I think Mili's new song is related to the Korean poet "Yoon Dong-joo." Yoon Dong-joo is a poet who wrote a poem wishing for Korea's liberation while being taken to Japan during the Japanese colonial era period and subjected to human experiments. In Yoon Dong-joo's poem, "Night of Counting the Stars": "(···) stars for my mother, mother. (···)" In mili's new song: "Thinking about you, Mother" "They can never take anything from our souls" reminds me of those who resisted Japanese rule, and "Fed me a foreign language" It means forcing Koreans to write Japanese. The title "Salt, Pepper, Birds, and the Thought Police" is the homage of Yoon Dong-joo's poem "Sky, Wind, Stars, and Poetry". In the painting, a girl with bird wings sits in a cage, and after Yoon Dong-ju's death, koreans cannot write that he died in prison by the torture of the Japanese police because the Japanese tried to hide his death, so they wrote on his tombstone comparing it to a bird trapped in a cage. "Whistling a tune, pffhw" seems to have been derived from the fact that Yoon Dong-joo whistled well. "The stars never looked so kind The wind ever so fragrant" is the stars and wind of "Sky, Wind, Stars, and Poetry." "Then the moonlit birds came to meet me They stole the key and opened the gates We're finally free I picked up my bicycle Riding home to Mother" means the death of Yun Dong-joo. LoR is a Korean game that deals with books and literature as its main themes. Also, LoR cites the verse of Yoon Dong-joo's poem every time the chapter passes.

I re read the lyrics at the end only to find out... That the birds helping them espace and the fact that the protagonist literally rided home to his mother by bicycle (when they were brought by train) was not even metaphorical, but *imaginary* . The memorial park and the white chrysanthemums, means that they are dead. Their poem being spread after their death and truthfully marking history with their statements, feelings, and hopes for the future only being recognized after they are gone. It's heartbreaking that we only get to understand the value of self-expression only after people literally died from keeping their beliefs and thoughts, it's even worse when you know that it's still happening but no one knows.
I may not have played the game but I understood this part. I felt a chill run down my spine when I heard the parts when the protagonist was arrested and the cramped train.
Though this may have been the final piece created for Library of Ruina, we'll treasure these wonderful songs for years to come. It's been a great time, everyone, and I hope to see you with Limbus Company again! Keep your eyes buttered till the end!

@RazWan Ah, don't worry. Mili will surely be making more music in the future- but for a while, they've been producing music for a game called "Library of Ruina", and this is the final song they made for the game. My comment was about how we all appreciate the music Mili made for Library of Ruina. Hope this clears things up!
Hey there! This is Mili. We were planning to release a crowdfunded vinyl record of "To Kill a Living Book-for Library Of Ruina-" through Bandcamp... today. Or better, follow us on Bandcamp to get an email notification: project-mili.bandcamp.com Thank you so much! I hope you liked our little song!
The song as well as the news about upcoming vinyl are super amazing but I've got a serious question... Where's the recipe for roasted creamed lemon chicken? -. -`
Thank you for all your hard work!!! This song is incredibly beautiful, the beat is so joyful and hopeful, the lyrics same time heartbreaking. All a classic. This feels like more a series of universal feelings and thoughts gracefully executed and I love it. Thanks for all you have done!! Take your time and take care of yourself.
Let me have no shame Under the heaven Till I die Even winds among the foliage Pained my heart With a heart that sings of the stars, I'll love all dying things And I must fare the path That's been allotted to me Tonight also The winds sweep over the stars --------------------------------- 한국어 서시 윤동주 죽는 날까지 하늘을 우러러 한 점 부끄럼이 없기를, 잎새에 이는 바람에도 나는 괴로워했다.
.. To all people who cried for someone in this song, Thanks. we will think more about who died for future time, for us.
honestly wish that mili continues to do songs with PM in their future games. not every game of course, but mili did a great job on library of ruina, and its hard to imagine the games lyrical songs being replaced with anything else.
I could only hope so much Mili would make atleast few songs in LCB but I can only hope so much.. I think it's fine if they don't make it in at all, they already did a fantastic job for Ruina and making more songs for PM next game somehow feels asking too much
A Night for Counting Stars by Yun Dong-ju Autumn is full of the sky, as the season passes. It seems that I can count all the stars in sky, in autumn, without any worries. Why I can't count all the faint stars in my heart, Because morning comes easily, Because tomorrow night is only left, It is because my youth is not yet over, truly. Memory for one star, Love for another star, Loneliness for another star, Longing for another star, Poetry for another star, My mother, mother for another star. Mother, I call a beautiful name for each star. The names of my friends, who I shared the same desks, when I was in elementary school; I call. Such as Pae, Gyeong, and Ok; the names of foreign girls, The names of girls who are already mothers, The names of poor neighbors, The names of pigeons, dogs, rabbits, roe deer, and mules, Francis Jammes, Rainer Maria Rilke; the names of these poets. As the stars are far away, they are too far away. Mother, you are far away, in Northern Gando away. So I, something, missed, I wrote my name on the hill where many starlights fell, and covered my name with dirt. All night long, the grass bugs sing. It's probably because they are ashamed of their names. But when spring comes to my star, after winter passes, on the hills where a letter of my name were buried in lands. Like green grass bloom on the grave, they will grow lush like pride.
I mean to say this(sorry for my poor English); at first,I wanted to know(and think) some of the meanings of lyrics since there are such ambiguous points in this music so I read English comments. However,I was very astonished because they relation to Korea's history colonized by Japan but I hadn't known the poet so far. I thought I knew what Japan did in the past, but I didn't really know them. Now I am very ashamed...
Mili - Salt, Pepper, Birds, and the Thought Police Bamboo basket, reflector, working breaks Never forget your helmet, trusty Mips See ya, I'm off to the morning market. Thirty-three lemons A healthy looking chicken and a dozen of free range eggs Thanks, keep the change Whistling a tune, (attempting) pffhw I'm home What a perfect day I hanged the sheets out in the yard Oiled up my baking tray Thinking about you, Mother To recite her famous words All you need are salt and pepper To taste the happiness of life forever Then the moon rose And creamed lemon chicken roasted in the oven Men in black kicked down my front door Hey! Who? What? Why? "You violated act 617 - Illegal Thoughts" "You're under arrest" We all know the real answer was "You shouldn't have been born the way you are" And we're packed in a cargo choo choo train Squeezing against the bodies similar to me With tears rolling down our faces We began to sing "They can never take anything from our souls" Louder and louder "They can never take anything from our souls" Louder and louder They shaved off my hair Fed me a foreign language Looking on the bright side, I'm alive I still remember all the people I love So come at me, and do your worst All this pain and suffer Don't stand a change against our iron hearts As the morning came and went And the people stayed and left And the earth went 'round and around The stars never looked so kind The wind ever so fragrant Through the tiny slit on the wall Every night I was invited to watch A theatre played by moonlit birds Tehy spread their wings Carrying our silenced voices Singing our historic songs Letting everyone in the future know That we existed What a perfect night I felt the urge to write a book Pass down my life Until recently, time didn't feel so fast With my bloody finger tip All I needed were sticks and paper I started to write, poems after poems Then the moonlit birds came to meet me They stole the key and opened the gates We're finally free I picked up my bicycle Riding home to Mother Writing my delusion world I saw a version of heaven Where I sat in my yard Reading a paperback print of my book On a hillside, your little first clutching sweat Walking to the memorial park You put down freshly cut white chrysanthemums A former Thought Police lowers her hat Children lying on the grass Singing to poems written by me
This song is so bittersweet and well-made. I felt such an urge to cry, imagining the character's sorrows. I imagined all those lives that were silenced in our History (by wars, religious conflicts and many other problems, such as the effects of prejudice and hatred). This song is a blessing for us to think about many things in the eyes of that character. Sometimes, all we want (in reality or fiction) is to have a delicious picnic or lunch, in a peaceful time, having company of someone we appreciate (ourselves or someone else). Well, that's just my interpretation obviously, hehe. Thanks for this song, Mili
I didn't feel the urge to cry, i did cry. At first I thought it was just another Mili song with a story I know I'm not going to get. But then i looked up the inspiration for it, and read through the story of the poet. Then i listened to it again, focusing on the lyrics, the story of the poet playing in my mind. I just sat there, my eyes overflowing with tears and my snot running down my nose, i fuckin got it.
@@pravum3150 When the part "They snagged the key, and opened the gates, We're finally free, I picked up my bicycle, Riding home to mother" came, I felt some tears. It's a great song, but I feel it will be hard to listen at work or on the way there, because I might cry for real.
@@pravum3150 For me it's "Writing my delusion world, I saw a version of heaven where I sat in my yard". The imagery is so simple, something easy to take for granted, yet it's contrasted powerfully with the story of the poet it's based on.

I'm Japanese, but I'm embarrassed that I didn't know Yun Dong-ju. It's a very sad song, but I hope poetry, games and music connect people peacefully across countries and races. Thank you for participating in LoR, mili
It's more like a life in the Coty song and how life is like when you're a star of the City. But then Momocashew explained it's more like general life where no matter who you are in the City, you had to abide the laws provided by A corp...
Havent played that, and this comment is two years old, but is it not a bad ending? it outright stated that the end of the song is imaginary, she ended up dying in prison
Honestly, I was kinda sad when mili apology for the iron lotus's back ground image is similar to Japanese hakenkreuz. Korea is one of the latest country where are became independence. (It happened in 1945 not even after 100 yet.) people in comment section was like: "GEEZ its just back ground image. Koreans are just so sensitive" While there's still my grandparents have gunshot wound. And bring me to A place to commemorate for people who died in war. They attended there every year. Like, Siriously. We are still in recovery. And as a person who love poets about country's independece. I just love this song from my soul
Well instead of everything else, the most fantastic part is the last two lines. 'The former think police lowers her hat (...) singing to poems written by me.' Former thought police(the Japanese) refers to singer-Mili especially momochashew herself), so these two lines perfectly summerizes the whole song, Korean-Japan relationship now, and Mili's personal repent to the poet who gave inspire to the lyrics. As a Korean, it was the most moving part.
There's also the line about white chrysanthemum just before. The imperial seal of Japan is a chrysanthemum, and the Japanese monarchy is often referred to as the Chrysanthemum Throne.
For those who may want to understand the meaning behind the song, This song is based on the paperback called the "Sky, wind and stars" (originally called "하늘과 바람과 별과 시" = "The Sky, Wind, Stars and Poem" if translated directly), and also a tribute to the poet Yun Dong-Ju, a Korean Poet.
As a Jewish person, I associated it for the Holocaust. Especially for the people who drew art and wrote things while in camps. Especially that my family had a similar story where they were suddenly taken to camps while the Hallahs they baked for Friday were still in the oven. Reading the comments and learning that it's for the Korean poet who was captured by the Japanese police was eye opening and depressing. For me, this song is very meaningful and also lovely. Thank you Mili for making such a beautiful song💖
The combination of Mili is incredible and unique. If u listen to MIlI, then u only listen to MILI because it's hard to find the same feeling. Mili is Magic.
The album name being To Kill a Living Book also reminds me of the book burnings, like i know this song is about a korean poet but it can also be so easily interpreted as the horrors of the holocaust too and its dismal
First hearing this song, I really holding my tears because I think the story telling me about the point of view of people that have become victim of ethnic cleaning and then I look at other comment then I realize that my speculation no all wrong but this song specified to some revolutionary figure from korea when he caught by japan.. now I barely couldn't hold my tears and know more about a little story about the tragedy of human.. thank you mili and for koreans, you have my respect
I've just watched Ado's premiere and now there is a mili premiere. this month is the best! (Also watched a ton of other musician's new october releases. It was all awesome)
I love how jazzy and upbeat the song is despite its dark material. I also love all the character in the singing itself, from the giggling to the huge changes in singing style to match the singers emotions.
this song seem to related to korean poet yoon dong-joo but from LOR point of view it seem like telling someone who either live in a back street or a wings and suddenly have their freedom strip away. the song seem to show how the city can either give you a freedom and happy life or took it away like it was nothing.
This is the first time a song I've heard before makes me cry. This played on a random Mix youtube recommended me and got lost. Found it back and was vibing so hard I rewinded and thought I'd read the lyrics to sing along. Now I'm a crying mess... The composer and writer you're amazing and prodigies. I will never forget about your talent or this song for the rest of my life.

Yun Dong-ju (1917-1945)
Let me have no shame
Under the heaven
Till I die
Even winds among the foliage
Pained my heart
With a heart that sings of the stars,
I'll love all dying things
And I must fare the path
That's been allotted to me
Tonight also
The winds sweep over the stars

I don’t get it… why’s the punctuation used like that? Is Korean poetry different in how they use it?

honestly wish that mili continues to do songs with PM in their future games. not every game of course, but mili did a great job on library of ruina, and its hard to imagine the games lyrical songs being replaced with anything else.
I completely agree. The complex, deep, and morally ambiguous stories Project Moon tells work really well with the types of songs Mili produces!

A Night for Counting Stars
by Yun Dong-ju
Autumn is full of the sky,
as the season passes.
It seems that
I can count all the stars in sky,
in autumn, without any worries.
Why I can't count all the faint stars in my heart,
Because morning comes easily,
Because tomorrow night is only left,
It is because my youth is not yet over, truly.
Memory for one star,
Love for another star,
Loneliness for another star,
Longing for another star,
Poetry for another star,
My mother, mother for another star.
Mother, I call a beautiful name for each star.
The names of my friends,
who I shared the same desks,
when I was in elementary school;
I call.
Such as Pae, Gyeong, and Ok; the names
of foreign girls,
The names of girls
who are already mothers,
The names of poor neighbors,
The names of pigeons, dogs, rabbits,
roe deer, and mules,
Francis Jammes, Rainer Maria Rilke; the names
of these poets.
As the stars are far away,
they are too far away.
Mother, you are far away,
in Northern Gando away.
So I, something, missed,
I wrote my name on the hill
where many starlights fell,
and covered my name with dirt.
All night long,
the grass bugs sing.
It's probably because
they are ashamed of their names.
But when spring comes to my star,
after winter passes,
on the hills where a letter
of my name were buried in lands.
Like green grass bloom on the grave,
they will grow lush like pride.

Mili - Salt, Pepper, Birds, and the Thought Police
Bamboo basket, reflector, working breaks
Never forget your helmet, trusty Mips
See ya, I'm off to the morning market.
Thirty-three lemons
A healthy looking chicken and a dozen of free range eggs
Thanks, keep the change
Whistling a tune, (attempting) pffhw
I'm home
What a perfect day
I hanged the sheets out in the yard
Oiled up my baking tray
Thinking about you, Mother
To recite her famous words
All you need are salt and pepper
To taste the happiness of life forever
Then the moon rose
And creamed lemon chicken roasted in the oven
Men in black kicked down my front door
Hey! Who? What? Why?
"You violated act 617 - Illegal Thoughts"
"You're under arrest"
We all know the real answer was
"You shouldn't have been born the way you are"
And we're packed in a cargo choo choo train
Squeezing against the bodies similar to me
With tears rolling down our faces
We began to sing
"They can never take anything from our souls"
Louder and louder
"They can never take anything from our souls"
Louder and louder
They shaved off my hair
Fed me a foreign language
Looking on the bright side, I'm alive
I still remember all the people I love
So come at me, and do your worst
All this pain and suffer
Don't stand a change against our iron hearts
As the morning came and went
And the people stayed and left
And the earth went 'round and around
The stars never looked so kind
The wind ever so fragrant
Through the tiny slit on the wall
Every night I was invited to watch
A theatre played by moonlit birds
Tehy spread their wings
Carrying our silenced voices
Singing our historic songs
Letting everyone in the future know
That we existed
What a perfect night
I felt the urge to write a book
Pass down my life
Until recently, time didn't feel so fast
With my bloody finger tip
All I needed were sticks and paper
I started to write, poems after poems
Then the moonlit birds came to meet me
They stole the key and opened the gates
We're finally free
I picked up my bicycle
Riding home to Mother
Writing my delusion world
I saw a version of heaven
Where I sat in my yard
Reading a paperback print of my book
On a hillside, your little first clutching sweat
Walking to the memorial park
You put down freshly cut white chrysanthemums
A former Thought Police lowers her hat
Children lying on the grass
Singing to poems written by me
Thirty three lemons though.

@@pravum3150 When the part "They snagged the key, and opened the gates,

The fact that this song was mainly made by Japanese artists, makes me feel that we are moving forward, and it fills me with positive vibes :)
Mili is a band that mixed Japanese musicians, a Chinese Canadian singer, with English lyric and they worked many great songs for Korean gamesXD
As a Jewish person, I associated it for the Holocaust. Especially for the people who drew art and wrote things while in camps. Especially that my family had a similar story where they were suddenly taken to camps while the Hallahs they baked for Friday were still in the oven.

This is one of the most Mili songs to ever exist and I adore it

@@lyrrbalriel3174 All of these new M3 album announcements are making this month so good for music
I love how jazzy and upbeat the song is despite its dark material. I also love all the character in the singing itself, from the giggling to the huge changes in singing style to match the singers emotions.
Have you heard sustain++
@@__-yu8vi Yes, i like it too.
this song seem to related to korean poet yoon dong-joo
but from LOR point of view it seem like telling someone who either live in a back street or a wings and suddenly have their freedom strip away. the song seem to show how the city can either give you a freedom and happy life or took it away like it was nothing.

We all know the real answer was
"You shouldn't have been born the way you are"

I'm still so amazed of the art accompanied by the song so much, both are beautiful
You may be interested in the album this song is in. Come check it someday.
