I really enjoyed your video. Great to hear a different point of view. I have an S5ii but I’m thinking about getting a second camera for permanently mounting the Panasonic 16mm -35mm f4 lens. I’ve heard the focus is better on wide lenses? Any thoughts. Thanks
Great cameras. I bought an S1R this year and recommend it for landscape studio fashion. Or more. Adapts lenses v well and sensor is great for my needs.
I bought the S5 in November 2022 for about 1800 USD in kit with 20-60mm and 50mm. Only few months before the s5II was launched, so I was pretty mad... but then last November there was an amazing BF deal + Panasonic own cashback, where you could get s5II body for about 1300 USD. Now I use both of them for photography and even for video - s5 as a second cam on events and wedding shoots, usually it sits on a tripod with some wider lens. AF on s5 with lumix 1.8 primes is usable, as you said in the video (tested on 18,50,85). I actually love working with 1.8 S series primes on gimbal, since you don´t have to rebalance after switching between them. I cant wait for a panasonic fullframe body with no crop in 4k50 tho! (Maybe S1H mark II soon, fingers crossed)
I just shot a feature film using the s5, and it became an award-winning film. To me, other than autofocus, this is the best deal out there of any camera on the market. And I actually disagree with you about autofocus, I never use it, all of my lenses are vintage lenses, and so autofocus for me is not part of my workflow. But I understand why some people like it, but for me it's meaningless. So the s5, and the fact that you could get it for $800 pretty much everywhere, is unmatched in terms of a quality hybrid camera for anyone from hobbyists to professionals.
when you dont use it, than it cannot be an issue. F.e. Using it as a stand alone shooter who also need to shoot myself, I also needed to learn properly setting up the manual but the workflow suffers and its not enjoyable. Especially when you miss it and you need to do it again after 20mminutes recording... different cases, different needs
Hi Jan, I do not agree about the auto focus issues of the S5. I have the S5 and paired it with the lumix 16-35mm S-Pro as well with the 70-200 S -Pro and the auto focus is , ok a bit slow but spot on all the time! And if I want to make something special I always use some old vintage glass with the traditional manual focus and focus peaking. Spot on as well!
@janborscreative it's not as quick for sure, but as far as tracking goes and keeping you in focus it works almost as well as sonys eye detection. Would also like to add that when you shoot in aspc mode the focusing is actually faster than the sony 7aiii 🤣 as insane as that sounds i can find a video for u to refer to
@nyrubin for sure, if you're buying camera that age, this is a perfect choice but I have both mark1 and mark2 and the difference and especialy reliability is uncomparable
@janborscreative absolutely agree with you, I just have the mark 1. But always delta with panasonics slow auto focus since the gh4 then gh5. Really wanted the the mark 2x but can't afford to buy cameras any longer 🤣. I being able to record ti an external ssd. I started to buy v60 sd cards for the panasonic s5 and dji action cameras just because of the transfer speeds, I don't like to transfer the files over to my pc or phone I tend to edit directly off the cards
Yeah, this was a tough one for me as well. I ended up going with the S9 over the original S5 and honestly I have no regrets. Yes, the S9 has a record limitation versus the 30 minutes on the S5 but I’m not really concerned at that level. The S9 is surprisingly an extremely fun every day carry camera. I also put the Atomos Ninja V on top of the S9 to use as an additional camera angle for Long Takes so it’s like having multiple cameras in one. Honestly this whole S Line Series is great tech.
@@janborscreative Agreed… I had 10 L-Mount Lenses already for Event Shooting so I didn’t have to fret over that. The S Primes like the 35 f/1.8 and 85 f/1.8 are pure gold on the S9. Also I use the Sigma 16-28 & 28-70 on Hybrid Zoom giving me 16-218mm f/2.8 with just two lenses.
Ahoj super video, kdybys měl na výběr si vybrat mezi Sony a7III a S5 co bys vybral ? Jsem právě v téhle situaci a nevím. Chtěl bych hybrida tak nějak na všechno.
As great as the s5ii is, i wish the reviewers that are reviewing new L mount lenses talk about the autofocus on the original s5 and s1h, as theyve still got a sizeable userbase
Well, the autofocus in this system is bad. Simply is. It can work but nowadays camera dont have this - they simply work. The workflow difference worth it. So S5 - with any lenses is not even close and than if a little bit faster or not, its irelevant
S5 and ninja v, proress RAW. Beats even mighty sony a7sIII. Highlight rolloff is really best of the any mirrorless camera. I been shooting sony, canon, nikon. This is the main dog with RAW video. I dont use AF anyway so for 900$ brainless buy.

Hello, I have a S5 with Lumix S-PRO lenses, I shoot only stills, I'm happy with this camera and my next will be a S1-R (or a S5-R if any). Cheers

that must happen in next "MARKS" of anything regarding the brand. Imo S1H2 will have 4K100 No crop

I really love the aesthetics of the video
thx!!!
starting camera? bro its a super duper camera i have 2 and wont be buying anything else for a long time
well for me it was a first camera, and I know what issues and what joy I had with it :)
My starting camera is a S5 II X, and I'm glad I didn't start with a S5 after watching this video 😅
this was helpful thanks!
cool!!

when you have in the hands a proper one, you could not say it. Also in video especially even from my experience. Its technology which has its limits
If you turn on the face detect it works really well
its no compare with phase af anyway, huge difference

I kinda like S9 concept a lot, just the price is crazy imo, especially when you need to rly buy lens to it

no brainer!
What’s the best video settings for this camera for outdoor shooting?
depends on what you want to shoot, imo there is no universal best setting

the first one does not, but never overheated
