My first bike was a 1975 XLH and I was 18, now I'm 65 and I've had or ridden just about everything and the Ironheads, especially the 1000's, are still my favorite to ride and I have a '73 I'm restoring now. Everyone should own a Sporty, they embody the essence of motorcycles. I'm fortunate I found one that is mostly stock. So many of these bikes were modified heavily.
Every time I see a sporty, I want to take it home with me. Great looking ride and no doubt, sportsters are legendary.
I had a 77 that I put a hard tail on, stretched and lowered changed the oil tank and painted the tank & fenders high gloss black. It was a good ride and cheap to build. Unfortunately I had to sell it to pay for a lawyer.
Awesome little Ironhead Ken beautiful. And a 1973. The year I turned 18. Good times I want to go back.
The XLCH was a kick start only motorcycle. This is a XLH with the electric starter. The 74 was the last for the right hand shifter. The front brake caliper is 74 or later. A really nice bike for certain.
I used to play with those old iron Head motors .They are becoming more rare
I love the 73 sporsters. Your is much different than mine as you know.
Sweet 73' love the ole Ironheads!
God Bless America! I totally feel you Brother! ❤️🇺🇸🔄
Bikes gorgeous. Love the older Harley's 🔥🔥
Reminds me of the show Then came Bronson used to be glued to the tv once a week
From the uk... it sounds great from 73 til now looks nice.
Lovely paint job , good looking motorcycle and one hell of a cool guy
I am born in 1976 and I love my 1976 XLCH which i daily drive in the summer. If you keep up with maintenance they are super reliable in my opinion.
They get kind of expensive, though. Here in Germany a solid one with a rebuilt motor goes for 20,000 bucks.
Love that color.
4:14 and 6:27 RIP headphone users lol
Lovely little ride.
beautiful simply stunning
Very popular in the UK at the moment , this is a good un regards London UK 🇬🇧🏴
Nice bike except the bars lol but In my opinion the KNUCKLE HEAD was by far the best looking Harley engine ever made .
Dude's just trying to make a living, even if that means trying to sell to posers and/or squids.
My first bike was a 79. Sold it because it wasn't reliable and didn't have money for a rebuild. Miss that bike....
thats nice.year i was born too.right side shift take a few miles to get used to
74 was last year of right hand shift. 75 was right hand but set up with linkage to make it left hand shift
Sweet ride
I owned a brand new XLCH when I was still in high school in 1971. Back then the CH was Harley's bad ass cycle. Cook Neilson from Cycle magazine actually made the quarter in high 12's around then with a 71 stock CH. The first thing I noticed ON THISit has a XLH oil tank
Only difference between the XL and XLCH was the tank size and kick start. CH had kick start and a smaller tank.
Awesome AMF made the best Sportsters this is my current ride mines yellow with bluish purple pinstripe flames👍😎
Pure torque monster
I have a 72 XLCH stock as a rock. We saved it from going to England
Love my Ironhead
The left side of the engine is even nicer looking IMO. Where do you get your SAE information about engine life? Is there a link to it?
That sound fukin awesome man
🤘
I want that
Bars got go it's a sportster.
Lmao. Some people cant afford a road glide or road king and are bigger and need bigger handlebars guy
Lol your a fuxkin idiot
74 was the last year of right hand shift. I own one.
75 was
Nice bike. I stay away from electric only, prefer kick only. Again, nice machine.
4:16 glitch in the MATRIX.
The first thing I noticed on this bike is that it has a XLH oil tank and an electric start which I don't remember ever been put on a XLCH. Maybe Harley rebranded the XLH(known as the slower Sportster) an XLCH after they boosted it to 1000. Does anybody know?
Nelson G I think that’s just a typo, in 1973 the XLH was the electric start Harley (I’ve got one, It says XLH under the headlight) the XLCH was still the kickstart, as far as I know they just phased out the XLCH and they all became XLH. I could be wrong tho
Man! Wish you were closer in Ohio. Looks like the two Sturgis were gone.
What part of the buckeye?
I know the bikes long gone now but just seeing this video for the first time. FYI thats not a 73 front end. Its missing the 73 only "banana" caliper.
That red is gorgeous On It! But Is that A harley davidson badge on the tank Or decal?
Decal
I have a 73 as well. Where do u get parts for this bike
I ride a 73 iron and get my stuff from jp cycle
better than a moden 883? He is correct mine is 4sale in England prices are thru the roof here !
Last year for the right hand shift? I don't think so! The 74 also had a right hand side shift! THAT was the last year for a right hand shift Homie!
I have a 72 Iron Head, building a Hard Tail
I don't see a speedometer
Om syuppa gghteehnt !
No meters?
No, you just listen for when to shift
The police will let you know if you're going too fast. 😀
not a xlch . CH models are kickstart only
I have a 72 that's both 😳
Put some 50w in that thing
5k or less
This is what folks think about when you talk about classic hogs.
number 1 oil leakers
People hating on the bars in the comments make no sense, im not gonna ride my 74 a thousand kilometres on a roadtrip with the standard droopy buckhorns, moderate size apes all the way for long trips.
Lol,3/4 of that trip will be on trailer 😅
@@robr5786 Not if it's built to the right tolerances with the right brand parts. Of course the Ironhead design has its faults but a LOT of the issues people had with them were down to rebuilding/repairing them incorrectly and not to the right specifications or by using low quality parts.
Beautiful bike, sounds great, but it is not an XLCH. It's an XLH. Nothing wrong with that, but let's identify it correctly. XLCH's are kick start, XLH's are electric start. Even the lower triple tree on this bike very clearly says "XLH". And I agree with everything you say about old Ironheads - I've owned and ridden one since 1978. You've got a really nice one here. But please, lose the apes...
The "3A" at the start of the vin # is what makes it an XLH, XLCH is "4A". You can't always tell by the elec. start, kidney oil tank and bigger battery because some were converted over when the owner got tired of kicking it. Yes, apes look horrible on an otherwise beautiful little ironhead!!!
Chicks love em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool bike but Iron heads aren’t worth a damn, 2-3k running all day. Maybe 5k if it’s prestige original paint, which this isn’t. They are trying to sell it like it’s worth a million bucks.
You look way to big for the bike, how tall are you?
The reason Americans don't want to pay a premium price for a 50 year old bike is because you can buy a brand new one for what people want for an old bike that you can't ride without breaking down...don't get me wrong, I love classic iron, but if I have to pay the same money as a new one, or at the very least a much more recent used bike, that old bike will keep sitting there...I had a 1974 ironhead...wouldn't have another one if it was free...couldn't get past the end of the driveway good without something breaking or falling off...or both...never again...
20k new bike is worth 5 k in 15 years. 10k classic is worth 20 in 15 years. Its an investment not a toy. IRON-HEAD is a great engine IF built right
exaust simpl song
Not sure what it is, but that thing looks gay!!
