I love your workouts and how you teach. I have osteoporosis even though I have always been active and eat well. I am 62 and am so confused by all the different things I read about building bone density. Having been a runner for over 40 years as well as strength training I was shocked to have osteoporosis. And now I read about having to”lift heavy” which confuses me as it puts lots of load on my spine. Especially if I am lifting overhead I can feel it in my back. So, I do what feel right for me but am I helping my bones?
I agree, it all so conflicting and confusing. The truth is the right recipe is different for every person based on other health factors. Lifting heavier weight is know to help bone density, but sometimes we need to modify exercises to not irritate a joint or injury. It's a balance. That's why I often tell people to get specific guidance and coaching to optimize your training. It's also important to say that lifting heavy does not start the first day, week, or month. It needs to be built slowly over time. Keep up the great work!
