To answer your question, I think these vehicles are finally serious about competing directly with the Germans. The price difference for the feature content one receives has always been a hallmark of the Genesis brand, but they still left a lot to be desired. Now, we are inching closer to what the stalwarts of the Rhineland have given their customers for decades; design, refinement and power. My hope in the next redesign, is that Genesis gives the G70 a slightly larger back seat..... These two vehicles are worthy of a serious look though.
The G-80 looks elegant and also athletic and does not look like a OLD MANS CAR. I also like the design elements and yes the roof line of the vehicle that allows plenty of head room along with the wonderful glass area that melds the entire vehicle design to not look like a "committee" designed it and plenty of light with the addition of MOVEABLE shading of the side windows, the rear glass with a shade and yes the glass roof to honestly not need any added TINTING to reduce my vision especially at night. I also like the touch to add soft material to rest the side of my leg on with my foot on the gas pedal, even when in cruise control. I am not a fan of oversized front grills, but on this vehicle it "sparkles" to add to the character of the vehicle and breaks it up with the addition of the license plate that I hope can also be designed to look like it is another design element of the grill. Most importantly the wonderful design elements that comes across in perfection of the wrap around headlamps and going the extra yard with fog lamps perfectly placed. I believe this vehicle "nailed it" with its design that allows you to identify your vehicle in a parking lot, but also have other vehicle owners to come over and like to see more of it up close. Job well done. Peter Gold, Professional Inventor.

Looks great Ryan. The big question..."How many G70 with the manual transmission will the GV80 boot off the Genesis lot?" Not that Genesis sales people can put "G70" and "manual" in the same sentence, but it would be nice to know that walking onto a Genesis lot there would be at least one G70 with a manual. The GV80 looks the part, but I'm having a hard time with that steering wheel and the overly light colored interior, but then again, I'm more of a Telluride person anyways.. Is the GV80 worth $20k more than the (lesser) top-shelf trim siblings?
"I haven't seen this many quilted surfaces since I visited by grandmother's house..." (4:10). YES! Thank you. For some reason Hyundai and Genesis believe that quilted surfaces spell "luxury." They put them on all their luxury vehicles and the upper trims of their mainstream vehicles. But like you, they remind me of the sofa in my grandmother's living room from 50 years ago! A touchpad for entering navigation directions that "works pretty good"? (5:40) Let me guess. You're not a southpaw, right? Trying to write with my right hand index finger even when stopped would be torture. Of course, we left handed folks are accustomed to discrimination from manufacturers catering to "northpaws" but what about the folks in countries with the driver's seat on the right? Guess they'll learn what it feels like for us Southpaws in the US and most other nations. Furthermore, there's the "Sounds of Nature" that KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis are spreading like peanut butter over their lineups. Who in God's name thought this was a good idea? Why would I want the sound of rain piped into the cabin on a dry day? Or the sound of snowshoes crunching outside my vehicle as I'm driving? What does the babbling conversation of other diners at an outside cafe have to do with the "Sounds of Nature"? "Calm Sea Waves"? Is the idea to put a driver to sleep while sitting in gridlock? From my experience there's already too much driver napping going on. And then there's the self-parking party trick available on the Genesis and some Hyundai vehicles. I've long thought that the automated parallel parking system on my GTI was the most worthless feature I could imagine.(If you can't parallel park a GTI, you shouldn't be allowed to own one.) I was wrong. The silly feature in my GTI pales in comparison to the automatic insertion/extraction parking feature for tight parking spaces. Why would I want to insert my expensive vehicle in a space so tight that I couldn't open the doors? Am I hoping for dents? It makes a little more sense for extracting my vehicle when an a**hole has parked his gigantic vehicle next to me. But explosive sledgehammers in the doors that could move the offending vehicles a foot or so away is a much better idea (imo). Enough carping. Even though the "luxury" may be slightly less convincing and some of the technology questionable, the G80 and GV80 are beautiful vehicles that present a compelling value proposition compared to their rivals. I won't be shopping for either one but I am intrigued by the decision to put a 2.5L turbo engine in each as the base engine. It's the same engine (with varying tuning) found in the KIA K5 and Hyundai Sorento performance models and available in the KIA Sorento SUV. I've long been skeptical about the durability of small displacement turbos in vehicles with curb weights over 2 tons (e.g. Explorer, CX-5, Ascent) but if Genesis is prepared to make that choice while offering a 10 year/100K mile warranty, I'm somewhat reassured.
Funnily enough, a few of the things you listed are reasons why I am actually interested in getting a GV80. I'm going to have to replace the family beater cayenne soon, and after years of stressful BMW/Mercedes ownership, I don't think I can trust any competitors outside of lexus, porsche, tesla, and genesis. Never really was one for brandnames, and at the pricepoint that Genesis operates at, I can feel pretty comfortable "downgrading" to a gv80. I never had a grandmother with quilted sofas, so I really enjoy the whole quilted leather trend we are seeing in the luxury car market. Coming from a model 3 and an elderly 911 interior, quilted leather just makes me feel so fancy :). While I would lust after an explosive sledgehammer feature, I use the self park feature on the tesla pretty much every day to get the car in and out of my crazy tight garage and down my urethra sized driveway (one of the main reasons I bought the car). I am a privileged right hander, so I cant really comment on the whole iPod dial interface they are using (I can only imagine the struggles of backwards letters and 1st grader legibility). I must agree that the sounds of nature thing is pretty wack. I have no idea why they include it, but I might just play it for my passengers to get a little laugh. Unfortunately small displacement turbo 4's seem like they are gonna be sticking around for a while now, so I can only hope for the best when it comes to longterm reliability. That said, I must admit that the 3.5 turbo v6 is looking pretty tasty to me. I can't definitively say that it will be my next SUV until I get to drive the thing. But for now, it seems that Genesis has finally built a highly competitive machine and not just a cheaper one.
@@jarodkim5885 Have to agree with your conclusion. With a daughter soon off to college luxury SUV's aren't on my shopping list but if I were in the market I'd look closely at the GV80.
Definitely not a Mercedes or BMW. Lots of great features and a decent motor. Still a top of the line BMW or Mercedes in this class would be much more fun to drive with a lot more power. Gotta start somewhere so I'm sure these cars will only get better.

As of September 2020 I still can’t even SEE one in the Seattle area. Not a 2020 or a 2021 G80. I have a 2018 G90 coming up to lease end and I can’t get either one of these. Epic Fail Genesis.
I just do not get it, it is like arguing 5000$ Casio watch is better than a 5200$ Rolex or Omega just because Casio has calculator built in! The Merc or BMW has earned that prestige through decades of excellence in performance and luxury. You cannot simply jack up prices on a Korean car (even with nice leather and a respectable engine) and expect it to be in very close price range. To me it is not even remotely in same class as a merc or BMW. I am not superficial and badge is not everything to me. I just bought a 2020 V6 TLX because it is 90% of 330i or A4 but I am paying almost 50-60% of what Audi or BMW would have charged me. I totally understand TLX is no where fun or luxurious as a German car but to me it is not worth paying twice as much. I think Genesis should do the same thing, keep the price 50-60% of a German equivalent and you have a winner. If I was going to spend 1000$ CAD/month on a lease I would take the German prestige and performance rather than getting an Acura or Genesis. But when I pay 550$ a month for my v6 Aspec TLX I am very pleased because it is fully loaded and is arguably more fun than a boring turbo 4 in A4 or 330i
If my buddy told me he had a Hyundai GV80 parked in my driveway, I'd say "great" and finished drinking my beer. But, if he said his new Mercedes AMG GLE 53 was parked there, I'd drop that beer, jump out my seat and say "where is it, can I drive it!".
Don't be deceived by its looking. The quality is far behind other luxury brands. This car has a serious vibration defect around 1500 RPM. This has been few months since its launch in Korea. But Hyundai keeps silence which makes many owners upset. More and more GV80 owners become crazy with this stupid vibration issue. Furthermore, other problems has occurred as time goes by. DON'T BUY IT NOW!
To be honest with you, wireless car play in my BMW is terrible. I’ll park the car in my garage and the WiFi will still be connected. I much prefer the simpler cable which will also charge my phone.
I wouldn’t buy this POS... Genesis/Hyundai/Kia as a whole company have extreme engine & transmission problems in their own Korean market. Cars are catching on fire. Cars are shutting off at highway speeds. Put it in reverse and it goes forward. That’s just the beginning. Just look at their previous offerings. They had to offer lifetime powertrain warranty because their engine&trans is absolute shit and shouldn’t have been sold to public. They love to beta test their product on consumers. Don’t ever buy this brand.

I’d really would like to know what are you comparing this to.
Nice Car .
Please buy a lot of Korean cars, not German cars.
They're nice but Idk if nice enough to buy over its competitors for that price range
The GV80 looks like the GTA V version of the Bentley bentayga
He's complaining about a lot of unnecessary 🙄 stuff. Quilting, Gauge and simple stuff thats not even noticeable. There also in things SUV's the Navigator. This would be 150,000 if the name badges were changed to Merc or BMW. Even the scroll wheel, and I've watched many reviews that have said the opposite and about its Quality
But when I pay 550$ a month for my v6 Aspec TLX I am very pleased because it is fully loaded and is arguably more fun than a boring turbo 4 in A4 or 330i
I like g80 more than gv 80
No optional V/8 . I'll keep my '18 G80 5.0 Htrac. I don't care how Much tech it has
All I heard is a lot of nitpicking. Awful review.

If my buddy told me he had a Hyundai GV80 parked in my driveway, I'd say "great" and finished drinking my beer. But, if he said his new Mercedes AMG GLE 53 was parked there, I'd drop that beer, jump out my seat and say "where is it, can I drive it!".
wow gv80 is up than x5.gle
Yeah but in korea there are few cases it caught in fire while driving
they copied ipod control design...
Amazing car.... horrible reviewer. In a rush
No wireless carplay? Thats embarrassing man.
To be honest with you, wireless car play in my BMW is terrible. I’ll park the car in my garage and the WiFi will still be connected. I much prefer the simpler cable which will also charge my phone.
No way in hell I would waste my money on a pile of shit like Hyundai!!! MB AMG all the way!!!
KIA and Hyundai should not make cars that cost more than 50G’s,your videos are the best👍🏼👍🏼
Carlos Rivera why not....Toyota,Honda,Nissan do
Ebonix33 reliability!
