The amazing pictures, video, the music and most of all your narration makes it such a great storytelling. Your work is so personal it feels like you are representing your area and your background. Really thoughtful storytelling. Makes it stand apart from your standard US based photographers shooting NYC or LA. This work will stand the test of time and mean something lot more.
Thank you so much, Neerav! I saw your comment shortly after the video went up, which was 9am here. I really made my day!
Sorry it took me three years to find this, but thank you for the recognition. I love your photos and you really got some great context going here!
haha no worries, Sarah!
Great video - I’m nearby, and while my usual subject is transportation related, I too love urban scenes : both your work and this video give me (and I’m sure others) inspiration
Its nostalgic and a bit sad, places like Haberman's were once thriving mom and pop shops that dotted not only the rural US but the rural parts of Canada too. I remember back to an old holiday visit to see family out in Long Island N.Y. for a wedding, and there used to be an old camera shop - another mom and pop place back in the late 70's, I was only 17 back then, and I bought a used black Minolta SRT-201 from a place called Stableman's Camera World, and that place had a similar type sign, don't know if its still there. But I tell you what, I still have the camera, and the memories of that trip out to Long Island. Documenting through photography, places like that, and like Haberman's is a worthy if not necessary pursuit. We examine ourselves, our lives, from searching these documented photographs, and we are touched by the familiarity and by the loss. I just think photography is a wonderful way to connect with ourselves, our past, and where we are heading now, nice work Robbie. Great little video.
I really appreciate you sharing your story and leaving some nice words. Happy Holidays :)
Beautiful photos and amazing music for the vibes !
Thanks, Toney!
Love seeing the 645 in such great condition, but in some truly capable hands putting in the work!
Thank you, Cam!
Great story telling and thanks so much for the shout out, I’ve also followed Sarah for years and...yay Ektar! I feel like Ektar got a bad rap when it came out because the common scanners of the day couldn’t handle its color palette. My first shots with it showed everything people hated about it: Caucasian skin tones with the boiled lobster look and what looked like very little highlight headroom. All that changed when I started developing and scanning my own film using NegativeLabPro and a Sony A7Riv.
On including background? Always. I’ll shoot detail shots, especially if they are unique, or in the case of something like Roy’s, so well known that everyone instantly knows what you’re shooting. But mostly I try to let the subject tell the story. In recent years we’ve seen a movement, especially in New Mexico, of financially privileged sign collectors basically stripping all of these roadside relics away. This robs them of their context and divorces them from their story. Because of trends like these I often feel like I’m one step ahead of all of it disappearing. Shoot them while you can, shoot them well, and shoot them often because it’s all on life support. In the case of businesses that are still in operation, I always go out of my way to go inside let the owners know I appreciate what they’re doing to keep the old stuff alive and I’ll make some kind of purchase even if it’s just something token like a postcard or T-shirt. Ultimately a thriving business is vintage signage’s best friend. Thanks again for the kind words.
Thank you so much for watching, Tim! I could not agree more in regards to supporting these businesses. I will go out of my way to make sure they know its appreciated. This video was a little token of my appreciation to some of my favorites in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
I love my Mamiya 645 and love my 55mm , excellent video and music thanks
Thank you, Guillermo!
Great video. I recently purchased a used Mamiya and can't wait to get out there with it. I am hunting down a nice 55mm still !!!
Great video and photos.
Great location Robbie while a cold hard reality how things are for those unfortunate to ourselves. Stellar images of course too!
Thank you, Gavin. It's something that I photograph a lot but I never put that stuff in my videos. This one just fit and didn't impact any individual.
Great video, Robbie. Again, another, different subject . KB
Thanks, KB!
slowly growing into one of my favorite channels
Thank you, George! I appreciate you watching :)
Brilliant. Really, really well put together.
Much appreciated buddy!
Robbie,
Fantastic work as usual!
Thank you for being an inspiration and a source of information for me!!
Be well
Thank you :)
Enjoyed this, your best yet. Excellent. Great to see a little slice of America. Thanks for sharing and we'll done!!!!
Thank you so much, Wally!
as always super duper tasteful video! love your work so much, Robbie! :)
Thank you very much :)
Your best work to date! The edit is fantastic and the pacing is on point!
Thank you so much, Daniel!
When I see alleys I always make sure to look around the more sketchy the better 😂
haha I couldn't agree more!
Enjoyed watching Robbie, love this idea for a project. Great shots 👌✌
Certainly something to look into! Thanks for watching :)
Great video man! Lovely pictures, cool vibe and stunning b-roll shots. It stumbled into my feed because I recently bought the mamiya 645 1000s and I am glad it did!
haha much appreciated Vik!
I love vintage signs as well. As a graphic designer and sign maker! This is what I should be taking but I find myself shooting other things such as vintage vehicles just as a get away from what I do all day. Hahaha! Great video man! The Mamiya is a great camera and small enough to conceal in those areas of questionable surroundings! Stay safe and see you again in your next video!
I think you got the right idea! Thanks for stopping by :)
Absolutely amazing video! Editing, commentary, music, it's all first class!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just Love it. Thanks
Thank you my dude!
Wow really made me miss the east coast. Great imagery and the Mamiya takes amazing photos!
Thank you, Kristie! Its such a cute little camera lol
Nice camera, great camera! I use 6x6 medium format, often thought about the 645, in my mind, the 645 is basically a rectangular crop of the 6x6, so if someone wants the landscape format, then 645 is the way to go unless one jumps to 6x7, 6x8, 6x9 and 4x5.
Great tips for safety Robbie!
I think I prefer 645 and 6x6 with Medium Format after tons of tests.. You're spot on, its perfect for landscapes.
Really like the narrative-style approach to this! Great shots!
Thank you! Trying something a little different :)
Great vid today Robbie! These shots look awesome.
Thank you so much, Ravi!
The coloring of your videos always stands out amongst other youtubers. Once again like your other videos the coloring on this is really well done Robbie!
Thank you, buddy! Been really digging your work lately, keep it up.
11:27 love that image. Thanks for the video, it was great.
Thank you very much! I'm always amazed when people like my images
@@RobbieMaynardCreates Yah, I understand that feeling. But the work is good and continuing to do the work will only make it better. I find your videos incredibly compelling. Letting us in on your process as you make the work is helpful to me as well as others, I’m sure.
What a great project, Robbie. Nice work!
Thank you, Rich!
That was soooooo beautiful!📸
Thank you so much :)
Another GREAT video, thanks!
Thank you my buddy!
nice video - great story telling! Thanks man!
Thank you buddy!
Robbie I love this video 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 I would like to see more videos like this 🙂
Coming right up! lol
A great camera Robbie, i used the camera a lot in the early 90's.
Its a great little tool thats really easy to use!
Ektar is becoming one of my favorite film stocks. It's so much more vivid than anything else Kodak is making and it lends itself perfectly to sort of "urban landscape" work.
I think thats why Im liking it so much. It doesnt suit much of my other work but for this project, it was just superb. I'm hooked, for sure.
Great Video Good Job Dude
Thank you very much!
Gorgeous camera! Not long picked up a bronica etrs. 645 is a good medium
I love it! I have an affinity for Bronica but this little camera is so light and cute lol
I really enjoy your videos
Thank you, Dennis!
I've been meaning to shoot that street in providence for a while. Lot of cool things in that area
That little street is always filled with interesting stuff
Another entertaining and informative video, Robbie! I’m thinking of getting the Mamiya 645. On a side note, be really careful around some of those homeless people. Some are dangerous criminals and others are mentally ill and potentially violent. Not all are bad but just be careful.
Thanks Henry! Its been an adventure to photograph some places like this but its always worth in the end
Cool Video.. Great editing.. I just quickly scrolled thru the comments but.. did no one mention the "420 High St." Sign?.. lol.. Anyways.. Nice work on all your videos.. 👍
haha I think you are the first! Good eye lol
Certainly one of your top videos to date. Strong images, somewhat scary locations (is all MA depressed and run down?), and good soundtrack. I'm still on the fence with 645, but it has to be easier to work with than the RB67.
haha its certainly a lot lighter to carry! Most of Massachusetts is nice - I just like these areas best :) Thanks for watching, Frank!
these images 🔥 I mean you really should look into applying for some sort of cultural grant for caputring these lost artifact and telling their story with photo and video! maybe it could turn out as a book or exhibition at some point!
btw ektar is amazing, glad to see you come around! ;)
Took me a while, but I finally started to like it. I have some projects in mind ;)
Love the images. Do you feel the 55mm is a nice compliment to the 80mm (and a 150mm) or if you could do it over would the 45mm maybe be a better choice (although more $$ currently). I like wide but not too wide and fear the 45mm may be too much.
Eh, Im very happy with the 55. It almost always stays on that camera body
Would’ve liked to have seen that Little Theater sign at night lit up
You and me both! Unfortunately, it hasn't lit up in years :(
Rewatched this fine gem. Really dig that strap as I’ve been trying to find one. Can you tell me what strap that is?
Honestly, Im not sure with that specific strap. It came with the camera when I bought it
do u use mama 645 1000s
How did you meter for this sith the 645? I didnt see any lightmeter
You would need the AE prism finder to meter. Without it, you can just use an app on your phone. Thats all I do.
Fuji FT4 in your credits? Or XT4?
haha thats a typo. I dont think an FT4 exists
Where did you buy that strap?:)
I have no idea - Jamal sent it with the camera :)
@@RobbieMaynardCreates there is no company name on it?:)
Why does nobody care about all the mess everywhere on the streets?
Im sure people care.. its just hard to keep up with it. Most of the places in the video have some of the highest homeless populations in the state which leads to the amount of discarded clothing, trash and needles.
420 High St!!!
Were you the guy who heckled me? LOL
@@RobbieMaynardCreates It's my favorite address!
