  • A journey through paleart. Dinosaur illistrations map out the history of paleontology and our knowledge on prehistoric life since the 1800's. Edouard Riou, Charles R. knight, Zdenek Burian, Rudolph zallinger, John Sibbick, Emily Willoughby; Just some of the many paleo-artists that have helped to mold our fascination for Dinosaurs. Without these fantastic and talented minds, fossils would remain merely rocky insights into the past.

Charles R. Knight's mural was the picture in my first dinosaur book, never occurred to me that it was of different epochs and I wonder if he was left handed as the thing goes right to left, a common trait for creative lefties. Always liked the brontosaurus even though it's fallen out of favour since.

Another example of classic paleoart that we could cite is Disney's fantasy in Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring segment, it is literally a time capsule on the idea of the history of life on earth from the perspective of the In the 40s, we can see everything in it, from clumsy slow dinosaurs to pterosaurs that need to jump off a cliff in order to fly, as well as having one of the most terrifying T-rex in movie history (according to several, it seemed great to me )

Its really quite fascinating to see how folks from back in the day imagined dinosaurs. It makes sense why they often referred to them as dragons up until 1841 when the word dinosaur was coined.
Honestly I still like to think of them as dragons I mean for the majority of human history that is what they were viewed as but you know how scientists have to come along to classify and update everything. There still dragons to me tho with or w/o the fire breath 🔥 ❤️ 🐉 🦖 🦕

think about this... what if these "paleo art" are actually real beasts of mythical proportions just twisted, remember our history has been drastically altered! Unicorns, dragons, griffins, beasts are real

oldest paleo-art was probably the coolest..... 1993 everyone saw the current at the time representations of animals roughly realitically. Dilo and raptor were off. dilo wasnt 25 feet long it was tiny. raptor was more like a utah raptor not a velociraptor .. the size of an angry turkey with teeth and massive talons... rex was pretty accurate but still ud think they made it too big.... it was actually too small and we know that now. when this latest dino documentary (super accurate!) came along it painted dinos as accurate as possible as well.. and ended up the highlight was two t-rexes humping ......
    older paleo art was better.
