Interesting concept and exercise. Guessing I learned using both eyes open shooting traditional bows instinctively style years ago. Also, when hunting allows a peripheral view of what’s going on near your target animal.
I just tried this. Works great when it's dark out. I could see the target until I tried to aim. Opened the other eye and wow! It's hard to get use to at 53. Going to practice this more.
Once again another great video! Keep up the great work man! Love all ur videos!!!! You have helped me out so much. Im self taught by you and a few other channels but you give the most detailed advice on how to be better
Great topic. Thanks for sharing this. I notice for whatever reason if I’m wearing my hat. I’m wear mine low. And the sun is just right. I can shoot EASILY with both eyes open. If I take off my hat or the sun is at different angle. I get double images.
Nice video. Good practice drill. I love the sound of an Elite. I am shooting the Ethos. One small critique and a compliment. Your release is breaking nicely (compliment). Now the critique . You don't need that exergerated follow thru. When your shot breaks the natural follow thru stops about above your shoulder and you can see that in your shot sequence. For shooters that understand shooting a hinge it looks kinda silly because we know its exaggerated.
I can’t remember where I picked this up. Probably at a BS session at an archery tournament. At 76 many of the specifics get faded. I have applied this technique 2-3 times a year for many years.
My problem is, my left eye is just very slightly less powerful than my dominant eye, so when I shoot with both eyes open, I get double vision. I have not figured out how to fix that, besides squinting my left eye while aiming.
That is fair! I personally believe as long as you’re shooting with your dominant eye you’re on the right path! Fully open or squinting is definitely better than your off eye shut!
I hear you on that! I’m not sure where you’re at but here in NE I haven’t been able to film outside in what feels like a week! We’ve definitely been due the rain for the last few years but when it rains it pours!
I started learning on my non dominant eye because I had no idea that’s how archery works and it might be alittle too late to go back now…I currently shoot with my other eye squinted…what would you suggest
It definitely is gonna sting a little since it sounds like most your equipment is probably based around your non-dominant eye, but I would recommend switching. Maybe not right away, just next time you upgrade bows get the dexterity that matches your dominant eye, upgrade equipment for here for it and you’ll have a set up that’s back to 100% in due time! I personally don’t think there’s really a “point of no return,” but at the same time I understand guys aren’t going to want to go and get a whole new set up right away haha. I’d say work towards it and in the long run, I believe you’ll be thankful you did!
You can see the pins with your dominant eye and the target with your non dominant eye and your brain puts the image together so you can see the pins on the target!
I have a buddy who i realized recently is shooting with his non dominant eye. I cant convince him to get a left handed bow. Would this exercise even work for him?
After watching this video and @_BrianScott decided to try this. I already shoot with both eyes open anyway. However,I definitely noticed my groups getting tighter and smaller the more I shot. Will definitely be adding this to my practice routine from now on.
I try to shoot both eyes open but I find I start with one closed then open it to see the whole picture. Blocking out my sight sounds sketchy lol. Nice job though :)

That’s an awesome training too. I’m gonna have to try that. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for the support!

Great video as usual. I'll definitely be trying it.

@@joshuadouglasarchery I hear you on that, I think that will be my next move once I decide to upgrade…thanks for the advice bro
@@whatisarchery anytime boss!
With the tape over the sight, what are you using to aim? I dont understand. You said you were aiming at the orange square but how?
You can see the pins with your dominant eye and the target with your non dominant eye and your brain puts the image together so you can see the pins on the target!
very interesting...will give it a try for sure

It definitely wouldn’t work if you’re shooting with your non dominant eye, your dominant eye takes over and your pins won’t line up over the target!
I really enjoyed the video and I definitely think I’m going to try this !
Let me know how it goes!
@@joshuadouglasarchery for sure dude 🤘🏻😊
I tried it and it seems to help. But it’s definitely. Something for me i started up close (: thanks for the tip 🤜🏻🤛🏻
wonder if this works too with target archery @ 50m
It totally should!!
Imma try it, I'll let you know how it goes. Great vid
Thank you! Let me know what you think 💪🏻
I do not use a scope, but shoot with both eyes open all the time
Interesting....I'll have to try

Consistently hitting about 2” left as a right handed shooter. Interesting tactic
Thank you!
I try to shoot both eyes open but I find I start with one closed then open it to see the whole picture. Blocking out my sight sounds sketchy lol. Nice job though :)
I’d say give it a try up close at least!
I've tried to shoot with both eyes open but my left eye is my dominate eye and im right handed.
I personally would recommend switching to a left hand bow, it’s gonna be weird for a few months but it will help in the long run!
Occluded shootong, very common pistol shooting tool, pushed by some of the best pistol shooters in the world like Ben Stoeger.
Yes indeed! I picked it up from GBRS at a training event, never seen it done in the archery space!
@@joshuadouglasarchery i believe a guy named Joel Park in the omaha area works with stoeger and trains in that area.
Keep them comming
This doesn't work for me because I'm slightly crosseyed .
Darn that’s too bad! I didn’t even think of that
That's a very interesting technique. It definitely won't be for everyone.
True! I think people who don’t shoot with their dominant eye would have troubles for sure, they’ll end up not hitting the target.
Hey man My wife watches with me lol 2 ladies!
Haha let’s go! Glad to hear there’s more out there 😂
