Your cueing is phenomenal! I trained with Stott and they focused on being able to cue through mental pictures so your style really helps me to engage the proper muscles. Cues like “holding a ruler behind your knees”, “reaching your knees up to where the wall meets the ceiling” “squeezing your armpits”, “pulling your hands apart” (when holding a pole) and having us use our hands to feel where our hips, ribcage, glutes and pubic bones are while performing the exercises are a game changer. Brilliant Debra. I'm thrilled you got something out of the workout. Keep up the good work. Having a box is an investment! So many good exercises on the reformer use a box. Enjoy!
Your series of videos are amazing and the best that I have found anywhere. Very true to classical pilates and instructions are clear and the tempo is perfect. It was only towards the end of the beginner video that I realized you were not talking while doing the routine but narrating. The whole series is very professionally done - THANK YOU! ❤
I am so happy to hear this Danijela. Thank-you for your comment about true to the Method, clear instructions and tempo. I have put a-lot of time and energy into these videos so really appreciate you acknowledging them as professional.
Thank you for your comment Zack, I really appreciate it. My passion is teaching teachers actually, so you have made my day! Good luck with your teaching.
After searching many reformer videos , ı found out that yours is the best with the springs presented and clear instructions. You are an excellent tutor. I have started series. Beginner seems easy for me so ı will start with the level 2.
Thankyou for your comment, I really appreciate it. Yes, after trying the Level 1 if you feel its not the correct level for you then definitely jump to level 2. But you are doing the right thing by starting at Level 1 and moving your way up to a level you find challenging. Then stay on that level until you can do it with ease.
After checking out many (MANY!) videos and apps, this is exactly what I was looking for to learn to use my home reformer. Thank you and looking forward to the series - Jen in MA
I just cleaned up and set up my reformer. I found this workout to be challenging yet pleasurable. I’ve never stayed consistent with a workout for the entire duration in my life. Thank you Nell. I will certainly be implementing this as my early morning routine. -Amanda
Your comment has made my day Amanda! I am thrilled for you that you completed the whole workout. I believe exercise should be exactly that, enjoyable yet challenging. I want you to walk away feeling like you have been stretched, strengthen and had a massage! Keep up the good work.
Just dusted off my reformer that stood in the corner of my bedroom for many years. Your program was perfect for me. I've completed the beginner's level 1 three times and am looking forward to others! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this, Nell! We're under stay-at-home orders here in California and I'm using this video multiple times a week in replacement for physical therapy for compressed L4 and L5 vertebrae, so thank you especially for the reminders to create space a length. My medicinal movement :) I can't wait to follow this series with you!
Thank you Lindsay for your comment. It brings me joy to know you are doing this a few times a week and benefiting from it. I herniated L4/L5 many moons ago. I couldn't walk. Thats why I started doing Pilates and it fixed me. Decompressing the spine whilst creating strength and eventually more mobility is the answer. Keep up the good work and remember to listen to your body. Nx
I have just completed my first exercise at home by watching this. Really nice job! I really enjoyed it thanks a lot! Options for springs are helpful. I just can't control my breathing sometimes but I believe it will be ok in time. I plan to complete all your videos day by day! Thanksss from Turkey!
Hi Buket, I’m happy to hear you have started the series and enjoyed it. Only move up to the next level once you can do all the exercises in this level with ease. It will take a little while to get there but we’ll worth the perseverance.
Just the best series I have come across, clear instructions reminding where we should be feeling the exercise AND where all the body parts should be. Having so many routines to work through makes this my go to workout every time. Thank you for sharing, it’s been a fantastic journey re discovering a fitter body shape AND a body without pain. Wish I had discovered Pilates decades ago !
bb06barnes Thankyou! I couldn’t agree more. Practice like this and then you will progress staying injury free. ‘Build your house on sand and it will crumble, build it on solid foundation and it will last forever’
Hi, I am over 60 and just getting back into Pilates after many, many, many..........years of doing not so much of anything. I am looking forward to trying out your 45min routine. Slow and steady wins the race.....:)
I love your attention to detail!!! Your words really create a visual in my mind. I recently acquired an old reformer, it has ropes instead of bands and springs. It is not very smooth and very difficult to change the position of the handles. I can see now why it was given away but I hoped it would work. I am missing the smooth glide of a professional reformer I used when I first took a few classes a few years ago. Don't quite know what to do. I am guessing whatever movement I can do is better than nothing.
Hi Ingrid. Glad to hear you find the cues effective. I'm a very visual person and find imagery helps me connect to the exercise. Oh no...your reformer, even though it was free, sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Keep doing your best on it, give it a clean along the rails to see if that helps with the glide and clean the wheels under the carriage too. Maybe ask Santa for a new reformer for Xmas! :)
This is exactly why I was asking now about her recommendations for an excellent home Reformer. I’m currently looking at a allegro from a private owner for $1000, but willing to spend more if it means that my experience will be so much better. I’m used to working out on balance body professional reformers and love those. I’m in a quandary about whether or not to spend the extra money and get that instead
This is the best! I love a classic Reformer flow that allows for progression over time. I have been doing Reformer regularly for about 2 years and still working on my upper body strength and spinal flexibility.
i love the way you organized in a series, color coded to show they are part of the series and all. And your instructions are superb, though I would wish that you would show the first movement in detail, and then some bell sound or something to show that we are going on to the next move (so I wouldn't have to stick my head to see if we are moving on to the next move)
Hi sunny. Thanks for your comment I really appreciated it. Yeah…this video editing and teaching for video is harder than it looks! 😂 this was the first video I made and was nervous but have learnt along the way as best to improve your experience. I will definitely take your feedback on board. 🙏Keep up the good work 💪🏼
I just bought my balance body pilates machine and your videos have help me soooo much. A true work out experience. Thanks a million for this. Just a suggestion, could you mention red , green and blue when it come to switching weight. Again thank you so much.
Fantastic! So happy you feel like its a true workout experience. You are very welcome. I dont mention spring colours because each brand has different tensions and colours. Keep up the good work 🙏🏼💪🏼🤸🏼♀️
Hey Kelly, if you can invest in a Long Box, it is well worth it. So many awesome exercises, particularly as you progress into the more advanced work, are done on a box. There has been some suggestions in other comments you may want to have a look at. Otherise you can do all the box exercises using a Swissball on the floor.
Great workout! This was the first workout I’ve done since my baby was born, she’s 7 months old. I just bought a reformer on Craigslist, it isn’t nearly as nice as yours so I had to modify and I couldn’t do the last part. I don’t have a foot board for standing on and I don’t have a block. Just as well, my body is done! Thank you for the great class!
Congratulations on your baby and that you got a workout in with a 7month old! You are a Super mum 💪🏼 And well done with tweaking the exercises to suit your equipment. As some say ‘Your creativity is your only limitation’ . Keep up the good work.
I appreciate your comment, thankyou. It can be challenging to find the time and energy to get a workout in postpartum but keep up the good work and take your time getting strong again.
I just subbed, I don't have a reformer just yet, hoping to get a used decent reformer this week! I'm impressed qith your vids, trying to get familiar with reformer pilates. I do mat and chair pilates and love them both! Excited to expand my pilates workouts! Thank you for your videos!
Thank you for the awesome workouts! Your detailed descriptions are super helpful as a first time pilates student! I can already feel the benefits and look forward to progressing more through your series. Keep it up!!! Also thanks for the short work outs when I don't have the time to fit in a longer one!!
This is absolutely the best beginner workout for my new reformer. I'm looking for the pdf of the excercises but not finding it. The only thing I think it can improve on is listing the springs at the beginning rather than the delay of what springs to do so that we have time to change them in advance of the next workout. I'm still doing the beginner 1 45 min workout since by the time you get to level 2 you went so much faster and I have to keep stopping the video so I have time to change the springs each time. It makes for a longer workout since I have to stop and start so many times. Thanks for all you do!!
Thanks for your comment. Yes it is fast and I’m learning along the way how best to do the videos. Stopping and starting is a great way to do it. Also you can slow the speed down of the video in settings. The PDF is in the description.
Thanks so much for this. I loved it. Your voice and teaching are so calming and informative. I have done my teacher training on the reformer but have struggled to find any classes here in the UK where I live so I can't practice unless I just use my manual and then it's stop start with no flow which is very frustrating. This is the perfect way to get to do a class remotely and it's a lovely flow. I feel stretched and lengthened, strong and aligned!
Thats brilliant Jayne, I'm so happy you feel like that post workout...perfect! I know exactly what you mean about doing a class that you can flow though. Keep up the good work and all the best with teaching.
Awesome video! I just got my Pilates Reformer 5 cord a few days ago & was looking for a great series of videos to follow other than the DVDs that came with it. I love this video & look forward to the rest of them as I progress. I don’t own the box but I think I’m getting it so I can follow each piece of the video. Thanks for sharing! BTW: I subscribed your channel too!

I read through the other comments and want to say first off that I really appreciated your great instruction on how to do each exercise and which muscle groups should be working and which should be relaxed. I hope you don't mind a bit of constructive criticism too. We all grow as professionals when people are brave enough to challenge us to think about doing something differently. So... here goes. First, there are plenty of people interested in learning Pilates who have very weak muscles, joint issues (i.e. knee problems especially!) or are quite obese. I have had Pilates instruction, but because of COVID 19 haven't been to a studio in close to a year now. I am getting back at it slowly. I cannot lift my bottom off the carriage and the second move you did with the bottom lifted and pushing the carriage out does not seem like a beginner move to me, or at least it isn't at the studio I go to! Someone with a very large, fleshy belly cannot do the moves that require hinging at the hip inwards -- the belly is in the way and one cannot breathe very quickly! Some alternate moves for those of us with challenges like this would be much appreciated. I tried to find my own alternates since I have some experience. Also, some who have a Reformer at home do not have the box. What alternate ways are there to do the moves that required the box? I ended up skipping over them and doing a different workout by someone else to target those muscle groups. I do not say any of this to discourage you. I think you style of presentation is GREAT and I look forward to getting trimmer and being able to do your workouts with a bit more ease sometime in the future. Thank you for your service to the Pilates community via your wonderful videos.
Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely right, for a client who was large and not able to lift the pelvis off the carriage or flex the spine because the tummy is in the way...I would give different exercises. Absolutely. These workouts are not for special needs people unless you know how to modify. This is one of the challenges when doing workouts that are not specifically tailored to an individual and are more of a generic workout. If I was taking a large clientvthru, I would still get them to do Spine Curls, which is the exercise lifting the pelvis, but I would get them to focus on tucking the pelvis and only lifting the tailbone and base of the pelvis. So you still ‘ do the exercise’ but only the first little part of. With the abdominal, keep your head/chest down and just do the arms and legs part of the exercise. You will still get a strong abdominal connection doing that. Regarding the box...the 30min workout of this level doesn’t use a box so you could do that video? I suggest people to purchase a box because it’s an investment well worth it. Thank you for you feedback and I hope this has helped in some way. All the best.

Thank you for this great beginner workout! After not being on a reformer for almost a year, I wanted to ease back in and this was perfect!
Happy to hear you are getting back into Pilates. Keep up the good work and take your time building up your strength.

I could not agree more!! Clear concise explains everything. You ROCK Ness
Nicola Morley Thankyou so much for your comment. It means a lot to me. Nx
Thanks for this.... I miss my reformer classes in person so I finally bought my own reformer and this was my test run! YAY.
Well done Lynn, keep up the good work.
It’s just gotten so costly to take reformer classes in a studio. I plan to buy my own reformer for at home use this month.
Wonderful instruction! When done right, the basics provide a great workout 👍👍👯
bb06barnes Thankyou!

Absolutely Ann!
Very clear cues! Loved the workout.

Honestly your instructions and prompts are amazing! I feel like you can see me 😅. Thanks so much!
I'm so glad! Keep up the good work
I love your attention to detail!!!
Loved this! Can't wait to continue with the series!
Julia Deleon Thankyou so much for your comment, I love it that you loved it!! Uploading the next one soon. Nx
This is the best! I love a classic Reformer flow that allows for progression over time. I have been doing Reformer regularly for about 2 years and still working on my upper body strength and spinal flexibility.
🙏Me too! Keep up the good work. 💪🏼
Exquisite, meticulous and precise workout, thanks so much, I really enjoyed it.
Liliana Martinez thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it

i love the way you organized in a series, color coded to show they are part of the series and all.

Keep up the good work 🙏🏼💪🏼🤸🏼♀️
YOU'RE AWESOME! THANK YOU!

Any suggestions for what I can use in place of the long box? I don't own one. Thanks. Loved your workout and instructions! Excellent.
I purchased a "Performer" several years ago, & it has worked great. I can move it around &/or store it.
Awesome session!

Brilliant video, I love that I can choose a move within the video and repeat!💫💗
That’s great to hear! 🙏💪🏼🤸🏻♀️
I appreciate your content thank you, helping me with postpartum
