  • This beginner pilates reformer exercise is a fantastic exercise to strengthen scapular stabilisers. The shoulder blades need to be in lateral rotation throughout which strengthens serrated anterior (an important shoulder stability muscle). The challenge is to keep the upper trapezius disengaged (soft) as the arms straighten and bend. The humerus bone needs to externally rotate for this to happen whilst scapular depression and lateral rotation occurs.
