I’m a newbie so I’ve been watching roller skating tutorials and recently became a subscriber. This past Saturday I was roller skating at the beach, I finally made it to some basketball courts where some girls where skating so I decided to sit on a curb and watch. After a while I noticed this one girl who was skating literally like a pro me and my bf were watching in admiration lol, then the girl came up to me and encouraged me to go skate with them & it was freakin Dirty Deborah herself!! 😭 I was too shy to go skate with them cause I’m such a newbie lol I was embarrassed but honestly her approaching me totally made my day 💖 what a genuine thing to do, so Deborah if you read this I just wanna say thank you!
Thank you Deb! I struggled through this video, but by the second watch things were a bit easier. I know this is an old one, but these practices sessions are already making a huge difference for a newbie like me ❤
Just getting back into skating as an adult (45F). I skated as a kid, but was not actually taught. So hubby and I are taking lessons at the local rink and your videos are such a big help. This what to practice video is ssssooooo helpful. Thank you for your videos and sharing your knowledge.
I am one of those who didn’t know what to practice in my house (until I get some protective gear) so I would just go back and forth from my front to back doors, lol 😅 I think you were thinking of me when you made this! It’ll be my daily “skate workout” video, ha! Mind you, I JUST turned 40, been married almost 19 years and have 7 children... I’ve never successfully skated before in my life and I want to learn so me and hubby can skate together! He watches your vids with me and he’s excited for me to learn 😊 Bought me skates for my bday 🥰 Thanks for what you do! Much love from Mississippi 😉
Kudos to you Candace! I used to skate way back when I was around 18 years old. That is 38 years ago! I starded skating again last summer! And I can tell you; skating is not like riding a bike! My body did not have that muscle memory you have after biking several years... This was like starting from the beginning again! And then we have winter... Lot's of snow and nowhere to skate except inside my tiny house... My biggest space give me room for about three strides... I wish I had someone to skate with though! Good luck on your skating journey! Love and light from Norway!

Yeah, I watched a lot of videos before coming here. I loved how she knows the technical stuff and make us comfortable at the same time. I like to think about the snack area (tight), as you said, goodbye negativity!
I'm a newbie and am soaking up all the videos. I'm 66 and don't want to hurt myself. A helmet and pads are a must for me. You've touched on so many issues...like what will others think, fear, embarrassment and it has helped me know my feelings are pretty common. Practice, practice! High beams up, fun zone down. That's my mantra. Thank you so much.
I think another video that would be helpful is a recovery video. Like things to do after your done skating to help with soreness and tightness in the legs
For the first time in my LIFE, I went to a safe public space last night & skated! Although I was unsteady, I had your voice & lessons running thru my head...."fun zone down, arms out!". Tonight, I'll bring my iPad so I can play lessons while I practice.
I started practicing in my garage, fear, pads, stick, and all. I kept repeating, 'Dirty said practice 10/15 minutes a day'. After the first 2 days, I have been practicing an hour a day, no more stick. I can see the improvement in just one week! Thank you for these videos.
Thanks for this Dirty Deborah!! Watching this video just dusted off all of those cobwebs from derby practices 10 years back and a hundred pounds ago. But you know what? Because of you, I dusted off my old 265s and ordered some new bearings to put into my Route 70s that I never used--and you bet I'm gonna go get my snacks tight and pick a cheek! You're a rockstar!! LET'S ROLLLLLL!!!!
This is now my go-to video for getting my posture and balance correct for once and hopefully finally feel somewhat comfortable on my skates. It’s been a while, so now, at 42, I’m starting all over again. Thank you for your awesome lessons!
I can’t wait to try these practice exercises! And I like the comment from other viewers. Especially one from 66 year old since I am 59. I would definitely suggest the padded shorts. You can find on Amazon. Saved me from a fracture on my bottom. They work!
Fun zone down!! Lol!!! love💕💕💕 your coaching style! Your humor is just joyfilled and super cool!! You make learning FUN!! And understandable! Stellar!!!! I truly LIVED at Rollertown Skating Rink, Camillus, NY in the 1970’s-80’s ( near Syracuse , NY) we were known as the “Rollertown Rowdies!” Lol spandex pants n all!! To date one of my most memorable chapters in my life thus far! Rollertown unfortunately is now a Walmart mega store parking lot now :( However in the town I’m currently in ... Heading to the local rink this wknd FINALLY since all this hullabaloo with the 🦠!! Every time I see you do a spin I expect Wonder Woman to appear😉(though you are a Wonder Woman with all your amazing tutorials). Watching you skate is mesmerizing. I am learning so much. I am hoping I will be ready when my local rink reopens.
Im returning to skating after decades of being away, I skated every day through my teens, moved to roller blades in my 20s. Then life got busy, then a brain tumor and surgery took my balance center from one ear. I've decided that with a ton of protective gear and your vids and tons of practice I'll get back to it!
I bloody love these videos I am very much a beginner at the ripe age of 33 and videos like this have been my saving grace. I recommend your videos to everyone and always end up smiling when watching them!! Thank you x
Thank you for these lessons and encouragement! It had been about 20 years since I put on a pair of skates and you’ve helped me to skate with confidence. You have such a gift and you are fun to watch!💕🛼
Thank you, Deborah! This is really good. I hadn't realized I was missing out on doing the one foot balance practicing and turning on the spot. 15 minutes is the perfect amount of time too!! 🥰🥰
These videos are brilliant for learning in my kitchen 🤣 I'm feeling so dense though, have no idea how you're going backwards, I just keep staying still/slipping 🤣 Gonna keep practicing though, I'm determined. You're ace, thank you so much for helping this beginner in her journey!
Love it! Why do I feel like I just had leg day at the gym, just from watching my legs are burning, lol. Excellent as always. This is for sure a go to for a refresher for those of us just returning to skating. Thanks for the quick and dirty, Deb!
Haven't skated in about 25 years . Have Fallin a lot ouch and boy it gets scary. But you're so RIGHT about turning my head makes such a MAJOR difference ! And every sport I've ever done says turn your head the direction and looking where you want to go is always a fundamental ! Applied it to skating as you suggested and wow helps a lot. Still shaky but hope to take lessons after covid-19. 😍
Hi Déborah it was really important for me to see you as you start to walk backwards on roller skates. Also in this class of yours, how to balance the pace just with the help of a foot, I will also try. Wishes a big hug, a good day on Sunday.
Good little practice session there, Debs! I do not have room for more than two bubles either way... I can just skate back and forth. I do not have room for a circle - not even a small one... lol But I do love watching you doing circles though - and dreaming about having that fabulous floor of yours!!! Love and light from Norway!
I've just started taking roller skating lessons and they're not half as helpful as you! Thanks for giving me a structured practice session that I can really use--"This is me looking down." Yep, You nailed it! : )
Diiirrrttyyyy!!! You've gone done it again! :-D you always give me So Much Hope!! Thank you So Much!!! All of your videos, especially beginner ones, are absolutely priceless!! Muah!
Thank you for these exercises! I was postponing learning because of how horrific pandemics are where I live, and I have small space. But now I know I can practice at home, so, out of excuses!
Miss D - Fantastic idea for skate practices. Good for all levels! Largely because of your vids I have been doing backward crossovers and nailing it! Takes dedication and practice. Thank you so much!
Love your videos! I feel like I am really in class with you. You personality is so much fun. Helped me a learn a lot with practice! Drill it 'till you kill it! Keep em coming!
I have to learn not to look down! It does feel weird because I haven’t been on skates in forever. Definitely have to get use to wearing them again. 😊 thank you for the videos very helpful
Good practice session with a variety of different moves. At the moment I'm getting better at going forward. I hope to get better at spinning, going backwards and more.
Good morning my friend love love your video, After 30+ year without skating i took my granddaughter and wife to Astro skate in orlando, fl. Just forgot how much fun it was ,but also forgot the basics. So im back on the wheels. thank you for your video love ya.

I don't think i could appreciate your vocabulary and well explained tutorial more than i do. As a hoop dancer i know once the head looks down it throws my entire line of posture. My biggest beginning issue i can't break is trying to use my skates as if I'm on roller blades. Grateful to have found a wonderful practice video!!!
This video is perfect - exactly what i need to up my skating practice! Thanks for this and all of your great videos - they are really helping me improve fast... and the snack area is getting tighter :D

Did a practice session where I focused on keeping my knees bent and snack area tight and found new muscles.

walking backwards on an incline (i use my treadmill) for 5-10 minutes. emphasis on walking until you can build up speed
epsom salt baths helps too
