We live in a colonial home in Georgia, and we have plantation shutters. It's a clean look. We dont have curtains in the main part of the house only for looks in our bedroom. I love them! It really just depends on what look you're going for. They last forever, and you only have to dust them.
I do love the look of them!
My friend has them and no curtains says they are a pain to dust because she has so many. But they look pretty.
OMG!!! Michelle….I am so glad you guys are ok from last week’s storm. I was on my way home from work in downtown and my husband was working nights (also in downtown)….he called me like every 2 minutes until I was home and sitting in the hallway with the dogs and my MIL. That was the scariest thing EVER!!! It wasn’t too bad in league city BUT I now know why he was freaking out calling me the whole time. He said his building was shaking for like 20 mins (he’s across the street from HPD headquarters so he said it looked like some kind of giant tornado just engulfed downtown).

Michelle, so glad that the pack up part is done for you. Hopefully, you will be able to take time in the unpacking to accomplish what you wanted in the packing process. So sorry about the damage to your mom’s home. Thankfully everyone is fine. Rest a bit before your move in.

I live in Canada and every window in our house except the kitchen are the plantation shutters and they are amazing. It takes seconds to clean them which I love. I swiffer them in between cleaning days and on my cleaning days I use a wet and dry cloths to clean them. I do not miss curtains because they hold so much dust. In my kitchen I have the roll up blinds you are talking about because the plantation shutters won’t work as well and they are great also. Either of those choices for your new house would be so easy to maintain especially being a mom with 3 young children. Can’t wait to see the new house.

I am so sorry for Piper’s passing…we have had many passings here and it is tough, sending prayers! 🙏🏻 I am here in the Houston area, so I am FULLY AWARE of those Thursday storms…downtown damage was crazy hah? For anyone else packing picture frames put two of them back to back and then cover in bubble wrap and tape it saves on the wrap and tape

I personally really liked having plantation shutters. They were easy to keep up and blocked all the light when I needed it. I thought they were worth the cost. And every time I’ve moved I feel the same way.

So sorry your mom had that happen! My daughter lives in the Florida panhandle and her street got hit with a tornado! Thankfully they are all ok! Weather has been just awful!

Michelle, I was wondering about you and your family when it was news up here in Canada even about the weather in and around Houston. I sure hope your Mom and Step Dad get the power back soon. So much damage. About the shutters verses shades. I watch a few utubers that have recently moved Jamie from Jamie's Journey, Ashley Forbes, Becky Moss. Jamie got the shades you were talking about. Perhaps try and contact her to see what she thinks about them. Amy Darling has the shutters as well. So many utubers I watch are in the moving process or have just moved. I am enjoying watching the moving process probably more then you did doing it but big hugs to you ❤❤
Oh Michelle, I am so sorry your parents home was hit by a tornado and I hope they have power by now. I do hope you got some help packing because that was way too much for one person. You will be able to declutter when you get in the new house. You are like most of us nowadays and that is that we have way too much stuff. Please take care of yourself and don’t put so much pressure on yourself. I have some blinds like you do in the back of our house and plantation shutters in the front. I really like our plantation shutters. 😊❤😊🙏

Hi Michele, I have the shutters on my windows. I love them btw. We have a 12 ft slider that we have a motorized blind on.
If I had to choose I would do the shutters. Just a personal preference.

Yeah sorry about your mom's house. About 8 yrs ago my neighborhood looked like that and I live in NY they called it a micro burst. There is a stand of 60' pines in the back it took 2 of the neighbors trees out and left mine alone they were less than 20' apart from mine. Yeah freak storms are crazy my road was blocked/closed off, all I could think of was getting to my fur babies. There were fine. Hopefully you're in the new house shortly. You are my inspiration and motivation. Take care. This too shall pass.

I’m glad your mom and step dad are okay. That looked nasty. And it does take time to get stuff like that cleaned up. I live in Georgia. And on Saturday we were supposed to go to a baby shower for my granddaughter. And we got a text halfway there saying our power is out. It went out a few times then came back on. So we decided to go. I took them what I made, just some chip dip, my family loves it. And her gift. Then we came home to our dogs. We just closed up the blinds at the back windows where the sun was coming in. It stayed nice in here. We don’t have a generator. It was off for like three hours. But it was nice and sunny when it happened. So I don’t get it. I have blinds on every window. And the ugly vertical blinds on our patio door. But they are holding up well. So we’re not changing them.i only have one window that has curtains on it. It’s my kitchen window, I have plants on the window sill. So I only pull the blind down partway and close the curtains. I know what you are doing is not fun. We had a lot of our old house in storage for over a year. Until we got into our house. Then we had another mess. Boxes stacked to the ceiling to find a place for whatever was in the box. But we got it done.

We have plantation shutters in all our bedrooms. I absolutely hate them. They're always more dusty than our blinds, and they're always in the way. For instance, my daughter's bed works well in one specific spot, but her bed is 42" tall and the shutters begin at 40". So, we cannot open that set of shutters. No, I don't want to waste money on another bed. The shutters were in the house before we bought it.......

Oh my goodness Michelle. So sorry to see these pictures and hear this. I’m in Suburban Houston as well and that storm was definitely scary. We had a tornado touchdown in our neighborhood as well. Fortunately my hose is ok. But there were a lot of uprooted trees in our neighborhood. Some people had roof damage as well.

I don’t like black countertops. Maybe for the island but not the other part. I love plantation shutters.
You need to get what you like and stay away from the trends. All trends come and go. Unless you have the money to change all the time I would stick with basic things.

Gosh you’re packing like you’re moving to another state not a few miles away. Have I missed something I confused
We are packing to move our stuff into storage for over a month. Then moving several more times before our house is ready. Even if you move a few miles down the road you have to empty out your current house.
