Best country in Europe
My dear Son working in Lisbon thanks 🙏 God
Best wishes for him and your family.
@@bjpakosta thanks 🙏 so much sir
Thanks for your comment!
Even if all the standard are lower than here (Austria / North Italy) and of course also the prices, Portugal is a so nice and wonderful place where you can eat so delicious food that I have for sure to go back again! I did Lisboa-Faro high speed train path. Definitely a country underestimated. So rich of history, nice tails, delicious food... Go there, support Portugal economy!
I totally agree with you ☺️
Thank you for being in my home town! 😇😇
Yeah please come back!
@Chansler Eduardo Lisbon?? Portugal is much more than that, Lisbon is just a tourist trap with nothing autentic.
Thanks for your commentary. Hope all of you have a great time in my country.
I designed the door exterior displays... We kept the FOCON original PIS controllers and it was pretty difficult to fit everything in the same casing of the original LCD displays.
Wow! Great job 🙏🏻
Great video. The reason for blue lights in the bathroom is to make it hard for drug users to find a vein to inject drugs. While they decriminalized most drug possession in Portugal, they still treat it as a public health issue and send people who are caught with small amounts of drugs into treatment rather than jail.
Thank you for that information! An it's good they help people who have drugs problems instead of just locking them up!

I doubt that's actually the reason they use blue lights.
Blue in specific is just a very calming colour, that's why it's used in ambulances to soothe the patients, not because it makes it harder to find veins.
Also it's just a nice bit of aesthetics.
Lol
Beautiful, stylish and discreet exterior livery and interior design - very different to the idea of what's contemporary in the UK, where public transport equivalent's often give the impression they've been designed by a five year old using every one of his crayons! Parabens CP!
Very smart aren't they 👍🏻☺️
I do love me the bright coloration of the liveries of the UK and Italia, though myself. I strongly prefer it over the painful simplistic, monotone color schemes and designs many go for now since that's what is considered "modern". Grays, silvers, whites & blacks dominating the liveries with only a slight touch of real color here or there just... isn't something I like much if at all honestly. But of course, that's me. I can't remember which service it is in the UK that has the livery which is silver, yellow & red, but it's one of my personal favorites. Italy's Italo & National Operator's liveries are also at the top of my list. Their NO's Red, Black, Gray & White is fantastic.
The Italians understand style and that goes for the French too.
About the trains.
"Pendolino (from Italian pendolo [ˈpɛndolo] "pendulum", and -ino, a diminutive suffix) is an Italian family of tilting trains used in Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, Russia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the UK, Switzerland and China. Based on the design of the Italian ETR 401, it was further developed and manufactured by Fiat Ferroviaria, which was taken over by Alstom in 2000. "

The name of the city is Aveiro not Aviero
Sorry my bad 🙈
Nonstop Eurotrip:
Yes, the really name is Aveiro!
Never mind, that happend sometimes.
Because you are not a portuguese Citizen.💪😉😂
@@nandoagra6339 And to be fair, some of us are also dyslexic, so that kind of mistake is near inevitable here and there. haha
@@NonstopEurotrip LOL Wonder how many Portuguese were muttering "Aveiro, caraças, Aveiro!" under their breaths while watching this video eheheh
@@JcRabbit I was one of those trying to be mad that Aveiro appeared mispelled all the time but but damn, it's hard to be mad at anything in this video.
And I can't wait for the review on the Douro train ride (all the way to Pocinho I hope) because the scenery is indeed GORGEOUS.
Overall, 9.9/10 on the review, thank you.
Nice stations, nice trains, nice scenery, nice country.
I agree ☺️
The problem of alfa pendular is actually the rails, which even after 20+ years don't allow it to go at his top speed. Luckily, government is finally starting a new railroad parallel to this one, which will solve this problem. Atleast that's what they announced, an huge investment in rails all over portugal ;)
Ah brilliant! That'll be good when it's finished 😊
Well yes, planning stage has already started on the Lisbon-Porto and Porto-Vigo high speed railway, which will enable speeds in excess of 250km/h, and will be done in Iberian gauge in order to have compatibility with the rest of the network.
Despite not having a significant increase in top speed, it will allow for an increase in average speed, allowing Porto-Lisbon in less than 1h40min possibly.
@@sergiofreitas9368 target times: 1h15m Lisbon - Porto non-stop.
@@ruipina5636 1h15min is for when phase 2 of the project is fully finished, phase 2 contemplates purchase of new trains capable of 300km/h, and much more complicated stuff.
@@sergiofreitas9368 no firm decision yet if the line will be built in two phases initiated by the Soure - Gaia section or in one shot. In case the line bypasses the cities of Leiria, Coimbra and Aveiro using chords to link to the conventional lines and serve the actual stations, 1h10m (or less I would say) will be possible for non-stop trains.
I rode Alfa Pendular for the first time in March 2020. This was at the height of pandemic. I was coming from Gatwick to Porto .Immigration personnel asked me whats the purpose of my visit and I said something in Portuguese to visit the land of my ancestors. He look at my american passport and got confused as why I have a portuguese last name. I am not claiming Portuguese but I am overwhelmed how magical and beautiful the land of my great grandfather is. My great grandfather was actually born outside of Porto. I visited the place and was touched by how warm the people are and of course how charming Porto and the surrounding region was. Stayed 3 nights in the city and took the train to Lisbon and explored the city.
Excellent Mike, I hope you had a great time 🙏🏻
Hello from Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil! Nice video, liked a lot. I also watched other videos from you and have enjoyed all of them, thank you for your reviews and tips. My wife and me did a trip from Lisbon Gare do Oriente to Porto Campanhã on an Intercidades (Intercity) train in January 2017. It was an excellent ride! As well as from Gare do Oriente to Évora and back on an Intercidades train, beautiful city! A train ride from Lisbon Rossio Station to Sintra and back was nice in September 2019. Portugal is in our hearts, as well as the Portuguese people, always friendly.
Ah lovely! I would love to visit Brazil one day 😍🇧🇷 I'm glad you liked my video! Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧👍🏻
@@NonstopEurotrip Thank you! UK deserves a 2nd visit, we've been in London in August 2018 and spent only five days there. We have enjoyed London a lot, recharged our Oyster cards twice and did a trip from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord through Eurostar - one of my dreams accomplished. I'm now 64 and am a fan of British trains and railways since 1973 (I have a small collection of OO scale models) as well as the British rock'n'roll singers & bands like The Beatles, Elton John, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd and many others. However only five days at London weren't enough to see all I would like, but some dreams were accomplished (boat ride on Thames River, pictures of HMS Belfast and London Bridge, a visit to Imperial War Museum, Tate Modern, a coffee at Waterloo Station, another excellent coffee at Shoreditch (Ozone, I liked that rostery and shop a lot), the change of guards at Buckingham Palace, ate a full English breakfast at Earl's Court and many, many other things. After pandemic we would like to return to UK to do train rides to Windsor Castle, Penzance, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and, who knows, other British Cities. Your country is so beautiful of history, traditions and modernity as well. All the best to you!
I am desperate to go to Portugal but alas I can’t this summer. I would love to stay there for a long time. I have been before, excellent video,
Thank you ☺️
@@NonstopEurotrip you are welcome.
Don't worry dude, we'll be here, we're not going anywhere xD Yeah I truly recommend visiting during the summer.. June and July if you like peace and quiet or August and September if you like crowds and partying.
I was impressed by your presentation. Especially the small pics you showed of interesting places in the towns that the train passed.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and the extra info 👍🏻🤗
Love the train. Portugal is a beautiful country and language . Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Thanks for featuring Portugal's railways as there seems so few videos. We rode a lot of the lines January 2020 and loved them. These Pendolinos are definitely great to ride. I have to say that the class 1400s sound fantastic.
Thanks! I'll be changing the 'lack of videos' over the next few months! 😎🙏🏻
Are you from England? If so, I'll remind you that the 1400s are based on a BR train. Class 20
:) From a Portuguese perspective we are sick tired of the 1400s they're really bad not comfortable and so noisy...CP is trying hard to maintain those old museum pieces rolling but the truth is they should replace them altogether
It warms my heart when I see how Europe is becoming more and more (high speed) train oriented. This is such a comfortable and efficient mean of transport and will undoubtedly very gradually replace the air transport especially when it comes to O&D traffic.
Looking forward to visit Portugal in August for 2 weeks :) Warm greetings from Bulgaria.
Greetings! Glad you liked the video ☺️
Yes but also no. Imagine starting in Amsterdam and going to Greece, some touristic city in Greece, which can well be O&D traffic but to do that by train even if it is high speed will never beat the plane- without a hyperloop system, excluding feasibility issues.
@@alexandregraca7732 well in that case make awareness among more people to take these trains, and then prices will go down by 30-40%..... I also believe time travel can be reduced to 2 hours considering 332 km with 3 intermediate stops between Porto to Lisbon, if it's really High Speed Train and the rails too.
I would NEVER do that trip by Bus! It's simply the most unconfortable, disagreable and unconvenient transport mode. Train trips booked in advance are fairly cheap and there is no way to compare with a bus or a plane, in terms of cost-benefits. Track gauge have nothing to do with national trips and there is already technology to surpass that problem (variable gauge axles). That's a non-issue. Besides, the first two North line variants will be enough to drop the trip duration from 3 to 2 hours in the near future. There isn't any problem with track maintenance, but mainly with it's old delineation and congestion. You read, congestion. The huge increase in train passengers before covid speaks for itself, in terms of people's preferences. Wise people don't prefer to be transported as cattle, if they can pay 9,5 ou 11 euros for an IC or Alfa ticket (when booked in advance).
@@alexandregraca7732 I traveled in both the Alfa and the IC since several years ago, and always paid those prices without any of the inconveniences you refered. Once booked in advance, there is no need to re-check anything. And I'm pleased to know that the other issues I mentioned are not relevant anymore. Considereng all the train drawbacks you enphasized in your previous comment, including even the Iberian gauge, that's quite a progress. 👍
Main issue on this Lisbon station; during winter it is simply freezing for users, both on platforms and on lower levels inside the structure due to frequent wind gusts and low temperatures of the season, problem not anticipated by the architect,( the spanish Calatrava) turning the all place really uncomfortable.
Wow thanks for the information!
That was exactly my question when I saw it.
To me it wasn’t that bad this winter, I’ve went to sete rios, entrecampos and oriente several times. Maybe because I’m used to Danish winters😄
Yes, Gare do Oriente is not comfortable at all, especially during the winter, I should know, I'm a commuter.
The irony of this is, there is a uncommon few of us in the world, who'd ADORE to be waiting for a train to enjoy a ride on while it's cold, crisp & nippy! And yep, I am absolutely one of those people! Now I want to go there for that experience! haha
One day you go out in Aveiro and take the "vouguinha", go until the end and go back, you can do a stop in macinhata do Vouga , they have a little museum of old trains in the station.
I've already done it! The full line including the taxi ride through the closed section 😂 video coming later this year 👍🏻
I'm sending this vid to my wife as I watch. PT is our favorite country and this looks like an angle I don't want to miss.
😁
I love this video. Very good train yes. I’m currently in Malaysia and I cannot wait to be in Portugal this late August as they are going to run new “Arco” carriage trains from renfe. 👍
Thank you! And yes I saw the Renfe coaches parked up 😎
Check their FB page for the videos and photos of the 2nd hand carriages they bought from Renfe and are refurnishing facebook.com/page/122944571222322/search/?q=arco
There are few trip reports on the Portuguese railways, so your report was a very nice surprise. The information you inserted is very accurate and the spelling of place names is very correct (except for Aveiro :-)). Well, well done. I think CP has been doing a great job refurbishing old material. The project for refurbishment of Alfa Pendular fleet seems a very successful one to me. Almost 100% Portuguese made. Great job, CP. I’m looking forward to watching other trip reports from you on Portuguese railways. Thanks and welcome to Portugal.
That was my one deliberate mistake to get extra comments 😉 I Agree, the APs are really good! Thanks for your lovely comment, more Portuguese videos soon 👍🏻😎📸
On my first visit to Portugal, visiting friends a few years ago, and travelling from Porto to Coimbra, they told me to take the Alfa Pendolino, First Class because, as a senior traveller, the fare was about half price!! Great value!! I've done the return journey three times now & it's always been very comfortable, sure, a bit noisy sometimes, but the ticket office staff at the stations, & the on-board train managers, have always been very polite & helpful. A food trolley service on the my most recent trip 3 months ago was useful and it was good to see the mid-carriage speed indicator clocking-up as we sped along on this smooth-running train. It's a great way to travel in Portugal.
It's an excellent little network. I've never had any problems unless it was a strike day 😂
Lisbon is a great city and nice station also à great journey on the high speed Pendolino trains Portugal seems like a beautiful country to visit
Yes, it was my first proper visit 🙂

I really enjoyed watching this video! My maternal grandfather was Chief of Stations for years in Portugal. My mother literally lived in train stations around Portugal growing up in the 1940's-1960's. If you ever go to the Monte Real train station, my moms family lived in one side of that station and that big house behind it belongs to my uncle Mario. My mom, dad, and I immigrated to the U.S. when I was a baby but I have visited a couple of times. The last time was in 2006 and I absolutely loved sitting outside the Monte Real station by myself listening to the leaves on the trees rustling. Most peaceful place I have ever been! Thanks for posting this and bringing back great memories! I'm hoping to visit with my mom in the next year or two. She hasn't been back since 1980.
Thank you Viviana! Wow what a lovely little story and I hope you can get back to Portugal soon, such a fantastic country! I'll have to check out Monte Real next time I'm there. Glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏🏻😁
Thanks for the video. Yes I have took the local train while staying at Cascais and it has nice view. Can't wait to visit Portugal again in the near future!
Yes it sure does ☺️
It's worth a visit to Porto's São Bento rail station, with their much beautiful tiles and their tunnels that link that station to Porto Campanhã, did some pictures and one small personal video there. A rail trip from Porto to Braga is beautiful and today the Minho's Line up to Valença is electrified. Other Portuguese cities my wife and me went were: Guimarães, Braga, Vila Nova de Gaia (crossing Douro river from Porto), Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra, Évora, Batalha, Fátima, Óbidos, Nazaré, all of them by train and/or by car. It's a beautiful country, full of history, traditions and excellent food & sweets (have you tried the famous pastéis de nata, travesseiros de Sintra and bolas de Berlim?)
Wow, I actually did most of what you said and filmed a lot of it too. Videos to come over the next few months! I loved Valença. I did visit São Bento and loved it too 😍
Boas viagens e sejam sempre bem-vindos.

Nice and informative video. I was a _Linha do Norte_ (Northern Line as we call it, the whole stretch from Lisbon to Porto) passenger many times, from 1997 up to 2006. Even made the inaugural voyage of the Alfa Pendular in the Summer of 1999, by pure chance. But made trips in just about every service there - Commuters, Regionals, Intercity, you name it. Route may not be the most scenic, but that stretch alongside the ocean always dazzled me; never missed the look over Maria Pia bridge either.
Previously, the fastest service was also called "Alfa", made essencially with the same rolling stock as the Intercity trains; so, with the entrance of this new FIAT rolling stock, they just added the "Pendular" to stress the difference. In some enthusiast circles, they also call it the CPA - _Comboio de Pendulação Activa_ (Active Pendulation Train). And what a delightful trip it is aboard this train!
And noise etiquette my friend? Please: we're latins!
And boy oh boy, you came to my beloved Douro valley! And aboard no less than one of my all time favorite train sets: a 1400 and the Swiss Schindlers!!! Also travelled there countless times, from Régua to Porto, and from Régua to Mirandela, via _Linha do Tua_ . Portugal's finest lines, without a doubt. Cheers!
Thank you for a lovely comment! The Alfa Pendulars are great! And the Douro Valley was one of my best trips every 😍 that 1400 😎😎😎😎😎😎
I'm going to be coming back from Coimbra to Lisbon in about 6 weeks. I would ride this train just for a great experience even if I didn't need the transportation. Wonderful vid.
Thanks John! I'm sure you'll love this train 🇵🇹😀
We rode on Portuguese trains only during our 1989 trip to Portugal. Took a train from Lisbon to Évora, and the another down to Faro and Tavira. Back then the tracks were in such bad shape the train would sometimes travel at a walking pace, just a few mph. EU money has since transformed travel in Portugal…high-speed trains and modern motorways for easy, faster and safer travel. But the slow back roads, small towns and slower pace are still more interesting. Portugal is my favorite travel destination.
Wow sounds like an amazing trip! Yes the rails have much improved in the last 20 years 👌
Porto Sao Bento railway station is a gem, beautiful interior. The trains on this line all run on the same tack, fast and slow trains, the fast ones overtake (presuambly in a station). Coimbra also has two stations, city centre and out of town, there is a free shuttle between the two. I travelled a few times in 2017 between the 3 cities, (Lisbon, Coimbra and Porto) dissapointed to mention on all my journeys the trains ran late.
Thanks for the info 🤠
I´ve heard that sometimes the trains can depart 1 or 2 minutes late due to some last-minute passengers that have mobility issues or very heavy and big suitcases, sadly that never happened to me I remember missing the train at least 3 or 4 times due to him departing on schedule, some of those with me standing there next to it and still they departed xD .
Other times trains can be delayed due to some issues over some point of the train tracks (accidents, malfunctions of various order, etc) but people sometimes pay a 3-star rate and expect a 5-star service.. that is normal ;))))
Wonderful train!
My aunties have been in Portugal. 🇵🇹
And they visited the two greatest cities from Portugal: Lisbon and Porto.
Cheers from São Paulo, Brazil! 🇧🇷
Thank you Rodinei! Portugal is a lovely country... and greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
Quick correction: it’s Aveiro (really beautiful city, by the way). ;) Also, you could’ve added that Oriente station was a project by Santiago Calatrava and that there are plans in place to expand it northwards in order to accommodate new and proper TGV/AVE-style high-speed lines in European gauge to Madrid and perhaps even Porto.
Well, I did take both the refurbished and non-refurbished versions of the Alfa, and while the original was almost as cool, it was indeed showing some wear and the new ones are a definite improvement. The Lisboa-Faro service is a bit less smooth and prone to issues, so a comfortable train is always a plus.
A Madrid-Lisbon high-speed line NEEDS to happen 👍🏻
It seems that AV to Porto is going to be build first than to Madrid...
Why use Standard Gauge? Wouldn't it make more sense to use Iberian Gauge, since that's what the rest of Portugal uses? Spain already has trains that can run at 300 km/h and can also change gauge between Standard and Iberian gauge, so the whole break-of-gauge thing isn't a problem like it once was.
@@wasmic5z Spain's 300kmh trains are all standard gauge, and not gauge changers.
Wow I feel inside of that train, Saludos from Puerto Rico. Great Video.
Glad you liked it 😁
The trip between Porto and Lisbon -- or vice versa -- aboard the Alfa Pendular is very comfy , taking about 2.30 hr.
Contrasting with the Alfa, an airplane only takes 40 minutes. However, the trip to the Airport, undergoing the Security-Check ritual, waiting to board the plane, moving to the take-off location, etc.
Yes, the flight, itself takes only 40 min.
But getting to the destination, the reverse process must be endured. In sum, all together the airplane-trip gets very close timewise to the Alfa service. And traveling by train, one becomes master of his own time -- we may sleep, read, work on the Portable Computer, watch a movie, go to the bar, have a few and return to the seat.
In sum, by airplane the total time is about the same. However, the time-lenght is cut up, divided in several segments. Therefore the time spent before, during and after the airplane trip is useless...
I agree! I would always take the train even if it's 1-2 hours longer, end-to-end.
And the quality of the train is better than most planes that go from Lisbon to Porto. That's actually why you see so many business people using Alfa...
I travelled on the Lisbon-Porto line in 2020, January. I made a stop-over in Entroncamento in order to visit the railway museum. Very recommended. And I stayed a few nights in Aveiro. In Aveiro you can take the narrow-gauge line to Sernada da Vouga. Unfortunately the direct narrow-gauge railway Aveiro_Espinho has been disconnected. The Espinho railway station is now underground, being part of a complete refurbishment of the main line Lisbon-Porto.. I It was since 1983 that I had not been in Portugal, but I had a great time.
I have done the Southern stretch of the Vouga line, video to come soon(ish) 😊

Not the best, but pretty good!
1:10 Its former name was "Salazar Bridge", named after the portuguese dictator
I think the Lisboa-Oriente Train Station was inaugurated together with all the brand new Western Lisbon neighbourhoods for the 1998 Universal Exposition. Is any Portuguese subscriber agree with me?

It's Aveiro, not Aviero
18:38 8.5
Yes it was inaugurated for the expo
@@AlexMalemaican It's like the 1992 Seville Expo, all the city was renovated and a new central train station (Sevilla-Santa Justa) decomissioned the other 2 major train stations (Sevilla-Plaza de Armas & Sevilla-San Bernardo (This last station was removed from its current location (It's now a commercial centre) and with that removing, the current San Bernardo station was located some hundred of metres south of it))

This is a very exciting video so far, with much useful information. I have to keep my finger on the 'K' key to be able to read it all (maybe I'm a slow reader!) What an amazing station at Lisbon!
Thank you! I do try and leave the captions up long enough for me to read them twice 😂
Obrigado! Muito bom video. Thank you, very cool video.

I think the worst part about Portuguese trains is not the trains themselves but the lack of noise etiquette as you mentioned. I usually travel with headphones. Anyways, great research you did to make this video. Thanks for coming to our country ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
The onboard jingle before the conductor makes an announcement is exactly the same as the one on the UK Javelin high speed trains, however these are made by Hitachi.
I dont know why I felt the need to point this out.
More importantly though the Estacao do Oriente looks beautiful, an despite being in Lisbon 4 years ago I had no idea of it's existence.
Haha I didn't notice that! Oriente is a lovely station but Santa Apolonia is nicer 😎
What a great video, beautiful trains and country! Thank you for sharing!
You're very welcome! 🙏🏻
Just a little FYI, the bridges that access the shoping mall and the station have been closed for more than a decade due to safety risks. No one uses them, with or without a pandemic.

When we visited continental Portugal and travelled from Lisbon to Porto in 2017, it was a funny experience: the same Pendolino trains are used in Finland and so the interior was very familiar.
Yes, and many other countries 😎
At 13:23 the name of the town is AVEIRO, not Aviero. Say; HA-VEY-RU.
You're only the 10th person to point that out 😉
Thank you nonstop eurotrip! So there you have it, it takes a long time to explain. You know it, I've already said it several times, I very often watch the old videos of the channels that I appreciate, Dylan, you, and also of course the "cab rides" how to put it, filmed by the drivers themselves . There, I was re-watching the old videos of my favorite train fanatics (Dylan, you, and all the others), and I came across this video ... that I had not seen !!! Since I did not have access to the Internet, I missed this video. So, I really liked the way you filmed, and everything. That happiness. And, what luck, in addition, we find the RUclipsur superalbas in this same video !!! Gorgeous !!! But tell me, do you plan your videos together, all the train fanatics, just to pay less and especially to exchange good plans, or is it pure luck and you each do your own? In any case, it's a pleasure to follow you all. The hardest part is finding a hotel, where to eat, where to go for a walk, etc.
Thank you Louis! We usually plan some trips together, but filming different things and share hotels etc. It obviously been more difficult with lockdowns the last 2 years so we do have more crossover than we would normally like. Our content will diversify from now on though! You should watch some of Superalbs videos 🙂🙏🏻
The Italian's Pendolino is the first "Pendolino" ever, in fact the Pendolino was created in Italy.
True that 😌
Thank you 😊
1:11 that view 😍 and great video as always mate enjoyed watching it!
Thank you Rahill 😌
That view was shot in front of Palace/Palácio das Necessidades which now hosts the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Nice train, great review! Regarding to your question... I've travelled by almost the entire Portuguese network! Greetings from Andalucía :-)
Greetings! Thanks for the comments ☺️
By 2030 we will have the TGV from Lisbon to Vigo.
Very nice video, glad you enjoyed Portugal 😁 I hope to see more Portugal and Spain videos from you
Thank you! LOADS coming up 😎
@@NonstopEurotrip Can't wait! 😍
Nice video, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and the portuguese rail system, it's great seeing you feature the Alfa Pendular in great detail. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
We made the same journey 5 years ago (but in Turistica class) as part of a group organised by Treyn. I echo all you say about the journey & was particularly impressed by the station in Lisbon.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video! Whenever I see Pendolino trains of this generation, I have to compare them with Pendolino trains of ČD (Czech railways). I like the design of the seats of those Portuguese Penolinos and also more legroom and airline-style layout in 1st class. ČD Pendolinos, on the other hand, offers 2 + 1 seating in the 2nd class.
Cheers Pete 🍻 I'm definitely going to try the Czech Pendolinos when I'm there next seeing as you talk so highly of them! 🇨🇿
All the trains shown in the video look gorgeous. Great trip report. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Unfortunately no! The pedestrian bridge at Gare do Oriente is not open during pandemic or non-pandemic times. The bridge is closed since 2003 and now works as an emergency exit from the shopping centre.
You're about the 25th person to tell me this now 😂
@@NonstopEurotrip I will be very honest with you. I tried. I tried. But I didn't find any comment about it yesterday.
Today... after your comment... on my first scroll down... BOOM! Found it!
Well, 25 votes deserve a small video edition 😅
@@ptLoudSpeaker Yeah that and I spelt Aveiro wrong throughout 😂
@@NonstopEurotrip 1) The TGV is nothing more than XIX Century based technology.
Steel wheels on a steel Track. A huge waste of energy.
The future probably belongs to an improved version of the MEG-LEV TRAINS.
An improved version will be ENERGY-FRUGAL AND FASTER THAN A TGV. And its construction doesn't require the expropriation of huge chuncks of land to install the tracks.
2) Portugal may and should improve all the Track/Network to enable its ALFA PENDULAR to reach any destination in the country.
And obviously, a TGV is able to run on an improved track of that nature -- slightly reducing its speed.
Does it make any sense to invest billions in an old technology? And by doing so, what could be accomplished?
The distance between the border and Lisbon, or Porto, is around 200 kms. In sum, 15 or 2o minutes could be "shaved" by resorting to a TGV at full crusing speed.
On the other hand, a TGV running at a slightly lower speed in that particular, improved track-segmen, would take an extra 15 minutes to reach Lisbon or Oporto
3) Makes no sense! Sweden, Norway and the USA didn't follow the TGV approach.
Far too expensive and the final-results don t justify addopting an old, expensive to run and build technology.
The future may not belong to the MEG-LEV -- time will tell.
However, rhe TGV , very expensive to build, imposes a terrible waste of land -- from an environmental view-point doesn't make any sense.
Kindly read my comment to Non-Stop Eutotrip.
I did a several-stations tour in Portugal this week as a trainspotter I am, featuring Coimbra, Aveiro, Figueira da Foz and other small countryside stations in the same line, and I have tried CP 2200 Regional trains between Coimbra and Figueira, CP 3400 Suburban trains between Avanca and Aveiro and Alfa Pendular between Aveiro and Coimbra and this evening Im going to Entroncamento with Intercidades from Abrante. I have also visited Coimbra, Porto (once again as I always do) and Aveiro, which are beautiful cities. I just love Portugal and I come here every single summer for one or two weeks. Next summer its gonna be Lisboa for tourism and traisnpotting and Porto for trainspotting
Amazing mate! I love Portuguese trains and really enjoyed my time filming there 😁🇵🇹
The escalators and elevators do not always work, they are often broken and you will have to carry your luggage ! get their early and travel light.
Oh no, sounds like a pain!
That does look a nice station and much better weather then here in England
Much nicer 😎 🌞
Was expo 98 construction
State of the art project and technology from my home country Italy, trains built by a joint venture of three companies that at that time were competitors, really nice design and pleasant sound and outstanding travel experience... This train is just perfect for me
It's so relaxing travelling by train in Portugal. Always clean and confortable. Really a shame falling asleep everytime! :)
Haha I know that feeling 🤣
Awesome video. Planning on visiting Lisboa in 2022.
Do it, it's amazing!
At 2:49, The bridges are permanently closed not even before covid. You can go to Vasco da Gama Shopping mall through the underground pass or through the street.
Thanks for the information 😊
Great video, high quality. I was born near Coimbra...
Thank you Tony 🙏🏻
those rakes of diesel locomotives of the 1400 series and refurbished schindler coaches, constitute a sort of tourist offer on the Douro valley railway under the brand name "Miradouro". With several departures per day, they are substitutes for DMUs (with AC) because the schindlers, with their wide and fully open windows, proved to be especially appreciated by customers and particularly suited to the characteristics of the traversed region.
It's an amazing route, I loved doing it. Video will be on the channel soon 😄
@@NonstopEurotrip can't wait. Thanks for the feedback.
@@NonstopEurotrip those rakes of 1400+schindlers are iconic to the Douro valley railway since the 60s and they've been reintroduced recently. Together with the general refurbishment, some of the coaches were (and are being) painted in the original colour schemes. There is even one in blue/silver almost ready for deployment.
@@ruipina5636 wow amazing 😍
PORTUGAL is beautifull
Absolutely! 😍
Lisboa Oriente must be one of the most beautiful and majestic modern stations I've seen. The mix of functionality and style, and the brightness of its open spaces... it's just incredible. Feels like the perfect choice for such a location.
Congratulations from spain to our Iberian brothers, like many other things that Portugal does better, CP could teach a lesson or two to our corrupt and useless Renfe managers...
I prefer majestic old stations tbh 😎
@@NonstopEurotrip haha me too, but with this one I can make an exception
Hi everyone seeing this video. It's a thrill and a joy to finally see a video from Portugal (Lisbon in this case). It fils me with joy (not hard to imagine why). The train/metro interface station seen in the beginning is Gare do Oriente station (western Station) and was built for the international exibition 1998
I have lots more to come from Portugal 😁🇵🇹
Never seen someone actually film my home town on a RUclips video. Quite a surreal experience.
Greetings from Aveiro, not "Aviero" 🤣
Lol thanks. I think now 50 people have told me I spelt Aveiro wrong 😂
What a great video. So sad to see that the express train does not stop in Caldas da Rainha, but happy to see Aveiro.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Wow Max … those trains look great after the refurbishment considering that the carriages are 20+ years old. Thx for taking us along!
You're welcome Rob, as ever 👍🏻😁
Mid-life upgrade, they call it. They're basically stripped and rebuilt incorporating modern technology and materials. Let's hope some time in the next 20 years they'll finally be able to stretch their legs with sustained 220km/h in new track instead of yo-yoing between express and suburban speeds.
Wow beautiful country wish I could afford to visit there
It's a lovely place 🙂
Actually a trip to Portugal is more affordable than other European countries. By the way, there are fewer tourists, and most locals do speak decent English.
Me too Deborah. Let’s go and split expenses lol
Portugal is affordable for almost any US or EU citizen.
Beautiful train, we have nothing like that in Canada. In North America, we are too car-dependent. Our trains suck.
One day....!
I took this train from Lisbon to Coimbra in 2007. It was wonderful!
Excellent, they're still great! 😁
I have been to Portugal before but not Lisboa I will have to go since the trains look pretty awsome!
Yes they are ☺️
Yay! finally a video about our country's trains :)
Yay 🤩🙏🏻
Amazing video. I've ridden on this route a couple of times. You could however have written Aveiro right. It's misspellt throughout the video.
Deliberate mistake 😚
We are considering doing a weeks holiday in Portugal doing a twin centre break in Lisbon and Porto,, having watched this video will definitely be looking to do the journey between cities this way 👍👍
Excellent! It's such a lovely country 😊
couple of days ago government announced the order to buy 117 new trains to keep all the fleet up to date
Nice! Some trains do need an update 👍🏻
I really love Portugal. Lisboa is very nice
It absolutely is 😊
@@NonstopEurotrip are you from Portugal? Pastel de nata very nice
@@svenloftlive9295 I'm British, but pastel de nata is my favourite 🤤
A Lovely video and the trains looks very nice and comfortable
Thank you Brian! It's very comfortable, yes 😁
For a complete contrast, take a throaty old DMU from Porto to Valença, 2 hours of belching and belly-aching from the train, but a beautiful landscape, farms, vineyards, and then a great coastal run before going up the Minho with Galicia on the other side, and the fabulous fortress of Valença at the end of it.
I've done the trip from Porto to Valença, been to the fort, and then went on to Vigo. I really enjoyed it ☺️
Last time I rode on one of these was in 2017, just when the first units were being refurbished. They really needed it, it was still a comfortable train but everything felt old and worn.
Yes, they're much better now 🤗
thanks for the video , i am taking the Alfa Pendular next month from Porto to Faro , so it was very nice to watch this video !
You're very welcome ☺️

You'll love it I'm sure ☺️
Beautiful trip on the Pebdolino!! And the station in Lisbon is gorgeous!!😀😀😀♥️♥️
Thanks Scott! Portugal has some fantastic stations 😀
@@NonstopEurotrip thanks😀😀♥️♥️
Great video! I am portuguese and the only trip i made in Alfa was Lisboa-Faro and it was a great experience! Just one small correction: the bridge in Oriente was only open for a few months after inauguration because it wasn't safe for crossing - it's been closed ever since
Edit: i think there was some legal trouble alongside the bridge's safety 😅 classic Portugal
Haha ok thanks for the information 🙏🏻
The passarelle bridge to VdG shopping mall ? It was open from 1998 (Expo when it was inaugurated) till 2017...wouldn't call it a few months.
Portugal! 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
😍😍😍
From Lisbon to Vila Franca de Xira you filmed the wrong side 😅. The view would be nice.
Don't worry I got it on the way back 🤣
Bem vindo a Portugal.
Thanks.
Obrigado meu amigo 🙏🏻🙂
A great video and very informative. I only hope the graffiti hooligans don’t destroy these beautiful trains, or the beautiful stations. Vandalism with a spray paint can, can never be art.
Furtunately the IC and Alfa Pendular are never covered with graffiti only the suburban ones sometimes
Thank you so much! I agree about the graffiti 👍🏻🙂
I have traveled on this route. Fantastic journey. Love from India
Brilliant isn't it 😎
My beloved Portugal ❤️
