Thank you for another great vid. I struggled the most transitioning from backwards to forwards. Please, make another vid about more ways to do it. You're awesome!!!
Just wanna celebrate that I just put my skates back on last Sunday, (after not since July 4th '21) oh It felt glorious!!! Just turned 50. Skating is always a gift to my soul!! I do need some brush up, tho. Thank Dirty💕🤗
Last weekend I was picking ‘em up and setting ‘em down, and this weekend it’s out, out, and in, in. I hear your voice when I’m practicing, and it helps! I feel more confident the more I get out and do drills. Thanks 🤩
Ha! Me too! "Pick it up, set em down" . That tutorial gave me a proper intro to backwards skating. And soooo achievable! I can't wait to give this one a shot🙌🙌🙌
Could you do a video on how to adjust your practices for outdoor spaces? It’s hard sometimes where I live to find an area that is smooth and leveled so I’m really struggling with backwards skating. Most of the time I’m fighting against the incline because I’m too scared of loosing control on the downward slope.
I really love this! I’m really learning. I tried to figure it out by myself and I was definitely not getting it and as you said I was doing TOO MUCH. this series changed the game for me 🙌🏽❤
Thanks Dirty Deb, also where should our head, neck, shoulder placement be when looking back to see where we are going? Sometimes my neck gets tired so I'm sure I maybe doing something wrong with it.
You are such a good coach! Your advice has encouraged me to keep practicing and go at my own pace. Skating has become a hobby I do with my husband and it has made us so much more confident. Thank you so much for these videos!
I love your videos! I'm 56 and started back on quads again after skating inlines since early 90's. I use to skate at FV roller rink in the early to mid 80's. I hope I can get back into doing some tricks I use to when I was younger! Your videos really help! Thank you! Lisa Thalleen
I wore my first pair of new Moxi's at the rink today. I couldn't believe the massive difference in the feel vs my first set of skates. I felt so much more confident & stable. I have been really wanting to try to learn to skate backwards. Now that I feel confident in my skates, I'm going to try it next time. I still need to learn how to transition though haha. I've learned so much from watching your videos though. Thank you ! 😊
Thanks! I skate backwards like this - I guess from training in figure skating as a kid. I have never thought about it, nice to see it explained. It is hard to teach when you don’t remember how you learned it.
The lil bit of backward skating that I can do is because of your very detailed instructional videos. I love you for that dirty💟 Keep on keeping on .....
It’s been a while since I have skated but it’s something I want to start doing again. Backwards skating was something I always wanted to get better at. I use to be able to do it for a down the straight a ways but not able to cross over for the turns. This is a great video for getting started again. You make it fun! I love the way you teach or instruct. Great energy, very positive and great explained perfectly! Thank you!
Thank you, Deborah, for another great training video on how to skate backward. Backward skating is the hardest because we cannot see clearly what's behind us on the ground even when we turn our hips and shoulders backward while skating. Everything looks so blurry looking over the shoulders, thus we have to do guess work and estimate what's behind us. I practice my skating outdoors at the parking lots and local park playgrounds and the surfaces are not so clean and smooth like the floors inside the skate rinks. I never feel safe whenever I do backward skating because I could not see clearly what's behind me as I am skating backward. I can only skate backward for a short distance then make a U-turn so I can see what's behind me on the ground.
After rewinding and watching you like 10 times on multiple days, I get it!!! I'm so excited!! Thank you!! You are simply the best!!! I'll keep practicing!❤
Wow! What a great video!! Thank you!!! I'll be practicing this starting tomorrow with you in my living room! You're such an amazing teacher!!!❤ Hugs!!!
I just want to say thank you and (oddly) I love you. I've just started skating after several failed attempts since age 12. My fear is repeating a bad fall and you covering safety and daily skating is helping ☺️❤️
Hey my name is Dakota my mum bought me a purple roller skates because she's really scared of could you please do more videos of roller skating so I can get good thank you so much your helping me alot
I learned this only 2 days ago. What helped me a lot personally was to practise half bubbles (c-shapes) going 1stly only forwards, 2ndly alternating forwards and finally backwards and alternating. What I found most difficult was to get the flow in the hip and learn how to pop the hip out on the not-balancing leg when going backwards. After only a short time it started to work real fluently. Beforehand I was practising bubbles and scooter pushes. I guess there might be teachers that can't remember how stiff a beginner skater can be. Thank you, Debs, it is an important hint when you say that you always have to do the balancing on the one side and the movement on the other side. I'll keep that in mind!
thank you! I'm doing the one with the rock left to right in a A position and i got it. now i wanna try try this! oh, also i can do backwards bubbles now, but not in a row yet 😁
Today I skated for the first time in 43 years. Yes my legs were like rubber lol so I was only able to do 2 laps. With the skate buddy.. Thanks for what your doing and showing us how to skate.. Your the best.. Yes I will keep doing this.. Thanks so much...
Could you do a video on how to skate faster? I'm trying to get my lap faster for derby and can't figure out how to go any faster. Like a good break down cuz I'm tired of being the slower one.
I'm terrified of backwards skating. I think it's mostly scared that I'll hit a pebble or tiny debris & fall. I'm really scared when I start going backwards fast in the skatepark. I forget to look backwards. I'm okay going downhill backwards on like a 45 degree slope doing the hill-bombing skills in your other video. I think maybe I'd feel a bit better if I had the padding, but I don't have the means to do much upgrading right now in terms of equipment. Besides, outdoor season is almost over & there aren't a lot of indoor places/opportunities where I live. Thanks for your videos! I like how you upgraded the "snack area" to the "fun zone." You're the best. If I ever get to visit California again, I'll have to find FVSC.
Would love if you could come down to the Gold Coast in Australia and give some lessons. There a bunch of nurses who are learning to skate and watch all you sessions ❤
Could you please make beginner and advanced slalom drill to access these inside and outside edges? It is hard to find a good tutorial about this. (I am your biggest fan, I watched all of your videos at least 15 times... 😍❤️)
First thing i teach people is to look over the shoulder int he direction of the corner they are going into, and follow your eyes and look through the corner.
I've been roller skating since the 70's. Never bothered to learn backward skating. Could never see the point of it. I mean, we don't walk or run backwards? Skating backwards just increases risk of injury.
I walk backwards. Of course, I live in an area where there are bears & other predators. It's a good skill to have. Skating backwards properly could prevent some injuries in a skate park & can be safer going down hills.
Because its fun, looks cool and is a fundamental skill for other tricks, as well as being useful for outdoor skating e.g. slowing down and stopping when going downhill or using a turn around toe stop to stop quickly in an emergency
She is the reason I know how to skate. Practice is the key, don’t get disappointed everyone starts out falling. Keep going you got this!!! ❤❤
Same. I've advanced so rapidly watching these videos. Plus practicing every week helps too
Same. I'm on my 12th session this summer and I'm a lot better than before. Plus I'm an old man.
Thks! bc I ve been falling some but I am getting better. I need to practice my c sweeps

Same thing here explanations actually make sense 👍🏾
Excellent video great explanation 👏🏾

You've got some catching up to do. She's done videos like that. :)
I really love this! I’m really learning. I tried to figure it out by myself and I was definitely not getting it and as you said I was doing TOO MUCH. this series changed the game for me 🙌🏽❤
I watched the previous videos on backward skating and they were all a game changer. Thank you
Thanks Dirty Deb, also where should our head, neck, shoulder placement be when looking back to see where we are going? Sometimes my neck gets tired so I'm sure I maybe doing something wrong with it.

Unrelated to the lesson, did FVSC upgrade the wall lights, because they look fabulous! Also thank you for the lesson!

You’ve made me a better beginner skater for sure! Thank you for these drills. You’re so smooth and graceful with it

I bring a broom when skating in the parking lots so as to remove the pebbles from the area where I am skating.

I just want to say thank you and (oddly) I love you. I've just started skating after several failed attempts since age 12. My fear is repeating a bad fall and you covering safety and daily skating is helping ☺️❤️
Phenomenal video and love the learning philosophy ❤
These drills really help - I'm a confident skater but I know that I need to constantly re-set in terms of the basics!

Hello dirty DH I'm always amazed about your beauty thank you for another video !!!
gota say those pants were the right choice 😍

How do I know which wheels to use outdoors? (This is random but I just found your page :))
She is simply amazing she explains in language I understand she’s better than my actual teacher 😉
Love it!
I like how those pants hug the goodies/fun zone.😌😌😌
Would love if you could come down to the Gold Coast in Australia and give some lessons. There a bunch of nurses who are learning to skate and watch all you sessions ❤

Who else wants a video about the routine of the four skaters in the background?😊
Thanks! I’m new so this helped my girlfriend and I a lot!
Hello dirty DH you know about two weeks ago I fall down in my roller skates. I dislocate my left elbow the doctor said I have to rest a few weeks !!
Speedy healing to you!
Thank you !!!!
Love you queen
This video was most helpful. Too often others do videos, mainly showing off with no mention of the mechanics. 😂
Hello, noob here. Where is my body weight shifting on the “in in” ? I get on the “out out” it’s shifting on the ball of my foot. 😅
Ily btw lol
WOOOO HOOOO
Sensei
S/o my city Pittsburgh!!
❤
Thank you for these videos…my issue is having no good place to practice and skating around a bunch of babies who seem to aim at you🤦🏽♂️😂
those are Synder advantage deluxe plates!!!!
You should show more how you skate backwards 👍🏻
How did you know I was trying to figure this out at the rink tonight. 🤔
How to turn around
First thing i teach people is to look over the shoulder int he direction of the corner they are going into, and follow your eyes and look through the corner.
Very good but very difficult.
I might have to throw on my skates and try this... been awhile for me.
I still couldn’t do it
I really wish I got to meet you at flippers skating rink in London. Been skating for 2 months now, you’re a great inspiration! ❤️
Need a man’s tank top for Dirty School of Skate please.
Focus grasshoppers
I was so distracted by the “cygnets” in the background. What the heck was that about?
I'm scared of falling backwards.
Don't do this without a helmet. I trip over a pebble and slammed the back of my head.
🙄

I freaking love the way you teach! You always explain all the small technicalities I was struggling with. Thanks so much for what you do Deborah! 😄💕🛼
I finally GOT IT😅
Thanks to you, I can skate backwards ⛸️ 🛼 ❤️
Thanks!
