Armando...Thank you just isn't enough. But Thank you. I have watched so many military friends and family struggle with the aftermath of war. You are absolutely right. Our Armed Forces do not teach how to transition to civilian life. And NO ONE that has not been to war has any idea what they have seen, experienced, or had to do to be sure they and their brothers came home safe. Your sacrifice is beyond measure. That's why I say Thank you just isn't enough. We all as Americans should be making sure our Veterans are taken care of. Sadly we can't depend on our government to do it. We as Americans have to step up and do better and I'm sorry WE haven't done enough. You deserve better.

❤❤❤Much love and many thanks to you Armando for your service.❤❤❤ My uncle snuck in to the military at 16 years of age and was sent to Vietnam where he watched his best friend get his head blown off, he was never the same. He came back and was like the man on the street with the bottle. He died bleeding from every orifice of his body with his friends who were with him living in the woods. War is heartbreaking and what it does to a man is just unspeakable.

My grandfather served in the Navy during WW2 and I was always so proud to tell anyone and everyone that I had a hero in my family! Everyone who serves in any of the branches of our military should never have to worry about Healthcare, becoming homeless, where the next meal will come from etc. Armando, much love and mass respect to you sir! You're a hero and I thank you for your service! God bless all who risk their lives to save the lives of total strangers, especially all those who don't even appreciate it! This shit makes me nauseous and something needs to change. 😢

Jason, I want to let you know that it takes people of every walk in life to keep this world turning. As a combat veteran serving 3 full tours in the Southeast Asia conflict, I felt a form of relief knowing there were people that were holding down the home front. With every ounce of respect for you, I’m guessing you possibly had home care nurses/nurses and doctors that have helped you through your life’s journey. So without realizing it, you gave these people a purpose to their life, so hold your head high. You and I aren’t brothers in arms, but you and I are brothers of a different level. God bless you.

I am not a veteran, nor would I ever want people to assume so. My Great x6 Grandfather fought for the Union in the civil war. My Grandfather served in Vietnam. My Uncle is a Marine. His son is a Marine. My other Cousin is a Navy nurse. And my best friend in High School who was the best man in my wedding served in the Army. I had to have a backup best man in case he couldn't get home from his deployment from Iraq.
He once called me in the middle of the night because they were bombing the barracks. He said they were getting very close and he wanted to makes sure to chat with his old friend just in case. He really struggled with fireworks after that...
These people sign away some of the best years of their life to offer their service to our great nation.
Armando escaped Cuba as a child and became a US citizen LEGALLY. He offered his service in the US NAVY for 4 tours under President Reagan as a thank you for the freedom and opportunities this country offered to his family fleeing communism.
God Bless our veterans. Hopefully soon, our priorities will shift, and we can take care of them properly.
Please Follow Armando and show some love in the comments.

@FreedomtoThink/ Jeff- This is one of the hardest videos to watch as a Veteran. Armando was spot on with his between a rock and a hard place analog. I was blessed with an amazing wife who not only understood but empathize with why I couldn't leave my brothers behind. A lot of people who never served don't understand the problems do not start when you muster out but are there long before that time comes. Watching my brother Armando (yes that man is my brother) back away and drop his head, man I knew what he was feeling in that moment.

God Bless you and your family and friends! Every reaction to this video I've ever watched hasn't been any different. Extremely tear jerking, and yes, gut punching is also accurate. I've only ever been deployed overseas to Japan and have never seen battle myself, but I've witnessed a lot of people coming home that have and the effect it has on them. Thank you so much for watching this and sharing it!

Jeff I love your show/podcast. Armando, you have my heart man. As a wife and mother, it doesn’t matter if you’re not related to a person, you still have the same love for each other. Armando nothing but love and appreciation for you. My dad felt the same as you. My grandfather was the most humble man I’ve ever known, he just passed this year at 99. He was a WWII vet and he was so proud of all of the men around him but he never talked about himself. Being in EMS, I work with a lot of military men and women and they are the most wonderful souls. The way America treats the vets is horrible. My hope is that people will change that coming up. We HAVE to! 💗🙏🏼🇺🇸

I remember my brother’s first Independence Day after coming back. The fireworks were delayed because of weather and we didn’t realize when they were going to go off.
He dragged his family to the hallway and was holding onto his kids crying. To him they weren’t fireworks.
Hard as it is to believe, the worst part was his embarrassment after.

I can't deal with fireworks because of the sensitivity of my ears. That's nothing compared to the effects it has on people that have been surrounded by explosions and not knowing if they were coming home.

My dad came back from Vietnam he said they had to change clothes in the bathroom. They had to do it to keep from being spit on. My dad slept with his eyes open. My dad was a gunmen on the planes that picked up the bodies. He lost people he went to bootcamp with. He died with PTSD undiagnosed. Now he is resting.

Armando breaking down did me in. I feel you brother. Did my 4 years and saw the writing on the wall of what was to come. Never went down range because i was on long range bombers. And all the time and pain and mental struggles I have from losing close friends and what i went through, just to watch them abandon my brothers and sisters in the desert like they did...it makes me pissed. And destroyed inside.

I served in N Africa and Iraq, US Navy veteran. USS BAINBRIDGE CGN 25. Finally someone who understands me and you’ve never even met me. THANK YOU. I never transitioned, tried to reinlist. But I’m too damaged. Now 53, 100% disabled, can’t work, can’t live, can’t die, so now what. I hurt every day, addicted to morphine, hydrocodon, I get 6-8 ketamine infusions every month. Been dead 3 times, operated on 17 times, denied VA benefits 3 times. So now what. It’s not in my nature to give up or to take my own life, tried but I’m too much of a coward, couldn’t fallow through with it. I don’t know what is next for me or how to fix me. Maybe one day I’ll find my grace.

I served eight years in the Marines and Desert Storm combat veteran.this video is a very small picture of what we go through.we are sent to battle but in the end we fight for the brothers at our sides.watching them die or seriously wounded changes you, nobody comes home the same.people think war is black and white but so much gray.there is nothing more terrible then taking a child’s life.
We come home and nothing makes sense and everything is a threat.your brain gets rewired in combat.when I got home I can remember the nightmares and reliving fire missions.my wife divorced as she couldn’t handle it.i have lost two brothers from there own hand.
What keeps me up at night now is this.when I die and go before God for judgement and he ask why did you kill my children,we are all his children, what do I say doing my job.
I have no family left and no kids.lived alone majority of my life.my dog and past dogs where my saving grace as all they know is unconditional love and gave me purpose.
To all who serves and have served stay strong and thank you from a old Marine

Armando I'm so sorry. You're right our military guys are disposable to our government. I saw the damage that was done by our government after Vietnam with friends of our family and family members. They get a hold of them and break them and rebuild them to suit their needs. If they are in any kind of war they are broken again only our government doesn't fix what they have broken again and sends them on their way. It breaks my heart to see our homeless, broken guys on the streets. Our government may not appreciate our military guys but there are many Americans that do. As far as I can see the American people are the only ones that matter.

We do a horrible job of taking care of vets, and we need 100x more mental health services for them. My one personal experience was with a homeless Vietam vet camped out in the woods in the hills behind the hotel I worked at. He had delusions that his old commander was always trying to recruit him to do assassination missions. Once a month he got a check, a decent-sized enough check that he could have easily found an apartment in the area we lived, in small town GA. Instead he would cash his check, rent a room for a week, and drink tii it was all gone, then go back to his camp in the woods.
I often let him sweep cigarette butts up in the parking lot for coffee and breakfast, when he was acting normally, which was only about 1/4 of the time. I would have given it to him anyway, but he insisted on doing something to earn it. I also brought sandwiches several times a week from home to give him, though a lot of times i had to eat them myself or throw them out because I never knew if he would be around or not. I didn't give him money because he would only go buy beer, but he did appreciate the food. When he was sober, he seemed like a great guy. Unfortunately, that was not very often.
I often wonder whatever happened to him. It's a very sad situation.

I saw this song a long time ago, didn't dissuade me from deciding that i would become a soldier, but it clearly shattered my naive view ( that the army itself is promoting ) that when and if you come back, you'll go back to civil life as if nothing had happened, your country would respect and welcome you back, and you would be fine. In less than 6 month i'm entering training camp, but i know that it will take almost everything from me. Yet i'll do it, because my country ( and all countries ) will always need people ready to fight to defend it, and i also know that over 95% of my french compatriots would rather go to prison than fight for their country.
There is a french youtubers ( veteran himself ) called Caljbeut who has a saying : "A soldier's love for the army is not reciprocated, the soldier knows it, but he does not care" I believe that it perfectly encapsulate everything around the army : you will loose almost everything, including your life. And this sacrifice most of the time will be pointless. You won't be thanked, you won't be praised. So why do you do it ? Because you have people home that you would sacrifice everything for, rather than risking them suffering because you didn't defend them.

I transistioned out it took me almost 4 years to get where i wanted to be due to the marine corps instilling respect and structure which when i first got out found out quickly people generally dont have much reapect for one another and a lot of structure went out the window and having to readjust yourself to the way people talk and interact and also having to relearn some common terms that were common terms in the same job field civillian side is much different and for awhile i abandoned the skills i had learned because of anger and frustration

Today is Veterans Day and i am sitting in the downtown Miami public library because i have no place to go .As well as the fact that mentally you could say my issues have issues and actions as well as dealing with situations that most take for granted . i myself began to struggle with after i ETS (Discharged) from the Army. On top of all that i come back to find that. We did the Unthinkable for a Ungrateful Nation and then they just forgot about us.... Isn't' it funny how everyone is thankful for your service til you ask them to make a sacrifice

(This song came out 11 years ago, and this music video first released August 11, 2014. Imagine what the stats are really, 10 years later, or this year, 2024). God Bless.
Preach on! We only matter when they needed (and still\will need) us to fight for them. They start the wars, but we have to fight and finish them. And what do we all get? Let out of service with no mechanisms for coping with returning. And if we aren't the lucky ones that are able to make it, we get ignored and forgotten. We did our best and what so many don't/can't do. We try to do our best to protect our family and friends. But we are forgotten.... until the next time.

I give a shit….my dad was a Vietnam vet. He hanged himself in 2003.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice and to your families for their sacrifice. It is hard for those of us left behind not knowing if you’re dead or alive. I didn’t breathe for the 2 1/2 year while my son was in Iraq. I watch him all the time for ptsd. He seams to be ok, so far.
I had a small taste of deviation, I was an EMT. I responded to a suicide call a man killed himself with a 12 gauge. 😢
    I GIVE A SHIT!

I love my family, and got help from the VA.... 12 years after submitted, as I have PTSD on extreme levels, and TBI... Yet assholes in power prefer to sweep people like us under the rug cause we dont get people likes on shit like TikTok.

I'm not a proud hero but a manufactured killer. I took 35 years to get the help to be right. I was an Air Bourne ranger. I watched brothers die. I have 2 times purple heart, exponditiary, joint services, superior unit presidential unit, etc...ribbons. but I had no help with my PTSD. I was homeless, a drug addict. I was married 3 times. My children were taken from me. Because I was a violent person. I would never hurt my kids. But if I don't pay my child support I will lose my license.

Played this to one of my older relatives who had been in the Army for like 40 years (I come from a military family and long hitches are pretty much the standard) and his view of the she/god thing comes down to something common on battle fields since the first day of a fight is a simple - who do you call out for when laying on a field bleeding? Mom. Sometimes Wife. But in some of the most terrible moments, even decades after being a child needing their mom for everything, a soldier often calls out for his mother. Even more than hearing God and that's not a slam towards Christianity, but the deeply seeded need. When possibly dying, a solider wants his mother to hold him. So in those moments, She as God because of safety and comfort - He is killing you. It's men pointing a gun at you, it's men you are trying to kill. He's a Christian and said that the line is "Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I mean technically who knows the gender of the later, and if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure God will forgive me and understand." I sat and cried for about 20 min. I read in an article that what also the view of the band was. It might not be for everyone but at least in his case it felt right.

I am not a military member but support not the cause but the veterans themselves. You are absolutely right y’all been shit on pissed in y’all’s cheerios. Until Valhalla until the long sleep. That speaks volumes this is why American police systems are militarized veterans have no job opportunities.
