America's First Ladies - The Inaugural Gowns Collection

- During our 2019 trip to Washington, DC we had the opportunity to see the ongoing exhibition of the First Ladies Inaugural Gowns at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
The gowns were shown with the handbags and shoes that the First Ladies used during the inaugural balls. Please note that I did not see all of the dresses. A lot of people have commented that I don't show Melania Trump's dress. That's for the simple reason that I never saw it. There were a lot of people there the day we went due to Memorial Day week and it was extremely crowded, so I wasn't able to see everything.
It was a lovely exhibit and informative. You can find a bit more information here: americanhistory.si.edu/exhibi...

This was awesome to see. The historical fashions were awesome.
I liked your video being from Canada we don’t have the rich history so I do enjoy it thanks
Where is Melania ? She was beautiful.
No dress was on display for her when we were there.
She will probably never get the recognition she deserves. Such a shame...she is stunning and dresses so classy!
@@TheEmptyArmchairWere all the other First Ladies represented??
I don’t remember, but I know I didn’t get all of them.
I hope that Damsel stays way off.
Her taste was incredible.
And she isn't what one might expect from a LADY.
Not to speak of the First Lady...
Dolly Madison’s dress was so beautiful, and it’s timeless, it still is fashionable.
And she was incredibly tiny. We went to her home Montpelier years ago and they had one of her dresses on a mannequin there. Both she and her husband were small.
Where is Melania’s.
I didn’t see it when we were there.
No need as she was not a lady nore a 1st lady she was just invisible
@@lauraperea6417 oh. Thanks for more disinformation J. A!
where is Melania’s dress?
Never saw it.
Never saw it.
I don’t think they excluded Melania, I just think they haven’t gotten hers yet.
I never saw her dress. Hard to take a picture of something you didn’t see.
You did not include our most beautiful elegant first lady Mrs. Trump. What a missed opportunity.
Again, as mentioned previously, I never saw her dress.
Fun fact: Michelle Obamas shoes have her footprints in them :)
You should add Melania Trump!
As mentioned earlier, I never saw her dress.
Jacqueline Kennedy not wearing a yellow dress inaugural
In this instance they had her first state dinner dress on display. It says so on the sign before I showed the dress. They didn’t have any other dress on display for her in this exhibit.
Not surprised First Lady Melania Trump was left out.
@@kathleensue1 Again, I never saw her dress. It’s hard to take a photo of something I didn’t see. There were a lot of people there.
Too many to chose from?
No, just very crowded when we were there and the dresses were spread out. And I was trying to keep a watch on my mom who is short and easy to lose in a crowd. 😁
Some of the first ladies are missing. Most recent ones-last 2 first ladies, and I dont think the first few presidents had a ball at all.
They did have dresses there. They are not out due to lack of space.
I might have missed some. It was crowded and they were spread out.
Melania Trump’s gown was inspired by the Constitution. it was white, form-fitting, and the top had wispy chiffon. It also had a red thin sash that went around her waist. The sash represented a red ribbon tied around a rolled piece of paper, aka the Constitution. Melania is extremely patriotic.
Started watching, but when I saw Melania Trump was excluded, I turned it off.
@@skiddledede8885 It wasn’t that she was excluded. I never saw a dress for her. There were a lot of people there. It was hard enough at times to get what I did see.
@skiddledede8885 you have to understand too, there is a process the Smithsonian goes thru to get those gowns put in the right places. A lot of processes lol. If I remember correctly, she has officially donate the gown. They make a big production out of it. While Trump was in office, it should have been in the center case. And if I remember correctly, it was there. They often times have to also donate the entire ensemble. That means the shoes, jewelry, coats and purses.
@@TheEmptyArmchair that area stays crowded. If I am not mistaken, Lincoln's hat is right outside of there.
You are running the written parts and picture of the First Ladies and showing their gowns MUCH TO FAST to be read or enjoy viewing the gowns.
@@pushoverparente4947 My apologies. I was still somewhat new to doing YT video. Speed was something I was still learning.
Where is MELANIA TRUMP???????? She is why I watched this!!!! Shame on you!
Again, as mentioned numerous times in the comments, I never saw her dress. It’s hard to take a picture of something I never saw.
