Ben Pickering if you're making money shooting video then that shouldn't be a huge factor but If you're concerned that much just get an XT-4 and save money by not buying full frame glass

Ben Pickering it depends really...just saying that there are lots of options depending on what you want to do but if your trying to save a lot of money than the S5 probably isn't for you either. Have you taken a look at L mount lens prices lately? Besides, last I checked 2500x2 is 5000 not 3500 ;)

FF 10-bit + Dual ISO for $2k! Great for indy film makers.
However most RUclipsrs are more interested into reliable AF because they'd rather shoot slo-mo b-roll lol

Who needs autofocus when you do dual manual focus with an anamorphic setup
While the autofocus is not as fast as the A7III with moving subjects, the advantage of DFD is a better and sharper picture with less banding and ghosting. Give me the S5 anytime!

Nice review! For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the IBIS while walking around should actually work better with "Boost I.S." turned off? As least on the other Panasonic cameras I own, there's a similar option that basically turns the camera into a handheld tripod, but it's kind of jumpy if you try to move around with that setting turned on.
As for me, I'm still holding out for a GH6. C'mon Panasonic!

I have noticed here and other channels that use the a7siii that it’s the first Sony camera who’s footage actually looks good. I’m a big fan of v-log as I prefer it over any of the Sony logs. I think this was a fair review. Over the years if Panasonic had even a Canon level autofocus they would have owned this market.
Really interested in this camera. Waiting to see what Sony announces next week but if all the rumors of the a7c are true, might be picking up the S5.
There's not a lot of them but the new mirrorless specific lenses from Sigma for L and E Mounts are FANTASTIC!! The 24-70 and 14-24 are great and the new 85 is really small. Still waiting on more wide primes thought.
In the UK today the A7Siii is £3795. The S5 is £1399. Do you honestly believe the Sony is worth 2.7x the S5, £2396 more? Yep the Siii is better, the S5 is by a country mile the best value camera out there right now and has specs worth more than x2 the price.
Also the S5 is a far better stills camera.

At the price point it is a pretty impressive camera. I would consider getting one alongside my G9 and just using adapted manual lenses on it. Grab the 21mm f1.8 voigtlander, one of their super fast 50mm lenses and a nice fast 85mm and I'd have a setup almost identical to what I use on my g9. Normally I wouldn't consider the FF option as much, but since this
1. Has panasonics design language and ergonomics/layouts
2. Has 5 stops of IBIS
3. Has a dual native ISO sensor,
It might actually be able to offer enough quality difference to at least make it worth testing. Still it can't replace my m43 system. The option to scale my m43 setup to just an insanely miniscule package is something this can't match at all.
Me: so it's a $2,000 camera.
Panasonic: no, it less than $2,000.
Me: How much less?
Panasonic: $2.01
Me: So it's a $2,000 camera.

If you are just getting into videography, this is without doubt the best bang for the buck in the hybrid space. The Panasonic and Leica lens options are on the steep side, but I believe Sigma offer quality options at prices competitive with other mounts. Other lesser known lens manufacturers such as Viltrox also seem to be putting out some L mount lenses now.
If you are a M43 user or user of another brand full frame mirrorless who uses predominantly adapted EF lenses, then I think this camera is a total no brainer. L-mount eco system will fill out in time, in the meantime it really is a lesser issue.
If you are an M43 user using predominantly native M43 glass, or already using another full frame mirrorless with their native glass, just no way this makes sense. Sony in particular will sow this full frame segment up I think.
Panasonic seriously needs to tend to their M43 garden. There are loads of hybrid camera users who just do not benefit enough from the particular full frame advantages to justify/create the desire for the cost, size or weight of the shift.
@@OK-jn4wn Used GH5 wouldn't be a bad choice for sure, but depends on requirement and local markets. A total testiment to how awesome the GH5 is, but where I am a used GH5 (body only with a few batteries) still goes for $1500. With the free Sigma 45mm f/2.8 (a $750 lens where I am) promo going with the S5 for launch, it makes the difference between a used GH5 and a new S5 at $2700 pretty compelling, especially given the S5 comes with full v-log.

I'm looking at this for my next camera. I *want* an A7S3 but at $3500 body only and them glass it's an expensive option.
Constant comparisons of the S5 to the A7S3 is like comparing a Mustang to a Corvette. Sure they're similar and appeal to similar people but comparisons aren't fair.

S5 is so good for many resons and I really dont get the Sony hipe at all. I hate their menu interface and the polarisation-like bakgrounds as in Gerald Undones former studio. Even their autofocus is not so great.I baught two S5 this spring and two Sigma converter mc-21 for Canon F lenses until more lenses arrives together with the kit lens, 20-60 mm. I will also keep my GH5. Focus moore on what you are doing instead. Ok they don't have sportlenses but for that case, buy Canon. S5 is not a sport- camera. Its a very good hybrid camera with video as the main target. A tru global shutter is what every one needs to have soon or buy Fuji instead in that case.
The AF is fine most of the time and with tweaks it’s very flexible and easy to change on the fly but for the average vlogger it might be frustrating sometimes. But most of the time it’s pretty reliable. I’ve not experienced any camera to have totally reliable AF.
The S5 has so many other plus points as a hybrid camera that outweigh the negatives

Yeah, which is like $1500 dollars plus more expensive? Sure.
You suggest that this is an upgrade to the g9...but the g9 has a better grip, better evf, also has double sd card slots, the top screen, doesn't crop in 4k 60p (with a speedbooster and the same lens you would have a wider field of view with the g9 than you would with the S5), the g9 has a full size HDMI, the g9 has better stabilization, higher framerates in burst modes, and offers a larger buffer too. It also has the high rez mode which the s5 doesn't. Oh the g9 has more function buttons too and the little flash sync port as well.
Other than the better AF and larger sensor how exactly is the S5 an upgrade? I guess there is the 5.9k prores raw, so yeah there is that. But outside of those three features it's actually a worse camera in practically every way compared to the G9. Rather than a watered down s1h it's more like a slightly crippled full frame gh5
I am actually a G9 owner, I shoot music videos with it. The crop in 4k50p is the biggest drawback for me with the S5. Damn!
Would love to hear more about the G9 as a music video tool. (PS... I love my G9!)

Still great because it has a good autofocus in 1080p and I find it okay since there's someone has R5 and shooting 1080p for his RUclips videos.

IBIS boost is made for static shots. It's like having a tripod. That's where your wobble comes from.
The *only* thing and I mean *only* thing holding me back from 7S3 is 12MP stills. I have a 12 yr old Nikon D700 covering all my 12MP image needs.

I dont understand, you buy the SIII for the video, not the photo. And if 12 MP covers your photo needs, than this is actually a pro argument to buy this camera.
Our Boring Suburban Home, in skateboarding (and snowboarding, etc) goofy-footed is right foot in front / left foot in back.
I think it would be fun to have 12 MP stills in the a7siii - also I don’t care that that’s low because it makes the low light amazing

How the S5 IBIS perform in video with long lenses like a 85mm or the 100-400mm Sigma (for static handheld shots) ? The A7III IBIS is very bad with the 85mm GM.
It is very good IBIS! Probably some of the best for full frame out there.

Is the One Wheel some videographer thing? Peter McKinnon, Matti Haapoja, Jesse Driftwood, etc. They all post videos of them using these things and yet I've never seen a single person IRL actually use one.

The technology in this camera is great but the autofocus can only get better with time . Plus January sales coming in the new year it will go down too a better price.

Good camera. BUT than I saw the insane high prices of the lenses. Panasonic 1.4 50mm 1900 euros. Canon ef 50mm 1.4 only 150 euros. What's that? I need at least 3 or 4 lenses for a new setup. So it would cost me 10.000 euro of each lens cost 2.000. Thats insane. I will wait for Sony a7c

Great idea. The GH5 is still an incredible camera. Maybe when things slow down we can do a video about it! They are super affordable now. Maybe we should compare it to the S5!? Would you be interested in that?

I wanted something even more professional and since Zv1 isn't an interchangeable lens I was going towards the gh5. But now I saw this video. So yeah a comparison will help ! Thanks!

4K Full Frame 4:2:2 is an advantage. Calling that just a technical detail is like saying "what advantage does the 1DXii have over a T2i and dont mention technical details." The technical details are what make this an upgrade.
180fps. ProRes raw. Better AF. Dual native iso. Better low light than the GH5S. Tweaked color science to match proper V-Log. Better dynamic range. Better IBIS. Smaller and lighter than the GH5.

I'd compare the GH5 to the BMPCC4K and this one to the BMPCC6K. So the offered lenses are comparable.

I use 2 systems at this time. Canon and Panasonic. They are older models that I will continue to use (Canon 80d and SL2 and Panasonic 85's) I film my music students auditions and performances and do some of my daughters vlog and storybook readings. I want to upgrade to get a camera with 120 fps on it and after much study I'm going for the Olympia M1 Mark 3. I have a plethora of lenses for my Panasonic camera's. I use my 85's for long static shoots. They are great for that, but really desire micro 4/3rd with great IBIS and a better focusing system than what this new Panasonic has come up with. Do you think the Olympus M1 Mark 3 is a good choice? Thanks much Dave and Many Blessings, Bryn👍🏾😊
Currently, this camera costs about half the cost of an A7Siii. A7C would be a better shoot out now.

You not gonna get prores raw out of hdmi....You gonna get raw information over hdmi which can be captured with external device ....and that external device need to be able capturing prores raw.

The AF is shocking - especially when subject moving towards the camera or in low light. Not reliable IMO.
me watching this with a single lumix g7 like 👁👄👁 but fr i need some encouragement i'm 15 and easily get caught up in equipment and specs
With this on the market, the Sony a7 IV needs to be amazing when it comes to video. Not a7S III level, but almost.
At a minimum, it needs:
- Full-frame 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 internal with no crop
- 4K 60p
- 1080p 120p with no crop
- Real-time tracking autofocus (the a7C and a6600 have it, so the a7 IV should too)
- Improved rolling shutter performance
- The menu system from the a7s III
- Fully articulating screen
- Improved IBIS
If Sony wants to put a cherry on top:
- RAW output
- Full-size HDMI output
- Better weather sealing
- Waveforms and vectorscopes

That super35 crop is what kills it for me and pushed me away from the S1H. No good way to get super wide angle without an MC-21 and Rokinon 10mm.
