A few fun facts... 1. The haunted house in this story is the same one used as Wester Drumlins in Blink. 2. The character Harry was originally going to be the grandson of former Classic Who companion Harry Sullivan, but it was cut. (a remnant of this idea is the scene in which he acts like he knows who the Doctor is) 3. This story was given a special sound treatment which gave the house that more creepy feel, such as the scene when you hear knocking from all sides.
You’re so right about the Twelfth Doctor being much better in this season. I think it’s because his Teacher and Student relationship with Bill suited him MUCH more than his relationship with Clara, who often overshadowed him. Peter Capaldi was always brilliant, but I don’t think the Twelfth Doctor was always great until this season, when they finally got him right!
Both 11 and 12 had really good Character arcs. I think this season, the pressure was off Moffatt to deliver a major story arc. He had pretty much wrapped up all the major threads started with Doctors:. River, the Ponds, losing Gallifrey, the finding of Gallifrey, the mystery of Clara, Clara's fate. So the only thing he really had to concentrate on was a small arc for Bill and Nardole and telling interesting stories.
This was a really good episode, but special mention must go to David Suchet, the best bloody actor to take on Poirot ever, and excellent here in a role very, very much unlike that one. I love that he shifts from your typical ominous villain into a far more tragic and broken figure than one might expect. Last scene with him and his mother is creepy and upsetting. Classic Who, in short.
Sleep must wait. This is one of my favourite episodes, David Suchet is the icing on the cake and plays brilliantly off every actor. The makeup team did a fantastic job, and the story is both terrifying and heartbreaking. Can’t wait for the next reaction, loving every single one ☺️
Knock Knock is quite underrated, there's lots of episodes in Series 10 that aren't trying to be too epic or anything, but just very gripping and well written, along with great epic episodes.
@@maxeyre2024 ya I love how many of these this season were vary good and on the level of some of the more epic action episodes with out needing or trying to be exactly just the story and the acting doing that
Again, you've timed your Doctor Who December almost perfectly! We only found out 2 days ago when season 11 premiers, which means we now know that it'll conclude on December 9th, so you'll be starting season 11 JUST as we're finishing it. WE'LL GET TO WATCH IT ALL OVER AGAIN WITH YOU STRAIGHT AFTER!!!!!!!! The announcement nearly gave me a heart attack, though, so thanks for that. BUT YESS I AM HYYYYPED!!!! Oh, and your face during the vault scenes is everything. I cannot wait for that. And the rest of the season. AAAHH.
'Knock Knock' is another underrated story from Series 10 that I absolutely loved! I'm a sucker for haunted house stories and this one was nicely creepy and atmospheric. Considering that this was Mike Bartlett's (Doctor Foster creator, which Sesska should definitely check out!) first Doctor Who, he made a damn good first entry. The explanation for the whole mystery with the house was good, the ever-amazing David Suchet was brilliant and the makeup alone deserves an award.
I had a feeling the Doctor Who December was gonna be catching up for the Christmas special. The last Doctor Who December is when I subscribed to you and started watching your videos consistently instead of just the odd reaction. It still feels like it was all just a few weeks ago, but since then you've watched the entire SJA and almost all of the Capaldi era.
Great intro. I don't have time to watch this right now, but Doctor Who December! You made last December so wonderful. I can't wait to see what all you will put in our stockings this year.
One of my favorite things that I love about his episode: It reminded me of the horror era of Tom Baker's run. Philip Hinchcliffe and Robert Holmes were big fan of the Gothic literture, and wanted to capture "Alien" version of the character.
Great news of Series 11 being completed in Dr Who December. As usual when a reactor gets to "Knock knock" I mention that the actress who played Eliza was Ophelia in the production of Hamlet starring David Tennant and a few others, so there you go.
+Robert Payne, and the first piano piece played by the entity in the vault was Beethoven's _Für Elise_ . ('Elise' = Eliza: weird, that.) Somebody in Who-land likes their Beethoven; there have been nods to Ludwig van B in both series 9 and 10, and parts of Murray Gold's score for _Heaven Sent_ were almost a tribute act for Beethoven's 7th. I have the DVD of the Tennant/Stewart Hamlet. I'll have to refresh on it, because the Eliza connection didn't connect to my single-cell brain. (I also have the DVD of the full-length Branagh/Jacobi/pretty much everyone else version, which I prefer, but the Tennant one had its points of merit.)
Its as if they have it all planned. Tennant's "To be or not to be" was the first time I realised what the speech was about. Lots of weird sets but I enjoyed the natural way the old English was spoken. Did you notice one of Hamlets friends was also a background Timelord in an episode?
We haven’t even seen Series 11 yet and I’m so excited to see your reaction to it 😂 Looking forward to seeing this episode too, it’s one of the more underrated from the season, I love the creepy atmosphere!
In a weird way, almost sad to see you catch up - then I remember you have all the rest of the classic series to catch up on. Looking forward to you catching up with Ian, Babs, Susan and 1! Modern and classic is all one big series, which is great! :)
I waited all day yesterday for the reaction I kept checking the channel every 10 minutes from the moment I woke up till the moment I slept. And turns out I found out you posted now lol. It’s all good, the point I’m trying to make is this channel is like a drug I literally can never wait to watch a reaction.
Loving that intro, and can't wait for your reactions this December! This was a strange, but fascinating episode--I always enjoy it when Doctor Who sort of takes a field trip into another genre for a one-off like this.
The first few stories of this season are basically the setup for new companions and the vault story. Things do start to heat up in the next episode. I won’t give any spoilers, but the Docto, Bill, and Nardole really make a great TARDIS team.
Thank you for another great reaction video, Sesska! This is not one of the most interesting episodes in Season 10, imho. I wish they wouldn't introduce new characters, like Bill's friends, then write them out again. However, I was impressed with Pearl's performance in this.
Dear Sesska, Considering your enthusiasm for haunted houses and creepiness in general, also the fact that you love a good cry when opportunity arises, you are a prime candidate for seeing one of the most perfect movies in the world: The Orphanage (2007, J.A. Bayona) It is usually categorized as a horror movie, yet, adult men are known to bawl their eyes out at the end part (me included). You probably have seen it already. If not, stop everything you are doing until you have.
Woo-hoo! New Doctor Who December promo! Can't wait for you to be caught up. :) Season 11 should air its last episode on December 9th for us, with the Christmas Special two weeks later. So I imagine there'll be a bit of overlap but that just means there'll be a lot of your videos for us to watch. :) Anyway, great reaction. :D See, Jess would never die in a horror movie. As soon as she sees the creepy man or the creepy house, she'd walk away. This episode doesn't sit right with me for two reasons: imagine you go into work one morning and you overhear your two co-workers discussing an episode of a TV show they saw last night: Guy 1: "Can you believe how that episode ended? A murder-suicide!?" Guy 2: "I know ... and even worse, the mother murdered her own son!" You: "What show are you guys talking about? Luther? Breaking Bad? American Horror Story?" Guy 1: "... Doctor Who." So that's one reason. The other reason is that David Suchet's character -- the villain -- being killed like that doesn't seem right. He was so childlike in many ways, like when he broke down at the end and cried in his mother's arms. It felt very un-Doctor Who-like to kill him. I feel like he should've been saved and had to learn to live without his mother, in spite of his crimes. I keep thinking back to The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and how it DIDN'T end with Nancy and Jamie in a murder-suicide.
Awesome trailer for Doctor Who December. The person in the vault's reaction to the Doctor's mention of young people being eaten should give you some clue of who they are if you think about it. I'm happy you are loving the 12th Doctor and that he is your second favorite incarnation so far. That last bit is a major compliment coming from you.
So excited for Doctor Who December. The series 11 reactions are going to be a delight and I'm sure whatever else you've got planned is going to be great too. However, I hope you do some of those retrospective opinion videos on your favourite series, Doctors, era's, companions etc, that I mentioned to you some time ago. I think hearing you talk in depth about these things would be really interesting.
"Knock Knock! Mahu Ku Perhatian. Talk Talk! Mahu Ku Kau Buktikan. Jangan Tersalah. Jangan Tersilap. Jangan Abaikan Ku." - Elizabeth Tan English (Literal) Translation : "Knock Knock! I Want An Attention. Talk Talk! I Want You To Prove It. Don't Be Wrong. Don't Make Mistake. Don't Ignore Me." I'm sorry XD. It's a lyrics of a song, sung by a Malaysian singer. Title "Knock Knock" So it was a bit funny for me when this episode was aired, with that title being used XD And WooHoo!! Doctor Who December!!! :D
Doctor promises a story about a house that eats people, entity inside plays "Pop goes the Weasel." When I heard that, I knew the identity of the vault prisoner. So fine it blew my mind.
The writer of this episode has revelead that Harry is the grandson of a previous companion of the Fourth Doctor, Harry Sullivan. Harry Sullivan was already mentioned in the episode "The Zygon Inversion", as the "imbecile" who created the anti-Zygon Z-67 gas.
"Harry, did you make the rocks fall?" "Why, er, yes. I rather think I did" "Harry Sullivan is an imbecile!" Fun note: Ian Marter who played Harry wrote a large number of the novelisations.
Sometimes when a Doctor Who episode takes place in contemporary times ( as in the hear and now ), it's usually done right sometimes.... and wrong sometimes, for example,in the done right department, 2012's 11th Doctor adventure, The Power of Three; the penultimate episode for Amy Pond and hubby Rory Williams-Pond. The way 11 and the Ponds took on those cubes and themselves in a 2012 London setting, an excellent mixture of humor, adventure, danger and a slice of contemporary life.... but there was NO big name star in it....they got away with it 😁. Fast forward five years, and a Doctor and companions later, you arrived with 2017's Knock Knock, a really good contemporary Haunted House episode in a 2017 setting....AND with David Suchet, the legendary Poirot himself as the creepy Landlord. Contemporary, because you got Bill Potts and her College friends looking for a place to stay, the music of that time ( love Little Mix ) and a seemingly casual house. Then they came across 12, minding his own business, interacting with the group, love the Quincy Jones reference, and then things really get mysteriously dangerous. This episode is a haunted house story with an interesting mixture of mystery, chills, suspense and some revelations ( like the voracious Dryads inhabitanting the walls, engulfing its victims whole, and the mysterious Dryad daughter of the Landlord). Science Fiction because of the Dryads involvement with the house itself, and revelations with the Dryad Elsa herself. I'm a bit puzzled as to why Bill's friends was captured.... and rescued, but not those who were in the lease, that kinda stump me, I love the way 12 said to her friends better luck next time.... and read the FINE PRINT before agreeing anything. And who's playing Pop Goes the Weasel? Is there someone in the Vault... What is 12 REALLY guarding inside that might possibly be dangerous?!? Phew, almost done. Your reaction is quite refreshing and pleasing Sesska, this is an excellent Contemporary Haunted House / SciFi episode, a dangerous adventure....with 💜. I enjoyed it... and Episode 4 as well... what will Episode 5 bring to the table? To Be Continued....😉. Disclaimer: I had to do this because I had go to work now..in fact I am at work....times up.. hope you enjoyed my reaction / comment on Knock Knock... gotta run...😊 👋!
i think this is one of my favourite season 10 episodes tbh. it's been a while so i'll probably think of another favourite as i watch these reactions but even so. i loved the vibe of this episode - the creepy, haunting feel it gives you is brilliant.
Kudos to Maestro McKeown for the DW Dec trailer. And a year's supply of Jammie Dodgers and jelly babies. Good work. Feeling smug for being one of those who 'got the math right', plus also for a speculative call that S11 might fit into the DW Dec plans. I'd already been considering holding off on S11 for a while (I'm too old and grumpy to get caught up in 'must-see-it-asap' hype), so I think I might well hold off until December so that I can watch each episode followed immediately by Jessica's reaction. And Jessica was wondering about 'epic' for S11. Yes, the 'epic' will come. And not long now before the mystery of the vault will be a mystery no longer. Thanks, Jessica, good job as always. [Edit later: fixed a misreference to S11 as S10. Dagnabbit, I keep doing that... :( :) ]
+Adam Darren: ;) 'Math' - I wrote it as Jessica said it. Basic (but optional) courtesy to use the same jargon/dialect as the channel owner. Which admittedly often leaves me drifting aimlessly somewhere in the mid-Atlantic... ;)
If my calculations are correct, and assuming you keep doing one episode every Friday, you should be watching the S10 finale on November 2nd, the Christmas Special on the 9th, and you'll do the review on the 16th. :)
Well I do understand that. What I meant is that even if the reaction doesn't go out that day or the next, she still will probably have *watched* the episode more or less at the same time as the rest of us, which is still awesome!
Funny enough, David Suchet and Peter Capaldi have worked together before, when Peter was a guest star on an episode of "Poirot" back in 1991, when Peter was in his early 30s. Here's a clip from that episode someone posted on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/KvyOJPqz9Ho/видео.html
Awesome reaction also I have a suggestion for December if you’re taking any comments into consideration but you’ll have to watch it after the Christmas special for series 10 the video is called Doctor Who we will rock you tribute and the thumbnail is a collage of all 13 doctors the creator is called Tardis Elliot I think it’s an awesome tribute to the show.
“If you could save the person who brought you into this world, wouldn’t you?” - creepy old man This is what makes me appreciate Bill after the old man inserted that idea in Bills head about being able to save her mum (as she knows she can travel in time with the doctor) she didn’t decide to attempt to change time, she never even asked the doctor once if they could and save her mother. I appreciate that she didn’t do what rose did with her father, she was smart.
It cracks me up that while everyone else is running to get out of the house Harry is slowly ambling like he's going to the corner store for a quart of milk. The first time I watched this I was a little put out about them all coming back to life at the end, but upon a second viewing that doesn't bother me as much. This is still a creepy, atmospheric, well made episode.
This episode is definitely one of my favorites in the season (if you don't count the Christmas special). I love how it's both creepy and emotional and we got more of an inside look into Bill's life so we got to know more about her. For me at least this episode really ticked all the boxes.
I enjoyed the story of this episode a lot but visually it was hard for me. Those scarabs in The Mummy? Part of the reason I have a serious bug phobia. Otherwise, I'm all for spooky mom house eating college kids lol. I'm enjoying this season so far! I've loved twelve and I'm gonna miss him so I agree I hope his send off is excellent.
I agree, I was happy to see them go back to the more singular stories. Wasn't very impressed by this episode. Too bad, cos it had a good guest cast. David Suchet usually is wonderful. Wooden Lady was Ophelia to David Tennant's Hamlet. She also makes an appearance in Broadchurch next series.
"I hope you guys are really really excited for that", no kidding. I'm almost more excited for these reactions than actually watching Season 11 itself
I think Jodie is going to be fantastic as the doctor.
@@bryanbeck7293 lol funny reading that 3 years later🥴
@arrjae404 I know right😂 Oh how the things so much fcked up in a few years..

Ya when I found out about the connection it was fun
It's actually next door to the house in Blink I think
7pitpat7 checked it again, and it is the exact same house.
I wish 12 called him an Imbecile as a homage
If the idea hadn't been cut, it is possible that he had.

Agreed. Capaldi is excellent this season, and I do think it's because his dynamic with Bill is better than it was with Clara.
Bill was so much more relatable and down to Earth than Clara, the dynamic worked better.
I thought he got better with we got to series 9 really. I like him in series 8 as well.

Dear Sesska,
Considering your enthusiasm for haunted houses and creepiness in general, also the fact that you love a good cry when opportunity arises, you are a prime candidate for seeing one of the most perfect movies in the world:
The Orphanage (2007, J.A. Bayona)
It is usually categorized as a horror movie, yet, adult men are known to bawl their eyes out at the end part (me included).

This episode doesn't sit right with me for two reasons: imagine you go into work one morning and you overhear your two co-workers discussing an episode of a TV show they saw last night:

Guy 2: "I know ... and even worse, the mother murdered her own son!"
You: "What show are you guys talking about? Luther? Breaking Bad? American Horror Story?"
Guy 1: "... Doctor Who."
So that's one reason.

Super excited for DWD 2: Electric Boogaloo!
i think this is one of my favourite season 10 episodes tbh. it's been a while so i'll probably think of another favourite as i watch these reactions but even so. i loved the vibe of this episode - the creepy, haunting feel it gives you is brilliant.
Hoping for some 4th doctor reactions in December. Maybe city of death. Love that
She has already revealed that she plans to watch and react to Classic Who, from the start, some time after watching series 11.
Some time in 2019*
She'll be watching in order, so don't get too excited for 4th Doctor anytime soon!
Great intro, great reaction, and wow, wow, wow!! You're going to see your numbers go up for sure in December (if not sooner)!! ;-)
Hoping you will be able to catch up with S11 in time to share a same-day Christmas special reaction!
Can't wait. Last year's Doctor Who December was amazing. Capaldi is a Brilliant Doctor
Elder Wraith ✌️✌️
Maths ;)
+Adam Darren:
;)
'Math' - I wrote it as Jessica said it. Basic (but optional) courtesy to use the same jargon/dialect as the channel owner. Which admittedly often leaves me drifting aimlessly somewhere in the mid-Atlantic... ;)
I guess you missed the obvious wink at the end.
+Adam Darren, no, I didn't miss it. but I made sure to make my return wink even more obvious. :)
aah sesska it’s 12am here so i need to go to sleep but i’ll make sure to watch this tomorrow bc i love these reactions ☺️💛
The thing in the safe was playing pop goes the weasel? Isn't it obvious? It's the marionette from Five Nights at Freddy's!
If my calculations are correct, and assuming you keep doing one episode every Friday, you should be watching the S10 finale on November 2nd, the Christmas Special on the 9th, and you'll do the review on the 16th. :)
You should really watch the "Pond Life" minisode for Doctor Who December.
I cried like a baby when they revealed he's her son. David Suchet did an amazing job here!
I love the intro to this video
OMG I loved the intro!!!
This probably means that Seeska will be caught up and watching the Christmas episode right along side the rest of us at first transmission!!!
DrTenochtitlan i wonder wát her reaction will be when she see the new doctor?
Don't think we can expect her to watch and edit a reaction on Christmas Day when she's also giving 30 other days of DW goodies =]
Well I do understand that. What I meant is that even if the reaction doesn't go out that day or the next, she still will probably have *watched* the episode more or less at the same time as the rest of us, which is still awesome!
Oh yes! It will certainly be a better situation than what it has been in the past haha.
You should definitely do some reactions for some Doctor Who tribute videos. There are so many good ones out there.
Funny enough, David Suchet and Peter Capaldi have worked together before, when Peter was a guest star on an episode of "Poirot" back in 1991, when Peter was in his early 30s. Here's a clip from that episode someone posted on RUclips:

Awesome reaction also I have a suggestion for December if you’re taking any comments into consideration but you’ll have to watch it after the Christmas special for series 10 the video is called Doctor Who we will rock you tribute and the thumbnail is a collage of all 13 doctors the creator is called Tardis Elliot I think it’s an awesome tribute to the show.
“If you could save the person who brought you into this world, wouldn’t you?” - creepy old man
This is what makes me appreciate Bill after the old man inserted that idea in Bills head about being able to save her mum (as she knows she can travel in time with the doctor) she didn’t decide to attempt to change time, she never even asked the doctor once if they could and save her mother. I appreciate that she didn’t do what rose did with her father, she was smart.
good job on that intro, can't wait!
"Excited" is a quite weak word for this! 12 weeks to December, the countdown just started
“Better not cry” *shows Ten crying*
I start crying.
Godammit
It cracks me up that while everyone else is running to get out of the house Harry is slowly ambling like he's going to the corner store for a quart of milk. The first time I watched this I was a little put out about them all coming back to life at the end, but upon a second viewing that doesn't bother me as much. This is still a creepy, atmospheric, well made episode.
Wow! Caught up at Christmas! Blimey! I'm really looking forward to December!
The only thing that lets this episode down is all of Bill's friends are resurrected which takes away the scare factor
Season 10 is very consistent. Glad you are enjoying it!
Nice December plug! :)
This episode is definitely one of my favorites in the season (if you don't count the Christmas special). I love how it's both creepy and emotional and we got more of an inside look into Bill's life so we got to know more about her. For me at least this episode really ticked all the boxes.
Yeahhhh I feel about bugs about how you feel about snakes so THIS EPISODE IS SUPER FUN. But I'm so excited for Doctor Who December and season 11!!
IM SO EXCITED FOR DOCTOR WHO DECEMBER !!!!!
Haven't realised until now this reminds me of flatline
I enjoyed the story of this episode a lot but visually it was hard for me. Those scarabs in The Mummy? Part of the reason I have a serious bug phobia. Otherwise, I'm all for spooky mom house eating college kids lol.
I'm enjoying this season so far! I've loved twelve and I'm gonna miss him so I agree I hope his send off is excellent.
I love how Jess is so sensible
I agree, I was happy to see them go back to the more singular stories. Wasn't very impressed by this episode. Too bad, cos it had a good guest cast. David Suchet usually is wonderful. Wooden Lady was Ophelia to David Tennant's Hamlet. She also makes an appearance in Broadchurch next series.
Dr Who rule #1. Never admit you like a character out loud, they'll immediately get eaten by wood bugs.
Rule 2. Because rule 1 the doctor lies
I love the intro!!!!!
CANT FREEKING WAIT FOR THIS DECEMBER!!!
"you should be scared, that house is probably going to eat you". Things that Dr Who fans say.
That was a cool intro
Priceless reaction!
OKAY BUT THAT INTRO THO
