My Casio collection has reached half a century and still going strong including the often overlooked Analog watches (Enticers and Edifices).
Since I look for great deals before buying them, none of my Casios is above $100.
As a Casio addict, I can’t agree more with the statement “ Casio is a God tier” brand !

A 1977 Casiotron was not cheap (I could not find data on the first model from 1974). You have to remember that is was new technology back then, both integrated circuits and LCD displays were leading edge tech. I dug up some advertisements from 1977 that listed prices (RRP):
The Casiotron X-1 from 1977 had an RRP of £129.95 in the UK. That's around £740 in 2024 money.
A German ad from the same time lists a price range between DM400 and DM900 for different models. In 2024 Euros that's about €600-€1350.
For reference: the first commercially available Analog quartz watch, the Seiko Astron from 1969, cost around 1.6 million yen ($10,900) in 2024 money.
Casio was certainly on the forefront of making the new watch technologies available to more and more people, but it took time to get to the $10 level. It's the only watch company that can sell you a watch at $20 and at $4000.

@ge48421 Thanks for your comment (and your research!) New tech always needs time for production time and methods to improve. I think that places it at around half the cost of an Omega around the time I remember the 'How can a man in a $27000 suit settle for $235 watch' advert. So potentially still undercutting some of the market but just not by the distance seen today.

I love Casio! The last time I bought it for myself MT-G B3000 Silver and Gold. The quality of these watches is hard to match.
