Even her speech can turn into a song. Her vocabulary is very wide... Shes really poetic and a true artist.
Agreed. Canadians speak English beautifully. It’s a shame the language has deteriorated so much in America. The word “which” is not used properly anymore, as an example.
Exactly my thoughts...
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 everytime her mouth opens, its just mindblowing to hear her talk!
I could listen to her for hours. And, she's easy on the eyes, 'which' certainly doesn't hurt.
sii.. han amazyng voice ,,
Even speaking it as if she s singing, I could listen to her for hours jaj
"All the women who go to work who are sensitive and terrified" that hit home.
Me too!
Definitely. I'm terrified whenever I'm surrounded by a lot of people. And I have to because Im in college. I have to brave the storm so to speak. I try to come across as tough and that nothing affects me. On the inside I'm scared that I'll mess up and someone will make fun of me, that I'll look stupid. I've been made fun of me whole life. I try to be myself, it's hard to so when a lot of people including my family try to tell me who I am. They've been drilling that into my head for so long that I start to believe all of these horrible things about myself. I'm working on it but, it's going to be a long process.
That's also me. I can so relate to Alanis. I would be the same on that stage also.
It happens to us blokes too.
Terry Newton 💯
Alanis truly is an icon! She inspired a generation.
Raven Raven She inspires me to this day and I am only a 19-year-old!
Raven Raven truly! I adore her. No one had done what she did at the time until her and Fiona Apple! Both great women!
couldnt imagine growing up without her albums
Yes! Alanis has got me through much, with Blue October💖
Her philosophies and intuition and wisdom and thoughtfulness have brought me more genuine peace than anything else in my life and I only found her work 1.5 years ago 💚
'Jagged Little Pill' definitely deserves all the acclaim it gets but 'Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie' is her absolute masterpiece!
RIGHT!!!
Agree
Yea!!! I would read the lyrics without the music sometimes. That album was amazing
That's true, SFIJ an amazing album! Love AM.
Yes 🙌🏿

"1- people will adore you
2- people will hate you
3- people won't give a shit
Keep doing whatever you're doing, because no matter what you do, those are the three responses.
So... Be yourself." 😉
Gorgeous, gorgeous woman😍Well deserved Icon Award 👏🏿👏🏿
@Ben Hakim 😴
@Ben Hakim ok, ok... take your cookie and go to sleep, kid 😴
This is possibly the most authentic speech I've ever listened to. Alanis is one of those women who continues to inspire and somehow makes being a woman at this time in history feel like a mission. It's is. As a mother of two teenage girls, I'm happy Alanis is part of the female landscape. Alanis, thank you so much for being authentically you.
Angelina Hart Thoughtful passionate, insightful observations. Recognizes the same in others with the caveat that such people are largely taken for granted. To me they aren't and they are in substantial measure the greatest contributors to the "good" on this very troubled planet. Kudos to you and of course Alanis, a once-in-a-lifetime artist.
@@greenpostdoc Once in a lifetime for sure ❤
Ditto. All of it!
That’s so beautifully put! You have a gift with words 💜
She's beautiful, articulate, honest, and humble.
She speaks like her songs
Andres 2 Dos that’s because she wrote them.
She is humble and very smart woman
She NEVER changes!!! So gorgeous and such a powerful speech. The audience was a lil quite for having such an ICON making such good points.
They are taking it in
It's rare you hear people candidly talk about fame like this. I love her ❤
“I just want to salute the women who continue to go to work who are sensitive and terrified and still go”
AWARD HER SOME MORE, THIS WOMAN IS MAGNIFICENT.
Alanis, you were the 90's for me. I blasted your songs and sang at the top of my lungs to your music, which helped me feel less alone in the world. thank you ❤
true
I feel this!
Same 😍
ive been doing it every since my dad showed me her back in middle school. and every day i love her more
Finally she gets recognition
Only Alanis can have an acceptance speech that doubles as a TEDx talk!
Love her, always have.
Madonna signed her so im not suprised at how strong and badass she is 😁
Madonna really saw the star potential in her. We stan two geniuses!!
She could be the same icon if she signed by other company
Jose M Morales she certainly would be great artistically, but Madonna’s business skills shoot her up to stardom, so no, it wouldn’t have been the same comercially.
@@gabrielalmanza9433 agree, but c'mon jlp is a great album, but maybe wouldn't have the same commercial impact or maybe could be better, we never know for sure, Madonna is a great artist and business woman btw
Jose M Morales nope because all other labels rejected her. Only maverick accepted her
Jagged Little Pill changed my life!
Alanis made me feel less alone in my late teens. I'll always appreciate her heartfelt music.
yes a nicer feeling than male domination lol
I love how vulnerable such a long-standing and iconic (sorry, Alanis) singer-songwriter can be. It's amazing that after such huge success, worldwide, a person can still be honest and grounded and represent something bigger than oneself. Major props for A.M.
Goddess. Defined a generation.
She was nervous which made the speech kind of an awkward spectacle but she still spoke from the heart with courage and said what she wanted to say. She is quite lovely.
Ironically, the nervousness is what grounded the speech. It made it authentic. It's the same authenticity that allows so many people to latch on to her music as if it was written about them. And not just during my time as a teen in the 90's, but even those same teens today. It's timeless, its honest and its simply human.
Why I admire her so much. The audience are quiet because a lot of people don’t actually want to hear their own vulnerabilities spoken out loud. She’s holding up a mirror. Many people are far too uncomfortable to be this brave.
How can one not love her!!!! UGH SHE’S SO AMAZING I FCKNG LOVE HER!!!
I know there are celebrities etc in the audience but man they seem lifeless when she cracks her cute lil quirky jokes.
Everytime she says '90's, I hear: whenever I think of the early nineties, your face comes up with a vengeance like it was yesterday...
She aged so well... and she is so happy and bubbly. I'm very happy for all of her success
Its about time she gets recognition for her music
She’s so eloquent and wise 🥰😍 “so pure” is one of my fave videos!
Neve
Hanifa Jones sup
She had that entire facility FOCUSED. The best. A true Icon!
shes my favourite female rock singer in the 90"S shes iconic! alanis is excellent in her craft as a singer and a song writer! another comebacking artist this 2020!
As a man watching a very talented and articulate lady speak, I feel engaged. I too feel scared, brave, quiet, loud, happy, sad, talented, stupid, loved and hated. But, that's what we are as humans. Alanis writes amazing songs that she sings amazingly, but I think we all have some connection to some of her songs. Could listen to her talk or sing all day. An amazing person.
It's about damn time Alanis got the respect and recognition that she deserved for her music. She absolutely deserved to win this Icon Award. She truly is an icon.
She is amazing, I love her power and her fearlessness. She is a great artist and human being ❤️
100% agree with you 😊
What a beautiful and touching way to describe her 😍💜💜💜
Alanis you're a leader
She really is an a lot of things that matter in this speech. Definitely saving this.
What a woman! I've been her follower and loyal supporter since 1998.
This is a very spiritual pure old soul. As a performer she is very good but as a human she is the best. She can put the feeling into words in like 5 minutes
GIRL DO U EVER AGE!!!! GORGEOUS!!!! ✌✌✌✌💕💕💕💕💋💋💋💋💋
Alanis Morissette nombrando a Olivia Newton-John y Annie Lennox me dio vida.
A mi también
She's so damn beautiful!!!
Shes the 1st and for now the only international artist I watched live in concert. Last year here in London. Amazing
"Thanks patriarchy for crumbling and falling."
Yes!!
🤣🤣She's great!
I love this line! 😊
@@krystalrowan7934 me too!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😂❤
My icon. And so interesting to listen to.
As an amateur musician I would have given my eye teeth to get a chance to jam with Alanis. Her monster voice, her spellbounding creativity. She transformed female rock/pop music and is up there with giants like Janis Joplin, Ann Wilson, and Annie Lennox.
The best canadian Singer ever!
For me, Joni Mitchell. I’m old.
What a classy lady , the long road of Alanis !!!! Thank you for being such a proud Canadian!!!!!!!!🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
My favourite singer and songwriter!! ❤
So very well deserved to win the Icon award!!
Such a humble, intelligent, empathetic and authentic woman and human-being who wants to help and understand others so it's no wonder she is someone who inspires me and many others to be our authentic and raw selves unshamedly and in turn encourage others to do the same.
You truly are an inspiration Alanis and Thank You for playing a part in my journey, healing and learning self love and acceptance just by being so open and vulnerable with us all ❤
Alanis is a very special human being ♥
She should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
BRILLIANT HUMAN. Healed and heals so many souls through the decades with her intelligent approach on EMPATHY.
"You've brought water to me, making sure my bloom rebounds
You know best of what my special care allows"
Yesss, Orchid!
Congrats Alanis 🥰👍 proud Canadian
I love Alanis!! She is such an amazing woman and kindred spirit. Her music is so healing. She is right about the Feminism movement is not anti-man. It is about nurturing our feminine and embracing that energy.
She's been inspiring me for 25 years! I can only imagine how much more meaningful it is for females
Jagged Little Pill will forever be my childhood🧡
AMAZING WOMAN
There’s no one else in this world of music that deserves this award more than Alanis Fucking Morissette she is a LEGEND.. if you’re young and you’ve never relished in her lyrics.. look her up!!!!!!!
She is very humorous, she definitely deserves this award. Her music has inspired me and helped me with my depression. Love her
She deserved this! Love her.
Lovely Alanis....you are so admired and loved xxxxx
The Best Alternative Rock Girl that ever did it!!!! Her songs got me through my teens and 20s and now my 30s
I could listen to this woman speak all day. She seems so intelligent. What an icon!
I’ve always loved her! She’s such an amazing person, talented artist, and a truly divine being. She helped me through so much throughout my life. This world is blessed to have her in it!
Brillant speech!!!! She is so smart and sincere!!
I'm proud I grew up looking up to her. I remember when she just started out just as clearly as I'm watching her now. She truly is a hero. And she truly is an icon because having witnessed her has truly impacted and empowered a generation that can now distinct a lot of things that otherwise would have escaped us.
Wow.....she is even more beautiful now than she was when she was younger ❤️❤️❤️
I completely agree
How cool. She just had a jagged little baby!
I'm glad they gave her this award. It is do interesting what she had to say. Anyone can learn from her.
She continues to be brave and inspiring.
Truly an exemplary speech. It was honest, articulate and enlightening. "Thank you" for helping me actually survive the turn of the century. Thank goodness for art.
Beautiful in and out, a strong intelligent woman.
Es una gran mujer, madre, esposa y por supuesto una gran artista, un gran saludo desde Chile
Eres una inspiración, felicitaciones por vuestra familia.
She's been our favourite singer since we were 11 and still got it. What a fucking speech!!!!!❤❤❤❤
She’s beautiful. Such a talented, well spoken woman who really grew to be very gorgeous. She’s a very interesting person too. I could listen her talk all day.
me i loved and adore you eversince..god bless take care..
Jagged little pill shaped me as a person. Will always be grateful for that.
god she's so good with words, all her songs were poetic no wonder, grew up in 90's listening to her, an inspiring amazing woman, she still rocks.
Your really worth it, dearest Alanis. Love you Soul of Souls
Alanis is an amazing creature. I'm so thankful that she has the courage to face her fears and share her gift. I wish I could reach out to her, not just as a fan but a fellow human connected in many ways.
She’s so incredible
A looooovely soul, THANK YOU for shining your light Alanis - it‘s not loved nor hated or ignored - it‘s ESSENTIAL and very much needed 🙏🏼🧡🙌🩷🤗
so happy for her..she really deserves this award
Beautiful speech.
What a gift of a speech, what a gift of a person.
Her husband is the real MVP; he brought her Fiji water.👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
she is so sure about her character and she feels good in her own skin, it is admirable. I really like her and she is a huge inspiration to me.
I’m so happy to see Alanis again. My first true love crush. She is the best.
She is so powerful when she sings and when she speaks
What a beautiful woman. So proud that w/o expecting her to, she represents the condition of being a woman so well. Thank you.
It´s so funny to hear her talking about being labeled as "angry!"
As a kid growing up in the 90´s that´s exactly how I would describe the rock/pop rock scene back then.
I feel like all of us felt that way. There was so much anger and build up from frustrations that it poured into the musical scene . AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!
It was all we needed. I feel like we were given an outlet. An inspiration. It all camew together.
And all the male led bands did the same! So...Thank you Alanis. Jagged Little Pill is still one of my all time favorites!!!
thanks for getting me ! I love you!!
The Jagged Little Pill album I would have to say became sort of an anthem for young people (from 1995 to today) just trying to figure their lives out. From July to November 2018 (at age 21), I was going through this particular time and that album helped me cope. A year later I still don't know where I am headed but I know it will work out in the end. From one Introvert to another, congratulations Alanis. Also, does anyone see a resemblance to Molly Ringwald today?
@Michael Paola: Alanis’ Jagged Little Album was definitely an album that helped me figure out things in my 20s- I think I was 19 and listened to that album the summer of ‘95 and the following year- in college, heard her album so many times in the dorm halls - have loved Alanis ever since 🥰
That Billy elish girl is like “who is that “ 😒😒😒 ---🥰🥰Alanis💙
The best of them all.
Dear Alanis, I was a student down in 96 and your Jagged little pill made my life better! Love your music and your modesty as a truly icon! All the best and greetings from Croatia! Come and visit us :-)
You know what I like about her is her intellectual fortitude. She enjoys being a woman. Love that. Her Father's advice was brilliant. Her album Jagged Pill from 95 was brilliant.
Only Alanis can give reasons to drink in a very gentle way. She is amazing. Greetings from Hungary
ICON. What a joy to hear that speech.
what a beauty she has become!
I've always loved hearing her voice as a singer, but it changed me to hear her talk b/c she expressed the same honesty in speaking as when she's singing.
I'm glad she didn't disappear and maybe created a place she wanted to be in this business. She's an incredible woman and I think the world has finally caught up to someone like an Alanis Morissette. #phenomenalwoman
WOW! Age has made Alanis even more beautiful. She is a true icon! Owns one of the greatest albums of all time. Yes of ALL TIME!
I love her so much, she was part of my adolescent/teen years. All of her albums have a special place in my heart.
