    ✨ about my channel
Hello my beautiful sunshines! Welcome to this little corner of the internet, where I will be sharing the ups and downs of life and how to attempt to get through it in one piece. I’ll be sharing life advice, minimalism tips, routines, vlogs, houseplant help, and anything else I think you would benefit from! Life is messy and unpredictable, and learning how to manage these hurdles is the first step to leading a happier and more intentional life. I just wanted to create a safe space for us to unwind, and allow you to leave here feeling more inspired than when you arrived.
    Sending you all my love,
    Grace

I've been heading towards minimalism for about 6 years. I'm still decluttering. Currently I'm decluttering my 'fantasy self' items like the clothes that I wish would suit me (but never will); the craft projects that I will never start or finish etc. I've already done the easier ones of things I don't use - the clothes that don't fit/ the fancy cake plates that I haven't used in years etc etc! Slowly I'm decluttering responsibilities and learning to say no!

SO true.. I still think I have a few pesky pairs of heels hiding in the back of my closet storage cupboard when I know I won't (and don't) wear them

When I was downsizing from an 819 sq. ft. home to a 424 sq. ft. home 8 years ago, I found things that I did not even remember I had. Choosing at that point to live a more minimalistic life felt like I was mentally and financially freeing myself. I also at that time paid of my credit card debt and have never had one since. Being forced to pay for things out of pocket has been life changing in so many ways.

I relate to your experience so much! I was constantly shopping and filling my apartment with junk when I was in college, but since I needed to move after graduating I started decluttering and heading towards minimalism. I think the reason it's made me feel so much more at peace is because I'm not trying to build my identity based on external signifiers anymore-- I was always trying to figure out who I was based on the "aesthetic" of the things around me, and now that I've become more intentional with what I own and consume I'm finally learning who I am independent of material goods.

I’m so proud of you! (I’m in my late 60s, so think of me as a young great-aunt.)
I’ve been a minimalist for years. Progress, not perfection. There are lots of different types of minimalism, from stark (Ronald L Banks comes to mind), to the warm, cozy version (I’m trying to warm my apartment up now through wall colour and different textures.)
I would highly recommend Joshua Becker, who has the best practical advice on minimalism, imo. I’m paraphrasing his definition of minimalism here:
Minimalism is about identifying what’s important in life, and removing the things that are distracting us from them.
Also check out Victoria Moran, whose books include “Lit from Within” and “Shelter for the Spirit: Creating Your Own Haven in a Hectic World”.
Give your pupper a virtual hug for me, please.

this comment was like a big hug!!! thank you so much!! I truly appreciate the book recommendations! I'm definitely leaning on the side of cozy minimalism, and couldn't agree more with the quote you shared🥰

Joining you on this journey, girl! Love the quality and content of this video. ❤️ I am a SAHM of 3 young children and live in a small residential city but becoming more minimal absolutely proven these same things in my life. More enjoyment in the little moments, more emphasis on togetherness as a family and less on the stuff, and continuing to learn how to be a careful consumer. There's so many of us in our house so it's very difficult but we're learning. I'm excited to see where your journey takes you! Way to go for embracing where you're at NOW. ❤️ Through all the ups and downs, and making space for those emotions.

The best book I've found for curbing social media addiction is Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. As an MIT-educated computer scientist at Georgetown University, Cal breaks down just how intentionally addicting and destructive social media can be. But he goes further in helping readers not only get off but also stay off social media. The book helped me delete my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts in 2019 and resist staying off new platforms, such as TikTok, etc. And the quality of my perception of daily life has seen a significant boost. I probably re-read the book every year or so just to remind myself that, sometimes missing out on what's happening online is ok and always preferable to missing out on what's happening right in front of you.
Best of luck on your simplification journey, Grace.

What a beautiful dream! (the one about living in the countryside in New Zealand) I wish you to experience such a life in a peaceful place. As a sensitive person myself, also easily getting overwhelmed (overstimulated - like we, HSP, do), I dreamed of a life in nature for many, many years, and… It came true just recently. It’s a wonderful feeling of being at home, harmonizing with an environment, immersing in nature, and slowly diving into peace. Keep your dream deep in your heart. One day it may come true.

    • @gracenevitt

if you're talking about ADHD, I have it too, and for me, sometimes I feel like looking at too many things is far too overstimulating. minimalism doesn't mean having no decor or belongings. just things that are superfluous (old receipts, every birthday card you've ever been sent, a coffee machine you use once every 2 years, 50 pairs of shoes) it's about simplifying your life. if looking at art or decorations make you happy, that can be part of your minimalism!! (in my book, at least)
