Many years ago, I sat at the front table for a singer/songwriter round table at The Bottom Line in NYC's Greenwich Village. Each of the four singers would talk about a song they wrote and then play it, with the others joining in as they saw fit. Luka was the youngest and least well-known that night but really held his own, with his own songs and playing along with the others. They were Roseanne Cash, David Byrne, and Lou Reed.
Just stumbled onto the #RaveOnVanMorrison playlist the other day and there's some really superb covers on there. This is up with the best of them. Thank you for uploading. When the world is going mad these tunes really help.
This was a big ask to cover the song that holds so many memories for so many people. You nailed it. Well done and thank you. It is fitting that you got to cover this one after a lifetime of contribution to music in Ireland.
What a joy to hear Luka's stunning voice & guitar playing again and a treat to have it interpret a Van song on this special occasion. Beautifully staged as well in these times of lockdown - I love the stained glass and the chicken at his feet!
This version takes the mystical magic of one of the most enigmatic songs in rock history to a place so new while adding to its spirit that it deserves to exist as a different song. Jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Whenever I hear “Madam George” I feel like a child; so much of what’s being expressed goes over my head... you’re right, an enigmatic song. All I know is that I come out of the experience with a profound sense of loss and sadness.
Loved this cover of one of Van Morrison’s best songs. Luka Bloom gave a soulful performance with his strong, but sensitive voice. Guitar - awesome! Chicken - very attentive and no distracting clucking! Super! #RaveOnVanMorrison
Spot on Luka. I will always remember a gig of yours in the Underground on Dame St., I think you were starting a residency there. The brother was your backing band and there was a leak in the roof with rain or a burst pipe dripping all around so you had to do an acoustic set as did Christy. Must have been one of your toughest ever as the crowd was a little drunk and kept talking and the old acoustic wasn't loud enough to drown them out. You played your heart out and it was hugely memorable.

Nice one Barry!
Nice version by Luka Bloom. It's good that he doesn't try to mimic Van as nobody succeeds at that.
Gritty is pretty.
Pity Bap Kennedy wasn't alive to sing this song.
