Her crying looks fake. If you watch the guys on the Behavior Panel, they talk about the grief muscle between humans' eyes that contracts when people really cry. Hers doesn't. She otherwise has a flat affect when she's not fake-crying. She's probably a psychopath.
I noticed how not one tear fell from her eyes. That's when you know someone is lying. If you can't cry, you can't cry. But it looks suspish when you try to put on a show.

31:46 They say you can strangle someone without leaving marks if the person is already unconscious. However, according to Jade's texts, he was already waking up, so there's no way, then, she could have strangled him (without leaving marks anyway). I think she suffocated him with the bag but told her friend she strangled him because she didn't know the difference between the two.

She had had access to his apartment and to his computer password for years. She might as well have been the one to put the photos in his computer and later set one up as screensaver. I think she is the one who planted the photos there and I'm very surprised nobody else seems to have thought of it.

Very strange that the stepdad has these photos he’s not supposed to have as a screen saver on his desktop when Jade is over all the time fixing his dinner for him and taking care of him. Also strange that these photos weren’t recovered for evidence. For all of those saying she should have reported him to police, simply having pictures of a woman over the age of 18 is not a crime. She could have distanced herself, cut contact, possibly gotten a restraining order. But I think there was more to their relationship than she wanted to admit to. I am sure if there was more of an investigation they would have found a motive for murdering Jade’s stepdad than some photos on a computer.
The pictures started at age 16 while she was still a minor so he could have been charged with child pics. During the trial, prosecutors alleged that Janks planned Merriman's killing after she found hundreds of nude photos of her on his computer, the station reported. Some of the images showed Janks when she was just 16 years old, her attorney alleged.
@ jordantrnchard2739... Having nude pictures of someone without their consent is a crime especially your step daughter...now imagine your neighbor have dirty pictures of you without your consent...but it doesn't justified her killing him...there's other solutions to handling this matter...too bad she took the wrong path...
Well if he was to say hypothetically had cameras placed in the bathroom and in the room taking photos and video of her without her knowledge or consent then that would be illegal. But also if she was under aged in most pics then thats also possession of cp aswell . But this whole case is fishy let me finish watching 😭.
Yeah, I picked up on that, too. I was like why did you choose THAT word! Her guilty conscience was talking. He was wrong for being a perv and she was wrong for handling it the way she did. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I thought the same thing about 911. I wonder if he had a life insurance policy and who was the beneficiary? It seems it would be her if he had no one else and she was taking care of him. They never mentioned a monetary motive.
It's a bold move to have the nude photo of your step daughter as a screen saver when she lives next door, is in daily contact with you, visits your house daily to fix you dinner and even comes over to your house to clean it.
I doubt it ever happened. For all we know if there was any such nude photos of her maybe her Stepdad bought them from her 'Only Fans' website online? Maybe her Stepdad didn't approve of her slutty behavior and called her out, and she got mad? I think the nude photos were simply a 'Red Herring' because no one ever saw them. I doubt they ever existed. Also why did the prosecutors keep referring to his Computer Laptop, when all the photos showed a Desktop Computer? To me that's all a side show.
It’s almost if it makes no sense at all… lol also she destroyed the hard drive and there was only one photo actually found. Also there is no way she could have put the photo on his pc…
I would've driven him directly to the hospital! I wouldn't have picked him up from the rehabilitation place anyways. His business partner would've done it. She she should've never left him in that car. She could've saved herself by staying out of his life or taking him to the hospital directly when he started looking sick.
If these nude images of her did exist in his hard drive, she should have called the cops, have him arrested, and filed charges against him. NOT HAVE HIM KILLED.
Not condoning what she did to Tom but those photos, her not knowing how he came to obtain them, surely would have instilled both fear and anger in her and most any woman. Slightly similar situation when I was 19 years old, two neighbor men whom had watched me grow up since age 7 . After the shock and fear wore off, anger took over. Walk a mile in her shoes.
They would say, shes an adult. She doesn't have to be in his house. She could have deleted all the pics and just never had anything to do with him@mack2233
I don't believe for a second she asked 3 men to just help her get him into the house and they refused. She asked for help with a dead body thats why they left. This was premeditation.
But if he was alive, he would be able to prove he didn’t have any pictures of her. She needed him dead in order for her story to be more “believable.” Why are you so naive?
He wouldn’t have gone to jail. She wasn’t a minor when those photos were taken (that we know of) so what crime is there? Maybe a civil trial, but idk about criminal :/
Why would he go to jail? I don't think law can do anything for keeping her nudes. This is 21st century, never ever take nudes, not even with your long time partners. They can end up with anyone. If nothing, your kids will watch it after you die and it will be so embarrassing for them lol
Exactly... if you could leave someone you supposedly cared for under trash in the driveway then surely you wouldn't be above planting pictures on someone's computer@@LeeoGoneWild
His condition sounded like he wasn’t going to live that long anyway. She just wasted her life for a very poor decision. Nothing is worth going to jail for 25 years.
I think it's pretty straightforward that regardless of the photos, it doesn't justify killing a man especially with premeditation. Report a creep or even go to the media or what not. Her hands were not tied. He was in fact so unwell still. And I am curious, if the photos were truly the centre of her story, why not make them part of evidence?
Firstly, what happened to her mom? Her mom was never mentioned. I mean, even her biological father made an appearance. Secondly, Jade shouldn't have even picked him up from the rehabilitation place. His best friend would've done it. It was stupid to drive to a hospital to pick up a wheelchair and not leave him at the damn hospital. But the dumbest thing by far, was leaving him at the edge of the driveway. That was beyond stupid!
I found it very frustrating and distracting that 48 Hours failed to mention where the mom was. And I also thought that she drove him back to the hospital so that the doctors could run out and find him dead in the car. This would've been a believable death due to illness/overmedication scenario. But no, she steals a wheelchair and takes off. Guilty AND stupid.
This is whole thing is so implausable that she should have just raised her hand and said "Yep I'm guilty" and saved everyone the trouble of a trial. Just be accountable. I kept shaking my head through the whole episode. How did she every think she would be found not guilty?
You believe the naked photos claim? I'm not saying it's impossible, but I have an issue with the discovery. If this guy was a creeper, would he have a naked woman as his screen saver? I mean I'm a pretty carefree man, not embarrassed by sexuality, but I wouldn't have a naked woman on my screen saver for all to see. It's just too intimate and uncomfortable not so much for me, but for others. I would fee awkward about it. So this man is undercover peeping, why on earth would he have her nude, plastered on his screensaver, on a *computer she had access to* ? I just can't make sense of it.
They said she made him dinner and took care of him daily. It doesn't make sense that he would Secretly have hundreds of her photos and use them as wallpaper on his computer. They said the photos were taken by her and previous boyfriends. Plural boyfriends. So she wasn.t exactly shy or worried about her modesty. She GAVE him the pictures. I bet there was a different motive and she couldn't come up with anything better for an excuse. Her reaction showed that she thought she would get off easy.
The computer screen was black and when she bumped the table or computer the photo probably came up. I think he may have had hidden cameras and was taking pictures of her without her knowledge. He took pictures of her while in the shower, bedroom, undressing, etc. Also, I think he may have stolen nude pictures of her off of her cell phone and/or computer.
What kind of woman would pose for HUNDREDS of nude photos? And collected over the years from NUMEROUS partners. I now feel quite sad for her and whatever piece was missing from her life.
It was mentioned that she had his password too, so clearly she had access to his computer. Why would he have a nude photo of her, as a screen saver no less.
She uploaded them probably. And set him up. Then murdered him with this stupid excuse. If she was really a victim he would be in jail/in trouble, not her.
From the first interrogation with her you could see she was lying, or nervous. It's just not how you'd react if you had just seen him the day before and they're saying "he's been missing". You'd be like "no he's not, I was just with him, he's at the house" or something. She knows exactly what she did and unfortunately she has to pay for it. It's crazy how fast you can potentially get out after clearly murdering another human.
She had the password to his computer but only come to realize that he had hundreds of nude photos of her after she bumped into the computer and seen one as a screen saver. 🙄 The fact that she thought that even sounded somewhat believable is hilarious 😂 Even if he really did have those photos, as her stepdad you think he’d be bold enough to set one as a damn screen saver.
Doesn't add up. I say guilty. She's lying . And leaving the body in driveway ? And, I believe the one friend who called the cops alerting to them, is telling the truth. Her DNA is on his pills . GUILTY!!
@@rosarojafaceStop, just stop. You don’t call people for help and try to hide a body if you’re not guilty. She’s so clearly guilty that I’m actually amazed that you could possibly think otherwise. Usually I can understand when people see both sides but this is clear and obvious

When she texted “lose my number”, she’s telling him to forget about her and she’s done with him because she knows he snitched on her - not to delete her number and evidence lol
that guy wasn't returning any of her texts or calls - so why tell him to lose her number? lol.....when someone ghosts you - you don't need to tell them to lose your number.

I've watched another video about this same case on the channel Rotten Mango, it's much more detailed there with proper backstories (MUST SEE THAT). It was told that her mother had severe drinking problems, was very negligent of her kids, she married twice or thrice (including Tom) but she was always out drinking, was hardly present at home and had violent tendencies as well and there was a point she started coming home back with strange men infront of her kids. And if I remember correctly, Tom had a kid younger than Jade and Jade took care of him as well, both Tom and her did. Tom divorced Jade's mom and even after that they stayed in touch more than the mother.
I think that part of the story should have helped mitigating factors on the case. She may have been molested in her life, not necessary by Tom but finding out about this betrayal may have hit different for her because of this...lots of issues come up when the same sex parent is not 'present', or is neglectful etc.

Unbelievable that the defence can try this explanation. How did his body get down the driveway? So he staggered down there and covered himself in trash ? She killed him. No doubt.
I don't think that's what the defense was arguing. They argued he died in her car of a self-induced overdose and she panicked and tried to dispose of the body, which is how he supposedly ended up in the driveway.

No, not really. In some states, depends if they expected privacy. On a nude beach for instance, nope. Sexting, sharing, has more strict laws. This case, in Calif, does not seem illegal. There’s something seriously suspect about these photos. Why in hell would he have them as a screen saver/slideshow, (that can be revealed with a knock of the mouse) when she’s in his house regularly.
@@AP12360 They said they were pictures she had taken herself when she was with ex boyfriends.
@SelinaBeana My thoughts exactly! Also what happened to the alleged photos on the screensaver 🤔
@@AP12360that's exactly what op was referring to. Why use that photo as a screensaver when a little bump would easily have turned the screen on? And where were the hidden cameras? Were they ever retrieved?
Unlikely that the old guy could/would steal/hack into getting those photos. That computer was probably suspects old computer. She never removed the "sync" option on her photo app which enabled auto sending cellphone photos to old computer. Sad consequences.
Wow!! I totally thought the mom had died. Thanks very much for the additional context.
"strange men infront of her kids" - Apparently this is very common with a lot of single mothers.
@@rrboss3721 not single, while she was married
It's very suspect to me that they ignored this part of the story and didn't even mention the mom outside of the basic genetic story.
I think that part of the story should have helped mitigating factors on the case. She may have been molested in her life, not necessary by Tom but finding out about this betrayal may have hit different for her because of this...lots of issues come up when the same sex parent is not 'present', or is neglectful etc.
Her looking shocked when they said guilty..... ma'am, you knew good and well...
I feel like if she had owned up and said ‘yes, I did it’ but showed remorse etc.. she would’ve gained more empathy and understanding from the jurors but she is a liar and got what she deserved 🤷♀️
And she told on herself to her ex. And left Tom's body on the driveway. Huh?
Yea. This was done so stupidly.
@@westcoastorbust2462 It's because its something that wasn't pondered on for a long time. She acted quickly out of emotion and anger. It shows that she's not a criminal. If she gets a retrial and pleads guilty, she'll be home in 5 years.
Yep
yea, I wonder if she would've gotten a lighter sentence if she confessed, since technically the sleeping pill killed him. maybe man 1
It's really nice to see the actual people in the story
Unbelievable that the defence can try this explanation. How did his body get down the driveway? So he staggered down there and covered himself in trash ? She killed him. No doubt.
I don't think that's what the defense was arguing. They argued he died in her car of a self-induced overdose and she panicked and tried to dispose of the body, which is how he supposedly ended up in the driveway.
Well, their other option was a "crime of passion" defense upon discovering the photos, meaning the photos needs to be entered into evidence,, which is ofc a problem.
She said she couldn’t get him into the house. I can easily believe that.
Every fool talking about her pictures is the exact reason she planted the screensaver,. sympathy. she made the story up, pretty clear she destroyed the harddrive.
What do you think her motive was?
I don't believe a word of her story. She planted those photos on his computer herself.
One million percent. Such a liar
they only found 1 stupid screensaver. not 1 of the 100s of pictures were every found, just a screensaver. if thats even true shes the one putting it there
Yeah cause you just know everything.
The photos were never recovered, so how can you say this?
@@latengocomoburro Ummmmmm.....logic and critical thinking? Deductive reasoning? It appears these concepts are foreign to you - but they are a real thing.
Jade Janks is a cold blooded killer and liar, I'm convinced. She thought that she could cover it up but things did not go her way.She actually incriminated herself with the text messages
But one damn hot killer, ngl.
She planted the photos killed him for his home and money.
They never addressed whether or not his computer ever really had the pictures. And that he uploaded them
His laptop did have the pictures… they addressed it at the end they just couldn’t find the hard drive with all of the hundreds of pics but that found the screensaver that was saved back in 2019 so they believe jade
@@makaylawaters2568 That could be explained away...she could have used that laptop and left it there.
What if she knew the password, and added her own pictures as screensaver? Some justification she sought for her actions
I think it actually at one point (early) it did say she knew his password
I wonder if she stood to inherit something if he passed
Could it be he'd been harassing her for a long time. Could it be the pics were of them together? This rage, this vengeance, has more to it than meets the eye.
I think that anytime you let someone take pictures of you like that you need to assume they will be seen by everyone.
Oh gosh… what backwards person
Really? Why? If you share pictures with a boyfriend or girlfriend you're with, no, you kind of think they are private and sharing those pictures without consent is now a crime in my country.
@@hawple yes, common sense is perceived as being backwards these days. I would have to REALLY trust someone b/4 I assumed that they wouldn't share private moments in photos. To me this is common sense. When trust is betrayed by someone one that you don't REALLY know then don't play the victim card when that perceived trust is betrayed. Common sense is not very common anymore.
@@thewillowtree1127 they think a law is a magic pill that let's then act without common sense.
That may be your personal life philosophy but that’s not the law.
But if it was an accident why wrap him and put under a pile of garbage? Call an ambulance..it is easier. And more...he was so in bad shape so why being so afraid?
She had her stepfather pc password too and probably she have used it before. Could be to download something. It is possible that she had downloaded her pics too. You can have some sharing tools on.. he had not a camera in her house..she said an unbelievable story. She is a killer
Coz she’s lying
His hard drive was never investigated? What sort of defence did she hire? What happened to these photos? Nobody else bothered to look for them? Are they still out there somewhere? Were they destroyed? Did anyone ever look for them? These are key questions left unanswered.
This girl is guilty as all hell.
And I bet she put those pictures on his computer.
why
Yes I think the same and I think it's sad that they are all going along with the story that he had those pictures, it's unfair
What an idiotic and mean-spirited accusation.
@christyaustin4833 it's actually the truth
If she planted the pictures herself, what's her motive for killing him? Makes no sense.
A tomboy and a girly girl all in the same day, you mean she can change clothes in one day?! Wow
She acted like a "tomboy" or a "girly girl" in one day.
She acted.😢
And apparently shower to remove dirt after working
It could have been worse. At least she didn't light up every room she entered 😂
Watching her talking on the stand I can tell she’s lying about the whole photo thing. Straight up performance 🎭
Those two prosecutors did their job extremely well!!!
I’ve binged on every 48hr episode on this channel now I have to wait for new ones to drop 😭
Me too 😮
She could also have uploaded the photos on his computer herself, which is probably why she never got the police involved from the beginning? Who knows...
There are no photos. Convenient only her word, she destroyed the hard drive. Based on her truth to excuse her killing a man, based on only she having seen said photos. Nothing to do with inheritance wanting.
Came here to say this
Yeah sure.
Why didn't she just drive him to the nearest hospital after taking him back to the rehab center? Why make a bed in the backseat of the car? If she couldn't get him out if the car, she should have called 911.
🤔
Nothing more annoying than watching someone act like they're crying when they are clearly not.
First thought was : what a horrible thing he did , but she should have simply pressed charges and put him in jail but then I thought... she wasn't underage so... was there any law he could even be charged with ? The idea that having naked pics of the person you raised would not be against the law , is disgusting.
It's very much a crime to secretly take nude pictures of someone.
Hi Dear🌹🌹
How are you doing?
It depends on how he get them. If he took them from her computer without her knowledge, then it is against the law
it would depend on how he got them. If he was taking them secretly or he sole them from her computer then yes it would be a criminal act. She could allege sexual harassment after discovering them.
No, not really. In some states, depends if they expected privacy. On a nude beach for instance, nope. Sexting, sharing, has more strict laws. This case, in Calif, does not seem illegal. Without evidence of the photos, case was even weaker. It is odd only one photo was found, yet she claimed to delete the rest. @@erican3244
Something doesn't add up here. She says the photos were ones she took with exes. But how did Tom get them? Perhaps they were posted online? Or perhaps Jade did some webcam stuff or something? Did Jade actually send them to him? Anyone know if these sorts of issues were investigated? As there's no obvious explanation of how Tom got the photos.
Also, any financial gain for Jade from Tom's death?
@@neoepicurean3772 probably she stumbled upon her step fathers insurance policy when she was there " cleaning". Who knows!
@@wengd.6738 For all we know Jade could have been involved sexually with Tom, hence the fact that he had the photos. Sounds horrible to suggest such things, but there were many unanswered questions in this coverage.
I believe they were pill poppers together and she gave in to his advances and send him the photos. Otherwise why get rid of the hard drive which would be your proof if you were caught for killing him.
@@neoepicurean3772 probably!. Am bothered why the hard drive was missing?! Smells fishy! If she's truthful, that would have been a counter evidence..
She’s crying sooo hard with NO TEARS
This just started and the 911 operator’s response literally distracted me. Caller calls 911 and states a friend told me “she killed her stepdad.” 911 operator’s response, “Soooo, what are you trying to report?”😵💫!!! Like….🥺….really???? How clear do you have to be when calling an emergency service DURING a traumatic event????😳
You have to understand the way these dispatchers have to relay information to the police and the paramedics. Getting the gist of the story isnt the same thing. The man was relaying something the perpetrator said did, but he had no verification, no definite timeline of events, it was just heresay at that point. Its not the same as emphatically stating: 'I am reporting a homicide, this is when it happened, the deceased is at this address, the perpetrator is also at the address'. They have to get more information.
She uploaded the photos herself. If she was so afraid she would not have brought him home by herself. She doesn't make sense because liars cannot be prepared for every question.
People realize she has NO nude pictures to hand over to the police right? She “lost” them. She is where she belongs. And a man lost his reputation because SHE said it was so.
People also realize that the cops never took the hard drive that would prove the photos.....
A hard drive would still have the data of the photos.
