There are several videos available that go through the menu options of the X-T3. What makes yours so much better than the others is that you talk about your choices and why you make them. Well done!
Timothy Linn thank you! I’m glad it was helpful!
Timothy Linn what shooting mode are you in?
One more tip for those not shooting with an external monitor. Turn on Natural Live View to put a LUT on the display when shooting in F-Log. It turns off while filming, but for setting up the shot it's a great help.
Thanks man, that's the reason why I came here. Sometimes the comments are equally as much worth as the video itself!
Excellent tutorial. I will watch it again next week when my XT-3 arrives and I set it up for video!
Centre for Inclusion and Citizenship ~ Rights Based Social Policy thank you! If you need anymore help .. just reach out!
Usually on Fuji xtrans sensors internal noise reduction for video will do a much better work than doing it outside the camera... I ended with really bad experiences on that, internal noise reduction for video in Fuji is very well done
You should probably explain how to set the shutter speed to 1/48th in Movie Mode. For others looking for the answer, set the shutter speed dial on the top of the camera to 1/60th. Then spin the rear command dial to adjust the SS to 1/48th. The rear command dial must be configured to adjust SS (program shift) to dial it in exactly.
1BigBucks1 thanks! Check out part 2 of this video ... I explain it there! Link to part 2 is in the description.
THIS IS GOLD. At first I was like, who is this guy with 40 pounds of gear for a two pound camera? Then you solved my life. Many thanks.
Mitchell Riggs yeah. It seems like a lot of gear .. but it packs fast. It’s not all needed. Just really depends on the type of work you do! Enjoy!
I respect your gear as responsible. My need to travel lighter is undoubtedly connected to my growing age. The tiny size of the X-T3 is a big part of the appeal to me. I've always thought that people get comfortable faster in front of a smaller camera setup. Thanks again for this info. Great stuff
Salute from a fellow Fuji X-T3 shooter. Loved the video!
Bushido Photo, LLC thank you! Glad you enjoyed it !
Awesome! Mine just arrived yesterday and am taking it out to shoot today. Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll have a video put together
Michael Robinson awesome!!! You’ll love the X-T3!
This video is so good for us beginners. Thank you so much. I will add more and more of the accessories you recommend a little at a time. Already bought the Rode audio recorder you recommended. Excellent tips.
Just got my xt3 yesterday and all I can say is this is great help. Thanks so much! Keep up the great content 👍
Stoked it helped!
Great info! Coming back to using this camera after a long break and this was very helpful. Cheers.
Great video! One correction only ,the silent controls are not because the dials are noisy. It is for not affecting your photo settings by not touching the dials. For example if your photo shutter is 1/250, instead of rotating the dial that will affect photo and video, you change it via the touchscreen. So when you go back to shooting photos, all your settings are untouched :)
Tassos Photography for sure! Thanks for making that point! I’m just not a fan of the touch operation.. but some people may love it!!
so happy I found you, you explain so well and your reasons for doing so...best tutorial I have seen
TerjeAudio thank you!
Hi, very helpful, thanks. X-T3 arrived yesterday, first Fuji camera. What a premium feeling and good looking camera! 2 Things and excuse me if this is dumb, quite new to all this. 1. If you use the 120fps and reduce to 60fps in camera, how is it affected if you then use it in a 24 FPS timeline say for example as B Roll? 2. I can’t really understand the best way to update firmware - I assumed I could do this via PC but you need to get an app and use WiFi? Thanks again, really wanted this for video mainly so useful to have video focused tutorial.
Daniel McCarthy what editor are you using ? You would simply take the 60fps footage and then convert it / interpret the footage to 24fps in Adobe Premiere or Davinci. You could drop in the editor and render but you won’t get the same affect until your interpret the footage.
The best way to update is from either the Fuji app and update on promp once phone is connected to camera or download the Fuji firmware upgrade on Fuji’s website and drop it to an sd cafe that has been formatted in your Fuji. Put that sd card into camera. Hold down the display button on back when powering on, and you’ll be prompted to upgrade firmware version.
Hope that helps.
@@SierraCreative oh, that's really helpful, thanks very much. I use Davinci.
i just realised that you were the guy that posted the surf video which was the final video that made me decide this was the camera for me. (Not saying I can produce a video like that- just that it's possible with this camera). Thanks again.
Daniel McCarthy awesome!
very infromative, what video card r u using thnks
This was so helpful and so in-depth. I'm comparing cameras to shoot video with, and I haven't shot since before digital. A photographer friend suggested this camera and I'm doing as much research as possible before I pull the trigger. All of the technical aspects are a little overwhelming and will take some learning, but I'm excited to get back to shooting and learning a new medium. What do you suggest I read or watch to learn more about the more technical things you talked about?
I would look into shooting videos with mirrorless cameras tutorials - understanding shutter rules and FPS and how they work together is important. Also having a good understanding of exposure is good too. Have fun! Thanks for the feedback. I’m hoping to create more helpful content like this this spring and summer!
Hey I just bought your Fuji LUT pack after watching your Venice beach video. Any further tips on using the LUts. I really love the look you’ve created, it’s what I’ve been looking for.
Would love to know more about why shutter speed should be double the frame rate! Thanks!
Hi great video, can you tell me how to restore factory settings please.
I have bought all of your LUTs for fuji..mate can you try a classic chrome based LUT in future..?
though it is already great..
Just got my X-T3 a few days ago and have been looking for a video like this so thank you! What Wooden Camera parts did you use to build out your cage? I was just about to buy the smallrig but I love your idea of it being capable of fitting any camera.
Zach Garrow I use the Wooden Camera Unified DSLR Cage with Rubber-Grip Handle (Small) - it’s nice for the Fuji, Sony, Canon mirrorless cameras. It’s really modular as well.
@@SierraCreative Great. Thank you!!
Good video, but I think going over the best memory card for shooting 4k 60 @ 400mb would be cool. Which cards are you using?
JHamilton Good call! My bad. Yes. I’m shooting the 64GB Sony & Sandisk UHS-II cards - I use the 64GB cards as I don’t like putting all my files on one card. Both cards are the 300mb/s cards read and write.
I’ve just bought the xt4. I’m new to dslr as I’ve been shooting sony Z1 camcorders for years XLR inputs direct into camera, and all recorded onto the card, easy! Now i need to get a tascam or other to hook up my throat mics. My question is, how easy is it to sync the sound in post. Are we talking a clapper board from the 40’s or is there a more 21century answer?!!
Great video! Some people say that some Fujinon lenses have noisy autofocus, and that it doesn't work well for things like interviews, or when mounting a mic like Rode Videomic on top of the camera. What is your experience and what lenses do you shoot video with?
Ozzy Slant the Fuji Lenses can be noisy but you can still get good audio from a Rode mic when doing an interview. Something like the rode lapel mics would be a better for interview stuff though. My favorite Fuji lenses are the Fuji 23mm f/1.4 & 56mm f/1.2 . The 23mm is great for video! I also like using the Fringer EF adapter and using canon glass. The AF works great on the Fringer Pro II!
Best camera on the market...hands down, man down (mark Jackson)
kn0ckamus I love my X-T3 -
This is the best video I have seen on this subject. Well done!!
I actually scrolled down my browser when you got to the last menu item. lol Great video! This has everything I need to know. Thanks man!
manna4all awesome! I’ll be adding another video to this topic to elaborate a little more on the menus and some additional gear that I use that I didn’t mention in this video.
Im so pumped up now! 😊 Thanks for this info. Can't wait for my new XT3 and it's on the way for delivery this weekend 👌
Mon legaspi I’m way pumped for you!!
@@SierraCreative finally got the XT3 yesterday after 3 long weeks (ordered from Amazon) so now I'm going back to this video coz I don't want to mess up 👌☺️ thanks for that! 👍
Mon legaspi I have a part 2 to this video coming out tomorrow or Monday!! Just a couple things I didn’t talk about before.
Have fun! I love the X-T3!!
@@SierraCreative that's great! Looking forward to it. Btw, I'm your newbie hybrid shooter subscriber from Bahrain 👍
In the beginning you talk about the USB C power bank and how you can shoot longer and keep your stuff on a gimbal or mono pod. When I plus my XT3 into the wall via usb c it will only charge the batteries but it will not let me power the camera while shooting. Is there something I am doing wrong? I'd love to have that for long take interviews etc
Venture Arthouse it’s not letting you turn on the camera while it’s plugged in? Or do you mean it’s not charging the battery when turned on and plugged in? I know they recommend specific banks for charging while Camera is on... but I haven’t seen anyone to directly from a wall wart.
Yes you can't power the camera while it's plugged in and running. It will only charge when the camera is shut off. However I just found out that normal and the power bank is the only work around. About how long would you say it last on full charge when shooting?
Here's some more info: digital-cameras.support.fujifilm.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20151/p/8453
Venture Arthouse Ive used one battery all day on multiple occasions with the power bank. I bought the one listed above, but there is other options I think.. but this is what Fuji recommends. I would say it’s at least 200+ min of record time. I love it! I bought another for a backup or when running 2 cameras. It’s really a no brainer at the price point.
Sierra Creative you are the man! Love you for this video. Just ordered two on amazon! 😂 literals have no complaints or gripes about this camera anymore. This fixes that issue for good and all.
Fantastic video. Thanks so much for sharing with us. I am looking to buy the Anker Power Bank as I shoot wedding video. How do you hold yours during a shoot? Do you attach to the tripod/Gimbal or keep it in your pocket? Sorry for a weird question but I want to make sure it's a practical purchase. Cheers 😊
AMazing video, thanks for sharing, really helpful to understand some of these settings! I use the XT-4, but some of them translate over to the newer model :)
Haha, anyone who starts their video by telling us they went surfing in the morning deserves my sub!
Will_You_Are Haha, I’ll take it.
You are the best for doing this video!
Jesse Ortiz I’m glad it’s helpful!
Thank you so much for the guide video! I love my X-T3 but I have one issue. I can't seem to figure out how to get my audio levels to display on screen. Am I missing something? Thanks!
Thanks for the video with a lot of information! How do you deal with flickering when there is LED? In Photo-Mode there is something like Flicker-Reduction, but is there anything for filming? Thx!
PascalFunkMedien you can put the footage in an NLE and stack them. Lower the opacity or top by 50 and move a frame back. This will did the affect but also introduce some blur. The best thing to do is buy video specific lights.
Thank you so much for making this!!
Get my xt3 tomorrow and have screen shot your video to get started.
I mainly take pictures but have watched so much b roll over the last year I really want to try my hand at it. For a first timer would you use this set up? Also I already pay for lightroom is there a cheap or free way you’d recommend to start off with just to try slow mo etc. Thank you so much
Great tutorial. How can you get your audio level LR to display on scene?
Another question. How can I check the exposure in this camera? Any exposure meter? Or just with the viewfinder?
Is there an active tracking while in video mode in Fuji cameras? I can use it while in photo mode but not on video mode. Or at least lock the focus on non moving subject while I move the camera from side to side for example.
loved the video! Will save me some time exploring myself , thanks! I encountered one issue with the xt2, when I film in artificial light at home in slowmotion (120 or 100 fps), I get flicker on the screen as I want to adjust my shutter speed according to the 180° rule ((240 ss or 200ss). Have you experienced the same ? Is there a way to encounter this issue? Thanks
Geert Janssens yes. Some lights are slow and when you shoot at High frame rates your are catching the lights recycle time. If you are just shooting broll you can late fix this in post by duplicating the layer, set the opacity to 50% and then advance by one frame. I hope that makes sense. Otherwise buy a good light for filmmaking or use natural light. Some lights just induce flicker.
Have you figured out a way to mount the Anker power bank to your camera rig?
camtheman yes !!! I will attach a photo to my feed today ...
Sierra Creative where it at doe?!
camtheman check the social feed. I’ll post to my insta story too.
Sierra Creative @sierracreativeco IG right?
@@SierraCreative was the Anker power bank mount to X-t3 ever posted? Is there a way to see this post 3 weeks later since insta story is not available?
Great and thanks. Can you explain to me why the iso don't go below 640? How can I configure it so I can go lower? Thanks
Andrés Toro Giraldo is you dr set to 400? If so reduce to 100 and it’ll drop lower
Hi thanks for the great tips! I just got a xt3 and having trouble with MOV files with my windows 10 PC. Is there a way to record MP4 files?
Try downloading QuickTime Pro for PC. It’s a $29 program, but you should get all the codecs with it once installed. You can also download Davinci Resolve for PC for free and I believe you’ll also get the codecs.
Thanks for this! Sorry if this has been asked already but when you talked about powering the camera with an external USB battery pack, is this done by just connecting the battery to the USB-c port of the camera? Does it work without having a camera battery installed? Thanks
Peter Carroll you need to have a camera battery installed. The usb-c Power source will keep the battery charged on draw from the source as well. I can use a Anker PD power bank and one battery all day for a shoot.
@@SierraCreative Thank you for the quick response! If I may, can you recommend an adapter that runs the XT3 off of wall current with a "dummy" battery or other connection? My XT3 arrives tomorrow.
Peter Carroll I’m haven’t used one from the wall. Fuji does have a grip that plugs into the wall. That’s the only one that I know of that I would recommend. Hope that helps.
So with resolution is simpler to edit in post, for a beginner? I just got my XT-3 and I’ll be mainly filming some family/vacation footage. Or is editing/color grading necessary at all? I’m planning to purchase premier pro for editing. Thanks!
Excellent video.
When shooting video and panning from dark to light areas (such as sunlit areas to shadow areas) and vice versa., the exposure is changing in jumps rather than smooth transitions, which doesn't seem the case in other camera brands like the Sony or Canon. Those don't have that problem: their exposure changes are rather smooth. I have tried different combinations of aperture, shutter speed and ISO and all resulted in the same problem: jumps or steps in exposure change (or ramping or whatever it's called) as you move from dark to light areas and vice versa. I have read here and there that others have experienced the same. Has anyone here faced this problem, and if so, is there any solution? Everyone is praising the X-T3's video capabilities, but I haven't seen any reviewers tackle this issue, and frankly I am very frustrated as I bought the X-T3 for the main purpose of shooting video.
PS: my basic set up is 4k 59.94fps, shutter speed fixed at 120, fixed aperture, ISO set to Auto. As I mentioned I have also tried other combinations of ISO/aperture/shutter speed settings but all had the same negative result.
I don't use Auto exposure at all... I have never done this on any professional shoot. I rely on de-clicked aperture or Variable ND filters. You never want to auto shutter!!!!! Your shutter should be kept at double the FPS... for example, if you are shooting 25fps, your shutter should be at 1/50s- This will give you the best shutter angle possible for smoother footage. If you want that auto everything video... a camcorder might be a better option for you.
@@SierraCreative Thanks for your reply.
You may have misunderstood me so let me clarify: as I mentioned I use a fixed shutter speed (1/120s as I'm shooting at 59.94fps). Aperture is fixed as well. The only auto setting is ISO. I have opted for auto ISO (instead of fixed ISO) because I wanted to avoid full manual settings, for convenience obviously. But at these settings, I am experiencing the horrible jumps in exposure change (obviously caused by the ISO setting being on Auto) as the camera is moving from bright to dark areas and vise versa. If I understood you correctly, as long as I'm using auto ISO I will not get smooth footage. Instead, I should fix both my shutter speed and ISO, and rely on a de-clicked aperture lens (or ND filter in case a de-clicked aperture lens is not possible) in order to compensate for changes in the lighting situation. And that would be the only way to achieve smooth footage. Is my understanding correct?
If so, any particular tips on how to efficiently use a variable ND filter in this case? (as a de-clicked aperture lens is not an option for me for the time being).
Thanks again.
Hey man. This is great stuff. So helpful for Fuji shooters. Cheers!
Just wondering why you don’t have the level line? I love that thing as for some reason i shoot slightly crooked.
I’ve been agonizing for weeks about whether to cancel my BMPCC 4K preorder and get this instead. How do you think the image quality and gradability compares between the two? I haven’t really been blown away by the footage I’ve seen from the Blackmagic so far.
Jonathan Shearon if you want to shoot raw externally, the black magic may give more flexibility... but the x-t3 is well rounded! It depends what you want from the camera...
Sierra Creative I think what appeals to me about the X-T3 is that you get image quality and codecs that come close to a cinema camera, and you get a great stills camera too. I’m just not sure I’m ready to give up having a hybrid camera, even for raw.
Maybe the best solution is to pair the X-T3 with the new Atomos Ninja V for waveforms and prores, and just rent the BMPCC 4K or an Ursa when the project calls for it.
Jonathan Shearon dude .. yes .. If you want to do photo and video the X-T3 is the way to do! I also think the larger sensor in the X-T3 makes a difference!
Jonathan Shearon funny enough I just cancelled my black magic preorder and just picked this up instead since its so well rounded. The black magic is sick but the Cinema DNG is not easy to work with. They also both shoot 10 bit and have bad battery life and great color science so I went with the Fuji! Highly recommend!
Venture Arthouse the new blackmagic Raw codec is supposed to be nice. The X-T3 is very versatile!! I love my X-T3
Excellent guide, thanks very much
Pete Downham thanks for the feedback!
Hi.. Great video but I would like some help. I tried your settings and the file recorded don't work on my windows 7 64. I only hear audio from the file. The file don't work with sony-vegas-pro 13 or media player.
Download the free version of Davini Resolve and you will get the codecs. Also having quicktime on your windows machine helps too!
@@SierraCreative thanks a million for your advice. Well try it out.
Sierra Creative, Dude I love this camera, thanks for the setting setup, i loved the color of your short documentary on the manakin guy. could you do a video on grading the Flog and were you shooting 10bit 420 for the Flog or external 422?
CineBlogs that video is in the works! I shot flog internal & external. It was a combo of both.
Which wooden camera cage do you use?
Hi sir! This video is really helpful. I am planning to get Fujifilm XT3. I just wanted to know whether it is possible to use a SSD drive directly connected to the XT3 via HDMI port to record videos?
Pranav Rajeshirke you can records to a Atomos Ninja V which uses ssd’s to record.
Thank you! Very helpful!
Rogier Bos no problem! Thank you for the feedback.
About auto exposure, are there anyway to adjust so that fuji change exposure smoothly? Now it just stepping.
Thank you so much for this Video!✌
David Zauner no worries! Glad it’s useful. I’m releasing a part 2 today or tomorrow as a follow up. Just to clarify some stuff and make some additions!
Thanks !!
What Micro HDMI Cable are you using?
So sick!
Just got a Xt3 so old question but how do I edit my videos on an iPad with this codec ? I am trying to use iMovie
Just really great!
Unir Mangoutov thank you!
This power bank solution is better than the 300€ extended grip? Can you power both the camera and the power bank and get unlimited battery time? Last question: can you film while using the power bank? And therefore, it will slowly drain the battery of both the camera or only the power bank?
baubergô if you are shooting more photos .. you might want the grip. If you are using a video rig, attaching the bank to a cage or gimbal isn’t a big deal. The battery bank has about 200 min record time. I have found that with a fully charged Fuji battery in the body the bank will keep it the battery charged when in use .. but if you put a dead battery in the camera and try to use the bank it will consume the internal battery faster than the bank can keep the trickle charge up. The internal battery needs to have some juice in it! I have shot all day with one battery and the bank connected.
Thanks a lot! I'm a filmmaker (so no pro work regarding photos) and I'm searching a lot if the X-T3 is the ideal upgrade to go for. From time to time I do some 'one guy' gimbal jobs and realible AF-C was a great tool, so that's why I'm not all over the BMPCC4K...If I have the money I would buy a c200, but it's freaking expensive. So the X-T3 is something I'm really considering. However, I'm a fuji virgin and I'm not so sure to go there yet. The X-T3 would be in a rig probably with a external recorder/monitor, so the 'portability' of the power bank isn't a problem. I believe a velcro is what to go for.
So if like you said, I can record while the powerbank is charging the full battery, I believe this setup is way better in battery duration and price too. With the money of the grip I can buy 3 of these and 3 batterries to pair a 'full battery with each power bank' setup.
*One last thing I asked before: can you power the powerbank while you're charging the camera for a 'infinite' solution?*
Thanks again :-)
baubergô the AF in the Fuji is great. The usb c power bank is also used to charge it. So not sure this would work out. There is a usb 3.0 on the bank to.. maybe you could charge that way.. but I’m not 100% on that --
Hi - great video!
I’ve just upgraded from an xt2 and am looking at putting a rig together, are you able to link to the wooden camera rig you use?
Tim Elkington I like this cage - www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1430273-REG/wooden_camera_243609_wooden_camera_unified.html/?ap=y&gclid=CjwKCAiA4OvhBRAjEiwAU2FoJahOYtnKfZ-kx1KThHu5DE1KPFa46Q9E9woqSRFhUKiPfm4MY9v8yhoCDaUQAvD_BwE&lsft=BI%3A514&smp=Y
Tim Elkington I also built a small rig system that works pretty well too. The smallrig stuff is cheaper and feel that the quality is nice too.
@@SierraCreative oh yeah id be really keen to see that actually - i was part way through looking at building a small rig system before i saw this video, are you able to send a link to that setup? email is telkington@gmail.com
hey man, great vids!
i just want to ask, what is the max iso that is usable when doing vids? and also, is it ok for the xt3 to use power bank while filming? it will not burn the motherboard of the xt3? thanks man! subscribed!
At 16:01 you mentioned F-Log starts at 640 iso and you have the option to lower the iso if you like. Will changing the DR setting to 100 or 200 do so? I am looking into getting this camera and was thinking of a variable ND filter for it. If I were to use 640 iso I would need a 5-11 stop ND. However if I can lower the iso to 200 for example using F-log then I suppose the 1-7 stop would work just fine. Any thoughts on this since you are by a beach and plenty of sunshine. Thanks
Mark Chen you can only adjust the DR of Iso - which will give you more recovery one way or the other. To be honest, the Eterna Profile is really flat and is a great option when filming in bright conditions. I only use a variable ND when it’s necessary, but I prefer matte box with single filters or stacking filters if it’s a must.
really helpful man
Andrew Phillips awesome!
How do u turn on this manual focus distance indicator?
Does the ANKER need to be the PD version of the power bank to work?
Matt Brandon I believe so.
@@SierraCreative I've done some more research, and I think that is, in fact, the case. It does need to be a PD (Power Delivery) output battery. Some people might not know, but this term is a thing. It's not just a description. You need to look for that term PD or Power Delivery on the product.
I have a few other questions.I set up my camera with your settings as per this video but somewhere along the line three things have happened. 1.) movie mode is now greyed out in the menu options. 2.) I don't have audio levels. They are not moving with or without an external mic 3.) I can't seem to adjust the shutter speed below 120th using the command dial. without putting the shutter speed to T, then the command dial works. Any thoughts?
Matt Brandon did you accidentally activate silent shooting ? Is your left dial set to movie mode ? Did you activate High Speed Recording ? High Speed Recording sets your shutter to 120 ... but usually you can roll this up but not back down. Turn off High speed recording.
@@SierraCreative Yep, that was it! High Speed Recording was on. Way too many menu items for an old fart like me! thanks for your help.
Aweaome video man, thank you!!
What kind of power bank do you use?
Hey dude thanks for the tips. I just tried these settings at 120fps into 24internal like you said and am getting a flicker from incandescent light on play back...any suggestion? Thanks!
B M you can set it up in camera ... but depending on the shot you can double the footage up on an adjustment layer, then advance once frame ahead or behind and lower the opacity by 60% -- or to taste - the internal function works well as well.
Try closing the aperture slightly. My Sigma lenses all do this at f1.4.
Good video_ thanks. What memory cards do you use for this video stuff?
Ronald Hoppus I use the Sony & Sandisk UHS-II cards.
@@SierraCreative Which Sandisk is V60 rated?
Ronald Hoppus amzn.to/2UjL419
@@SierraCreative Why don't they use the "V" rating? Maybe they are more for photo use?
Ronald Hoppus maybe since uhs-II they dropped that variation of speed rating. There Sandisk cards are fast & reliable.
Can fuji x-t3 recording on both sd card, backup ?
Yes
Is there an easy way to have saved exposure settings for video and photos? My Sony has multiple profiles where 1 is 4k24 and the other 1080 120 and my M mode is my photo exposure so switching between that 3 is just a turn away. Does Fuji have that? I'm planning to switch to the Fuji system since Sony is deserting their apsc costumers
Brian Decasa there’s no way to duplicate that same experience. You can use the silent shooting mode and when your flip over to video mode whatever setting you have there will be saved and loaded up when switched over. You do give up some stuff .. but gain so much more .. like a really nice 400mb/s codec.
Can you save all these settings as a custom set?
Peter Cerrato your can go into silent shooting mode and save your settings via the touch screen if you choose to work like that. It overrides all the dials, but it’s a way to save your settings.
Sierra Creative cools thanks!
Sound you record to an external recorder like the Atomos? Does the AF work when recording externally?
Peter Cerrato yes.
Pretty sure you can do 10bit 4K 60 in long gop
Ciaran Giroux yes you can. I just meant you couldn’t use ALL-I / I have a second part to this video. I elaborate more on this. Thanks
You can shoot 10bit 4K/DCI 60 h265 internally! It deactivates Alli-I automaticly
BloodyJoe in long gob only ... sorry I should have clarified...
@@SierraCreative still a huge advantage over 8 bit. Was confused. Shot some footage at photokina in 4k DCI 60p 10 bit in F-log. It looks amazing and is free of any artifacts.
Good stuff on here bro. Sub'd for sure!
Thank you!
Auto subscribe..well done
dhy noah thank you!
Is there a good set up for slow motion?
When i shoot in slowmotion i have like focus problem and picture comes in fade in fade out..i am using the kit lens..can you help me ..thanks
thanks for the video man,
a question for anyone that knows: what card do i need to be able to shoot 4k DCI 24fps h.264 @ ALL-I 400mbps? Searching the web a bunch and haven't found and definitive answer. thanks!
What does peripheral light correction does actually?
TimeLapsePainting it helps with vignetting... but also can introduce banding .. just be careful when using.
@@SierraCreative Tnx!
Hey, I'm coming from the Sony a6300 where I had the Costum1 and Costum2 settings in the dial set for 4k and 1080p 120fps respectively. Do you know if there is any way to have custom settings for each resolution and frame rate? More specifically shutter speed etc.
For information, I can shoot 5 different frame rates in DCI, upto 59.97 with the latter upto 200mps, mine isn't greyed out like yours. Did you upgrade the firmware?
Adrian Photovisions yeah. The 200mbs is limited to long gop.. not all Intra. I shoot mostly in all Intra, but long gop is good too if you have the system for it. Sorry I should have clarified that. Like I said, I’m in All Intra .. all the time ;)
Ah yes, I didn't appreciate you use All-I. I bet you eat SSD's for breakfast :)
Adrian Photovisions lunch and dinner hahaha
I'm patiently waiting for the Atomos Ninja V so I can output at 4:2:2, so with 4K All-I, DCI, I reckon on about 2GB for a 10 second clip...
As I video interiors, I'm very keen to use 60fps (as I'm moving, panning etc), so a little stuck with Long GOP, but will do some comparisons with 30fps and All-I, have you tried this?
@@adrianphotovisions2308 if you're recording at 400mb/s it should be 500MB for 10s
Absolutely boss review!! Thank you for saving me a bunch of time fiddling. One a quick question, what would you say is the highest usable iso in your opinion? I’ve heard 1600 and I’ve heard 6400. I will do tests but wanted to hear what you thought. Smashed that subscribe thanks again!
Artistic Media Productions thank you! You can get away with 6400 ... but I don’t go over 3200 - 1600 is still really clean!!!
One year later. Been using fuji xt3 for professional work (mostly promo videos) and I can tell that on my 18-55 kit lens, 3200 is the max. Anymore, the quality does drop.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm considering renting a T3 for a travel shoot. Do you get any vignetting when doubling up the black pro mist and the ND filters?
Nathaniel Bockley rent it !! You’ll love it. I’m not getting any more vignetting than what usually happens with a variable ND.. I try and use my matte box when doubling up.. but I’m looking to carry a lighter set I’ll just double up the threaded filters.
Did you shoot this video on the xt3?
Try -4 for sharpening and nr. Still extremely sharp but more natural
That’s a great tip for those not using any filters. It’s just a little to soft if you’re using a Tiffen Black Pro mist of a Black Satin filter.
@@SierraCreative Red Monstro footage e.g. still looks way softer even though it's 8k.
I prefer a softer look like Cinema cameras do thanks to the absence of any sharpening and string olpfs, but can't afford a red or Arri camera right now, lol
Still have the GH5 here, which even at its lowest sharpening setting is way oversharpened. Using digital diffusion and black satin filters as well as blur in post.
Dennis Schmitz that might come down to lens characteristic on the red. Like a said when I shoot with Cinema lenses I will change this to reflect. Totally feel what you’re saying. I’d love to see some of your footage using -4 with a tiffen filter and cinema lens. I shoot with a c200 and I find that it’s about the same with sharpening at my recommended settings or with the filters I talked about. Send me a link!! Thanks for the feedback!
Dennis Schmitz I will be making a follow up video tomorrow to include some other setting I left out or didn’t fully elaborate on with the long gop vs All-I - I also have some example footage I shot to show as well. Thanks for the tips.
@@SierraCreative didn't have any diffusion while shooting there. The footage was extremely detailed and sharp even at -4 (on my 27" UHD screen here).
Here's a link to one file I grabbed over there (and a color corrected version)

Ok, so what am I missing? I did a test brief test shot in H.265 HVEC at 10bit and my MacBookPro couldn't play it with out dropping tons of frames and ramping the processor. Is there something I need to be able to use these settings? Please advise. Thx! much respect!
SOLVM download the free version of Davinci or just use adobe media compressor to output prores... Premiere is so choppy and buggy!!! They are supposed to update soon! Also ... look into an external GPU!!! I love the Blackmagic one .. but yeah.. it’s more money. Editing 10bit on a MacBook Pro using premiere can me a bit taxing. Also ... editing off an internal or external SSD will help!
Cool! Downloading Davinci right now. So what's the learning curve on it? I'm handy with FCP and Premiere. I do have a SSD drive, but i don't have an external GPU. Thanks for the tips!!!
How to edit h265 on cs6, or resolve, on win7?? Transcode to h264? Does this mean I should record on h264 if I can't edit on h265?
Question: The all intra setting for 4K films at 60p but internally saves it to 24, will i be still be able to access the 60p when i open te file in premiere? or do i need to take the other mode to achieve this? same for FHd 2x60p 120 will i be able to get the 120 in premiere after filming?
Hi, I have a problem with mf+af. The manual says "In manual focus the camera will focus using autofocus when you tap the display; during recording, you can tap the display again to move the focus area to a new location". Gh5 works in this mode, you can drag the focus area during recording, but with my X-T3 I don't understand how to do it.
Hey. I'm confused about something. I just got a FUji XT3 and it automatically slows down the footage for me when I shoot in 120fps. So if I wanted to use that same footage for speed ramping how would I do that since the footage is already slowed down? Like how would I manipulate it to play at regular speeds then slow the portions I want down?
BREADCRUMBS instead of speed ramp from fast to slow, speed ramp from slow to fast. It’s essentially the same thing just opposite.
How did u open my menu
dinesh limbu it’s the last item in the menu system.
Sierra Creative yes but dosent opening my camera
is that background music really necessary?
Guess not. I forgot to turn off iTunes when I started filming ;)
You can shoot 4k 60 h265. you have to change it from all intra to long gop. this video is old, hopefully you figured that out already.
Hopefully someone with an X-T3 can weigh in here..... I just bought mine (second hand, but in super good condition, at least on the outside), but I'm worried I bought a lemon :o It warms up very quickly. Even just flipping through the menu for a few minutes, I can feel it warming up (especially on the bottom). I shot some 4k 60p video today. My total recording time came to under 13 minutes, but the battery was down to 65%, with quite a bit of heat being generated by the camera body. Is this normal???? In comparison, my Sony a6500 runs much cooler and with better battery life.
sfusiondj Lee yes that’s normal with 4K 60fps I can do 14-15mins most, due to body is super hot and need to shut down compulsory
I thought the XT3 can shoot 4K@60p internal in 10-bit?
It can shoot internal 10bit 4:2:0 not 4:2:2
Great Great tutorial Sir, thanks for the help with getting started. I came all the way from Black Magic with an super easy setup so this just put me on my feet! Subscribe I will. QUESTION: Movie mode @ f2.8 it does not allow me to go below ISO 320, what am I doing wrong. Thanks in advance
SunnyParis Films check your DR settings if you aren’t shooting F-log - thanks for the support . Let me know if that resolves your issue.
