I’m one of those skaters you’re talking about in this video. Thanks Debbie 🥰 I don’t get as many sessions in as I’d like, but I make the most of my time when I do get out. If skating smoothly is what I do until I get more advanced, so be it. I’m gonna enjoy my session!

You should write books on rollerskating. Tutorials, children's books, etc. You are an excellent teacher, you use your words in ways it makes sense. Thank you for your awesome tips. My sibling and I were self taught. Love the graceful type of skating.

Love the way you teach! I am past middle age (65) and back on my skates after (ahem) a few years. It is amazing what muscle memory can do...but I also have to rebuild some of those muscles! Also, I am a little more careful as I skate (especially outside) and wear my wrist guards in the rink and full pads, guards and helmet outside. But I tell you, the therapeutic part of it is still amazing! Thank you for your teaching!

I love yu!! You truly r the OG!! I live in upstate ny and sadly there are very few places to get ya rolla on!:(. Someone did open up a rink last November, but why why there is no wooden floor?!?! Idk why. It’s this weird blu-ish, plastic-ey stuff. Slick as💩 but not a true rink in my eyes. My dream is to someday make it out your way and skate there. Getting back into it after years, got into it , three years ago I got in car accident then had some weird medical thing where I couldn’t walk for two weeks. Id even know what that was about but I just got a new pair of good skates and I’m going where I can. Your videos are so so so helpful. My pandemic time was spent working and working. I had no option for self isolation and staying home. But now I’m going skating each chance I can. You are the queen!! Ty for all your talent and your time and education in a way that doesn’t make people want to nap !!!! Love you!

love love love this - right now i am trying to figure out the grapevine, but outside of that, i want to get a smooth backwards to forwards transition , for when im vibin and skating slower, and one for when i have a bit more speed -
i know to go on the outside edge of say, the left foot while going backwards, while picking up the right, turning head, shoulders, hips then putting right foot down - but sometimes i feel like im going to fast to do that and need like a quick turn , or pivot or something - idk , but a vid on that or just tips in comments would be wonderful

    • @jessgirr1728

My favorite way to go backwards to forwards at speed is a 180 jump. It sounds intimidating and looks impressive but it's actually easy and super simple. No footwork to get lost in. Just a clean jump.

Really enjoy all your videos and have learnt loads. I seen this one a few weeks back and thought that's a keeper :-) Strange thing is I find this harder to nail than other moves, even skating backwards, that's another strange thing I'm a much better more confident backwards skater than forwards. I'll get it slowly, fingers crossed. Thanks for your inspiration.

I'm trying to practice switching sides. I don't do very well at skating to the right. My struggle seems to be getting the proper balance and it feels very awkward. And I do feel myself gripping my toes into my skate to feel like I am more in control. I do have the proper size skates. But because I am really nervous about falling and turning corners, I think my natural reaction is to grip really hard with my toes. I will try this the next time I go out. I've only just found a decent place to skate, so it's really the first time since I started re-learning to skate back in June of last year, that I actually have any room to skate at all.

@dirtyschoolofskate /Deborah, Do you have any videos on truck tightness? Every other video I watch just says "do what's comfortable" but it would be really helpful to see "if your foot does this when you apply pressure, it's too loose/tight" kind of video. I once saw something on tiktok where a person was doing sort of a c-step and talking about being able to do "this" with your foot easily, but I deleted it accidentally. I figured you'd have some good tips tho.

Question....I'm relearning how to roller skate, so I think I'm a beginner. I don't skate real smooth...I'm at times jerking, my left leg sometimes seems to stick to the floor, and I'm thinking I need that invention that I see you at times use to help beginners. Should I invest in one of these things, I don't even know what's the proper name for it. But it has wheels on the bottom and I think it's made of some type of metal. And I do want to learn how to skate smoothly, but my balance is very challenging.
