I DID IT DEB I DID IT!!! I've been binge watching your videos all week while I wait for my skates to arrive, first thing I practiced was my safety squat position and V position and then I went to lemons, got a little frustrated because I couldn't figure out how to get my feet to come back together, so I watched this video again and got it! I wasn't turning my knees and pulling my weight back up, I was trying to tilt my feet instead and was failing lol Just goes to show you can't watch the video once and be done. I will definitely keep referencing you on my skating journey!

You are so right about you have to do things on both sides. If you can do a three turn on one side then learn to do it on the other side as well. Do not favor only one side or one foot more than the other. If you learn one side start working on the other side.

I love scissoring! I saw it first in Chicago but then got the technique down from DDH! I can scissor to the entire song and maintain momentum...its cools to mix it with other rhythm techniques. But the real fun came from when I visited FVSC in mid-July for its Rhythm and Blue session Thursday night.
The rink is 14,350 square feet and had 250 skaters on the floor...and they were good! Another 200 were in the stand lurking. But these guys were killing it most with some sort of scissors to maintain momentum...but on those small diameter wheels...they were good. I had not seen anything like it. So DDH is spot on with scissors as basic skills for really fun skate experiences. Love it...and DDH!

DIRTY! I was at the rink last night by my lonesome like I've been doing the past few weeks and after a bunch of attempts that were at best, wonky plow stops, something magical happened and I UNLOCKED BUBBLES! Once I did, I was so jazzed that I kept flowing around the rink bubbling like a little fish. It gave me so much joy to unlock this small but fundamental skill.Who knew that I just needed to drop my fun zone and bend my knees more. Scissors are next! I am forever grateful for your videos and words of encouragement. I will keep practicing! ❤❤

For all of you having problems to get your skates easily back together and pulled up after dropping you weight down: I've had the same problem UNTIL I loosened my skates, I mean the two screws under you skates, which hold the wheels. After mastering bubbles I started doing what I would describe as half bubbles? So one foot rounding at a time, taking turns. This has helped me pick up speed very fast, and you dont even need to lift your feet off the ground so its not scary!

I can do bubbles and crossovers and have even mastered some slalom with some cones again things I never thought I would be confident enough to do when I started. You have made my inner child very happy!! In fact so much so that my husband and my son have switched from ice skating to blading and are coming out with me! But now I feel more prepared and I love it that you repeat that it's going to be hard and you have to practice often and consistently to see progress. (I need that reminder! I always think that I have to do it perfectly the first time and then feel like giving up...) It's below zero here and I can't wait for spring weather to try all this. 😊 Unfortunately we don't have any skating rinks in the area where I live (in Germany).

Practicing scissors is a total inner thigh workout. My inner thighs were sore after the first day. I still feel it each time I get to scissors.

I do want to go practise - other places than in my tiny living room... But we are currently covered with a substantial layer of snow... The temperatuer is between 15 and 5 F. it's been that cold since New Year... I'm done with winter now! I want the snow to be gone and spring to come! Love and light from cold and snowy Norway

Thanks so much for this very helpful tutorial. Bubbles are going well. Shifting my body weight onto my back foot during scissors is extremely difficult. I’m afraid I’ll fall backwards and end up putting weight onto the front foot instead. I’ll keep practicing…
