Changing the multipliers on US and RU DD Def AA from 3x to 4x is probably the single most unnecessary buff in the game since they buffed RU DD HE damage. Why not improve the AA on select ships instead of this stupid blanket change? No idea, but at least Kidd is stupidly hilarious now.
One wonders why the DDs with DF got buffed over the DDs without DF. Arguably those DDs are the ones that would need some assistance against planes, not the ones with DF. Oh well... Btw, you did get help from the CV in that ruining of planes in the middle. The value of of it is debatable, but a fighter was there and it did chase bombers.

No point in playing a cv much past maybe 6 for operations only. It's not rewarding, the ui is trash, the balance is trash, and it's just not fun. Doesnt make much sense buying a dd that it's gimmick is anti aa where, at least on the na server, cvs are the dodo bird of randoms.
@blaze the timberwolf CV situation is old problems dating back to beta/alpha being exacerbated by the addition of things like this. Finicky UI makes it hard to get things done sometimes, such as manual attacks. Add onto this a growing trend for weakening carriers because of idiot's who don't know the class demanding nerfs, and what you get is a CV population shrinkage on an already small population. New players don't really want to get into them because of the high skill ceiling, so what you get is a few elites that people complain about.
It's interesting to see this vid, I got the Kidd as soon as it was available (love the Sims, and US DD play style in general), and having taken it out quite a few times I quickly worked out that this thing was just plain OP. So I went to the forums expecting to see plenty of threads from CV captains in particular complaining about it. Nothing on NA/SEA/EU forums or reddit. I was pretty surprised because I was making CV captains lives absolutely miserable. A 3/0/1 Saipan flew his bomber squad up to a cap I had aggressively pushed through, I popped def AA just before he hit my plane spotting range of 3.3km, all 9 (tier 9!) planes were shot down before he could get them out of the bubble. He then tried a straight in and out drop while I was spotted, lost four on the way in and five on the way out (no hits). I was pushing a flank in another match when a Shokaku was pushing both torp squads around the fringes, opened up just before he spotted me, both squads dead in less than 10s. He didn't have time to do a thing. Even in non-CV games this ship is superb. The effective health is just massive for a US style DD. Plus I surprisingly still got plenty of torp hits (I think because they are pretty stealthy torps). The ship is a monster in the hands of anyone with a skill level of just above average or higher.

Does anyone remember how OP the Grozevoi AA was when it was in testing and everyone got excited that a DD could rip through planes like that, and they nerfed the hell out of it. Wonder why they didn't follow their same thought pattern with the Kidd, oh yeah the Kidd is a premium, that's right, whereas the Grozevoi was just a progression ship. Smart WG, very dastardly of you.
flamu these were tier 8 fighters... btw i would never focus an AA DD with defensive fire on as its just stupid. if i REALLY want him dead, ill bait his DFAA and strike when its out for a decent chance. however if i see better targets ill just focus them. also vs an AP BB i would NOT angle so much. it would be MUCH better to show more side AND to try to dodge like slowing down suddenly or just before u expect him to shoot.

Kutu is still strong, but you can actually spot it with DD relativelly easily (outside your own detection range) when firing from smoke. Got a 3-man kutu division completely blapped by spotting them in gallant the other day..... oh the rage. Belfast still screws you sideways thought.......

Try this now with the CV rebuild and let’s see how good this DD is with against two CV’s in an upper tier match with radar cruisers. It’s good in T8 with T6 CV’s, but anything else is agonizing. Might the life of a DD player now, but WG needs to buff DD AA. Forget IJN DD’s in the game. Some matches I don’t even see DD’s now.
Thanks for another great vid. I have 19 point captains on Farragut, Benson & Fletcher. I’m thinking about putting this captain build on Farragut. Least benefit from Survivability Expert or Torp Arm Expertise. Plus torment mid-Tier CVS with C-hull and Sims. Make sense?

Utterly random factoid: during the Battle of Okinawa, USS Kidd was part of a division with another DD called the USS Black. Which I hear is another DD that is absurdly powerful in World of Warships.
Hey Flamu, Have you tried removing AFT and getting survivability expert and priority target? The aa damage is still strong sacrificing though the aa range and priority target can help in situations you need to play more aggressive taking advantage the heal kidd has.
The taihou in this video was using tier 8 planes, not tier 9 as flamu said, btw. Seems like a stock taihou given that his air superiority skill was not retrained yet, too.
I will very much agree with you on the Battleship AP thing: I mean not that WG cares (clearly) but from a historical perspective it doesn't make sense either. The only reason USS Johnston took any damage from Japanese battleship AP off Samar is because a 14in shell from Kongo happened to hit the mounting for one of the turbines...which was about the only thing on a Fletcher with enough heavy metal to arm the fuse on an AP round. As it is, though, most of the damage to Taffy 3's escorts came either from the secondary batteries on the BBs (5.5 and 6.1in rounds) or after the BBs and CAs finally got HE in the powder trains. I can see the argument for 6in AP being useful against DDs to some extent...its a fairly small round that doesnt need much to arm the fuse. but beyond that...hell no! I mean I'll admit that I shoot AP at destroyers in my battleships, but half the time that's because its what I have loaded (and I hate doing the ammo dance in a BB, where you constantly seem to have the wrong shell in. I know I SHOULD switch ammo more often I just don't oftentimes). I guess my point is, it's hard to shake the feeling that WG is pandering to the battleships when they continuously seem to try and make like a living hell for the two most effective counters to a battleship...Carriers and DDs.
How are plane kills figured into XP earning? I had a monster XP result in North Carolina a while back and the game wasn't that special but I shot down 37 Midway planes.
Earlier today, I faced a Saipan player who I'm 100% sure is far more superior from me (from #1 clan in Asia, has a waaay much better K/D ratio and win rate than I am) But there was a Kidd in my team and he said "just send your planes to me if you need air defense". Result : We won Me In a Hiryuu : 1 kill Saipan : 0 kill, got totally denied by the Kidd

Also, AA properties and normal gun properties are NOT connected together at all ... it is an unfortunate fact that anything buffing low caliber guns also has AA bufs, but that is about all there is to it .... so having dual purpose armament does not do anything in regard to AA properties other than having another set of AA guns. example: Minotaur ... AFT will not increase your main armament range in non-AA mode ...

The mechanics change is kind of idiotic as is, but disproportionately affects non-premium ships over premium ones.
The statement I replied to was not how and what, but that they don't nerf premiums. The fact that the premium cruisers were so effected by the smoke nerf prompted them to offer refunds to the owners of the ship. But she just isn't, Akizuki will still be the queen of destroyer hunting and sudden encounters. You give up SO much on this ship for that heal, just like you give up SO much on the Akizuki for those amazing guns which completely annihilate any DD at your tier and that massive hit pool. The real potential of the Kidd is hardly seen because on the whole carriers are not seen all too often whereas there will always be some DD's for that Japanese gunboat to bully and feast on.

Hes talking not about it not being realistic but about it being bad for the gameplay because you either got brit BB drivers who sit there all day HE and than you got the rest that never fires a single HE shell or knows when to change ammo because they dont need it, its a bade design so brainless idiots will even oneshot a DD without any thinking
AP shells also do full damage in the rare case that it hits the DD after striking water first (which activates the fuse). TBH 90% of people whining about battleships have no idea how to play their class. They do things like flamu did in this video, engaging a battleship with gunfire at less than 10km. The battleship shoots you in the face and you probably die, what did you think was going to happen? Same with cruisers who whine about battleships all day yet continue to sail in straight lines.
Late to the party, but who has a captain that you could run this build with...? Its not going to be the skill spec you run on your us dd captain... you might consider retraining him for comp play, but even then it's so specific unless you run in five with cv's alot... still fun to watch...👌
Flamu if you look at your video again, enemy cv has stock planes. not much difference (prob a few hundred hp difference) but just saying that the enemy planes are actually t8, not t9 like you say in the video.

EU has more carrier drivers than NA, for some odd reason. How does this DD perform in a T10 match if there are no planes? My opinion: it performs like a crippled Benson with a heal...
Actually with the constant threat by Radar, I really prefer to go to open areas in my DD. Otherwise Radar Cruisers just hug some island where they never can be shot at and constantly radar the caps aka DD graveyards and earning XP for spotting damage.
And here I was loving carriers all last year, and this is what WG does to bone me up the arse for picking it. Oh well, still do decently enough with German BBs.
While you're completely correct, that wasn't my question. I asked if it's worth it. That means different things to different people. Besides there are plenty of brain dead premiums. Gremy, Nikolai, Albert, etc.
Then no one would ever know if something is worth for anyone else, right? I mean, if I'm some kind of collector, even if I play very poorly with DDs, I'd still think it's worth to buy the Kidd. Even Prinz Eugen is worth the money that way. Personally I'm only after ships that are both fun to play and historically significant. So I think Kidd is worth for me.
I was mostly referring to the Defensive AA Fire buff that US and German ships got. But the fact that the Kidd has better AA than many HIGHER tier cruisers is also pretty fucking stupid.
Wargaming is just playing 4D chess on removing the Carriers. They are purging the CV player base to an absolute zero so nobody complains about it getting removed.

no its not bad design that he used AP against you its your control of your ship by not giving him full side shots on you which would have given his shots overpens. Both times you gave him the length of your ship for his shots to crit you. For someone who says hes and "expert" on the game you first took on a BB with your guns at close range instead of staying hiding and torping him and then you criticize WG for BB dmg against a DD which has1/8th the health pool. So basically your saying you want DD dmg from a BB against a DD when a DD is engaged in a gun fight against a BB.
Too bad gearing AA spec is very annoying too play.. I had great games but the schoolbus handling and speed really makes it suffer.. Benson Kidd Fletcher all have good rudder and turn circles so at least there AA isnt a handicap so much.. Gearing guns still great tho as long they don't get crippled

Even my Atlanta's AA looks weak compared to this Kidd, I rarely get that many plane kills, but it could just be that CV's try to avoid all Atlantas. Looks like CV players will have to add Kidd's to their "hands off" list.
cruisers gets powerful heal. dds gets hydro, radar and now excellent AA. bbs gets super powerful HE and almost impossible to citadel. Hidden shooting and now smoke mechanic completely reworked. Roles of ships are completely reversed. Carriers gets the long stick of beating and not included in clan warfare. Yeah wows are changing in strange and unpredictable ways. New premiums are often copy-cats which are OP versions of very gold ingame ships and when released nerfed, after preview videos are released. Somehow Im not confident in buying things from them anymore. /old closed beta bugger

Seeing you shoot at ranges with ~SEVENTEEN seconds flight time, was a good reminder, why one usually doesn't take AFT on US DDs.

I may take flak for this..but i feel like an over penn from say a 16 inch american gun would do damage...because that is a 16inch hole the is in one side,,went through the ship,,and now there is a 16 inch hole on the other side..sooo..am i wrong?
Hes talking not about it not being realistic but about it being bad for the gameplay because you either got brit BB drivers who sit there all day HE and than you got the rest that never fires a single HE shell or knows when to change ammo because they dont need it, its a bade design so brainless idiots will even oneshot a DD without any thinking

AP shells also do full damage in the rare case that it hits the DD after striking water first (which activates the fuse). TBH 90% of people whining about battleships have no idea how to play their class. They do things like flamu did in this video, engaging a battleship with gunfire at less than 10km. The battleship shoots you in the face and you probably die, what did you think was going to happen? Same with cruisers who whine about battleships all day yet continue to sail in straight lines.

Late to the party, but who has a captain that you could run this build with...? Its not going to be the skill spec you run on your us dd captain... you might consider retraining him for comp play, but even then it's so specific unless you run in five with cv's alot... still fun to watch...👌

Flamu if you look at your video again, enemy cv has stock planes. not much difference (prob a few hundred hp difference) but just saying that the enemy planes are actually t8, not t9 like you say in the video.

When you see BB AP salvo coming in a DD give him broadside so it only overpens, much less damage that way...
Actually with the constant threat by Radar, I really prefer to go to open areas in my DD. Otherwise Radar Cruisers just hug some island where they never can be shot at and constantly radar the caps aka DD graveyards and earning XP for spotting damage.
And here I was loving carriers all last year, and this is what WG does to bone me up the arse for picking it. Oh well, still do decently enough with German BBs.

I asked if it's worth it. That means different things to different people.
Besides there are plenty of brain dead premiums. Gremy, Nikolai, Albert, etc.
Then no one would ever know if something is worth for anyone else, right? I mean, if I'm some kind of collector, even if I play very poorly with DDs, I'd still think it's worth to buy the Kidd. Even Prinz Eugen is worth the money that way.
Personally I'm only after ships that are both fun to play and historically significant. So I think Kidd is worth for me.
Flamu can you reach out to the devs and ask them to do something about the MM? every game in my tier 8's is all tier 10 now, its not enjoyable.

I was mostly referring to the Defensive AA Fire buff that US and German ships got. But the fact that the Kidd has better AA than many HIGHER tier cruisers is also pretty fucking stupid.

IFHE has some benefit, but not nearly as much as buffing main guns and especially AA, considering the role of this DD.

no its not bad design that he used AP against you its your control of your ship by not giving him full side shots on you which would have given his shots overpens. Both times you gave him the length of your ship for his shots to crit you. For someone who says hes and "expert" on the game you first took on a BB with your guns at close range instead of staying hiding and torping him and then you criticize WG for BB dmg against a DD which has1/8th the health pool. So basically your saying you want DD dmg from a BB against a DD when a DD is engaged in a gun fight against a BB.

Too bad gearing AA spec is very annoying too play.. I had great games but the schoolbus handling and speed really makes it suffer.. Benson Kidd Fletcher all have good rudder and turn circles so at least there AA isnt a handicap so much.. Gearing guns still great tho as long they don't get crippled

That AA is stupid. The Iowa has like 5 times the amount of AA guns, but it cannot shoot down that many planes, by far.
Even my Atlanta's AA looks weak compared to this Kidd, I rarely get that many plane kills, but it could just be that CV's try to avoid all Atlantas. Looks like CV players will have to add Kidd's to their "hands off" list.
cruisers gets powerful heal. dds gets hydro, radar and now excellent AA. bbs gets super powerful HE and almost impossible to citadel. Hidden shooting and now smoke mechanic completely reworked. Roles of ships are completely reversed. Carriers gets the long stick of beating and not included in clan warfare. Yeah wows are changing in strange and unpredictable ways. New premiums are often copy-cats which are OP versions of very gold ingame ships and when released nerfed, after preview videos are released. Somehow Im not confident in buying things from them anymore. /old closed beta bugger
