Because you have to wait until a coroner's report gives an official cause of death. If you fall down a flight of steps and die they will say you fell down a flight of steps and are dead but that isn't the official cause of death until a coroner says it is.
It seems highly likely this is the cause of the death.
It is actually unusual to release this information prior to completing a full coroner's report. They probably did it because he is famous and someone higher up stepped in and told them to give some information to stop speculation. The local government don't want people thinking he might have been killed in their country.

I'm hearing more and more about this and I am questioning Foo Fighters management and insurers at this point. Here we have an aging rocker with a 600 gram heart and he's not been exhibiting cardiac issues lately? I don't buy it. I thought these performers had to pass a physical to go on tour, and if they don't then they surely should. He should have never been on the road in his condition, drug overdose or not.

It's amazing how many people think we need to hear their judgemental opinions on this. Apparently social media has convinced an entire generation that everyone needs to hear what they think of every single thing that happens, even another human being's death that has literally nothing to do with them.
It's one thing to leave a comment in appreciation of a life lost, it is another to leave a comment critical of them at the moment of their death as if you are entitled to judge them for their flaws and the world needs to hear your judgment.

@@notinterested8452 - What is "disrespectful" is passing judgement on a recently dead person.
You are probably unaware but since before Christ was born until very recent times it was considered socially unacceptable and even bad luck to speak ill of the dead.
"Do not speak ill of the dead", it comes from the Latin "De mortuis nil nisi bonum" - of the dead speak nothing but good, dating to 600BC.
As you can see in these comments, young people have no issue giving their critical judgement as if the world needs to hear what they think about a dead person's moral and life choices as soon as they are dead.
This never would have happened before social media and a generation that believe that they have to comment on everything, even something that is clearly not their place, passing judgment on a recently dead person. They see no moral implications in doing something so degenerate. It's frankly grotesque.

He has apparently cardiomegaly. His heart doubled its size from the beginning because of his job as a drummer. The body and most of the vital organs needs oxygen during this strenuous job, so the heart has to pump vigorously to supply that, thus overtime increases its size. A lot of people survives that but with different drugs and substance in our body could put too much strain to our heart to compensate the demand and thus causing the electricity of our heart to fail plus some substance can cause narrowing of our heart arteries resulting to cardiac arrest and could also cause a heart attack. Taylor complained of a chest pain most likely a heart attack which is a lack of oxygen supple to the heart muscle. RIP Taylor

This is heartbreaking... He had been clean for a while but it's a sad fact that its a lifelong struggle and if he was on anti-depressents and it became too much and he did fall off the wagon then the enlarged heart I suppose makes sense because people usually fall off hard and go right back to what they were doing before getting clean (it's what kills most addicts when they go back to them after being clean). It's just so sad and I feel so much for his family and for his bandmates (especially Dave as they were so close and he has already gone through this once but I believe he will be there for Taylors family which is a good thing)

So, let me get this straight. Hawkins dies exactly 1 hour before the band is supposed to start playing? How does that work? He clearly checked into his hotel room. Did he sound check? Was he by himself while on tour with a rock show/ band with many people (crew, tour support staff, band members, family, etc.).? Sounds a little shady to me. They had just done a show the day before. So, he flies into Colombia. Checks in the hotel. He must had been fine earlier in the day because nobody said anything all day long. So, he sound checks in the morning/ early afternoon before doors. Goes back to the hotel, gets jacked up on who knows what, calls 911 for chest pains, dies of heart failure, etc.. and nobody knows until1 hour before they are supposed to play? Then, the band cancels the rest of the tour? What? No other drummer knows how to play Foo Fighter songs? Grohl busted his leg and continued to play and finish a tour. "Taylor would had wanted us to finish the tour. The show must go on!" Where's that? Sorry. I do not buy any of it.
