I have already sold my 50 acre mixture of mainly pine and some hardwoods and waiting for the clear cutting to begin. Our local dealer sells Mahindra, Massy and New Holland. My budget just supports the most bang for the buck, which is the 4550 Mahindra 4x4 with bucket and want to add a grapple and bush cutter. I like the old school features and to me, keep it simple stupid means reliability to me. Mahindra, I believe they were involved with International Harvester tractors for awhile, as well as making military Jeeps. The 2 year warranty bumper to bumper is a plus, as well as the 7 year powertrain. 0% financing for 8 years but I plan to drop a good wad on it to keep payments reasonable. I was using a 53 Super A with a 4 foot bush cutter but it just isn't up to the task to cut fire lanes really and getting harder to find parts for. Maybe to be a parade tractor for later. However with electronic ignition, it fires up every time, first time as long as it has good gas. It is about 80% restored. After the 50 acres are clear, I want to install an acre pond on my property and want to maintain it properly and after the cut will have some slash I will need to take care of before the pond guys show up to save on some of the machine/labor costs. Bud at work has the 4540 and tickled to death with it. As you stated, it is an old school type of tractor with cast iron on the front and rear end, while other compacts, even the big names are moving to aluminum rears/fronts, -which is crazy in my mind. Thanks for your videos!
I do this for a living and it is extremely therapeutic no question . I really enjoy it. It's like a drug and enjoying what you do is living your dream and getting paid for it. I like all the Tractor stuff. Good video Hank Kimble. But the way is Arnold Ziffel really that smart?😜
Awesome video once again Hank!!! I knew this was gonna be a great one!!! Spring is here and time for clean up and food plots!! You have all the right accessories for it and did a great job!!! Congrats Hank!!!
The saw haul is really a must have for anyone that uses a chainsaw. I know you advertise it being peace of mind, but it's true. I don't worry about running over or forgetting my chainsaw in the woods. I'm glad I bought one.
I absolutely love seeing this good ol' boy driving around on a Mahindra from India 🇮🇳. No judgment, I'd do it too, but you might wanna swap that them thar fiddle fer a sitar.. 😅👍
On covering the brush with dirt to drive over. Pretty good idea. In time it will rot and need to add to it, but it will definitely be good short term and won't take much work to just add more dirt when necessary. I have been filling a sink hole in that is quite large and I can drive on what I have put logs and limbs in that I have covered with dirt. I am working it from the outside to the inside. Quite a large sink hole so it will take me awhile. But all that will decompose and be soil again in time. Again nice video with some very good advice on maneuverability of the tractor with large implements on.
Great video Hank! Oh how I need a grapple haha, that was a good lookin cleanup buddy. Yup we love tractor time!!! Keep the great videos coming, take care!
Putting brush in the ruts will definitely help the road, but you might want to not use to big a trash as when drive over it. It might jump up and tear something from under your rig. You have a lot of good advice on equipment use
I’m doing it on some big ditches on my property that I’m clearing. The water will find its way though the brush so you may need do a drain on the low end
Your grapple works with a handle diverter valve the way a big machine words. Not like a subcompact or a little compact tractor with an electric diverter valve
I got me a rural king 55, was using a BX25D and needed something a little bigger. Got it with the grapple and rake. Hopefully that will work. My choices were RK, John deer or kabota. RK had more bang for the buck.
Brother if I had a place like you down in the panhandle of Florida where it was warm all year round I would have either a small herd of cattle or goats or something. I would put up hay a little bit anyway and I would do at least a little bit of regenerative or organic vegetable farming where you are you could raise year-round and supplement your income a little that's what I use it for
Taking my 1526 in for oil leak repair and the loaner is a 4540 4wd with loader, im scared i wont wanna return it lol. Better have that seat belt on if that loader hits a stump and stops you lol.
I would not fill the hole with wood then cover with wood. I'd remove the wood then box blade the affected area to even out the ground, then take some dirt from some high ground and build up the low areas. You could also angle your box blade and create a ditch on either side of the road so the water flows to the ditch, not to the main driving area. Hard to tell since I don't know your landscape layout. I too have areas that need some serious TLC. Enjoyed full-watch.
on the subject of filling with material that can rott , check out the sink holes that collapsed on interstates because old companies used trees as backfill
We're hoping to add a diverter valve and grapple next spring. Spent a couple hour last Sunday moving brush with the pallet forks. Effective, but quite a hassle.
Great vid. Getting a 4540 next week. Gotta get a grapple! What brand is that one? How much did it cost to get the grapple all set up? Thanks. Subscribed
You'll love the 4540... Not sure what the grapple cost separate bc my tractor had it on it when I bought it. It's a Terra force. But if I had to buy my own, I'd get a wicked grapple from Everything Attachments. Mine isn't bad, but the wicked grapple is a lot better.
Great video, wish I had one, my buddy uses a box blade on the rear of tractor with a few tractor weights hanging on for rear ballast, when he is on land clearing duty, Isn’t that tractor brand the number one selling tractor in the world?
I have safety switches on my brakes and clutch pedals on the underside of my ahindra Max 28xl. When I'm working in the woods, the tall grass and bushes will pull wires off those switches. I'm ok as long as I don't shutoff the tractor. When I try to restart the tractor, it won't start. So then I have to crawl under the tractor and reconnect the butt plug. I need to install belly shield.
Great! What do you do with the brush/trees after removing it? I have same problem. >10yrs of tree growth/brambles/vines I have to remove. Does the grapple work on brambles too? Mine are >6ft hi. Thanks
I'm pretty sure most tractors use a two.flow type system now days. Maybe not two separate pumps, but definitely a diverter valve of some sort. I could be wrong, ,but I think that's the way it is now.

Video shows 4540 but I noticed 4550 on front end loader arm. I'm getting one and cant decide on which one. Is the extra HP on 4550 worth it. I will be doing same type of clearing.
Hey man thanks for all the information, I'm kinda new to tractors, I just bought 10acers and got some work to do. House is about ready to move in to. But I was looking at a mahindra 4550 it's a 2019 is this a good tractor? I know I don't need this much tractor but I can get it for a pretty good deal. Thanks
@@HamiltonvilleFarm do you like them better, I've been looking at so many tractors, it really get confusing but I do know I don't want to be underpowered. Then there's the money part also. The mahindra did look pretty big and bulky but that's ok. I don't know if a 35hp tractor would be all I needed, probably so but alittle more never hurts, what's the difference in a 4540 mad 4550 hp?
4540 is 40ho..4550 is 50hp and has a standard rear remote. I do like the Branson better. It has.more lifting capacity than my old Mahindra which is important to me.

Yes putting bruch in those ruts is a great idea. It will control the water running thru that area.

Great video Hank, I think the brush in the ruts will help. Just gotta make sure nothing sticking up to puncture a tire.
Yeah good point Joey. I'm hoping it's dead enough to just break off when it's ran over. Maybe if I had a track loader😁😉
Looks like someone needs a grapple for their track loader!
@@geekygardens HaHa, I was hoping to find a loader with a clamp bucket. But no such luck

How much does the grapple and bush hog attachments cost individually

we simply move our debris to an area we have designated and let it rot. We have about a 4 acre spot on the property we never go around.
I wonder if Mahindra uses separate pumps for steering and implements?
I'm pretty sure most tractors use a two.flow type system now days. Maybe not two separate pumps, but definitely a diverter valve of some sort. I could be wrong, ,but I think that's the way it is now.
