I’m with you, if I personally had that exact Bone 🦴 Stag GEC, that would be my Favorite next to the Cattle knife. That stag is beautiful 😍. You’ve got a Lifer there for sure 👍 I would be 50/50 as well on the blade delete. That’s a tough decision. Myself I think I would keep the Pen blade just because I would want to keep it in its stock configuration. But I do not think it would be wrong if you did do the delete. It’s yours, so go with what you want for sure !!!! Just my two cents. Wonderful video ❤️👏
That's a splendid example, the #78 American Jack is one of GEC's 'statement knives'. I have the same in Cocobolo, and single-bladers in Smooth White Bone and Desert Ironwood. All lovely, but would be thrilled to find a good Stag example like yours - and I'd sooner lose an arm than delete the pen blade!
The more recent GEC stainless blades used 420HC (like my #651122 Fish Keeper), instead of the 440C used previously - unless I'm mistaken 420HC is what Buck uses on their standard range?
And my recently acquired GEC Practical Knives fixed blade H40 Hunter has the Acorn shield, but uses 1095 steel - go figure!
It sure is! You have a great set there then too it sounds like. I hear you on deleting the pen blade however it is really a pain in the neck to get to the main blade with it there. But as stated I’ll give it time and thought first.
But that’s interesting! I don’t keep up with their stainless models much but it does seem like they’re making a small comeback. The 420 I’ve never used so far but I may come into possession of one at some point.

Living in the UK not so easy to get a GEC and I only have one, No12 Texas Toothpick wit Rosewood covers, I also tend to but budget knives but really wanted the particular knife I bought although I would have preferred the Aqua bone covers, that is a great looking knife and buy mostly single blade knives but I think I would live with that knife it were mine, interested as to how you would remove pen blade would you dismantle knife or just cut the pen blade off and smooth remnants of tang, obviously I have never attempted to remove secondary blade so curious. 😊
Gorgeous Knife and it has my favorite blade pairing, a spear and a pen. Have you considered droping that pen just a hair. Would still be high enough to open and would give better access to the main blade. Anyway, new to the channel, subscribed and like the channel.
Haven’t thought about it cause I didn’t know it was an option! That could work in this case though for sure.
