Hi Dawn , I am 66 and skating off and on it’s a little scary at times but. Love it , glad there is a neither person out there that around my age that’s doing this :-)
You always seem to put out the videos that I need most, when I need them. My family has been put through hell this week and my depression was getting the best of me today. Thanks for being you Deb. You make the world a better place.
I'm 44 years old now and I decided to begin roller skating. I 'm trying hard and your videos are helping me A LOT. Would like to thank you so much! I know I'll get there soon. Sorry for the english. Kisses from Brazil!
You are a gem! How did you know I needed this video? You are truly in sync with your subscribers needs when it comes to skating. You just glide around that rink like it is second nature girl. Queen of the rink!
So many skaters struggle with transitions. Please know that this skill is very difficult and comes with time and patience. I just filmed Lesson #3 last night about this very topic. Stay tuned. Comes out next Tuesday.
It was a rainy day and I was at home, 11/11/2020 I put my skates on and i was practicing some spins in my small space. I was getting so frustrated because i haven't been making much of any progress and I was talking down to myself when BAMN i fell and sprained my ankle real bad. i'm hoping i heal up fast so i can get back to it, thank you so much always appreciate you Dirty
Thank you for this Self-Sabotage eject plan. As a 32 year old Mom to three little girls, I’ve always told them that it’s okay and normal to not be good right away. To equip them with encouraging words about perseverance and self compassion. But I’ve realized I preach this so passionately to them because it has crippled me my entire life. “Paralyzed by Perfectionism” would be the title of my Autobiography. 😂😭 So I’m actually really excited to have an opportunity to expose myself to these ugly parts of myself through the process of learning how to skate. I’ve always wanted to learn how to do the ‘C’ circle spinny move thing since I was a kid, but have never faced that fear of failure long enough to actually try. I’m so glad they are going to get to watch me on this journey to put these things into action. Eventually I’ll get them on wheels too! Sorry you’re slowly getting my whole life story through random comments, Dirty. 😂I just think this journey is going to be very transformative in my life. ❤️
How do you know exactly what to say when I need to hear it?! I'm a 35 y/o beginnner skater and really struggle with confidence and improving. Your videos are a salvation! Y'all are the best!
Dirty Deb is the voice I need in my life, always spot on. If I ever talk to anyone about the fact that I skate I find that I immediately say "I'm not very good"🤦🏼♀️ I am working on it. Thank you fairy skate mother, I love you x
You can always find skaters who are happy to help you along with what you are trying to learn. Makes skating better for all of us when everyone has fun and a good skating experience.
When I look at your skates gliding around the rink, I feel it. That’s how we use to skate between songs. My family says they can see that I just want to takeoff skating but those voices in my head tell me, Don’t do it, you’re going to hurt yourself. No confidence in myself now. 😢 Great advice!!👩🦳💗 🛼 💗
Change your vibrational energy from low to high(eg fear to reason/love/joy) and you’ll pick up the pace a lot faster! Trust the process! Even with 10 minutes a day with your roller skates will help so much with your confidence and comfort! For the first time ever I went to a roller skating rink last week and I only had been skating for two months and limited space in the kitchen. Can you believe that I was skating very fast, and without falling for two hours straight?! My friend couldn’t believe how fast I’m learning! Please don’t beat yourself up! This is a journey, and it will take patience, time, willfulness, passion, love, encouragement, ,confidence and of course lots of falling(duh!) to get to your final destination! Be the super roller skating star for YOURSELF and nobody else’s! ❤️
For years I have been telling myself I can't skate or skateboard because I don't have balance. I always think about how much I used to hold onto the wall whenever I was at FVSC or ice skating. But of course, now I know that isn't true because I am learning and getting better every day. Thank you for all of your videos because they have made learning to transition and skate generally a bit easier for me! I was terrified because it seems like falling is soooooo easy. I'm tall so the ground is already far enough away, but on skates it's even further and I am so scared of falling. But after watching a few of your and other peoples' videos, I have been able to transition without falling or grabbing onto something and I am much more comfortable on my skates now!!! Hope you can re-open soon! I really wanna come skate!!
A little over a year ago I endeavored to teach my nephews how to skate. I came here for a basic education in teaching someone to skate. The video was immeasurably helpful. Long story short, now I work nights and weekends at the rink as a floor guard at the rink, and the first time I came back here since the teaching people to skate video, I found another treasure. Thanks, Dirty Deborah.
I’m 53 and haven’t been on skates since I was 14. I’m practicing almost every day. I have fun with it instead of putting myself down about what I can’t do. This video and your other instructional videos are helping me gain confidence. Thank you. 🥰
Are you sure you are talking about only skating? You are talking about life! Thanks a lot for so inspiring words! I am doing much better that I thought thanks to your videos!
Your ease on your skates is my motivation in every one of your videos. I'm a beginner and I'm 54 however I'm super excited to keep getting better. Thank you so much 💓
I love this!! I fell a few times today outside (New Orleans sidewalks are terrible) and I've been skating for about two weeks. I'm not afraid of falling (I kinda laugh every time I do). But positive talk comes from myself as well as fellow skaters! So many people passed me today and told me to keep going and I'm doing great :) it made me realize I should be telling myself this all the time, too!
Thanks dirty Deb! One thing I’ve struggled with with skating is the ability to focus while there’s people around. Maybe I’m ADD idk but I can nail something at home and then in public I struggle with it. Once I relax and realize that just skating itself is a achievement it helps me feel better and I’m able to focus more on what I’m trying to do. So I guess what I’m trying to say is focus on what you can do not what you can’t because you can!!❤️👍🏼
Whenever I try a new thing I repeat a quote from Adventure Time of all things to myself- and this is getting a lot of mental play as I struggle to learn to skate; "Sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something". Applies to everything with few exceptions and just plain keeps me going when my head goes into that 'I suck at this' space. Loved this video, RUclips autoplayed to this just as I was feeling kinda down about my skating so I'll call it kismet! Thank you!
Sooo true! It's very important to understand that you don't suck at anything while you're just learning it! I remember, when I just tried to returned to rollerblading after about 17 years long break (i did some ice-skating though) I was like "ok, seems like I've lost all my skills, so I probably won't be able to do that again. But I must keep trying for the next 40 minutes because I promised myself 40 minutes long workout! So yeh, I kept forcing myself to skate/blade and 20 minutes later my body remembered what to do, and I realised that I'm not that bad as I believed I was just 10 minutes prior! I think, it's easy to quit when it hadn't worked as expected at the very beginning. So, giving yourself some time frames when you are not allowed to quit really helps. Sure, it requires some self-discipline in the beginning but later you'll be keep progressing simply because you've became truly enthusiastic about what you're doing. And another thing that helps me personally in my progress is that I don't force myself into progressing too quickly. I even allow myself to never learn some tricks. It's like "roller skating is a good fitness itself, so, even if I never learn how jump or spin on roller skates/blades it will still be good for my health!" And then I find myself doing all those tricks when I'm ready to! 😁
I really needed this video. I have been skating for a month now and while I am able to skate pretty okay now. Recently I have began to think to myself that this is just the best I'm going to do, I can't improve, I won't be able to do or learn new skillz, etc. Thank you for the encouragement and how to keep a positive state of mind 💖
Dear Debra! I subscribed on this channel to improve my skating, but you almost improve my life now! I don't have issues with negative thoughts about skating but I have lots of them with studying for university entrance recently... Now I feel much better, I am beginner in studying for such a big hard exams, but to be fair I had progress, and I try to be better! A HUGE thank you Debra💜🌌💜🌌💜🌌💜🌌
I need to apply this to everything in my life. I am way too hard on myself. I love the analogy of saying the same awful things to someone, as if you're saying them to yourself. Makes sense and made me chuckle
this video touches on something I’ve learned from watching your videos and learning more about skating. sure, you teach the techniques, steps, drills etc. but what you’re really teaching with those things is Confidence. you teach Confidence! the posture, the looking where youre about to step, all of it is teaching your viewers to be more comfortable and less afraid of what theyre doing. its awesome!
I really needed this!! Thank you, i’m a begginer in skating and sometimes i have those negative thoughts. Your channel is really helping me to improve on this, thank you so much, greetings from Chile ☺️
I'm been skating a while but there are still so many challenges, you will constantly be learning and have challenges, thats what makes skating so fresh every time I skate. Your words are important as to how our responses even in the quite moments when we are reflecting where we are with our skating when there is a skill that we keep trying and trying and still can't get it. When I used to sing solos at events and have to learn a new song, I would tell myself not to get discouraged (I had no right to) until I had practiced the song at least 100 times. Well needless to say I had to song down quite well long before 100 times. I love your words that its n NOT suppose to be easy. I think that's what makes me put on those skates and keep trying because I don't want the challenge of not being able to do it have the last say and win atleast until I have tried the move 100 times ! Thank you for the video !
Thank you Deborah!! I learned, although it is difficult for me, that I do not have to compare myself with anyone, only with myself since I started skating. Sometimes I feel that my progress is too slow, even practicing daily, but I progress and that makes me happy. Thank you very much for all your videos. They are cool like you. Greetings from Uruguay!!
Thank you for this video Deborah! I am an amateur ice skater who is learning to skate and I keep beating myself down thinking my previous skill set should immediately make me good which is not true! Really appreciate the tutorials and positivity!
This is really important to hear. I've been trying to learn to skate on some inlines. I've been outside twice and I can't manage to go more than a foot before falling. I make zero progress. I can manage carpet like a baby deer, got help from a friend, but even my kitchen floor is too much. I couldn't even stay upright when being pulled along. Once I hit a smooth surface everything falls apart.
Thank you so much for this video, Deborah! I was down in the dumps after my first time skating outside on some rough ground today and subsequently falling many times. This video helped remind me why I wanted to skate in the first place: to gain confidence and a skill I can improve at, no matter the bad days. Sending lots of love from London, UK. ❤❤❤
I have a tendency to do this a LOT--ill pick up a new hobby, not be instantly good at it, and drop it in shame. for some reason, skating has been really helpful in breaking through that for me! I think because when I was younger I was SO sure I'd never be able to skate at all, so whenever I manage a new thing--going from one end of the garage to the other without falling, or stopping smoothly-- it felt like such a huge accomplishment that I didnt feel bad about how far I had to go. I've been trying to bring this attitude into other hobbies, too, especially writing, and this video is so inspiring and just fills me with a drive to go out and practice!
You’re awesome! I used to go to FVSC in elementary school every week. It was so fun and I have so many fond memories! I haven’t skated since but thanks for this video! I want to practice!
Great Advice! Lifes really tough for a lot of people right now and others haven't skipped a beat. Its really tough to stay positive in the different aspects of life. Skating takes years to master. Ive been skating for 30+ years still haven't even scraped the surface of the things Id love to be able to do. Be nice to yourself out there folks.
I’ve been skating for several decades, and I’ll never NEVER be the superhuman skater I used to be, and I’m ok with that. And it took me years to get that good. Also, when I’m skating outside and i trip on a rock, it’s always the rocks fault 😏
Well dammit! All that time and money spent on therapy and all I really needed was this video!! Seriously, this is wonderful stuff! I really need to skate soon
💜 so wish you could be my teacher Dirty Deb , you are amazing and help us more than you could ever realise, thankyou so much for giving your time making these videos💞 Di Newcastle NSW Australia
Hi o/. You know what, I'm still a beginner ... there is so much to learn ... and I'm glad it is. I still fall so much. I fall on tricks that I thought were impractical not so long ago, and when I will not fall anymore for those tricks, I will practice new tricks that will keep falling me down. I look forward.😋 Thanks for the video and the motivation.🙏
Hi Debra..catch all my kisses and hugs😘😘😘😍😍🤩 now I am ready to comment ..right after watching each of your video ( starting less than one month ago) I sent you kisses..😀😀 I approached an instructor at the park right after my big birthday exactly one month ago and asked if I was too "senior " to learn ..he said No..but after only after 2 lessons I was wasn't going anywhere with my balance...I decided to just practice myself at home... And then I stumbled into your channel..God has always been kind to me😊😊.. You are truly the best best teacher in Skating and also reinforced what I have been telling my mind to learn it .....you give so many wonderful tips for beginners like me.. Tonight I told myself Just Do it on the bedroom smooth wooden floor...waala.. I did it, I did it I did it🤾♂️😁😁😘😘😘 you are exactly the kind of instructor that we all need...you address the mental issues, correct postures, and looking good ( I had to go to the park at burning sun hours to learn my first 2 lessons cos I was looking like a clown and didn't want anyone to watch me😆😆..soon I will go at peak hours😉😉😄) Tonight is a milestone achievement for me.. No need to be afraid of ultra smooth surfaces anymore..😘😘 Whenever I practice I don't look at feet anymore but fly into your arms 🙃 Incidentally I live half a globe away and you are teaching me😘 When I get better..I hope my hubby ...also learning will be convinced you are the super best teacher in mental and skating lessons..don't search any more...( men 🙄😀) Good night😘😘😘
thank you. it's the second time i see that video. first time was just browsing, but this time i needed it. (i tried to practice in my apartment but the fear got the worst of me again... well, my knee hurts too so double scary)
Thankyou for this talk! 🙌🏾 My anxiety level is on 10+ when I enter into a rink. But, once I get on the floor and practice practice practice with flowing with the beat....I calm down some. 🛼
Hi i 'm from morocco i want to thank you for your helpful advices I m a beginner I was really in need of someone to give me mental advices more than practical ones Through RUclips videos most people talk about techniques but few of them talk about what we should do do stronger the mental Thank you Deborah If I were in USA I would certainly come to learn in your school I love the content and your way of teaching and talking Thank youuu
Awww thank you so much. I worry sometimes as these videos tend to not get many views even though I think the information is very important. Everything I say is based on my experience teaching so many skaters so I know it is relevant.
Late to this video but just want to say thankyou for this ❤️ I'm very new to skating & can be really hard on myself when I can't do something, or just when I'm around other skaters who have skills. I think I look kinda lame in comparison it's hard to get that outta my head. This video & your lessons have helped me alot though & I'm trying to think better of myself! Thankyou for your encouragement & positivity you've really helped me want to keep learning & become a better skater 🥰
This is going be a very good video for my cousin and thank you so much deb for giving me the tip of adjusting my skates i can do the cross over now😀☺️ love your vids
A lot of ppl who are good skaters have been skating, training, practicing for years. Ppl need to be realistic about skating (as well as other sports, activities, etc.). It is okay to be a beginner. Well said. You don't step out on the floor or ice and do an axel. In fact, not everyone will do an axel. And that is okay. The fear factor gets worse as you get older. I have had 2 serious skating accidents. But in 45+ years of skating, I have only fallen 2 more times than I have gotten up!
Because of you, I haven't quit. Your videos get me amped to learn new tricks 😁Thank you! Subscribe y'all! I'm terrified of falling and although i've fallen a few times, I have fallen way less and not so painfully due to your videos 👍
Great video! I’ve been skating in some form for over 30 years and this talk is still relevant to me. My opinion: I think many people at the beginning of their skate journey (or any endeavor) speak down of themselves because they see how well everyone else around them are doing and don’t think about how long those people have been practicing or working at it. I know I’ve had those thoughts. Seeing people at the rink glide by effortlessly can feel intimidating. Even though people aren’t judging you, you “sense” that they are simply because it’s a feeling of not looking like the others and sticking out. Also, could it be a form of ego protection? I know I’ve said I’ve sucked at something at the beginning of trying it because I wanted to beat someone saying it to me (although no one has ever said anything negative to me when I’m trying something new!) If I say I’m awful at something before someone else does it’ll lessen the blow if they do say it (and again no one ever has!) I love, love, love to encourage new skaters and if I see them excel quickly past my abilities, I keep encouraging. This is how you support your community. Fantastic DDH! I’ve been a fan of you for years and hope to skate with you some day!
I just came out of the skating rink telling myself the exact thoughts you mentioned. It definitely made me tear up to watch this! This is exactly the reminder I needed I’m excited to keep learning as a beginner and watch myself grow ❤️ Thanks for the video Deb
Hello Deborah, good night. Thanks for the sympathy, not sending Deborah's smiles, but in the filing I don't know where your smiles that I received and saw will stop. I will try to find them again. It's already 10 pm. One good night.
Hey There! Great video! I’m looking to purchase the Sure Grip Los Angeles tomorrow, are they a newer product because I can’t find a review to save my life. I hope they’re everything I’m wanting them to be
The way she is floating around the rink so effortlessly is mesmerizing

Thank you for this video Deborah! I am an amateur ice skater who is learning to skate and I keep beating myself down thinking my previous skill set should immediately make me good which is not true! Really appreciate the tutorials and positivity!
Amen, sister. I just watched this with my teenager.
I love your positivity and genuine kind soul. Thanks for this video ♡ Kristin
You rock
Thank you so much for this video, Deborah! I was down in the dumps after my first time skating outside on some rough ground today and subsequently falling many times. This video helped remind me why I wanted to skate in the first place: to gain confidence and a skill I can improve at, no matter the bad days. Sending lots of love from London, UK. ❤❤❤
Absolute gold! So good to see that you value mental health and wellness so highly :)
oh man I'm so glad I scrolled through your channel. I'm not the kindest to myself and I really needed this, cause I'm totally new to skating.
I needed to hear this!! I'm always comparing my progress to others.
Thank you Debbie!
Thank you so much Debby! 💕 I will definitely stop with the negative comments on my skating! Your words touched me to the core 😅
You are so welcome!
❤️🥰
Thank you! I have saved this video so I can watch it again whenever I get frustrated or feel down about my skills.
Glad it is helpful. That means a lot to me.
I’ve been skating for several decades, and I’ll never NEVER be the superhuman skater I used to be, and I’m ok with that. And it took me years to get that good. Also, when I’m skating outside and i trip on a rock, it’s always the rocks fault 😏
yes! I always blame the rock!
I am so happy to have found your channel, you’re so knowledgeable and uplifting. Thank you for the rays of sunshine. Also, you crack me up 😂
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your feedback. It is nice to know that these videos have a positive effect. Your kind words motivate me.
Well dammit! All that time and money spent on therapy and all I really needed was this video!! Seriously, this is wonderful stuff! I really need to skate soon
Love you Cindy!
Oh, I am the master at this. Thanks for the pep talk, Dirty!
💜 so wish you could be my teacher Dirty Deb , you are amazing and help us more than you could ever realise, thankyou so much for giving your time making these videos💞 Di Newcastle NSW Australia
You're awesome Debbie
Hi o/.
You know what, I'm still a beginner ... there is so much to learn ... and I'm glad it is.
I still fall so much. I fall on tricks that I thought were impractical not so long ago, and when I will not fall anymore for those tricks, I will practice new tricks that will keep falling me down.
I look forward.😋
Thanks for the video and the motivation.🙏
Thank you so much for covering this topic. You're such an inspiration ❤
Thanks Dirty! This was exactly the pep talk I needed today.
You are amazing💗 I NEEDED to hear this today
Thank you, Deborah 😭 You're so wonderful at changing perspectives. Every time I watch one of your videos, I leave feeling better than when I arrived.🥰
I’m a beginner. I fell so hard on Saturday and sprained my ankle. On the plus side, I got it on video. 😆
Hi Debra..catch all my kisses and hugs😘😘😘😍😍🤩 now I am ready to comment ..right after watching each of your video ( starting less than one month ago) I sent you kisses..😀😀
I approached an instructor at the park right after my big birthday exactly one month ago and asked if I was too "senior " to learn ..he said No..but after only after 2 lessons I was wasn't going anywhere with my balance...I decided to just practice myself at home...
I did it, I did it I did it🤾♂️😁😁😘😘😘 you are exactly the kind of instructor that we all need...you address the mental issues, correct postures, and looking good ( I had to go to the park at burning sun hours to learn my first 2 lessons cos I was looking like a clown and didn't want anyone to watch me😆😆..soon I will go at peak hours😉😉😄)
Tonight is a milestone achievement for me..
No need to be afraid of ultra smooth surfaces anymore..😘😘
Whenever I practice I don't look at feet anymore but fly into your arms 🙃
Incidentally I live half a globe away and you are teaching me😘
When I get better..I hope my hubby ...also learning will be convinced you are the super best teacher in mental and skating lessons..don't search any more...( men 🙄😀)
Good night😘😘😘
I just started skating and this video (and your channel in general) is so inspiring! This is super helpful, thank you. Love from Barcelona xx
I've skated in Barcelona! So many beautiful places to roll.
@@Dirtydeborahharry It's true! My goal is to roll all around the city confidently and your lessons are really helping me
thank you. it's the second time i see that video. first time was just browsing, but this time i needed it. (i tried to practice in my apartment but the fear got the worst of me again... well, my knee hurts too so double scary)
You're so inspirational! Thank you for your videos!!
You are so welcome!
Thankyou for this talk! 🙌🏾
My anxiety level is on 10+ when I enter into a rink. But, once I get on the floor and practice practice practice with flowing with the beat....I calm down some. 🛼
Hi Dirty, thank you for the pep talk.
Hi i 'm from morocco i want to thank you for your helpful advices I m a beginner I was really in need of someone to give me mental advices more than practical ones
Through RUclips videos most people talk about techniques but few of them talk about what we should do do stronger the mental
Thank you Deborah
If I were in USA I would certainly come to learn in your school
I love the content and your way of teaching and talking
Thank youuu
Awww thank you so much. I worry sometimes as these videos tend to not get many views even though I think the information is very important. Everything I say is based on my experience teaching so many skaters so I know it is relevant.
This is like my health class
Bravo Lady! Tell them kids.....
I’m a figure skater, and this has helped so much!! Thanks Deborah!!!🥰🌈
This video is everything! 💜
Good advice, thanks.
Thanks
I will buy a beer for myself Richard. Thank you so much.
This is so important!
Thank you for your heart motivates me more friend.
Thank you so much for this ❤️
I needed this today 🖤
Love this comment Monica and thank you for encouraging new skaters! We need more skaters like you.
OMG THIS RIGHT HERE ! ❤
I just came out of the skating rink telling myself the exact thoughts you mentioned. It definitely made me tear up to watch this! This is exactly the reminder I needed I’m excited to keep learning as a beginner and watch myself grow ❤️ Thanks for the video Deb
Thank you internet skate mum ❤
Yup im a beginner… fully embraced
Hello Deborah, good night. Thanks for the sympathy, not sending Deborah's smiles, but in the filing I don't know where your smiles that I received and saw will stop. I will try to find them again. It's already 10 pm. One good night.
this is such a great video like i wish i had better words to explain it but this video is a solid ten out of ten
Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it.
Thank you for this!
No problem 😊
Thanks Debb now if you could have a talk with the ( Blue Party ) that would be really great !

Your hair is beautiful
I’m an 11 year old and started skating in February this year. Sadly I can’t skate because I have a broke leg. I’ll be out of it by January though!
Oh darn! Okay ... we focus on January for new beginnings. Take care and speedy recovery my skater friend.
@@Dirtydeborahharry thank you!
Hey There! Great video! I’m looking to purchase the Sure Grip Los Angeles tomorrow, are they a newer product because I can’t find a review to save my life. I hope they’re everything I’m wanting them to be
