning that many don't seem to get. You'd think "one more lane bro" has proven it's inefficiency by now.
Pedestrian crossings are an absolute menace in the game and I can't believe not more people are talking about it. In my couple of cities on CS2 about 75% of traffic problems has been pedestrian crossing related.

I feel like if you delete a line with 0% usage, that may also be BECAUSE there are no vehicles available and it wasn’t operating in the first place, so deleting it won’t help the lack of vehicles, and the line may actually be fine. 0% just seems a bit too low.

First city fix i've watched since CS2 first launched. Have to say it's still rather disappointing. Not the fix but how mediocre the traffic jam is, and honestly you only seem to get this in CS2 if you actively try to mess up your city. Never mind that the city is still making money and growing like this lol.
What I found that helped my traffic areas are adding one ways and 3 to 4 lanes at traffic light of off ramps. Roundabouts works sometimes but not all the time. Also, I am using mods.
First thing I noticed in the city regarding traffic, was a [underground] parking lot on a main road, and a non free flowing on/off ramp at downtown area. For best flow I would have that one Hwy that ran from one side to the other (outside the downtown area), and a secondary [split-off] that would run through the downtown area. I also wonder if there is any subway, which relieved a lot of my traffic issues when I had over 100k. Every subway car is what(?), like 260 cars off the roads? In education, and with over 100k people, I have noticed (pre any fixes, coming soon I think) you need about 10 to 15 Elementary Schools to balance the education. Hopefully the fix on the way will bring a bit more realism to the Elementary to High School ratio. Currently in game (as mentioned above) you can have a city of 100k and need 10-15 Elementary Schools, but not even fill 1 High School. IRL, 2 to 3 Elementary Schools fill up 1 Middle School, and 2 Middle Schools fill up 1 High School. The issue in game isn't just that a High School doesn't hold over 2-3k students, it's that not everyone goes from Elementary to High School, of if they do it's a much shorter time frame.
Glad it is back the Cityfixing. @ 24:50 i see a problem whit the setup ther well seen some seconds leater to that the trafic from the highway isent gona switch off and goes right back to the highway. Meybe you have to make the switchoff under the incoming from the roundabout or make it more accesible for the offgoing trafic. Edit: Damn 1 min leater he fix all that ^^
These videos are so cool and glad to see them back, this city has some very cool looking aesthetics (both before and after fix)....how do I get my city fixed😆?, maybe not as good looking as this city but 416,000 pop and declining fast even with 1% residential taxation
if your running out of ideas on city builds for cs2, why not try an hexagonal city roads build only with the new ai, it be neat to see how the ai can work in such an world city it be neat to see it in action when the city becomes huge how the traffic might flow out.
only 14k elementary students in a 111k city !!! Wow, In my cities the school population would be like 99K ; ) Not only are the grade schools massive but you need absurd amounts of them.
im sorry but this didnt seem that bad. I think you can do better in terms of finding broken cities that need fixing. I love the series and hope you do more. just make them more challenging for yourself!
Biffa here 17:46 you forgot to select the small districts on the most populated area, the one with the hospital and others at 17:50 (Myrtle croft, Thornton Acres, ''something'' Grove and Mulberry ''something'', couldn't see some of it's name) Edit: now i saw the small districts have the hospital coverage
Biffa before you delete Buslines that aren’t being used. Please check for the available busses. They weren’t used because nobody can use them! The vehicles were missing! That one was seriously driving me nuts. Hide the symptom and not care for the cause. You were adding bus depots after the fact, but why delete the lines?
Could you fix high rent by placing one length of highway on each road surrounding the business districts? That way the spread of property values would be stopped instead of creeping down the local streets?????
I haven't played CS2 in a couple of months, but enjoy the vids. I still have faith the game will be amazing, but have accepted that may not be for 6-12 months. These fix my city vids are cool!
@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines have you built a city yet designing it to only using assigning districts of schools and resources to specific districts to work, even when I set to only work a district, they still go out the city or to places I dont want them, just thought Id ask, awesome content. Keep it up :) EDIT: I notice another thing I deal with and I saw it in this video. So you got 10 vehicles and a crap ton of symbols saying a vehicle is needed yet the hospital is only using 3/10???? I notice that with everything, including garbage, it never uses the vehicle counts?
It looked like you didn't select the district the hospital in actually in when you did the operating district for it. It might have only been one big downtown district but it looked like it was 2 districts and you only choose one.
I have one big problem with traffic fixing. They give you some good tools (definetly not enough).. but even those tools just don‘t work. For example, I hate it, that pedestrians also walk across the street, when you removed the crosswalk and built a pedestrian bridge. It just not realistic, that so many people will cross a seven lane road without a crosswalk and traffic lights, instead of using the bridge. 😢
I think Biffa is a little insecure about his career when it comes to migrating from CS1 to CS2. Yes, the idea of the games is the same, and so is his content based on the game, but by losing mods and all the ease of life tools and nitpicks that didn't get included in the newer game, and so he feels like he has to adapt to the game to continue giving the baseline quality of his content when compared to times before. And that is called stepping out of your comfort zone, YET, the video on his thoughts on the game, it just shows here that I'm kind of right, all he can do is make videos of this slightly modded game, till he waits for updates/expansions/mod support. And that isn't called stepping out of the comfort zone, its called influencing the social opinions (not just feedback) to move that comfort zone to him. That is my observation and opinion, I don't want to come off as critical, just a 3rd person view and take on the "devil's advocate" approach. I hope you acknowledge that this is a different game, not just a succesor with high expectancy. The dews have their own choice where they want to move the game forward, don't they? Cuz I know it's not as simple as just "move all the assets from CS1 to CS2" cuz of the main differences that would complicate such an update, and so does that go to the other nitpicks you discussed in that video. Again - not as simple, it's a new game, and you need to suit your content to it.
I love your problem solving skills. I will use your technique on my city that I got up to 230k after the last update. It has since dropped to 140k and lots of wealthy homeless people. I do have a question on how to prevent cims from walking on the highways. Its an eye sore and slows traffic down.

Watching this while drinking coffee, left my tea in the Boston Harbor
🤪
If tea is beer, my beverage of choice is tea
😅
I love watching these, because it is super satisfying to watch you solve all the issues AND, added bonus, I can pick up some tricks along the way 😅😅
Nice break after playing dark souls. Thanks biffa!
That new university next to the brown lake should be called "Poo University" Poo U
I love your fix video's!! They are so informative and really do help! Nice city today and you got it operating really good! 🤩
I love the city fixes. They are fantastic. Will the before and after files be available for download?
no Pension after working your whole life? wow Europe is such a paradise
Edit: Damn 1 min leater he fix all that ^^
satisfying video 😂❤ glad to see city fixing is back 🎉
City fix is so relaxing
I'm surprised nobody said anything about the bridge and the vehicles driving up vertical😂 Nonetheless a great fix.
These videos are so cool and glad to see them back, this city has some very cool looking aesthetics (both before and after fix)....how do I get my city fixed😆?, maybe not as good looking as this city but 416,000 pop and declining fast even with 1% residential taxation
Thank you! Feel free to submit it on my discord 👍
I ask the Lord to let me grow in fear, wonder, and joy.
if your running out of ideas on city builds for cs2, why not try an hexagonal city roads build only with the new ai, it be neat to see how the ai can work in such an world city it be neat to see it in action when the city becomes huge how the traffic might flow out.
only 14k elementary students in a 111k city !!! Wow, In my cities the school population would be like 99K ; ) Not only are the grade schools massive but you need absurd amounts of them.
The tools at my disposal.. its CSL2, there's about 4 tools Mr. Biffa x) #TeaLandBrewsOn
Thank you for fixing my mess! Love your content❤
Good one biffa, thanks for the upload, thanks for doing yet another city fix, finished my cup right as the video ended, splendid
Glad you enjoyed it :-)
im sorry but this didnt seem that bad. I think you can do better in terms of finding broken cities that need fixing. I love the series and hope you do more. just make them more challenging for yourself!
Did you see the next one... that was tough 😅
Ah love watching this series at 1.5 speed ❤️❤️
Biffa here 17:46 you forgot to select the small districts on the most populated area, the one with the hospital and others at 17:50 (Myrtle croft, Thornton Acres, ''something'' Grove and Mulberry ''something'', couldn't see some of it's name)
Edit: now i saw the small districts have the hospital coverage
Biffa before you delete Buslines that aren’t being used. Please check for the available busses. They weren’t used because nobody can use them! The vehicles were missing!
That one was seriously driving me nuts. Hide the symptom and not care for the cause. You were adding bus depots after the fact, but why delete the lines?
Cant wait for the Hugo there mod to get implemented in CS2
The driving skills at 34:44 😮😅 (nr transport options).
So many good tips packed into this video! 🎉
Could you fix high rent by placing one length of highway on each road surrounding the business districts? That way the spread of property values would be stopped instead of creeping down the local streets?????
I don’t really like tea. I much prefer coffee
I haven't played CS2 in a couple of months, but enjoy the vids. I still have faith the game will be amazing, but have accepted that may not be for 6-12 months. These fix my city vids are cool!
Thank you @discgolfbeer :-)
9:39 I guess 🅱️iffa is a cat person ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nooooooooooo
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Well I wasn't thinking of a furry.. but now I am 😂😂😂
It be good if they added a retirement home for a percentage of residents so the homes can cycle before death.
meanwhile drinking my hazelnut coffee straight black
aha this is more like classic Biffa :)
Never played this game but now I want to
love the episode and city fix, keep it up :)
Er...sounds to me like you're just making stuff up about what I'm actually doing 😅
I love your problem solving skills. I will use your technique on my city that I got up to 230k after the last update. It has since dropped to 140k and lots of wealthy homeless people. I do have a question on how to prevent cims from walking on the highways. Its an eye sore and slows traffic down.
