I already know how to do both frontwards and backwards crossovers and I’m sitting here watching this like it’s the latest Marvel movie release. *insert popcorn* Deb is just THAT cool.
You have inspired a bunch of Ladies here in Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦 we are watching and practicing until we can Roller Skate together! ( 30. - 70 year olds I might add ❤️❤️
Good to hear, because I’m 54 yrs old. And sometimes think 🤔 well only if I had started younger:-(. I’m hanging in there with the help of Dirty Debs teaching videos:-)
Hey Dirty, I just wanted to thank you for everything. You are the reason why I started rollerskating and didn’t give up after 2days. I learned so so much from your videos and because I’m still learning I’m really happy when I see a new video of you. 🌸 One day I’m gonna go to that rollerskating center, hope I’ll see you there 😁 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 ✨
Hi Debbie. I'm 46 years young and into day 3 of roller skating! Because of your brilliant tutorials and great sense of humour I'm doing bloody great! My grandson and the kids on my street have now started roller skating! Lots of love from Northern Ireland! ❤💃
Every time you break it down so flawlessly. It's always informative to watch your videos, regardless of the level of skating. And aw, Xavier is such a cutiepie. 😁🤣
When I was 4 I used to roller skate at my brother’s birthday party’s. I stoped because of school and now you gave me new inspiration to start again! I haven’t been able to afford a pair but I can’t wait to get one!
I got my crossovers on my second day skating thanks to your videos! I was so excited I started cheering by myself in the empty schoolyard at 10pm 😂 Went to the rink the next day to show off. Your progression drills are so helpful!
Went skating at a local rink on Saturday, doing crossovers and had a bad fall. I’m bruised, but no broken bones! Already planning my next outing, maybe with pads this time 😂 Thanks for putting up the vid!
I love doing crossovers when I’m at my harbourside car park skating rink. I feel like I’m going really fast! If it’s a very good day I like to practice going the other way round as well, just because I enjoy the challenge. It does feel wrong, but in a good way.
Great video Dirty! Please keep these lessons coming, I started skating 2 months ago and through your lessons you have literally been my skating teacher! I love that I have a series of structured lessons that progressively get more advanced that I can follow and watch again and again! You are amazing and so inspiring!! Much love from Greece xoxo
I finally did it today!!! The crossover is now in my tool belt. My husband bought me roller skates for my birthday in April. First time back on sakes in 23 years. Was nervous to do the cross over in my youth and was still nervous at 36. But this video, and all your other videos helped me break it down!! **Tip** to get myself comfortable with lifting my back foot I would practice it in scissors. Super helpful!! Anyway. Finally pulled off the crossover today and I'm super excited about it!!
This breakdown really helped. I’ve watched so many crossover tutorials including some of your others. I wasn’t quite sure if I was on the right track. This really broke it down. Thanks!
I am soooo grateful for your videos, Deb!!! I decided to start skating again after a 40 year break and because you are such an excellent teacher, I believe I’m going to be successful! Thank you SO very much!!!
This is a great tutorial. I've been doing the little scooter pushes, but I'm ready to start doing extend and hold. This breakdown makes it very understandable! Also, love the animal print leggings!
I love you Deborah!! Thank you very much for this tutorial, is brilliant (and funny) 🙃. I'll keep practicing. The other day I went to a children's rink in the sports center of my city and skated there. I wanted to do tricks, but I couldn't slide well (I had a lot of grip since it was an asphalt surface) and I didn't dare. Bigger hug from Uruguay. You are awesome!!
You have been helping me so much!! I just LOVE your personality!! You make me laugh, but more than anything, skate properly!!! Hugs!! ❤ I can't wait to get my tank top that I just ordered ordered!!
Because of you, I’m working on transitioning and it’s getting smoother and smoother. I’m also not so scared to fall because of you. I know how to fall. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I watch you daily. 28 years old in week too!!! I feel so good. I do at least an hour a day. Thank you! Please keep teaching.
I've finally felt comfortable with crossovers yesterday at the rink. Felt it out and figured out my weight was too far behind. So yes skating with your weight forward and being able to control that left outside edge is crucial. This video is spot on as always. I also found while helping my husband run some reverse skate drills in the center of the rink. That I can easily do forward to reverse transitions in the center practice area, or out at my empty tennis courts we practice at over and over. But when I try to do them skating in the main outer lane with the public skate. I just freeze up or over rotate. A little case of the yips I'm trying to get past. Safe area i can spin either way, skate backwards, carve backwards, groove and mix up which ways I twist or "crab skate" as i call it leading in to a transition. Add the risk of possibly kicking a child or another new skater trying to improve into my skate zone and I just freeze up. Amazed at the skaters who can freely weave through the crowds backwards and also while dancing. Something to work on down the road. For now I'm just focusing on getting as comfy on quads and rink skating as my young self was when I was cruising out on the streets on inlines back in the day. Just not going quite as fast, i was a bit of a speed seeker. Long story short, yes get those edges comfortable. Adjust trucks so they feel comfortable as well so they feel confident to know how much lean equals how much turn, and with weight forward. Think of it as Stepping forward like going in to a jog, balls of feet equal nimble, mobile, agile. Not leaning back and carefully touching the foot forward like you're about to step on glass. Step confidently forward, stride, strut, saunter into that corner.
Love these lessons. Itching to get outside when the snow melts, but for now its back and forth in my living room. Even though I don't have room for cross overs I'm practicing my edges! thank-you so much for your lessons Dirty!
Love this! I love your personality and the way you demonstrate the move is easy to understand. I grew up roller skating and miss it like crazy. I want to get back on skates again but there are not a ton of rinks where I live. You motivate me!
Went out to practice this today. I can “drive my tiny car” really well. I’m scared to move to the next step! It’s amazing how much you can turn by looking and pressing on your left outside edge! I was like, “WOW! This really works!”
I can't wait to get back in the rink to practice this. I have been sorta doing this but leaning my upper body into the turn is a game-changer! Feels infinitely more comfortable.
Woo hoo, just made it the rink today for session and lesson and it was AMAZING meeting everyone. Thank you so much Dirty for all the excellent videos and encouragement to get back on wheels. Looking forward to the journey.
Thank you so much, love from Scotland 🏴 I’ve started teaching 3-11s to skate and your videos have been a god send!! Everyone’s favourite is tiny car 🚘 I’m so excited we get to use it for another skill 🎉 I’d love to see more videos of you in classes😊
Not only is this great instructionally, but can we talk about how cool Dirty looks doing crossovers *slowly!?* Not even fast, SLOW. Skating can look good at pretty much any speed, I gather thus far xD
I wish I had these video's to learn how to skate when I was in my 20's. I'm going to show my grandchildren and I'm sure they will pick up easily. Thank you for these video's.
Hi Debbie ..I think you're amazing I'm 49 and live in the Caribbean. I'm now learning to skate and I am learning from all your videos, keep up the good videos. I practice home in the house and when I'm confident enough I'll go outside. Amazing videos❤..I practice every day for at least 10 minutes 😅
Thanks you so much for this video! I have been not wanting to do these because I always feel like I was going to fall, right after this video I grabbed my skates and tried it and sure enough I did it! Thank you so much!!! 💕
I was struggling with this in class today, your explanation of it was so much easier to follow. I'm going to be muttering tiny car next class, I can imagine it already. Thank you.
I re-watch your videos all the time. When I think I've got it sussed I come and learn that no! No I haven't. Where was your body weight!!! LOL Go back and practice again. I console myself with the fact that I have improved so much from when I started. Still working on not good footing it though! Transitioning on the right leg BLOWS MY MIND every time. Brain just melts. LOLOLOL What I've learnt over all is that - if you just want to throw on some skates and move. You can do that quite successfully eventually. BUT if you want to skate like Deb and flow so gracefully it takes HARD WORK and HOURS of practice. Really. PRACTICE .
I managed my first cross-overa little while ago! I've been so scared to try bc when I first did them I was outside and landed on my tailbone. Went to a rink 2 hours away and felts safe enough to try and got good going anti-clockwise ^^
Finally got to skate yesterday after not skating for months and took a hard tumble on my shoulder thanks to a pebble ;(. Needless to say, I can't wait to go back out to learn how to do crossovers now!
I take photos of my skating injuries and add them to the album titled ‘skate’. It also includes photos of the scenery on my walk to the car park I skate on (which is near the sea and surprisingly beautiful for a car park), as well as pictures of my skates and a couple of very short videos of me skating and one of my shadow skating! They all remind me of how glad I am that I came back to roller skating before it was too late. I’m 57 but I’m still bouncing instead of breaking and for that I’m grateful. I do curse at pebbles sometimes, I swear they move on their own...
Jazz hands 🤣🤣🤣. I think I do that lol sometimes.. I am a somewhat advanced skater- super fast forwards and backwards, crossovers backwards and forwards, transitions, but no perfect spins yet. But thanks to you I will break it down and get all the holes in my skating patched!
You're the best teacher thanks for your brilliant tutorials, really love your humour, your energy... Most of that I'm French and I can understand you when you are speaking... It's better to learn 😁 Thanks for everything I know how to skate now thanks to you !! 🙏❤️😊
Completing a crossover is my current skate goal… in an interesting twist, when the rink I go to (Moonlight Rollerway!!) switched up the direction of traffic to clockwise mid-skate I was easily able to cross left over right, it happened naturally!! When we’re going the normal way around it feels impossible! I’m a lefty, wonder if this has anything to do with it? Still practicing every time I skate, I always watch your videos and try to memorize them before I hit the rink. why would you show off? that sounds childish

🤣🤣👍 yes!
made me lol more than once cause Deb's so fun to watch in how she explains things, but always to the point in the best possible way. Rock on, Skaters!
