  • A piece of history! Have a look and hear the story behind the first Harley-Davidson ever assembled in the York, Pa. factory. After Harley moved its production from Milwaukee to York, this XLCH Sportster was assembled on February 2nd, 1973. Second and current owner Mark Duell bought it in 1975 and did not know the special history behind this machine until 2011. He says an appraiser was unable to give him a value because there are no comparables. He hopes to put this bike in a museum. Check it out!

You are a saint to be willing to lend that beautiful machine to be enjoyed by everyone. I was assembled in March of '73 and you sportster is in much better shape 😉

AMF saved Harley and designed possibly the best motor ever in the Evo.

Had a '73 XLCH in that same color, that I bought in December 1972, so it must have been built in Milwaukee. I loved that bike, and had it for 24 years, but to be honest, it left a lot to be desired. It was the first year for the front disc brake, which didn't work all that well, and the caliper was way too big. Harley had a recall to weld on frame supports at the top of the rear downtubes, because they cheapened the way the frame was built. It was also the year that the engine went from 900cc(actually 883) to 1,000(997). The cylinders could only be bored out 25 thousands over on a top end rebuild -- I believe they used redesigned cylinders on later '73s, which could be bored our to 50 thousands over.

You need to get rid of that aftermarket chrome chain guard. Otherwise, very nice motorcycle

Why not 0001? Isn't it number 1? If this is the first Sportster and the VIN is 0000, is the second Sportster's VIN 0001?

very cool looking bike, but the old iron heads were a pita, I had a 1977 stock xlch, that kickstart could be a bear at times, lots of little leaks, allota heat from that motor and quite a few parts would shake loose, they were not a bike you could count on all the timelike the newer evo ones!

Something does not look right on the front brake line crossing the fender like that. Can’t imagine it came that way and could be dangerous

The brake hose should pass under the lower tree, it is routed incorrectly.

@shakenbake2231 a group of investors purchased The company from AMF in 1981. The first year of the Evo was 1984. The math doesn't add up.🤔

Have you noticed how many Desings on the Pan America were copied from Buell?
