- A final video about the Mamiya 645 shutter problem the affects so many cameras. In this video we look at the Solenoid that controls the secondary shutter curtain and Mirror down function.
Just to add the likely process for triggering the solenoid is a pulse of some kind will arrive at the transistor that will act as a switch that connects the fully charged capacitor to the solenoid to energise it. The Diode will be protection from reverse voltage when the electromagnetic field collapses in the solenoid. If the capacitor is faulty it may not be able to store enough charge to activate the solenoid.
Hi, my 645 Super seems to be having this problem. Where are you located?
Hi Eric, I am located in the UK.
i just got a 645 super that has a very similar problem to this, but if i give it a light tap, the mirror and shutter will get unstuck and then i can advance and take the next shot. do you think it is the capacitor in my case causing this?
Hi, It's more likely to be a sticky solenoid or the solenoid mounting screws may have worked loose. If you are going to strip it down i'd change the capacitor, clean any of the electromagnet contacts and check the solenoid operation by applying a voltage directly to it. 6v in the case of the pro and Pro TL.

First of all, thank you for the Mamiya videos. I have a question if you don't mind. When I wind the camera and push the lever down which mechanically should release the mirror and open the shutter curtain, only the mirror goes up but the shutter stays closed. What could cause this? Thanks again.
My guess would be the wind mechanism is not fully cocking the shutter curtain mechanism. does the curtain fully travel across and lock into place when you wind it? if if does can you manually trigger the shutter curtain by pushing the white pin across?
@@davehyper7835 thank you for near instant reply! I have managed to fix this issue by manually winding shutter curtain gear a little to move it to further position, then everything went in sync (or it was just a lucky reassembling that did the trick). Now the camera works unless I put the film back on, automatic winder will wind till S switches to 1 on the film back and then it wont react to pressing the button. If I remove the film back everything works again.
OK I forgot to remove the dark slide. Now the Mamiya is working in full. Thanks again, best of luck, will come around again!
I wish you where located in USA my Mamiya 645 have some relative issue If I left the battery on while I not using the camera the mirror got stuck I have to remove the battery in and out until the camera works normally again, any suggestion
Hi Dave. Might you accept a repair from me, or are you doing this for private/fun? I'm UK based and have the same issue, but I think the technical fix is beyond me so would be grateful if you could take a look.
Hi Alex, Happy to carry out a repair for you. Could you email me davehyper@gmail.com
