I remember Taylor in an interview talking about when him, Alanis and her band were touring in a festival circuit in Europe that included the Foo Fighters. Taylor met Dave and they hit it off right away, hung out together every night and basically became best friends. One day Alanis came up to Taylor and asked "when do you think Dave will ask you to join Foo Fighters?" Taylor was like "What! What are you talking about?" When William left the Foos Taylor called Dave and asked to be the drummer. When Dave accepted and asked him to join the band after jamming together Taylor knew he had to go tell Alanis. He was really nervous but he told her. She kissed him on the cheek and told him I told you so. She gave him her blessing and told Taylor that he belongs in that band making that kind of music. Taylor and Alanis remained good friends right up until Taylor's passing.
That’s beautiful
she cried when he told her he was leaving the band though!
He’s so damn authentic… he should have just spoken without reading a script! He was doing an amazing job on his own.
Cue cards are a script 🙄 just a different medium . On tv you look at the camera prompts not down at cue cards. He is a musician not a public speaker he was nervous
Beyond devistated. I'm so lucky I saw him on that tour with Alanis twice. 😭😭😭 RIP Taylor. You'll never be forgotten.
I got to see Alanis during her Jagged Little Pill tour. Great seats too. It was on the 4th of July @ Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI. There were a ton of great fireworks rt on Lake Michigan, a bit after the show. Didn't even remember till now. Ty. Unfortunately, I missed seeing the FF last summer, in the same place, due to lack of funds. It would've been my 1st show w them. I'm heartbroken over Taylor as well. I wish Love, Comfort & Peace to all of those mourning him.
@@chrisg5712 Whatever you are going through, I pray that God almighty will hear your voice and bless you.
Anyone can read a script, takes a real great person to add true feelings.
0:04 “I’m nervous! I don’t normally give speeches! I play drums for a living!” Beautiful tribute to Alanis by Taylor.
The passion and feeling this man displayed EVERY SINGLE TIME he sat behind a kit of drums is incomparable! Taylor will never be forgotten!
I'm crying because of what he's saying and because he's such a gentleman
Taylor was a brilliant drummer and even better person, condolences to his family. RIP.
Jagged Little Pill live DVD still gives me shivers to this day! What a tour, what a live band, what an album!
And its the best album ever atleast for me 😉❤
look man, I'm putting this everywhere because I need you to know the truth!!!! I live near their hotel, and some drug dealer here is getting famous because he sell some basuca/basuco (drug of the homeless here, it is brick powder with cigarette ashes and coca paste (the coca paste is the cocaine before you can sniff it, pure coca paste) and some tobacco or weed) and that gives you a 5 minute trip that you don't wanna forget and he overdosed feeling tht trip. The drug dealer is getting famous because he sell it for like a thousand to Taylor, and the real price is less than a dolar for a single dose. It's believed that the dealer selled him 10 doses of that, and that's too strong so he overdosed, BUT THE MEDIA IS GOING TO LIE AND SAY THAT WAS HEROIN OR SOMETHING TO NOT SAY HE WAS HITTING COLOMBIAN HOMELESS DRUGS. THESE PEOPLE IS GOING TO LIE TO YOU ABOUT HIS DEATH
Loved the fact that Taylor adored Alanis so much, he stumbled through his speech. Special human, talking about another special human. RIP, Taylor
Dude this was the most un-authentic speech I've ever seen. This guy is a dope fiend who died a dope fiend death.
@@FurnaceFuneral84 you are gross for that.
if he love her so much so much respect why he habe to go-- : '(
@@FurnaceFuneral84ur a mug. U think people want to be addicts? U aint got a clue pal
Hurts my heart knowing what a compassionate, talented young man died too soon from something that he wrestled with until the end. Grateful and blessed, for the music he has left behind.. his legacy continues.
We need more men like Taylor! A true ally :) ....yet, it's incredible how he can go out in front of thousands of people and sing Under Pressure and do Freddie Mercury impressions, but gets so nervous giving a speech. You did well, Taylor! :D
What speech were you listening to?
R.I.P. 🙏🙏
Two different things. Hugs, Taylor!
You’re so right, I have played in front of double digit thousands in my life, audiences of 15,000 or more, I can sing and I can play my instruments, but talking I’m a train wreck, musicians like him and like me when we’re on stage we’re kind of in our own world, but when we have to talk we are in the world of the audience and that’s what makes us a nervous wreck I’m the same I get it, but yeah you’re spot on
Its because he used/needed medications/drugs to help him when performing in front of thousands. I listened to an interview that he did with the rolling stones during the pandemic and he said he was happy to not be playing live and getting that "paralyzing" feeling of nervous before playing every concert. He said that the feeling almost paralyzed him to where he couldn't move his legs/arms before playing. I think Dave Grohl really pushed him to keep playing and playing when maybe he didn't want to? Maybe I'm just speculating but from what I've seen, he needed those meds to stablize him in order to perform. So sad... Gone too soon and such a loving/humble person.
You may not know that but your speech was an inspiration to most of us who struggle with public speakers to persist even if feel overwhelm and it was so genuine and gracious.
This is the best kind of speech. You're speaking from the heart. RIP what a great dude. Wow. Alanis: Always thought you kicked ass!
0:22 Vulnerability, isn't it beautiful? Why hide it. Perhaps the most important lesson one can learn from Alanis Morissette interviews cause that's poetry, just listening to her speak. But Taylor is underestimating himself, he too is an icon. For me Taylor has always represented life, instinct. Not only because the drummer of a band is supposed to give energy, but energy is movement, and movement is life. And there is nothing more primal than the act of drumming.
Rest in peace Taylor Hawkins. You were a legendary drummer, singer and bandmate, a great friend, a husband and father and just an awesome person. You will sorely be missed. Life is precious. Do not take it for granted.
You'll be so missed. Thank you Taylor.
Great speech for Alanis Morrisett he looked really nice while during this speech.
Bless his heart. Doing something that wasn't his gift. We loved him anyway and will miss his sweet soul! ✨💖🌠
Taylor wasn’t some kind of orator. He played drums for a living. I’m just so shattered by his absence. I have tickets to the Denver show at Coors Field. I went to Foos shows to watch him play because I’m a drummer too. It would have been amazing. I’m not gonna bother with the refund either. Fuck it. It’s my small tribute to a band who brought me so much joy.
I think some asshat promoter or insurance company will be keeping your tribute, pretty sure it won’t be going to the foos. If I were you I’d get the refund, buy a bunch of 5As or some other basic drum item and donate it to a local school. Keep the kids rocking.
RIP Taylor. The universe will miss you forever and ever. And ever. 😢
Says a lot about Taylor how he stumbled thru the written speech, but had no problem speaking from the heart. Such a genuine, humble and very talented rock star. So sorry he is gone.
Very well said.
Na he he was a little messed up
I've made 2 speeches in my lifetime. Both I didn't write ahead of time and just spoke from the heart. Killer speeches that had the whole place standing and clapping in the end. Speaking from the heart will always come out better than a pre-written speech... Well.. Most times. lol
Yes I noticed that too. Heard somebody describe him as 'sunshine on skinny legs', thought that was perfect.
@@gaynorprice-jones1826 what a lovely description of him.
Rest in Peace Taylor. Thank you Alanis for your music and total package as a musician. You are amazing and continue to be. Thank you for giving one of the greatest drummers to walk the planet his break and we thank you and love you for it.
Taylor 💙 it’s cute how he’s nervous
Taylor is so authentic, totally sweet!
Look how real he is. He was the definition of a ROCK STAR.
This video just makes me love Taylor all the more. His speech is so cool and from the heart. You can tell Taylor loved Alanis!
REST IN PEACE TAYLER YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTON FROM PEOPLE WHO LOVED YOU .GODBLESS YOU AMEN🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🌹
So bloody heartbreaking that he is no longer with us, you can tell by this speech his anxiety got the best of him. I read he got nervous and suffered from anxiety everytime he got on stage and yet he never showed it - bless you Taylor you are so missed in this world x
Why did it end before it was over? I wanted to see him actually present the award to her. Maybe see a hug. My heart is crushed for everyone who loved Taylor, especially his wife & kids. Millions of broken hearts all over the world but not as broken as theirs. Unimaginable pain. I hope they can find comfort in the memories of the love they shared with him & that it brings peace to their broken hearts. This is just so sad 😔💔
I’ve been searching for a clip of when she actually comes onstage and they hug. I can’t find it anywhere. Argh!
Taylor is the drums's icon 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thank goodness for Alanis, and thank goodness that she gave Taylor that break! ❤️
i love this man and i love her
Saw Alanis twice after Jagged Little Pill came out and didn't know I was watching Taylor Hawkins on drums. Wish I'd also seen him in Foo Fighters. I'm feeling so for his loved ones and those that were close to him.
Lucky to have seen Taylor play for Alanis in that tour in November 1996. RIP Taylor ❤
What a kind wonderful man. I'm sorry to his family and his friends. Taylor was amazing. Rest in Peace.
I miss Taylor so much... 💔💔💔
In total shock.
Sending much love and prayers to Taylor’s family, friends and bandmates
Tragic and devastating
This is on the David Bowie passing kind of level... this hurts.
Rest in peace Taylor.🙏 You're the reason I'm the drummer I am today and I thank you for the inspiration you brought upon me foreverlong 🤘🤘
Love his appreciation for Alanis.
From his heart was beautiful. ❤
Fly high taylor, thank you for everything 🕊️🤍
What a compliment to Alannis, that Taylor fronted up for this presentation.
Obviously something that he is totally uncomfortable doing.
But his respect dominated his fear.
The best speeches are from the heart on a wing and a prayer.
I took my wife to see her last year. Totally packed show. The positive energy and everyone singing along felt like a therapy session with alcohol. It was amazing.
Awww, he was so nervous. 💙💙
It amazes me how many people just assume he's "nervous". This is the same guy in a band that's sold millions of albums and been on a million tours, done tons of cocky interviews, won awards, etc. He has a well documented history of drug issues. He's high. Plain and simple lol. Don't be so naive
@@memye288 Why do you have to be so douchey?
@@memye288 He said he was nervous. Lol
Oh, Taylor, i missed you so much. Your blonde Hair and your wonderful smile is legendary. Your so an angel. Rock in heaven. I'm so sad. 😢😢😢💔
Amazing guy...we are going to miss him...
i really cant watch him without getting emotional
He is so genuine!
She was THE female musician of the 90s. Won an Icon Award. Really a trailblazer ushering in a new kind of powerful woman artist. And yes, she writes her own music.
Keep seeing my favourite drummer, and one of the nicest people in Rock.
The Foos are/were my favourite band.
Can they even continue without such an integral part of the FF?
If you know anything about their methods, you'll know Grohl and Hawkins were basically the sane person.
And after Kurt, I'm not sure what this will do to Dave.
Such a tragic loss for Grohl, the FFs, the world of Rock.
All their fans.
Rest in beats Taylor Hawkins. Forever in my heart. 🙏❤🙏❤🥁
If you close your eyes while listening to either Dave Grohl or Taylor Hawkins speak, you'll see how they morphed into the same creature over the years and sound exactly alike nowadays.
he sounds NOTHING like dave ... you should get your ears checked
nope not the same whatsoever
I've noticed that, too.
His cadence is like Grohl. I guess it happens to guys who suck each other off after band practice.
👏🏾
Bless his heart. True blue gentlemen. REST WELL
R.I.P Taylor! A true gentle spark
RIP TAYLOR HAWKINS 🙏 You will be sadly missed. Condolences to his family.
What a stunning man, so so saddening.
alanis morisette is so underrated
So sad that just three years later, he would be gone, and Alanis would be performing at Taylor's tribute concert with the Foo Fighters.
Humble hardworking drummer who respects women of rock and their contributions. Yes more lady rock air play please!
I can’t believe I’m here looking up Taylor Hawkins videos because he’s dead. What the hell? Someone wake me up.
Nervous as a kitten our wonderful Taylor, one of the million reasons we miss you so xxx
RIP TAYLOR!!!!! There goes my hero
Alanis is ❤
Miss him so much already
2:36, Sarah Mclachlan made the Lilith Fair tour which also helped break down barriers for women.
He's so down to earth I love his humility ❤️ I miss him 😢
RIP TAYLOR HAWKINS!! Maldita coca colombiana!!!
R.I.P brave warrior.
You were one in a million.
@1:18 where he fks up the speech...love that part ..So Adorable, he didnt play it off as a perfectionist piece, Taylor said he made a mistake and asked them to roll it back ...
amazing speech. wonderful person
The music is good that explains why her success. That's it is about having good songs
What a beautiful boy so sad xx
Oh boy, we're going to miss this guy so damn much.....

I'm so upset that I won't see him play live, ever again. I Love him so much.
Do you know when Taylor Hawkins presented Alanis with the Icon Award at the Billboard's 2019 Women in Music last night.
Ilove you somuch miss ❤
Rest in peace Taylor Hawkins...
Rest in peace Taylor !
God hold you on Him hands. Amen !
god bless Taylor
He is absolutely on something in this video..What a shame.I saw Alanis twice, compare this video to Rush's induction to the RRHOF...He is wrecked..I am so heartbroken....Pictures of Dave getting off the plane in tears with their manager I can't handle
I was today years old when I found out this is how Tyler got his start. This means I've seen him in concert already. To be completely fair though, my daughter was less than a year when I seen _them_ in concert. So, I had full fledge, "mommy brain". 🤣🤣🇨🇦
He played with Sass Jordan as well.
I love you Taylor.
Love this. So real, Taylor 💯💯💯
RIP Taylor 💔
RIP Taylor Hawkins
What a nice guy
Rest in peace Taylor :(
Genio
R.i.p my guy
Just imagine how Alannis would've felt after his passing recently
Rest in beats Taylor😪💔
Only true words!
It's April 4th 2022, and as I watch this, I can't help but wonder why, up to this point, I've heard no comment from Alanis on the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins. I know she has love for him and probably has her reasons, but I'm mystified. RIP Taylor. Cheers\=/\=/
I've wondered the same.
