what are those echo pcb module you used here any chance I could get it's name???
@@Lalaland.001 for sure, it's a PT2399 delay circuit 👍
@@BatteryOperated thank you very much...
LOL you guys are like English Beavis and Buttheads
The critical analysis of "Money for Nothing" is comedy gold. Genuinely been laughing for hours at the dog jizz conversation.
Haha yes! Glad you liked it! It was very nearly cut from the video but it was too funny I just couldn't do it haha
dooope. great video, love your personalities too.
Legend! Thanks for watching and thank you also for the kind words :)
I’m definitely going to need to buy one of these when you make more!
ordered! those feedback/ pause tricks are awesome! and as usual my cheeks hurt from laughing through the entire video
Russell mate, you're a certified legend as you already know but I gotta say again thank you so much for all the support my dude, you're a true lad 👌
This is great!
Cool guys!
Meet Terry and Barry XD
this is 🔥
Just bought one :)
I'm hoping mine doesnt have dog jizz on it :D
What a great job! This is one of the coolest tape hacks I've ever seen. I just don't understand why you put a speaker in the input. Could you explain it please?
I didn't hear the explanation, but any headphone or small speaker flipped to become an output to input device can become a microphone. I convert broken headphones into them routinely.
Great stuff, I'm still watching but already it's a much better device. A lot neater. There's loads of room in those machines for crazynateing. You've gone for the three pot mod on the pt chip as well. Nice.
Thanks for watching Stuart mate, we are well happy with how it came out, it is a good looking unit if I may say so myself aha!
Also do you still hold that alternative music night? Think it was open mic if I remember correctly?
Love you guys 😂😂
I see vids on here talking throu recording tape loops and they always mention disabling the erase head with a bit of tape...is the erase head already disabled on this? am quite new to this but this machine is persuading me!
Great explanations, content but please please please more professional camerawork! 😵💫
😂😂😂🐶😂😂😂
Nice !!!
Legend, thank you!
"It's tight in there"
My immediate thought was...
"That's what's she said" 👀🤣
Can you record the loop on this machine? And can you hear what you are recording while recording?
You can record the loop on the machine, however, you can't hear what you're recording unless you use a splitter cable... due to the XL having no monitor signal 👍
This is great! Would you consider making a CV version too?
Thanks for watching Michael, we don't know too much about CV but definitely had a few folks ask so its something we are going to look into!
@@BatteryOperated fast forward a year and you've both got 4000u of Eurorack :)
@@BatteryOperatedcome on guys the cv control over tape speed .. well we all want it
@@saren6538 linearisation circuit would be pure hell.
I looked at your Etsy shop and didn’t see any XL’s. Have they already sold out?
Unfortunately they did sell out yeah... didn't expect them to go so quick but we will be making more very soon since lots of people missed out...
best way to stay informed about stock is to drop us a follow on Instagram since we can post more often there or you could like the item or store on Etsy and they should send you a notification when we update the store, hope that helps!
Thanks for your interest and for checking out the video 👌
@@BatteryOperated thanks for the info. :)
I love your channel but would appreciate if you could use a tripod for your camera. All the quick back and forth camera work is difficult for me to watch.
You'll be happy to know we finally bought a new camera which claims to have much better image stability!
Thanks for sticking with us while we worked up the funds!
Do you make a guitar pedal version??
Hey. Thanks for the modded tape player. Already enjoying it. Wondered if you had any tips for recording a perfect loop without a gap. Your demos have seamless loops. What's the trick? Cheers.
Yes my friend, firstly, thanks for your support 🙏
If you look at where the tape is read on the XL (or whatever player you have) you'll see a small bright blue thingy to the left of the tape head, that's the magnet that wipes the tape when recording (so you can record over it).
If you cover that with a bit of tin foil or electrical tape or antistatic plastic; it will stop the blanking of the tape and will allow you to record layers and also make seamless loops!
It is also very easy to remove, no wiring, you can just yank it out with a pair of pliers... HOWEVER... be warned, once it is removed there will be no way to blank your tape for recording... unless you have another player handy that you could use specifically for blanking the tape.
So all in all covering it is the best option, removing it is possible, but not recommend...
If you need anything further such as videos or pictures about how to do what I'm describing drop us a message on Instagram @battery_operated_ 👌
@@BatteryOperated Nice! That is exactly the kinda thing I was hoping for. Awesome sauce. Thanks for the detailed info. And keep up the good work! :)
@@tomhill6004 anytime 👌
Wow I never thought of that. Recording a loop by disabling the erase head... meaning you can let your note decay after you've passed the starting line again, overdubbing. Very clever @@BatteryOperated
Dog jizz cleaners! Priceless 🔥🔥
I noticed on the original build you used an external 9v battery for the pt2399. Did you end up running the cassette player's power into the delay board's +/- on this one? Awesome build, as always.
Hey Alex cheers for watching mate! Yes we jumped 6v from the tape players board. The pt2399 is okay with 5v-9v.
I often see this pcb used in reverb pedals but most people only connect one 50k pot and remove one resistor to be able to adjust the signal. But you have 4 pots? What are you connecting the other two to? Are you using 50k pots?
We use a 10k for the tape players speed mod, that's not attached to the pt2399 pcb though...
Then it's a 100k for the effect time, 1m for an extra feedback mod on the pt2399 pcb, then 50k for the dry/wet mix...if I remember correctly! Aha
More work/information on the pt2399 in our "cheap tape delay" video
@@BatteryOperated Ah yeah, I found it, thanks :) Are you using the pot that comes installed with the pt2399 board or are you buying extra ones? This is something I would want to get right before ordering ;P
@@noncesens3179nice one 👌 yeah we buy new pots and remove and discard the pot on the pt2399 board
GEEEES ... your videos a PURE FAFFF!!
Request a refund 😉
ever considered selling the schematics incase we want to build at home?
We'd love for everyone to try this build! You can buy the chips and the tape player from ebay/amazon/aliex and if you follow this and the previous video we mention; then you should be well on your way to building this thing!
Hit us up on Instagram if you get stuck along the way, we are happy to help!
The value of the pots are random or they have to be specific?
If you're modding this specific unit then the values we have chosen are optimised to give you the most range, however it's a variable that changes when working on different tape players so it's kind of something you have to fiddle around with... for example slowing down this unit requires an A10k value pot but if you soldered to what is essentially the same area but on a different unit; the value required to get the most range might be different.
@@BatteryOperated thanks, i want to do the same thing as you did, unfortunately i could not find the same unit available but with your videos and this comment i feel comfortable enough to try it myself.
