  • This Mamiya M646 is aged like a fine wine. After 50 years it too has started to smell funny. Old musty smells aside, this is one of the best values in Meidum format film photography. I have been using the mamiya m645 for a while now and it has quickly became my favorite film camera period. I thought it was finally time I did a mamiya 645 review after chewing through a few rolls of 120 film. In my opinion this Medium format camera is one of the best deals in analog photography right now. I also compare it to its slightly younger sibling, the mamiya m645 1000s and offer some advice when selecting yours. The prices of medium format cameras are starting to increase, and this camera still represents a good value. Hope you enjoyed my mamiya m645 review.

Wind the shutter before taking a picture not after.
Then you won't accidentally fire it.
I always have done this in 60 years of film photography.
I also think leaving a shutter cocked weakens the mechanism.
The front shutter button has a lock by the way.
    Iconic camera.

nice review. I inherited my dad's m645. haven't shot is much cause I'm already used to my Pentax 645n. FYI, thought, the Mamiya does have a shutter lock to keep you from wasting frames. You just rotate the collar around the shutter button on the front and it locks both. have fun.

Look for a strap that has the B lug style. I did an Amazon search for camera strap for Mamiya M645 and several came up. There are two style of lugs that are used. The B style is for the Mamiya and the A style is for the Hasselblad. They aren’t interchangeable. The lug on the strap attaches to the lugs you showed on the camera body

I just bought one of these without a finder and lens for $148. Looking forward to using it though. Great video

You can lock the shutter with the little rotation thing right in front of the threaded shutter release. If the white dots are matching it will fire, if the dots are mismatched it locks both shutter releases.

Thanks for the tip! You will have no doubt saved me a few misfires down the road :)

Digging your videos! My neighbor gave me a 1000s that belonged to his deceased Uncle. It's been sitting on my shelf for years, and I've recently gotten inspired to shoot with it. Hopefully going to take it to Vietnam and Thailand in December.

As a young airline photographer I used this camera a lot, usually shot 10 rolls of slides every day. A real workhorse.

Wow! That’s an insane amount of shooting. Happy to know these are up to the task

Lost a line in the edit. It was supposed to say, “this camera is small and light - for a moon.” Thanks for watching guys.

Btw waist level finder and sport finder are two different things...sport finder is more like a metal frame/window
that you look through for a very approximated framing for moving subjects hence the sport finder name.

I just picked up my Mamiya m645 with waist-level finder, 3 Mamiya Sekor C lenses (45mm f/2.8, 80mm f/2.8, & 150mm f/4), two 120 film cassettes, one 240 film cassette, two cassette cases, left hand grip/trigger, two Mamiya hoods, filters, two ground glass focusing screens (a grid pattern screen & a matte/Fresnel screen), & a few other bits.
    ...all this for $450CAD! 😮😮😮
    ...but I need to:
    - replace all the light seals in the camera body (they are dried out & falling apart)
    - take apart & clean the haze/fungus in all three lenses
Still a great deal, especially since I can do all the repairs. The only thing I'd really like to add is a prism finder (non-metered) & maybe a split-focus screen.

Best of luck with the repairs! Sounds like you got a heck of a deal! I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I get out of mine.

Recently got a deal on a Mamyia m645 1000s. Had the full featured prism finder but the mirror in it was cracked and someone decided it would be a good idea to put gklue on it. So I just use the waist level. Will be getting out to shoot as soon as it quits raining!!

It’s a great camera Rick! Watch out for those dual shutter buttons. I have lost more than a few shots from accidentally hitting them!

Just got mine today with the waist level vf. So no iso dial. What’s up with that ?

    • @Overexposed1
      @Overexposed1  2 года назад

Yeah, that was my question when I got it too, since the camera doesn’t auto meter, there wouldn’t be an iso dial. Best of luck!
