  • Adderall, Ritalin and other stimulants are used to treat ADHD. Our practice in Philadelphia will sometimes utilize these medications, but they have risks, and we often prefer initially utilizing non-controlled medications first, with less risks of abuse, dependence, tolerance and withdrawal. These medications work by increasing the transmission and availability of norepinephrine and dopamine in the central nervous system. Because of their side effect of increasing energy, they can also be used in narcolepsy. It's important to never start, stop or change medication dose without speaking directly with your provider, as these medications can have serious side effects.
Dr. Pagnani is the Medical Director of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates in Philadelphia, PA and surrounding areas. Their practice has 25 Academically oriented provides and is now scheduling in-office and telemedicine visits.
