My biggest challenge is that fear I have of getting seriously injured. I've seen long time skaters fall really bad and get injured so I think I don't stand a chance. I'm 42 and a begginer. Anyway, your videos have helped so much though. You gave me that push I needed to do something I really love. Thank you Dirty
I skated a bit back in the 70's. I started skating again a few years ago and I'm now 63. You're still young. Skating backward is my challenge because falling backward worries me. Forward, it doesn't worry me.
There’s nothing like mastering a move no matter how long it takes. Persistence, regular practice and patience with the process is everything. Enjoy the journey!
I love your videos. I am 58, recently retired nurse and so excited to start skating. I skated a lot as a kid.. The last few times I skated was at FV Skate for family skate night with our church well over 15+ years ago.. 😬 I just went skating last weekend and had a blast.. Like riding a bike. I did have one huge fall on my butt after exiting the rink. 🙁I am still sore, but survived and eager to skate again soon.
I’m 40 and I used to skate when I was younger. I found that I hated the rentals but could not afford my own skates. So on a whim 10 years ago, I bought a pair of black Riddel low top speed skates with hot pink speed wheels. Used them a couple times and gave up. Just recently my 4 yo daughter has gotten into skating so I’m like, “here it is Melissa. Your chance to finally get it right.” And I’ve STRUGGLED! HARD STRUGGLED. I’ve watched so many videos and I’m so tired after skating because I’m trying so hard just to stay upright. Then…..I don’t know what video it was of yours, but you made a flippant comment of “you probably just need to adjust your trucks. It’s probably not you.” And it got me thinking…I never did any adjustments on my skates when I bought them. I, like most beginners, thought they were good right out the box. MAN WAS I WRONG! I watched a video from someone and they took a skate and showed how your trucks cushion pads should look for optimal flexibility. So I loosened my trucks until the spacer above the gasket started to move with my fingers. Not flopping around, just moving. MY GOODNESS! I put my feet on the floor and I’ve never felt so comfortable skating in my life! All because of the comment you made about the trucks. Thank you so much!
Being around other skaters who (nearly every week) see me skating and point out specific things I can do to improve my form. I am always so grateful to get tips from more experienced skaters.
Keep the videos and advice coming. Thanks DDH! Turning 60, and needed a low impact, cardio workout that I could do that also helps with my balance. Did cross country dirt bike racing till 5 years ago when I had a cerebral stroke and lost my balance (fall risk for 2 years). I'm actually better at it than I thought I'd be. Meeting the challenges, staying safe, like we used to say in dirt bike racing - all your safety gear, all the time.
I really loveee all your videos. Ive been watching your videos since ive started rollerskating a year ago by myself. I really value my progress. On the days that i dont really feel good, ill be like “its okay i will only do whatever i already can do”. On the days i wanted to try new skills or tricks i will really take some time, rewatching tutorials and such. Trust the process ❤
Thank you DD..changed my way of thinking, instead of focusing on the negatives of my skating.I will remind myself what I’m good at❤🛼 a year ago I couldn’t even skate on my own.
I believe your videos gives me confidence. I haven’t been on skates since I was a kid but I can tell wholeheartedly that your delivery in how you explain things is helpful. I just stumbled upon your video while researching roller skates and how to get back into it. BTW! You have a beautiful spirit and I love how childlike you are. Thank you so much you have a new subscriber. ❤🙏
I love how you broke this down into your own experience. I totally felt that "this one wasn't real", because it happens to me - I'll do something perfectly and then not get it again and get discouraged. Going to use your advice to isolate what you're doing well and I also love how you mentioned you drilled the same thing 100 times, going to try doing that as well.
I skate at least twice a week and it really is a case of practice, practice, practice. And not over-thinking the moves. Today I kind of zoned out a bit and found myself doing accidental backwards scissors perfectly. I'm hoping that this will also eventually happen with my outside edge 3-turn!
Hey Dirty D, I appreciate the advice you share in these videos and I thank you for sharing. I'm still a work in progress but none the less, I'm sending you love.✌🏼💋💕
I think my biggest challenge is trusting the process to completely go through with it especially when trying to turn from back to forward. Also I struggle with keeping balance I think I may move to quickly and don't give myself a chance to transfer weight.
Dude DD you are the best!!💓 I love how you broke it all down!! I could carry on trust me😆 look, my challenge is ditching the toe stops! My new jam plugs came in last week.....😅 look, back in the day when I was a competitive skater, I was totally used to not wearing toe stops, because I had my artistic set up and my freestyle set up, fast forward 36 years 🤣 dude I was a kid,!! Now, I got all the fundamentals back down, however the courage to take off those toe stops and eating shit holds me back! 😂 so challenge accepted! Thanks for the motivation and your encouraging experience! 💪💓💫🪐🌙🌞☄️🏋️♀️ love ya sis!
Btw, I still fall down and I think I'm a mess but I'm not going to give up on this activity that I once was really good at and enjoyed doing so much.😒😅
I'm 45 next month and did my first rollerskating, at least since I was 8 years old last Sunday. It was absolutely hilarious. I stopped skating when I was 8 after having my hands in my pockets and breaking my nose...ouchy. Anyhow, the 36 years absence kinda tells, my body has changed, I'm 6'2 around 280 pounds and with the skates on I feel like 7 foot. I completely forgot how to skate to be fair. Very large center of gravity. The two lady marshalls were great, and taught me the basics, I don't know how they could tell I was trying to fake skating, probably because I was glued to the floor when I put them on. First when I was trying to get the wheels moving they simply went backwards then forwards. So one of the skates was trying to go forwards but as I pushed my other leg back the other stake rolled backwards...it was ace. 🤣 I'm surprised it took me 1 hour to finally end up on me a's. The bending of the knees really helped keep the balance, and stop the stakes doing stup'd stuff. I don't want to be going backwards and forwards while flapping my arms as the stakes make me do a 360 degree somersault. However, somehow I managed to keep balance better than I thought I would. I only feel in the last minutes because my legs got so tired, quite a workout. I was worried the skates would give in and break as most bikes do with me...but they were ace too.
I love this! Exactly what happened with disco spins for me. I was doing these mini heel transitions for months and could not figure out for the life of me what I was doing wrong. Then boom one day almost six months in, light bulb. (From seeing someone else’s video and comparing it to mine.) I needed to keep my body straight. I still am working on getting lower but it’ll come. No stress, 👏🏻
Could/ have you ever made a video comparing outdoor skating on quads vs. inline skates? I've watched a couple of them by others, but I would really like to hear/see this from you. Thanks!
My challenge is a simple two-foot spin. It's one of the first things I wanted to do when I got my skates two years ago and I've been training for all this time and still dont have a reliable spin. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. I can do the spin but I can't hold for longer than four or five rotations without everything falling apart, and it took me SO LONG to even get to these many rotations. I can do harder jumps but I can't do the most basic spin and it's so frustrating.
My biggest challenge is changing from high boots to low cut/heel skates. I feel like I'm back to square one wall clinging 😬 Trying to shift my weight forward to compensate is not working.
my biggest challenge is outdoor skating. i can skate inside just fine and do all these things that i’m terrified to do outside. hopefully i get better :(
I am trying to overcome a heel-toe spin flaw I have. I have not yet learned to spin round and round, and I always stop spinning on the toe foot (I think). I really want to figure that one out. Since working on your drills I have learned to do a 360 on my awkward side, by doing downtown 360's over and over.. Learning from my good foot. I believe I wasn't turning out my bad foot enough. And more I am also learning to lean back on my heel on my very awkward side doing backwards figure 8's. I am really good on the one side, and I get glimpses of goodness on the bad side now lol..
Im really inspired to start - i live in England and not close to a rink - can i roller skate in the rain (it rains here A LOT lol) id be a beginner - love your channel btw!!
Hey Deb- I've been a fan of yours for a few years- you sent me a birthday video last year- and we have emailed a few times. I love to skate- it is a passion that warms me and brins me peace. I have been learning artistic style for the past year. However- 3 weeks ago, I was injured at work- and my lower left leg was amputated. I've been told that with the right prosthetic- I can skate again. I am heartbroken- in many ways- but determined. I'd love to send progress videos to you when the time comes-I bet there are amputees put there that would love to skate in fluid motion- maybe I can lead the way. Keep rolling on-
Been trying to get in touch with you for a minute!! I haven't skated in about 30 years, im 41! I wouldn't say I was the best skater but I definitely wasn't bad! I want to get back into it, just curious how hard you think it'll be or should memory take over and I'll do ok??
I'm just starting to skate outdoors. I have re-watched your outdoor videos over and over and always feel excited to go back out and try again. But once I get on that concrete, (that is really rough and horrible), I panic. I have 78a wheels, but as soon as I start to try and go, they get caught on the roughness of the concrete and I feel like I'm going to fall. Then I give up. I do ok if I skate on a smoother concrete, but the area that's like that is very narrow. So I feel like I'm not progressing at all. I really can't figure out what I'm doing that's right or wrong. I wish I had someone to help me, but I'm alone in a foreign country, so I have to do this by myself. If anyone reads this and has some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
Hello Dirty, I would’ve considered myself a rink rat back in the day. spent many many hours weekend skating, lessons…etc… but have not skated since I was probably 18. I am 55 now and want to start taking my grandkids skating which we did the other day and I rented skates which were awful. Had a blast skating hated the rentals. I am ordering a new pair of skates for me because I can’t fit in my old ones😢. But I guess my main question is do you have a video talking about kids getting back into skating in their later years.
I'm desperately looking for a lighter skate. I'm in vnlas right now. How can I get my skates much lighter. I've been skating almost a year. I cannot get my skates off the ground. Crossovers and transitions are just not happening. I think it'd be easier to lift my feet and maneuver if my skates were lighter. I'm 5'8+ 120lbs
My problem is that I’m partially deaf and was attacked from behind in my home. I didn’t hear him. I have to build up confidence that I’m ok where people are. I look forward to getting stronger and hitting the floor at our roller rink, hopefully by summer!!😍😍💗💗🛼🛼🛼🛼

I’m 31 and a beginner at skating. I was on blades for a little while as a kid, but could never understand quads. I felt a little discouraged the other day so I sat for a few minutes and changed my thinking. When I got up, I started checking my posture and I finally was able to start gliding and relaxing and not having so much fear. 😄🥹🛼🛼
I started on quads back in the 70's when there were no blades but then too a 40 year break from skating. I'm back now but I can't handle blades. They're completely weird. Like being stuck on train tracks. They don't turn corners. It's great that you are skating again. Wish I'd got back sooner. I'm 63 already.

I learned skating at 41 and am V 55 now. I did a lot of skiing which helped, and a bit of rollerblading in the 90's. But 42 is young!!

T-shirts? Dirty can you plz have the decal that’s on the T-strap shirts on a regular t-shirt
