  • We thought we would start off this new season with a deep-dive into building tape-loops....the Battery Operated way!
    Hope you like watching two idiots try to convey information.
    We had some good fun making this one and we are glad to be back working together in the workshop!
    Hopefully you find it useful...

    Battery Operated is an experimental sound and art project with circuit-bending as the main focus. Inside a backyard workshop in a small town in England; we tinker away at any junk we can get our hands on, hoping to find an unintended use.
    If you decide to follow us on any of our platforms expect to see:
    Workshop Hangouts, Ambient Jam & other Jams, Tear-Downs, Tutorials, Repairs, Bootsale Hunting, Everything Circuit Bending, Sound-art, Vignettes and I'll stop now because we have too many ideas....

    Adding an extra roller inside the reel is pure genius imo. I've never thought of it.
    I'm pretty new to tape loops and i wanted to thank you guys for the ultimate in depths tape loop video.

    if you cut both ends at a angle through together overlapped you can match the ends together and not have that extra tape tab to worry about.

    you guys should look into super glue activator, wood workers use it all the time for gluing router templates to their work. Its basically an aerosol spray and what you'd do it apply your glue to where you want your roller to go and then give the roller a quick spray with the activator and then once you press the roller to the glue its instantly adhered. Or do it the way you did in the video but once you have the placement correct spray it with the activator and it'll instantly dry/adhere.

    Comprehensive af! Im wondering, could you do destruction loops with magnets somehow or do magnets just suck the sounds right off the tape straight away?

  • @walrtbstudios5430
    @walrtbstudios5430 7 месяцев назад

    Somewhere early on in that first build I found myself thinking ‘surely these guys know to the millimetre how long the tape should be for this- and every other- loop arrangement’. Because that’s the first thing I’d do- will do- when making my own. An added bonus would then be knowing pretty much exactly how long each loop would be- one second for each 46.7mm.
    Or am I overthinking this? The whole point is lo-fi after all…

    • @BatteryOperated
      @BatteryOperated  7 месяцев назад

      We can basically eye every loop at this point 😅 had lots of practice now!
      If knowing the exact measurements will help you then you should do it! there is no written rules and you've got to do whatever will make it fun/easy for you👌
      We have a bit of electrical tape stuck to our workshop desk that is the exact measurement of most of our loops and we compare against that when cutting loops, if we don't trust our eyeing in that moment 👀

      Off the top of my head some loosely related channels to check out are Soundgas, OK housecat and you probably already know but since you didn't say it Simon the magpie! I may think of more so I'll post them here when I do 😄
