I have a bootleg concert tape of a radio broadcast of their entire Miami Beach show from Spring Break 83, it is among my most treasured possessions, it is probably irreplaceable.
I did that from the All Night Album Replay and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust. I wore it out. It is just time to collect some of these recordings now that I have a little money. Divorce, ugh.
Notwithstanding recent events and all, but in this set Ann looks and sounds supremely confident as well as enjoying herself tremendously; Nancy as always: fabulous, Howard a heartthrob in black (never looked better - short hair rules) - this was what Heart was capable of.
She had so much confidence prior to '87. You can tell a huge difference in her on stage persona after '87 when she started getting all the attacks on her weight. She was always charismatic on stage, but you can tell she was less confident in 87, 90, and 93-94.
Thank you for posting this great performance. That was such a victory year in my life, passionworks was part of the sound track, love most of the somgs on the album, and they are not dressing like Primce yet. They comtinued without a pure lead guitarist. It is possible that nobody could accuratly match RogerFisher,s lead tone matchimg with the vocal tone colours of Ann Wilson
@@mojoblues66 Howard has a PRS from 78, made by Paul himself. He used to come to the Capital Center when Heart was playing there, and sold him some custom models, long before there was an actual company. Howard also owns the first maple top PRS guitar.
Soooo 80's and I am here for it! Aha. Yaa, after hearing Barracuda 4 bil times and for most of 50 yrs, i was like hmm..it's a wee bit fast. i set the player to .95x and it's spot on! The band was a lil fast on it, aha. I remember getting Passionworks. Underrated album. It was a lil lull in Hearts popularity from Dog and Butterfly, to their self titled monster hit album..Bebe Le Strange & Private Audition never caught commercial fire, either. All fabulous albums.
Denny Carmassi is a BEAST drummer!! I think Ann was really at the top of her game here! Passioworks is my fave album and the your with Kansas was amazing. Its my fave period of Heart!
I've followed this band pretty much since it's inception, and as much as I enjoyed this era and rest of the 80s/90s, nothing compares to the original band. The period between Little Queen/Magazine/Dog and Butterfly was the absolute best they ever were live. The '78 Largo tour is on RUclips and I'd encourage anyone to watch the whole thing. THAT is where the got the "Little Led Zeppelin" name from, it's magnificent from front to back. These tours from 83 through Desire Walks On were all good, but they never touched that early period. I actually thought the incarnation from the 2000s - 2010 sounded better than the 80s/90s version, certainly heavier. This 83 show was the just pre-hair metal Heart, more pop than organic rock. Still good, but check out '78 Largo.
I have a special love for 21st century Heart because I wasn't around in the 70s and too young to see them in the 80s and 90s. They kicked butt well into the 2010s
@@dupersuper6516 This actually was "80s" Heart because it had Denny Carmassi and Mark Andes which is the incarnation that produced self-titled, Bad Animals, and Brigade. Passionworks was the first album that included those two and not the original rhythm section.
@@dupersuper6516 I know what you're saying, and to me it is power ballad Heart, that's what "Allies" is. I've heard the album many times. It's the first album with the 80s Andes/Carmassi incarnation of the band and it's much closer to the music on the self-titled album than it is to Private Audition or anything earlier with very little acoustic guitar and much more pop sounding melodies. How Can I Refuse is closer to Nothin' At All than it is to Barracuda, and Allies is a classic 80s power ballad like Alone, and the first of that style they recorded. To me it doesn't sound like 70s Heart.
@@WithaJoeFro Because it's not 70s heart. This was before they were dropped from their label. "80s heart" is factually from 85-90 where they used outside writers and the hair pop formula. Passionworks was still heart from Ann and Nancy. There was the original zeppelin heart from dreamboat Annie to dog and butterfly, then there was transition heart from Bebe le strange to passionworks then there was capitol records (80s) heart which was self titled to brigade Desire walks on did not feature outside writers although the label was still capitol
I did too and what I remember most was that terrible drum sound. It basically took over their sound between 82-84. Glad they got rid of it before the 85 album.
@@WithaJoeFro that was producer Keith Olsen's influence. After Private Audition did not do too well he was responsible for "changing the recipe" had Denny use the Simmons electronic drums and was adamant No Acoustic Guitars featured prominently on that record.
@@yeldarbarrow3172 Yeah that could be, but I don't recall hearing other albums produced by Olsen sounding that bad. As far as the acoustic guitar goes, I had heard it was Ron Nevison who basically outlawed acoustic. There was no acoustic at all on the self-titled album, and only one on Bad Animals. It's been while since I listened to Passionworks, but from what I remember it seems like there are a couple of acoustic songs on the album.
Was this the record release party for that album? Seems before the Dean endorsement they had during that time. My first Heart show was NY Eve '83/'84 on this tour Dallas, Tx Reunion Arena.... Romantics opened.... but at that show Nancy was using several Dean Z-Baby's amongst her touring guitars. We were on 7th row floor. Heart had/has been my fave band ever since Little Queen/Barracuda- we were high school seniors and seeing the band for the first time was one of the most exited/pumped experiences I've ever had. Comparable to my "first time...." I lost my "Heart V-Card" and was thrilled to see them live. Seen 'em six times now.
The sound quality of this video? A little bit too much treble. As far as their performance and their music, their songs, absolutely blow my mind! This band give me pure inspiration! Love this band! I mean I absolutely love the original lineup! Heart rules! ❤❤❤
And I love this song, “Allies”. I was listening to it on vinyl the other day. Such a beautiful song. There’s really not too much I don’t like by these two! ❤❤ And Ann’s voice sounds the same Live as on her recordings. Ps I love Nancy’s voice too! I love all her songs too ! @nancywilson @annwilson

Definitely. But then that would all change once 1985 rolled around with the release of their Heart album. Crazy how things changed so much from the early 80's to the late 80's
Private Audition was sort of a departure from their mainstream sound, they performed some old Standard tunes. Artistically it stands alone from previous material, but the year in which it was released, 1982 was a truly a busy year for pop music, a montage of block buster LP's were released by newer artists, some mega stars who had been dormant for a while, released long awaited Albums which garnered megahits. Passionworls was Hearts last LP with Epic-Columbia. They would emerge in 1985 on Capitol Records and score a tripple platinum release with "What about Love"
Thanks for the background that makes sense.... it seemed a bit "odd" like it was a made for tv concert. Crowd cheers seemed artificial and when I saw that tour they opened with "Sleep Alone." Romantics were touring with them. Dallas, Tx NY Eve '83/'84.
After "How Can I Refuse" Ann says to the audience "thanks for coming back...really". Any idea what she meant? Was she talking about fans that they had lost coming back?
Sleep Alone sounds like a song fragment to me....it has a couple of verses then the last two minutes is just instrumental and Ann wailing. It's a great song but feels incomplete.

Not 100% sure, but I believe this performance from heart it's from a show called Rock Palace, a syndicated rock show like Don kirshner's Rock concert. It may have aired on MTV at some point, but I'm pretty sure the origin is from The Rock Palace TV show. That show I don't think was widely syndicated across the u.s., I never really saw or heard of it when it was on, only learned about it much later, so there were probably a lot of markets where it wasn't airing. It looks to have been filmed at the Palladium in Los Angeles by the way
Very very Best , heart Is wonderfull
