My daughter's estranged husband is in the military, and he was so controlling, emotionally abusive etc. He even punched me in the face over and over one night when I was visiting while my daughter was pregnant. Cops showed up, and they acted like buddies. I was trying to talk to an officer, but kept being told that I didn't need to add anything. Like WTF.
Soooooooo glad she left him.
I am so sorry 😔 the cycle of abuse is very cunning and can sneak up on people then you blink and it's been however long still with the abuser. Stay safe, know your rights -and exercise them. please never give up 🙏🏻

@@sakunaru0The murders took place prior to his military service
The system needs to change, with having the conflict of interest dynamic that often has men with authority…(law enforcement) who will more likely identify with the abuser (male who craves power).
Way too often, women have been dismissed, invalidated, not believed, when sexual assault, violence, occurs.
Who wants to depend on similar people to help you, as who hurt you? Seriously?
There needs to be HUGE reform in this area. The irony is that these men, who act like they ‘already know’…arrogance…often are very ignorant to all the aspects, neuroscience, of abusers and the abused. Essentially, they will look at the variables in the equation they already agree with & throw out the rest. Which…leads to an erroneous conclusion.
It should be, that there are women who respond to any domestic violence too, that they all have intensive nervous system, attachment theory, training, and learn to call out their own biases, cognitive distortions, and narratives.
Having authority figures who think they have nothing to learn…are dangerous.

Bwahahaha, YEP!...
True! Religious people are often the worst.
The families of the murderers are so delusional! Especially that dad. My blood was boiling watching him act like he won the lottery when his son was initially released. And calling him “a hero that SAVES lives in war”??! Does this pathetic excuse for a man not even know what happens in a war?! Just cause he helped an injured comrade doesn’t mean he wasn’t killing other people left and right during his time served (opposition army or not it’s still people being murdered in a war). He’s delusional beyond hope. Pretty much explains the failure his son was. Thankfully the epilogue delivered us all the much wanted justice hearing that the murderers were given life without parole. It’s a shame they even got 12 years of freedom when they belonged in jail all along. The only member of their family I feel sorry for is the little baby who is so unfortunate to be born to a murderer family.
First of all, his father believes his son is a good man because his son has not acted otherwise around him. Second it was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Third they should have spent more time defining the new evidence they supposedly had.
I'm so glad that there was finally justice and that they didn't get away with it. He says i just want to be with my baby girl, well he took someone's baby girl, in a horrible way.
There was no justice here. They are innocent men in prison.
Yes, eva, now he's without his baby girl. Not quite instant karma but we'll trust that Lady Justice did what she does best.
If Robert was so gentle and sweet then why did they have to remove him from the Denny's for harassing his ex-girlfriend?
There's no evidence that even happened. I'm not saying they didn't do it.
No - the defense attorney said they "didn't find a corroborating witness". It was a few years after the event and I'm sure most people who work at Denny's see things like that all the time, so no one working then would have a distinct memory of it. Nothing says it never happened.
(Edited for a missing quotation mark.)

Asking for Javier to have immunity is SUSPECT AF!!!!
I did some rabbit hole research into this episode. I agree that it was a horrific crime. However, the list of "evidence" that the prosecutors presented was weak. There was one shoe print that matched "the KIND OF SHOE" they HEARD one of the guys owned. There was NO cell phone data that put them at the scene. A witness, said he overheard a 'suspicious' comment. Another witness, who seemed to know certain details, was not pursued further. Why? His father was an investigator for the DA's office and his mother was a former assemblywoman who once ran for the senate. Is there more? Most likely. But based on what I read, it did NOT sound like irrefutable evidence. Sorry, but I found reasonable doubt.
Hey now, enough with your logic. Don't you know the other commenters here watch a lot of true crime videos, so that means they know everything the TV told them was true???

Why would Javier ask for IMMUNITY ??????????? This is a question that MUST be answered.
Any lawyer who represents him should do their job and protect him before he testifies or gives a statement to law enforcement or the court. He admitted that he was originally planning to go hiking with the group, and he was on his way up there, in close proximity near the time of the murders. So, it's only natural to make sure he's protected and, as his attorney, make sure no one tries to tie him in as a potential third accomplice. He was clearly a witness, tried to be forthright and honest at the outset, and needed to make sure he wasn't going to get tied in with the killers. Clearly, the victim changed her mind and told him not to come hiking, most likely because someone convinced her that he wasn't welcome. He was only going to foil their plans.
My final observation is that this was indeed psychopathy, not sociopathy. The planning was crucial to distinguish, Sociopaths are poor planners. She was even posed in front of the house.
Yes, these episodes only present a small subset of information and the purpose is mainly to entertain and so one should be asking these questions. What about the conflict of interests with Javier too!

It’s kind of annoying when they say that stuff because I think these horrible things can happen anywhere and to anyone. It’s sad but I believe it to be true.
All it takes for a crime to occur, is the present of 2 or more people. Example the story of Cain and Abel.
PROBLEM IS, THE FAMILY FAILED TO SAFEGUARD THEIR HOME, CCTV CAMERAS/ METAL GATES, FENCING, HEAVY FIREARMS, ETC ETC, RURAL SETTING IS SAFER THAN THE CITY , FACTS
@@Poppyseed0990 When you know the person, location doesn't matter at all. You already know them, it's not some stranger. This wasn't some home invasion.
Having worked in law for a long time, I have never seen such a weak case and I am shocked that the jury found them guilty.
Modern juries are terrifying. I think it's a symptom of the increased trust in authority/desire for authoritarianism ("well, if you, the highest attorney in the state, say he did it, then he probably did it").
You weren’t there in the court room and the jury deliberated for 10 days - they hardly made a snap decision.
@@firenze5555 The idea it might've taken 10 days to wear down one or more "holdouts" who wanted to get back to their families/lives doesn't exactly fill me with comfort, either.
@@joez.2794Or they wanted to make sure that they meticulously went through all the evidence before they found the two killers guilty.

He makes her pay for his bad behavior, he’s a creep and he makes her pay. A person who’s ‘moved on’ doesn’t call the ex girlfriend 50 times in one night. Witnesses in court have to swear to tell the truth or risk perjury, but lawyers and prosecutors get to lie their as- off and twist the truth - something not right about that.
Exactly 🤷♀️🙏🏻🕊
So do the cops during an interrogation, you perjure yourself and it will be used against you in a court of law.
Thats how the system works...
Everywhere, where they have a western based system. You'd think people would know something about it by now... but obviously few do.
The moved on, was 7 years later, so not relevant to the case really.
Like the way OJ moved on after his divorce from Nicole Brown Simpson? He was dating other women too.
Narcissistic personality disorder is revenge oriented because a narc cannot take rejection & always needs to control his toys
Exactly. And he thinks he owns his ex girlfriend, even if he moves on with another relationship. They view their ex, as their property. (Greetings from Greece).
💯
Coercive control and stalking. Controllers cannot let the controlled person move on without them.

Just want you guys to know that 48 hours is what I watch every time I'm eating my meals. So I'm always happy for a new episode, best regards
There really isn't enough information about the evidence in the case, but the defense lawyer is perfectly right; the case never rose to "beyond a reasonable doubt."
Glad to see someone here understands the actual evidence was weak.
@@LisaLazuliAstrology I was a judge for 18 years.
@@judgedayan9934 OK, that's interesting.
Who cares if he was in the military, that means nothing when his threats of death came true
Exactly.
You are so right. Many join the military to try and escape charges.
He was in the military AFTER this event.
They were both 18. Hadnt been in the military yet.
Oh yes it means something, or what do you think military stands for? Since when is the US Army a defense force?
Non-violent people don't do well in the military...and he apparently did incredibly well.
Serving for the military doesn’t excuse him for what he did. Absolutely despicable!
In fact it's just the other way around
He Brought tremendous amount of embarrassment to the military.
I agree. Neither does it make you heroic. Media pushes war.
Why would anyone want to live there? It's horrible.
Please tell me they found some real evidence before the second trial?!!? Otherwise, the jury should be ashamed of themselves. There's no way I could say they were guilty beyond a reasonable doubt based on everything I just heard.
Someone should remind those folks that Ted Bundy also saved a little boy from drowning, But also tortured & killed nearly a hundred girls including children.
Oh, and i unfortunately know people who seem to be oh-so-perfect, spiritual, love animals, helpful, polite etc etc.. while they also beat up gf for 5 hours straight.
Should we continue with the examples..??
100% 🎯😖
Don’t forget Bundy, Gacy, the BTK, and so forth!! People are evil only God can save our souls when we surrender to him!
Ted Bundy also worked on suicide prevention phone lines. Talkin people out of committing suicide... So yeah showing kindness/going to church/helping people doesnt mean you cant also be an evil killer.
Killers can be nice guys for 95+% of their lives.. They dont act like cold hearted ruthless murderers until it suits them.
...you need to report it to the police - and move away from monsters like that.
Yep. I stated that earlier too. And Ted was a good looking guy. ANYONE can snap.
This happened in my town.
Everyone here still believes it was the boyfriend. They had a really unhealthy and obsessive relationship.
The one who was found guilty or her boyfriend at the time?
@@jmac430"the boyfriend" meaning the ex who is now in prison for life
people in love are always obsessed.
I understand why they think it's the ex-boyfriend and I'm not saying it's not but what about that Javier guy? He seems suspicious. What about his father working for the police department and the ability to cover it up?. They pointed the finger right at the ex-boyfriend. There was no real evidence that the the Ex-Boyfriend and the friend went to go hiking with her
@@meldog7925 Thats what ive been saying too. There hardly is any evidence.
2 ppl testifying that they were there, but the pings from the 2 are at opposite sides of the city. And there is nothing puting them there.
And a business card with dna on it. That doesnt do much here. Its something, but by far not enough.
This case will be tossed at some point. Unless there is evidence that wasnt mentioned.
They probably did it, but with the statute of reasonable doubt, i wouldnt be able to convict.
And they sure should look at the Javier fella
I knew the way Christian was hugging his daughter, he was thinking: I hope no one harms her the way I harmed Becky and did you see how he did not even acknowledge Robert? Watch it again.
Yeah I watched it again. He was hugging her cause she was feeling cold….i don’t know why they didn’t wrap her in warm clothes, babies need to be kept warm
I thought the same thing!
I do think it is very suspicious that the friend was pinged near the house as well, was granted immunity and didn’t testify in front of the grand jury because dude was “a good lawyer”
Yes, I have my doubts on him
It's always crazy how delusional families can be when it comes to their loved ones. No matter what the evidence, they refuse to believe it.
I was thinking this too the whole time I was hearing the families speak so highly of them. Parents have no idea what happens outside home. These 2 monsters for sure did the crime and must do the time.
Baffles me too, especially parents. Maybe they think that it makes them look as horrible people to have "raised" such a monster.
Parents should always say what are my kids doing instead of my kid wouldn't do that
I agree, there is no evidence against those 2 guys. That family is delusional
Rest in peace to the victims. Very sad case.

Christian might have saved his mate but he was killing other people at the same time. I don’t understand why people think military aren’t capable of killing others 🤔
Yep. They are literally trained killers. I'm not knocking the military, because that's their job. But to say someone couldn't be a murderer because they served is an absolutely ridiculous argument.
It's actually shocking if you watch/listen to enough true crime content, just how many murderers/serial killers have prior or current military experience. I keep wondering if anyone has compiled the data on that.
@angel2000317 They have. We're just not going to shown the statistics/data on it

The fact that they both had the opportunity to move on with their lives and even get married is so sad
The defense attorneys always sound like liars.

Unless there was some huge piece of evidence we weren't told about in this story, this is a huge miscarriage of justice. The witness who seemed much more like a likely suspect and was given immunity way too fast can not be ignored. I hope these men have contact with the lawyers who look to over-turn wrongful convictions.
I'm sure they do.
I completely agree! I'm over here wondering where the "beyond a reasonable doubt" was in this story, because I didn't see it. Too many other possibilities out there. The"friend" Javier the immunity issue. The ex-husband police officer, really no contention with the divorce/her moving on? I have other thoughts but maybe I'm in the minority thinking everyone painting the victims as perfect wonderful people make me even more suspicious that we're not being told something.

Their sons live while the poor girl and her family was destroyed. Sooner or later they will pay. And he has a daughter god forbids a man does anything to his child. Seems like the evidence was messed with. 12 years seems so fishy to keep it from solving it.
@28:30 this happened in the year 2007. It’s not unusual at all for teenagers not to use their phone for a couple hours in 2007. There’s no Netflix or streaming on your phone or anything like that. I don’t even think we were texting back… Maybe T9?
That's a really good point. We were texting in 2007 (1st iPhone came out in 2006 I think), but not commonly. Most people still had to text using the keypad which was a PITA plus a 40-character text was like $.10/ea.. I mean, if they can show the last time they went two hours without using their phone was over a year ago, then yeah that's something. But it sounds like this "evidence" shouldn't have been let in.
that poor girl lost whole family :( cannot imagine...
Those 2 sisters.
They still have their father! ❤
In fairness it sounded like a really messed up home life. The dad built that home from scratch. The home that her mother took from him in the divorce to live with her boyfriend. Well I don’t think we know a. Why he went out of town b. How many guns he even had . If it was like 2 I could see him just bringing them along but a few more than that I totally agree with you
Yeah-let's ask his family's opinion of him, not bias AT ALL, because no killer's family EVER had cognitive dissonance and defended their murderous relative before (note: sarcasm it's super common-i.e. Chris Watt's mother, Casey Anthony's mother, on and on ad infinitum).
Those guys are So guilty
Those poor people 😢 🙏🏼 RIP ❤️ ❤❤
Being part of a church means nothing, having awards means nothing, motive means nothing. A killer is a killer and these two killed and thought were going to get away with this. End off. The father of one of the accused played up to the cameras and lied about the whereabouts of those guns, he had them, mmm I think not. However, another case of injustice for the poor family left behind watching how corrupt the system works in favor of those connected to the military and police .

Such a scary thing that so many families do!
Yeahhh, the mafia, cults, are about “loyalty”. Their definition often means to go along with very rigid rules, narratives, and they can’t see, understand, anything outside of that. They are easily threatened by the complexity of life…so their “anchors” are all trying to mitigate that
